JavaScript - Script Refuses To Run In Chrome/ff4
Script runs fine in latest stable release of Firefox 3 but breaks in chrome

I'm trying to code a website that will read data from an Excel file (stored either locally or elsewhere) and input a row of data (searched based on a Drop-Down List) into a table on the web page itself. Every time I open the page (it's currently stored on my local drive, on a laptop running Windows 7) in IE8, though, I get the error "Automation Server Can't Create Object" and nothing happens. The Excel file doesn't get opened and the table is blank. Thing is, though, I tried opening the same web page on another computer with IE6 and Windows 2000, and the Script works perfectly there. I've been searching for a solution to this for a week, and some people suggested elsewhere that it's a problem with IE8's security settings. I lowered them as far as they'll go and enabled Running the Script Not Marked As Safe for all possible zones, same result, the Script refuses to run with the "Automation Server Can't Create Object" error. Here's the applicable lines of code: function loadData() { // try { var Excel, Book; var a = document.getElementById("projectDrop"); Excel2 = new ActiveXObject("Excel.Application"); <--- This is where the error seems to register Book2 = Excel2.Workbooks.Open("TestSheet.xls"); idTmr = window.setInterval("Cleanup();",1000); var sheet2 = Book2.Worksheets("Sheet1"); var b = document.getElementById('tableDisplay').getElementsByTagName('tr'); Excel2.Visible = false; var i=1; while(sheet2.Cells(i,1).Value != null) { if (sheet2.Cells(i,1).Value == a.options[a.selectedIndex].text) { b[0].cells[0].innerHTML = sheet2.Cells(i,1).Value; b[0].cells[1].innerHTML = sheet2.Cells(i,2).Value; b[0].cells[2].innerHTML = sheet2.Cells(i,3).Value; b[0].cells[3].innerHTML = sheet2.Cells(i,4).Value; } i++; } Excel2.Quit(); // } // catch(e) { // } } I'm completely stumped, everyone. Is it some obscure setting I'm forgetting to check in IE8, is my Java not fully updated, or what is it? Again, it works perfectly on my old Windows 2000 w/ IE6 computer, but not on a recent Windows 7 laptop with IE8. I'd appreciate any help. Thank you. Hello all, I'm back with more silly newbie questions. I'm building a website that includes 3 javascript codes: 1. Onmouseover image switch for the nav bar. 2. On a specific page, onmouseover display of hidden divs. 3. Particletree's Dynamic Resolution Dependent Layout script (http://particletree.com/features/dyn...ndent-layouts/) All three scripts work fine in firefox, but the 2nd script doesn't work in safari and chrome, and the 3rd one doesn't work in safari, chrome and IE(8). Since the 1st one works fine in all browsers, I'm guessing this isn't a problem with my javascript link or anything like that. The website is: www.sheket.co.il/index4.html The specific page that runs the 2nd code is: www.sheket.co.il/services.html My javascript is: http://www.sheket.co.il/javascript.js And my default stylesheet is: http://www.sheket.co.il/style.css (I apologize for possible jibrish- the website is in Hebrew...) Any help with these two problems would be greatly appreciated! Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a script I'm trying to create/customize. The idea is to scroll an image by dragging of the mouse (like you have with Google maps for example), instead of the scrollbars. Right now I'm using a script that does the job perfectly fine under IE, but not so much under FireFox, and definitely not under Chrome. Some additional code is probably needed but I have no clue how to write proper JavaScript. Everything I try gives errors and leaves me baffled. Here's a hands-on example of what I mean (works only under IE!): http://home.wanadoo.nl/r.a.dekk/kaart/kaart.html This is the script I'm using now: Quote: <!-- <script type="text/javascript"> document.onmousedown = function(){ var e=arguments[0]||event; var x=document.body.scrollLeft+e.clientX; var y=document.body.scrollTop+e.clientY; document.onmousemove=function(){ scroll(x-e.clientX, y-e.clientY); return false; } document.onmouseup=function(){ document.onmousemove=null; } return false; } </script> //--> Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. Hello, i'm trying to insert a dynamic js file which contains multiple functions in it (for the example : function x, function y) and it seems that my google chrome doesn't really like it so much is there anyway you know i can bypass it and make it work and both web browsers code examples: // this is where the js file supposed to go <script id="ScriptFile"> </script> //1.js contains function x and function y document.getElementById('ScriptFile').src = "/Mysite/js/1.js" later on i need to preform some actions with function x & y. Couple more issues i need to explain first there are number of js files (1,2,3 .... n ) which all contain the same functions but with different data so i cant register them hard-coded if i type the function x into the "ScriptFile" block, it does work.. its not the function problem. same goes if i include it as source in the "ScriptFile" block (<script id="ScriptFile" src="/Mysite/js/1.js") this only gives me an error while using chrome, works perfectly fine under explorer the error says it cant find function x. thanks alot! I am trying to work out how to use Google Chrome DevTools to simulate a timeout on a JavaScript file on my site. I can use the 'Toggle Device Mode' to introduce throttling but that doesn't target a specific script. Is there a way to do this with DevTools? I am using Chrome 38. Since the upgrade from chrome 9 to chrome 10 my script is showing an error in my variables when i use boolean expressions. they changed to version V8, Chrome's JavaScript engine. Here is the function function get_form_value(n){ e=document.getElementById(n); if ((e.value)&&(e.value != "")&&(!e.options)) return e.value; if ((e.selectedIndex)&&(e.selectedIndex>0) &&(e.options[e.selectedIndex].value !="")) return e.options[e.selectedIndex].value; // select if ((e.text)&&(e.text.value !="")) continue; if ((e.selectedIndex)&&(e.selectedIndex>0) &&(e.options[e.selectedIndex].text !="")) return e.options[e.selectedIndex].text; // select if ((e.checkbox)&&(e.checkbox.checked)) return true; return false; } When i run it it shows a syntax error: Can someone please help me fix this? Go figure huh??? Anyways I have a script a co-worker wrote and it works in FF and Chrome but IE will not work. Get's a 'activeTab' is null or not an object error, I checked for commas and fixed a semi-colon that was missing in two spots but not change in IE. Anyone willing to throw me a bone? code below: Code: <table class="tan-header rounded-box" style="padding:0px;border:0px;width:560px" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0> <tr class="headerrow"> <td here previously but no solution was found and I wonder if someone could help. JavaScript loads before even DOM is fully loaded but only in Chrome browser. I know I could use setTimeout function but it's now ideal in my case. I am working on a program based on Chromium and have a html page inside it. Page has 4 images that resize (useing javascript) depending on window size Here is load finction Code: window.onload = function(){ window.document.body.onload = initDocument; }; function initDocument() { stretchFit("divMy", "bg"); stretchFit("divG", "bgG"); stretchFit("divTech", "bgTech"); stretchFit("divKB", "bgKB"); } Any ideas how to load function after DOM is loaded? deleted
I need to disable some keys from their default behaviour in Google Chrome on Windows with javascript. The script below works for most keys but not for F10, left Windows key, right Windows key, NumLock and left Alt. (which are the keys I need to disable) Code: <script type="text/javascript"> addEventListener("keydown", function (event) { if(KeyID == 121 KeyID == 91 || KeyID == 92 || KeyID == 144|| KeyID == 18 ){ event.preventDefault(); } }, true); </script> I have also without luck tried event.stopPropagation () - event.cancelBubble = true - return false og void(). I would like to know if their is a solution or it simply isn't possible to disable the mentioned keys. First off I apologize If this is in the wrong section of this forum. So I got this concept that I think Is pretty cool. I dont know If there's anything like It out there, If there is, let me know. This is the concept: You click the icon and down pops a map in which there's a circle (like this: imgur: the simple image sharer) You can resize the circle and move it around. Underneath the map there's a box where you can type your search. Let's say you search for "puppies" in Brooklyn, New York The idea is that It'll scan all the coordinates inside the circle and search for photos in google images containing those coordinates in the GPS info (EXIF).This can be useful If you for example wants to search for photos taken in your city, or even in your neighborhood. I can see many uses for this. The thing is, I don't know any programming languages so I can't do this myself. I don't even know where to start. I'm looking for a kind soul to help me with this, I don't have any money so I'm not looking to pay anyone to do this for me. I just want some help getting started, or if someone would be kind enough to do It for free. (Though that Is very unlikely.) Thanks in advance! Sorry for my bad english, it is not my native language. Hello again; I am testing in Firefox( two versions ), Chrome, Opera (two versions), Safari on Mac OSX and am seeing a peculiarity. Code: <div id="dialog" style="position:absolute;top:50px;left:600px;"> <div id="head"><p id="panelTitle">Item Info:</p></div> <p>Drag this panel to move </p> <pre id="target1"><img id="srcImg" src="windows/img/front_window.jpg" alt="test" /></pre> <pre id="target2"> </pre> <div id="closer"><p class="dialog"><a id="dClose" href="javascript:">Close</a></p></div> event listener assigned to a separate anchor tag makes this markup visible and drag-able. The mousemove event listener for dragging is assigned to the parent div, id='dialog' In Firefox and Google's Chrome browser, if I mousedown on the image and try to drag, the system tries to move and copy the image. When I release the mouse, the whole panel sticks to the pointer and moves with the pointer until I click on it. The Question: What event would I do preventDefault, cancelbubble, or return false to get around this? (perhaps for a separate post, how would I prevent the client form copying content?) Safari will do the same accept that it will not stick to the mouse pointer position on mouseup. In Opera, it works fine (accept the earlier verison, v9x leaves a trail of ghost lines where the panel was moved from) I have a pc with I.E. and have not yet tested this specific issue. Thank you for your time and attention JK I'm just starting JavaScript and wrote a quick script for Next/Back buttons for a page showing a family outing on our boat. I proudly uploaded the webpage and emailed it out, but people running IE are unable to use the buttons, they simply do nothing. Here is the .js file, I don't think anything in the HTML or CSS is causing the issue but could post those as well if necessary. Code: var step = 1; //preload images var numImages = 13; var images = new Array( numImages ); var i = 0; for ( i = 0; i < numImages; i++ ) { images[i] = new Image(); images[i].src = "images/boat" + ( i + 1 ) + ".jpg"; } function back() { if( step > 1 ) { step--; } else { step = numImages; } document.images.slide.src = images[step-1].src; } function next() { if( step < numImages ) { step++; } else { step = 1; } document.images.slide.src = images[step-1].src; } function init() { document.getElementById("back").onclick = back; document.getElementById("next").onclick = next; } window.onload = init; I've checked a lot of sites and can't figure this one out. Also, if I'm practicing any bad coding techniques, I'm open to suggestions on that as well I built a registration and edit profile form using java to show or hide drop down selectors dependent on parent selection. I'm also using an ajax script to pull the selector values from txt files for the city selector. This works fine in chrome, but will not work in ie or ff. I've also found that the ajax script simply doesn't work in ff at all period even with the formmanager scrip removed. The site is erecoverydev.com. Click on the join now tab to see the registration form, or you can log in with un test and pw test123, then click on edit my page in the left hand menu to view the edit profile form. Here is what's in the head to call these scripts: Code: <script src="/js/FormManager.js"> /**************************************************** * Form Dependency Manager- By Twey- http://www.twey.co.uk * Visit Dynamic Drive for this script and mo http://www.dynamicdrive.com ****************************************************/ </script> <script type="text/javascript"> window.onload = function() { setupDependencies('cbcheckedadminForm', 'weboptions'); //name of form(s). Seperate each with a comma (ie: 'weboptions', 'myotherform' ) }; </script> <script src="/js/request.js"> /**************************************************** * Ajax call to fill city values ****************************************************/ </script> <script> function handleOnChange(dd1) { var idx = dd1.selectedIndex; var val = dd1[idx].text; var par = document.forms["adminForm"]; var parelmts = par.elements; var cb_citysel = parelmts["cb_city"]; var state = val; if (cb_state != "Select state") { var directory = ""+document.location; directory = directory.substr(0, directory.lastIndexOf('/')); Http.get({ url: "./regvalues/" + state + ".txt", callback: fillcb_city, cache: Http.Cache.Get }, [cb_citysel]); } } function fillcb_city(xmlreply, cb_cityelmt) { if (xmlreply.status == Http.Status.OK) { var cb_cityresponse = xmlreply.responseText; var cb_cityar = cb_cityresponse.split("|"); cb_cityelmt.length = 1; cb_cityelmt.length = cb_cityar.length; for (o=1; o < cb_cityar.length; o++) { cb_cityelmt[o].text = cb_cityar[o]; } } else { alert("Cannot handle the Ajax call."); } } </script> Any ideas? I'll post the rest of the script codes in a reply. ok guys having problem with my redirect script on google chrome.works fine on FF and IE 1st bit my javascript redirect PHP Code: <SCRIPT type=text/javascript src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></SCRIPT> <script type="text/javascript"> var timeFrame; $(function() { timeFrame=setInterval("lpcAutoLike();", 1000);}); function lpcAutoLike(){ if ( $(document.activeElement).attr('id')=="lpcframe" ){ clearInterval(timeFrame);myBoolean=1; document.location="reveal.php"; // this is basically for redirection } } </script> 2nd bit the table i want to redirect PHP Code: <iframe border=0" src="share.html" id="lpcframe" name="lpcframe"><a id="lpcframe" name="lpcframe" name="fb_share" type="button" href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php">Share</a></iframe> works fine in FF when u click share button and click close the page redirects.but on chrome it fails too Hi How I can simulate keypress in google chrome. I want to press a button to fire keypress event to print "X" in input box. This is a JavaScript sample that works with Internet Explorer and Safari, but not with FireFox and Chrome. If you take the code and save it as test.html open the file with explorer or Safari you will see it works. This is the first time of posted on this forum, sorry if I missed any information.
