JavaScript - Limit And Edit Character Input
I want to limit a textarea to 500 characters. So somebody can't type in more than 500 characters or paste anything with more then 500 characters in the text box.
However, if somebody were to enter something into the fields favoritedrink OR to favortefood, then I want the limit to change to 100 characters for the textarea. How can I do that using Javascript? I am using the form code below as an example. Code: <form action=""> <input type="text" name="firstname"><br /> <input type="text" name="lastname"> <textarea rows="2" cols="20" name="description"></textarea> <input type="text" name="favoritefood"> <input type="text" name="favoritedrink"> </form> I need some help for my site and would so much appreciate if somebody can help me with my problem. Thanks so much for any help. Similar TutorialsHi all. I have the form below... Code: <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <form action="thankyou.php" method="get"> <td width="16%"><b>Your Name</b></td> <td width="84%"<input type="name" size="50" name="name" id="name"</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="16%"><b>Your E-mail</b></td> <td width="84%"<input type="text" size="50" name="email" id="email"</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="16%"><b>Text Area</b><br>Limit 50,000 characters<br>X amount characters left</td> <td width="84%"><textarea name="summary" id="summary" cols="50" rows="10"></textarea></td> </tr> <tr> <td><b>Video URL</b></td> <td><input type="text" size="50" name="video" id="video"></td> </tr> <tr> <td><b>Upload Image</b></td> <td><input type="file" size="50" name="image" id="image"></td> </tr> <tr> <td><br><input type="submit"></form> </td> <td</td> </tr> </table> I would like to change it so... When somebody submits a Video URL, the Upload Image input box is disabled When somebody does an Upload Image, the Video URL field is disabled If somebody enters more than 1,000 characters in the Text Area, then both Video URL and Upload Image fields are disabled. When somebody enters a Video URL or does an Upload image, the Text Area is limited to 1,000 characters For the words "Limit 50,000 characters" to change to "Limit 1,000 characters" if somebody enters a Video URL or Upload Image Where it says X amount characters left, it should changing depending on the amount of characters a user has typed in. Can anybody please help me achieve this above using JavaScript? It would be infinitely appreciated. Thank you. Hi, I am not sure if what I am trying to do can be done, but basically I want to add/edit/delete information in a text area from inputs. I know how to add from inputs to text area but I am struggling with the edit and delete. How I can limit this? Hi Im new to javascript and need some help with a project I have, the task I have is: Create a page that can take a bloke of text and out put the following o How many times each letter occurs o How many spaces o How many words o How many times each word occurs o A list of things that are not words or special characters I think maybe use an array but im not sure, like I said im new to this so not too sure on how to do it. I know it would read into a file say a txt file and sort through it this way, possibly using some kind of loop to read through all of the text before sorting it and I know it might use variables. I know how to kind of work through the task I have, but to actually implement the mechanics of the javascript is something that I then struggle with Thanks to all that help. Specifically i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to select the specific character when hovering over a word? I have not been able to find any documentation on this however, there is a demo site i found for a plugin that allows character selection. http://labs.bitmeister.jp/moamoa/demo.html i dont need anything that large and elaborate... I have been reading up on form validation but can't find exactly what I am looking for and need help deciphering what's going on. I have a list of accepted characters: "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789.-_@" a-z, A-Z, 0-9, dot, dash, underscore, and at. I want to then check an inputed string against that set and if a character is notin the accepted set, to send an alert. Here is what I have gathered so far: a for loop that increments through the values' .length - this is what checks each individual character. Then use of indexOf() can tell me which character is unacceptable. Now is where I am stuck and coming to you. Hello, Is there any way that I can add a limit for the amount of time that a javascript loader bar stays on screen? The specific loading screen I am using is http://www.fliesen-info-spanien.net/loadbox.php. This loading box actually activates once the page is loaded apparently, but in my instance, it is loading then disappearing in the matter of a second, but I wouldnt mind leaving it up for a couple of seconds, say 3-5. Is there any line of code I can add to do this? Andy hi, i am now playing with the time. can you please tell me how to make the time move in downwards, i mean a countdown like format, e.g the time will start countdown and end in 2 days? here's my initial noob code for creating time Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var today = new Date(); h = today.getHours(); m = today.getMinutes(); s = today.getSeconds(); function showDate(){ if(document.getElementById('but').value = "locked"){ h = checktime(h); m = checktime(m); s = checktime(s); } document.getElementById('t').innerHTML = h +":"+m+":"+s; } function checktime(i){ if(i < 10){ i = "0" + i; } return i; } function ocl(){ var x = true; if(x){ document.getElementById('but').value = "locked"; showDate(); } } function mo(){ document.getElementById('but').value = "lock me ?"; x = false; } </script> <h3> <a id="t"></a> </h3> <input type="button" id="but" value="unlocked" onmouseover="mo();" onclick="ocl();" /> I have a script which allow a user to move users from one multiple selectbox to another and it works fine, but... I want to be able to restrict a user to only move x amount of users from one box to another. I want to create an alert when the user try to add a user to much... The javascript: Code: $().ready(function() { $('#add').click(function() { return !$('#box1 option:selected').remove().appendTo('#box2'); }); $('#remove').click(function() { return !$('#box2 option:selected').remove().appendTo('#box1'); }); }); The HTML: Code: <table> <tr> <td valign="top"><select multiple id="box2" style="width:250px;height:200px;"></select></td> <td width="100%" align="center"><a href="#" id="add">Add</a><br><a href="#" id="remove">Remove</a></td> <td valign="top"> <select multiple id="box2" style="width:250px;height:200px;"> <option value="1">User 1</option> <option value="2">User 2</option> <option value="3">User 3</option> <option value="4">User 4</option> </select> </td> </tr> </table> Hope this makes sense... Thanks in advance... Suppose I have the string 'ello'. I want to insert the letter 'h' in the beginning of that string. How do I do that without using a special function? I can only use the functions charAt and indexOf - anyone has any idea? Ok I have a textarea field that is validated by Js, this textarea can and will contain the newline character Code: \n so I validate in JS Code: if(textareaname.value.length < 200) this hten goes through to my php where i also check before I place in to the Database using MYSQL Code: if( strlen($_POST['textareaname']) < 200 ) but my php is giving me a different string length from my javascript. It looks as if Javascript is counting a newline as 1 character and php is treating it as 2. I have checked my slashes, I have used various REgex to check these data amounts. I have also Googled around and there doesnt seem much around. Any ideas? Any suggestions as to how I can make php and javascript treat a newline as the same amount of characters? Thanks in advance. So say if my string was.. Code: a = "Hello"; alert(a); How do I get it to say; Code: alert("ello"); So how do I take off the 'H' in this example.. |
