JavaScript - Deleting A Cookie Site-wide
Our site allows the user to specify his or her location, which is then stored in a cookie. As the user navigates from page to page on the site, this location is remembered.
The user also has the option of changing their location. This calls a javascript function which sets the value of that location cookie to "". When another function sees that the value is "" of that cookie, it brings back the location selector. Then the user can start over and choose a location. Here's the problem: Let's say I'm on page 1 of the site and I choose location A. Then I navigate to page 2. On page 2, I say I want to change my location. Now the page shows me the location selector instead of saying that I am in location A. So far, so good. However, if I now navigate back to page 1, it thinks I am still in location A. the cookie was deleted for page 2, but still remembered for page 1. It isn't a cache issue; if I reload the page, page 1 will still say that I am located in location A, even though on page 2, I elected to delete that cookie (or to set its value to ""). What is a better way to delete cookie so that if I were to navigate back to a page on which I'd previously set the cookie, it will now know that the value is the new value (""), and not the value I'd originally set the first time I visited the page? THANK YOU! Similar TutorialsHi everyone, I am using a jQuery cookie script to set the cookie of some elements on my website. One of the problems is that I need the cookie to not expire after one day, I need it to expire after a while (I'm going to start off with a year). Here's my script, the red part is what I've been editing. Code: /** * Cookie plugin * * Copyright (c) 2006 Klaus Hartl (stilbuero.de) * Dual licensed under the MIT and GPL licenses: * http://www.opensource.org/licenses/mit-license.php * http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html * */ /** * Create a cookie with the given name and value and other optional parameters. * * @example $.cookie('the_cookie', 'the_value'); * @desc Set the value of a cookie. * @example $.cookie('the_cookie', 'the_value', { expires: 7, path: '/', domain: 'jquery.com', secu true }); * @desc Create a cookie with all available options. * @example $.cookie('the_cookie', 'the_value'); * @desc Create a session cookie. * @example $.cookie('the_cookie', null); * @desc Delete a cookie by passing null as value. Keep in mind that you have to use the same path and domain * used when the cookie was set. * * @param String name The name of the cookie. * @param String value The value of the cookie. * @param Object options An object literal containing key/value pairs to provide optional cookie attributes. * @option Number|Date expires Either an integer specifying the expiration date from now on in days or a Date object. * If a negative value is specified (e.g. a date in the past), the cookie will be deleted. * If set to null or omitted, the cookie will be a session cookie and will not be retained * when the the browser exits. * @option String path The value of the path atribute of the cookie (default: path of page that created the cookie). * @option String domain The value of the domain attribute of the cookie (default: domain of page that created the cookie). * @option Boolean secure If true, the secure attribute of the cookie will be set and the cookie transmission will * require a secure protocol (like HTTPS). * @type undefined * * @name $.cookie * @cat Plugins/Cookie * @author Klaus Hartl/klaus.hartl@stilbuero.de */ /** * Get the value of a cookie with the given name. * * @example $.cookie('the_cookie'); * @desc Get the value of a cookie. * * @param String name The name of the cookie. * @return The value of the cookie. * @type String * * @name $.cookie * @cat Plugins/Cookie * @author Klaus Hartl/klaus.hartl@stilbuero.de */ jQuery.cookie = function(name, value, options) { if (typeof value != 'undefined') { // name and value given, set cookie options = options || {}; if (value === null) { value = ''; options.expires = -1; } var expires = ''; if (options.expires && (typeof options.expires == 'number' || options.expires.toUTCString)) { var date; if (typeof options.expires == 'number') { date = new Date(); date.setTime(date.getTime() + (options.expires * 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000 * 365)); } else { date = options.expires; } expires = '; expires=' + date.toUTCString(); // use expires attribute, max-age is not supported by IE } // CAUTION: Needed to parenthesize options.path and options.domain // in the following expressions, otherwise they evaluate to undefined // in the packed version for some reason... var path = options.path ? Usually I would use a background image for this, but it needs to be a slideshow. It works great on larger screens, but not on small screens. I've removed the horizontal scrollbar, but when viewing on a small screen, obviously the content isn't in the center. I know centering this isn't possible in CSS, is it possible in JavaScript? Otherwise, I guess I'll look for a module that is a background image slideshow. Thanks in advance for any suggestions (: I made a new thread for a problem that I solved a little after posting so I have removed the question in order to not waste anyone's time
i create cookies that contain multiple values using Jquery cookie plugin e.g, $.cookie('biz', ['foo', 'bar', 'lact'], {path: '/', expi 7}); from this url http://localhost/categories/educatio...r/universities and use a.remove('foo'); to remove the value after splitting, before removing value i count the number of value and if one remains to delete the cookie 'biz' entirely, even though i could remove the values, one always remains which cannot be remove from this url but only from http://localhost/categories i use .htaccess to rewrite the url, function of remove is : Array.prototype.remove=function(s){ var i = this.indexOf(s); if(i != -1) this.splice(i, 1); } please help My table starts like this: Code: <table> <tr> <td rowspan='2'></td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> </table> When an addRows button is clicked, the first two rows are copied (cloned), a checbox is then inserted into the row1 cell1, then the two rows are appended: <table> <tr> <td rowspan='2'></td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td rowspan='2'><input type='checkbox' name='check[]'></td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> </table> Rows, except the first two can then be deleted by selecting the appropriate checkbox and clicking a deleteRow button. The check[] only exists after the first two rows have been copied and appended, so undefined means only two rows exist. Having a problem with the while loop. If a browser sees the next sibling of a tr as a td, the the loop should force the browser to go to the next sibling until its a tr, i.e row4. But its causing my browser(FF) to become unresponsive. Code: function deleteRow() { if(check == 'undefined') { return; } else { var check = document.getElementsByName('check[]'),row, nextRow,x; var len = check.length; for(x=len-1; x>=0; x--) { if(check[x].checked) { row = check[x].parentNode.parentNode; while(row.nextSibling.nodeName != 'tr') { nextRow = row.nextSibling; } nextRow = row.nextSibling; alert('ok'); } } } } Appreciate ans help with this? My table had the following layout. Code: <table> <tr> <td rowspan='2'><td> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> </table> After clicking an add rows button, the two rows are cloned and appended as follows with a checkbox added as shown. Code: <table> <td rowspan='2'><td> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td rowspan='2'><input type='checkbox' name='check'><td> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> </table> I want to be able to delete rows 3&4 by selecting the checkbox in row 3 and clicking a delete rows button. Regardless of how many sets of rows have been previously added, any set of rows can be deleted by selecting the appropriate checkbox(es) and clicking delete button. I'm trying to figure out how this can be done. My thinking is if checkbox is checked, calculate row index. I would then have to call deleteRow twice on that row index. Is there a better way of doing this? How can I to delete white spaces around parameter that I to pass with HTML forms. For example, if I have 'firstname lastname ' or ' firstname lastname', exist it a builtin function in javascript to obtian 'firstname lastname'? savio I have created a calculator for my site but I am having troubles figuring out a way to make the "add row" and "delete row" functionality work correctly. I would like the user to only see 1 row of information and then add/delete rows as needed. I currently only have 4 static rows. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks The page is at https://learningportal.juniper.net/j...lator/Calc.htm I writed the following HTML code: Quote: <html> <head> <title>Pagina di Prova</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="/home/savio/Scrivania/prova.js"></script> </head> <body> <h1 align="center">PROVA DI RIMOZIONE DI RIGHE E CELLE DALLA TABELLA</h1> <br/><br/> <table id="nometabella" border="2" align="center" cellpadding="10%"> <tr id="nomeriga1"><td>Cella 1</td><td>Cella 2</td></tr> <tr id="nomeriga2"><td>Cella 3</td><td>Cella 4</td></tr> <tr id="nomeriga3"><td>Cella 5</td><td>Cella 6</td></tr> </table> <input type="submit" value="Enter" onclick="return del()"/> </body> </html> and the following javascript code: Quote: function del() { if (document.getElementById) { var tabella = document.getElementById("nometabella"); var riga1 = document.getElementById("nomeriga1"); tabella.removeChild(riga1); } } I want to delete first row of table, but it happens nothing. How can solve this problem? Say I have a <textarea> input and I want to strip all the blank lines (lines with only whitespace). I have this regular expression, why doesn't it do anything? I've tried different variations with the flags (m and g). Code: ... var output = input.replace(/^\s*$/gm, "notworking!"); ... The very same regex works fine in my text editor (Notepad2), and I can match all empty lines. Code: LINE1 LINE4 ^(line 3 has some spaces) should become Code: LINE1 LINE4 And when I finally do get this to work, how would I remove the empty line? EDIT: Post deleted
I wrote a script that should delete all table rows at once. For loop deletes all rows except row 1 and row 3. Further clicking on the delete button, deletes row 1 and then 3. While loop ,on the first click on the delete button, also leaves rows 1 and 3 not deleted. Further clicking on the delete button, does not delete these rows. I was sure that both version of the script should delete all rows in the table at once. Could someone look at the script and tell me what is wrong? Thank you very much Code: <html> <head> <title>Deleting All Table Entries</title> </head> <script type="text/javascript"> /* WHILE LOOP var i=0; function deleteAll() { document.getElementById("deleteButton").onclick=function() { var table=document.getElementById("myTable"); while(i<table.rows.length) { table.deleteRow(i); i++; } } } */ /*FOR LOOP*/ function deleteAll() { document.getElementById("deleteButton").onclick=function() { var table=document.getElementById("myTable"); for(var i=0; i<table.rows.length; i++) { table.deleteRow(i); } } } window.onload=deleteAll; </script> <body> <table id="myTable"> <tr> <td>Row 0</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Row 1</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Row 2</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Row 3</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Row 4</td> </tr> </table> <button id="deleteButton"> Delete All Rows in the Table </button> </body> </html> I'l not good in Javascript and I can't find anything about what I want.. . On a sports website there is a table with our ranking and results. On this site the content is changed weekly, but it stays in the same tables.. . Is it possible to make a javascript to get those tables and put them on my own website so the content will change on my site when the content is changed on the sports site? Please help me, it would save me lot of time.. . THx Hi everyone! Got a quick (cookie) question. I looked on the internet for some cookie scripts (redirect ones), but unfortunately haven't been too lucky with these. What I want to do is the following: When the cookie is not found it goes to my main page, for example: "www.anynamehere.com" On the main page I can select where I want to go - 'Contacts', 'News', 'Forums' and so on. The main page has a drop down list with these options, each option has it's own link. When I click on 'continue' and go to the specific link (ex. www.anynamehere.com/contacts.html) it should remember my selection, so next time I log into www.anynamehere.com it's automatically will take me to contacts.html. I will not see the main page anymore. Now, if from the contacts page I select 'News' and go to www.anynamehere.com/news.html it has to remember that link as well. So if I close my browser and then reopen it, it should take me to www.anyname.com/news.html. I hope that makes sense. If anyone can give me any pointers I would greatly appreciate it. Maybe there is a script like that available online, I just wasn't lucky enough to find one. Thank you in advance! Hi im kind of new to cookies in Javascript. But after reading a few tutorials on how the work I started to wonder. Is it possible to grab a cookie made by my phpbb forum? I would love to be able to login on my site using my phpbb forum cookies. Anway if this is a bad idea ore won't work for any reason plz let me know. Thanks Hi im new to working with cookies so would appreaciate a little help I using the w3c tuturial as a template so heres a link so you can see what im trying to do http://www.w3schools.com/JS/js_cookies.asp Code: function getCookie(c_name) { var i,x,y,ARRcookies=document.cookie.split(";"); for (i=0;i<ARRcookies.length;i++) { x=ARRcookies[i].substr(0,ARRcookies[i].indexOf("=")); y=ARRcookies[i].substr(ARRcookies[i].indexOf("=")+1); x=x.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g,""); if (x==c_name) { return unescape(y); } } } function setCookie(c_name,value,exdays) { var exdate=new Date(); exdate.setDate(exdate.getDate() + exdays); var c_value=escape(value) + ((exdays==null) ? "" : "; expires="+exdate.toUTCString()); document.cookie=c_name + "=" + c_value; } function checkCookie(username) { var username=getCookie("username"); if (username!=null && username!="") { document.getElementById("feedback").innerHTML = " last time you scored " + username); setCookie("username",username,365); } else { if (username=null || username="") { setCookie("username",username,365); } } } I kept the variable names the same so you can follow and I don't confuse myself and make things more complected while im trying to debug it. Some extra information. checkcookie is been given a variable it is just a simple number. Im making a questionnaire which is done but I wont the top of the page to tell the user how much they scored last or tell them this is their first time trying it. The variable being passed to check cookie is their score . at the moment when I click the submit button nothing happens. Where it should trigger a score calculating function which should then call the checkcookie function while passing the score it calculated. I would love if someone can point me in the right direction or help me correct it or atleast explain to me whats going wrong. Thanks and a lots of appreciation if anyone can spare the time Hello. I am a neewb, so bare with me. This code is not working correctly for some reason. If I use it in Internet Explorer it will work, but only if you bring up the history in the url tab. You cannot refresh it for whatever reason. so basically it works in Explorer but no refresh. The big problem is Mozilla. I will not work at all. I have all of the cookies set for third party, remember last visit and so on. It will only display the welcome page for first time visitor. Then it will show the subsequent page, however it will not increment the count +1. I am not sure what is going on here, Explorer works, but with no refresh, and Mozilla does not really work at all? Here is my script currently: <script type="text/javascript"> /* <![CDATA[ */ function hitMySite() { var lastDate = new Date(); lastDate.setMonth(lastDate.getMonth()); var dateString = (lastDate.getMonth() + 1) + "/" + lastDate.getDate() + "/" + lastDate.getFullYear(); if (document.cookie != "") { counter = document.cookie.split("=")[1]; counter = parseInt(counter) + 1; date = document.cookie.split(":")[2]; var expireDate = new Date(); expireDate.setMonth(expireDate.getMonth() + 12); document.cookie = "counter=" + counter + ":date:" + dateString + ";expires=" + expireDate.toGMTString(); document.write("<h1>You last visited this page on: " + date + "<br />You have been to this page " + counter + " times.</h1>"); } else { document.write("<h1>Welcome to my Web site! This is your first visit here so be sure to bookmark my page!</h1>"); var counter = 1; var expireDate = new Date(); expireDate.setMonth(expireDate.getMonth() + 12); document.cookie = "counter=" + counter + ":date:" + dateString + ";expires=" + expireDate.toGMTString(); } } /* ]]> */ </script> </head> <body onload="hitMySite()"> </body> </html> Hello I have below script i need add cookie to it . disable script untill cookie is not expired can you please help me <script language=javascript type="text/javascript"> <!-- Hide script from old browsers //new window script function jshow() {window.open("http://www.google.com","blank")} // End hiding script from old browsers --> </script> Hi i used cookies to store data using java script with 2 calculators, but there is a 3rd calculator that the cookies arent storing, can someone help me figure out where to implement the script?
I am running a vBulletin and am using a script to set a cookie each time someone clicks a banner. When the user then reloads the page it looks for that cookie and hides the banner if the cookie exists. I now want to write the date into the cookie name so that the cookie name changes every day. I want to do this because for some reason the cookie gets re-written sometimes and never expires. Because of vBulletin and Firefox I have to use PHP to check initially if the cookie is even set. Here is my current script, any help would be appreciated.
