JavaScript - Textbox Onblur Fires When Closing Window
Hi,
I have an input element (textbox) on a webpage, and capture the onblur event of the input (textbox) control to do validation. My problem is that when the page is closed or the user click on another window the onblur event of my textbox gets called too. I need the onblur event handler to be called only when the textbox loses focus b/c another element on the SAME webpage gets focus, but not when the user clicks on another window or closes the browser window. What is the right way to accomplish this? Thanks in advance, Richard Similar TutorialsHello, I am new to JavaScript and I am asking for help with this problem. I have a three textboxes in a form. Using OnBlur, I am attempting to call a function to add one to an input textbox to add 1 to the cost. As the user enters text into textbox01, the number 1 appears in the input box about cost, as the user enters text into textbox02, the input box displays 2 and the user enters text into textbox03, the input box displays 3. My JavaScript is as follows: <script type="text/javascript"> //copies contents of first textbox to second textbox function copyValue() { var textbox1 = document.getElementById("textbox1"); var textbox2 = document.getElementById("textbox2"); var textbox3 = document.getElementById("textbox3"); var txtAttendee = document.getElementById("txtAttendee"); var input_A = document.getElementById("input_A"); textbox2.value = textbox1.value; txtAttendee.value = 1; input_A.value = 1; } </script> In the form I have this: <input type="text" id="textbox3" style="background-color:yellow" onblur="copyValue();" /> I would greatly appreciate ANY help with being able to calculate costs, perhaps using the JavaScript ++/-- operators. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. hello everybody i need your help and experience for having code to show ( overlay / modal window ) to the user when closing or navigating away from the page ( i want put in this window facebook share to make the user to share the page in his facebook ) , bytheway i wanna use it in my wordpress in every post could it be happen ? Thanks for helping Hi everyone. New programmer here trying to get fix this one specific issue I am having and I could use some help. Using Javascript, ASP.net with C# code behind. I am validating a textbox using the onblur event. It is being validated in that it must have an alphanumeric entry before the user tabs off of it to the next box. The validation part works, the part that doesn't work is that I get the validation alert textbox if I close the window. I have a workaround in that I am assigning that textbox a character using windo.onberforeunload but I know that isn't right. Here is what I have so far... Code behind on Page_Load... Code: txtCLBRTNWC.Attributes.Add("onblur", "return reqVLD(this)"); here is my textbox field... Code: <asp:TextBox ID="txtCLBRTNWC" runat="server" Width="75" MaxLength="4" ontextchanged="txtCLBRTNWC_TextChanged" TabIndex="1" onkeyup="clbwclngCHK(this);" ></asp:TextBox> And here are the 2 functions being used... Code: function reqVLD(alphanumericChar) { var chk = /^[a-zA-Z0-9]+$/; // var boxid = document.getElementById("<%=txtCLBRTNWC.ClientID%>").value; // var matchArray = boxid.match(chk); if(document.getElementById("<%=txtCLBRTNWC.ClientID%>").value.match(chk)) { return true; } else { document.getElementById("<%=txtCLBRTNWC.ClientID%>").focus(); document.getElementById("<%=txtCLBRTNWC.ClientID%>").value = ""; alert("Please enter a Work Center."); return false; } } function clbwclngCHK(obj_in)//When txtCLBRTNWC entry hits the max of 4 auto focuses to next box. { if (obj_in.value.length == 4) document.getElementById("<%=txtSTRTDT.ClientID%>").focus(); } Here is my work around... Code: window.onbeforeunload = function () { document.getElementById("<%=txtCLBRTNWC.ClientID%>").value = "1"; } Summary. User has to enter something in box before they can move on. This is checked and validating using an onblur event. Problem is, the onblur event fires if closing\exiting the window. I know there has to be a better way of doing this. Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Will Hi, im thinking about something like this, is this the correct way to do this. Code: function run_timout() { timout = setTimeout(closethewindow, 3000); } function closethewindow() { alert("Your time is up!"); window.close('mywindow'); } Say you have a document with 2 frames with 2 buttons in one of the frames. If one button opens a window, how can you make the other button close it?
Hello all, I am trying to close a window when I press a link using javascript. The code is simple... Code: <a href="" onclick="window.close()">Close this window</a> This works as well, and I know that it will work only on windows opened by javascript. That's ok as well. My question is that in Firefox, I can open a link a new tab. So I open a new tab by clicking on a link like this... Code: <a href="somepage.html" target="_blank">OPEN</a> Now when I try to close this tab using javascript, after closing it refreshes the page. This I know is happening because, I did href="". What's the workaround for this problem.... Hi, I'm having troube closing the main Internet Explorer window using a script called from a right click menu. The code I'm using is: Code: <script language="JavaScript"> var oWindow = window.external.menuArguments; oWindow.close(); </script> When the script calls, windows prompts to close the window, but when 'yes' is clicked the Alert sound sounds and the window remains open! If the script is called from a button on the page it will close, but I want to close any page on the internet using a right click! All help will be gratefully received. Dave. Hi, I have these two pages which I want to link...the index.html is the main page. I want the list.html page to pop up when names is clicked..Then I want to be able to select all or some of the name from the list.html page and inset into the textbox on the index.html page, separated by commas with the list.html closing on insert. hope my ambition is clear enough... index.html PHP Code: <body> Add contacts:<br /> <input name="" type="text" /><br /> <a href="list.html" target="_new">names </a> </body> list.html PHP Code: <body> Contact list:<br /> <form id="form1" name="form1" method="post" action=""> <p> <input type="checkbox" name="checkbox" id="checkbox" /> Paul<br /> <input type="checkbox" name="checkbox" id="checkbox" /> Matthew<br /> <input type="checkbox" name="checkbox" id="checkbox" /> Philip<br /> <input type="checkbox" name="checkbox" id="checkbox" /> Grant </p> <p> <input type="submit" name="button" id="button" value="Insert" /> <br /> </p> </form> <br /> </body> A simple solution will greatly be appreciated .... thanks Hi. I am not sure if this has been answered to other posts but I tried to search and I can't find the right answer for my problem. I am trying to learn javascript for my self and can't figure out my self. Actually this is the same like the pop-up calendar but the only difference is I don't want numbers, I need a list of options so user can choose and when they select, it will transfer to the textbox right away like the calendar. I have a form and trying to use a pop-up window to select an option then transfer the option selected to show on the textbox. I have 10 textboxes and all of them has a "Select" button to pop-up the option list. BTW, the "SELECT" button will populate the same option list. Here is my html code: Code: <select id="droplist" name="droplist" size="1" > <option>Click to select...</option> <?php foreach ($designation_list as $descode => $prompt) : ?> <option <?php echo helper_selected($prompt == $form['droplist']); ?> value="<?php echo $prompt; ?>" style="width:500"><?php safeEcho($prompt); ?> </option> <?php endforeach; ?> </select> below is my array: PHP Code: <?php $designation_list = array( "00111" =>"Aloha of the Pacific/Transfer Assistance Program for High Income Students", "71122" =>"Aloha", "71231" =>"Free Housing Information", "71232" => "Drama Queen and King", "98765" => "Aloha Boy Home of the Land", "12345" => "Aloha Home", ); I wanted to use the option list over and over again for the 10 textboxes. Is that possible? Below is my sample code but didn't work. Please help.... Code: //javascript var testpopup5 = new PopupWindow("testdiv5"); testpopup5.offsetX=-20; testpopup5.offsetY=20; testpopup5.autoHide(); var testpopup5input=null; testpopup5.populate('<select>Select: <select name="sel" id="sel" onChange="testpopup5pick(this.options[this.selectedIndex].value);"><OPTION VALUE="A">A</option> <OPTION VALUE="B">B</option><OPTION VALUE="C">C</option></SELECT>'); function test5popupactivate(obj,anchor) { testpopup5input=obj; testpopup5.showPopup(anchor); } function testpopup5pick(val) { testpopup5input.value = val; testpopup5.hidePopup(); } //html <INPUT NAME="test5" SIZE=30 id="I"> <A HREF="#sel" onClick="test5popupactivate(document.getElementById['I'].test5,'anchor5');return false;" NAME="anchor5" ID="anchor5">Select</A> <DIV ID="testdiv5" STYLE="position:absolute;visibility:hidden;background-color:#CCCCCC;width:200px;height:50px;"></DIV> As you can see I get this code from somewhere else but it doesn't work on me. Is there an easy way to do it? Please help. Thanks in advance. alright so im a noob to js (so if my jargon isn't quite right I apologize). I wrote this program: [CODE] function drown() { $('#nav li a').mouseover( function() { $('#nav li ul').show(); }); $('#nav li a').mouseout( function() { $('#nav li ul a').hide(); }); }; [CODE] which is for a drop down navigation menu. Its real basic, but its my first program from scratch. the only problem is that it only fires once, meaning when i mouse over the parent li it only "drops down" the child ul and "brings it up" only one time. The subsequent times I mouse over nothing occurs. I have spent hours reading forums and books but I'm still lost. If you need the html or css documents let me know. Alright, so I'm working on a script, and I'm simply using the following code: document.getElementById("element").onclick = alert("hello"); When I load the page, the alert fires instantaneously. I'm completely stumped. I've checked everything in my not too extensive Javascript file, and it looks fine. What common errors could cause this? I have a problem where the page doesn't expand when more results get loaded via jquery on a facebook style wall. Once more results get loaded the footer stays static instead of moving down. What's the best way to do this? Hi.. I have form and i want to input data using barcode and it will display on textbox and after input on the first textbox the focus will go to next textbox untill it will go on the last textbox and on the last textbox it will automatically save the data's on the database. How is it possible? here is my sample code: Code: <?php error_reporting(0); date_default_timezone_set("Asia/Singapore"); //set the time zone $con = mysql_connect('localhost', 'root',''); if (!$con) { echo 'failed'; die(); } mysql_select_db("mes", $con); ?> <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function ini() { // Retrieve the code var code =document.getElementById ("code_read_box1").value; var code =document.getElementById ("code_read_box2").value; var code =document.getElementById ("code_read_box3").value; var code =document.getElementById ("code_read_box4").value; var code =document.getElementById ("code_read_box5").value; var code =document.getElementById ("code_read_box6").value; // Return false to prevent the form to submit return false; } </script> </head> <body onLoad="document.barcode.code_read_box1.focus()"> <form name=barcode onsubmit = "return ini()"> <input type="text" id="code_read_box1" value="" /><br/> <input type="text" id="code_read_box2" value="" /><br/> <input type="text" id="code_read_box3" value="" /><br/> <input type="text" id="code_read_box4" value="" /><br/> <input type="text" id="code_read_box5" value="" /><br/> <input type="text" id="code_read_box6" value="" /><br/> </form> </body> </html> Hello. I've been teaching myself HTML and CSS for a while, and now I've moved into the world of Javascript (but I'm still very much a beginner). For practice, I've been building a sample sign up form for a mock website, and I'm having problems with the birthdate section. The idea I had was to have MM, DD, and YYYY be the default values of my 3 textboxes (as an example for users), then set the value to nothing when the box gained focus. That all works fine, but I ran into problems when I tried to write an if statement to set the value back to MM, DD, or YYYY if the value was still nothing when the user clicked away. As it is now it just replaces the text inputted into the textbox (which of course is not good). Any ideas for what the problem might be? Code: <form name="signup" action="javascript:void(0);" method="post"> <table> <tr> <td>Date Of Birth:</td> <td> <input name="DOBmonth" type="text" value="MM" size="2" style="color: #555555;" onFocus="clearDOBmonth()" onBlur="restoreDOBmonth()" /> <input name="DOBday" type="text" value="DD" size="2" style="color: #555555;" onFocus="clearDOBday()" /> <input name="DOByear" type="text" value="YYYY" size="4" style="color: #555555;" onFocus="clearDOByear()" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td><button name="Submit" type="submit" style="font-size: 1em;">Sign Up</button></td> </tr> </table> </form> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> <!-- document.signup.DOBmonth.value="MM"; document.signup.DOBday.value="DD"; document.signup.DOByear.value="YYYY"; function clearDOBmonth() { document.signup.DOBmonth.value="";} function clearDOBday() { document.signup.DOBday.value="";} function clearDOByear() { document.signup.DOByear.value="";} function restoreDOBmonth() { if ('document.signup.DOBmonth.value = ""') { document.signup.DOBmonth.value = "MM"; // alert(document.signup.DOBmonth.value); } } //--> </script> Another side question, if I set a variable equal to the value of a textbox, then change the value of the variable, does that also change the value of the textbox? or is the variable no longer associated with the textbox. Example: Code: var a = document.form.textbox.value; a = blue; does document.form.textbox.value = blue? or is var a now completely independent of the textbox value? Thanks! There is a Js file i am including in my application that has a below function Code: function highlightInputs() { var inputs = document.getElementsByTagName('input'); var i; for (i=0; i<inputs.length; i++) { inputs[i].onfocus = function() { this.style.background = '#F6F6F6'; } inputs[i].onblur = function() { this.style.background = '#FFF'; } } } addEvent (window, "load", highlightInputs); Code: <INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="InvoiceDate_DT" id="InvoiceDate_DT" value="<?=($InvoiceDate_DT)?>" class="smtxtbox" onBlur="javascript:alert('test');"> Now in the same page, i have a textbox and i try to fire an onblur() event which is not getting fired. Onclick() works but onblur() doesnt..strange.. When i disable the .js file it gets fired. What is the problem?? Its on all the browsers Thanks Hi, I have dynamic table with the fileds that have input boxes where X is the counter. Finaly I got unique id ABC1,ABC2,ABC3......... <table><tr> <td><input id=ABC<%=X%> value="<%=RS("Name")%>"></td> <td><input id=ABC<%=X%> value="<%=RS("Name")%>"></td> <td><input id=ABC<%=X%> value="<%=RS("Name")%>"></td> <td>...</td><td>...</td><td>...</td></tr></table> How to get value of each row onblur in javascript Thanks a lot, MZ okay. clearing a form. Code: function setTableActivation(){ tableDiv = document.getElementById("tables"); tables = tableDiv.getElementsByTagName("table"); count = tables.length; for(var h=0;h<count;h++){ var table = tables[h]; table.accessKey = h; table.onfocus = function(){tables[this.accessKey].className = "activeTable";}; table.onblur = function(){tables[this.accessKey].className = "searchreal";}; for(var i=0;i<table.rows.length;i++){ row = table.rows[i]; row.accessKey = h; row.onfocus = function(){tables[this.accessKey].className = "activeTable";}; row.onblur = function(){tables[this.accessKey].className = "searchreal";}; for(var j=0;j<table.rows[i].cells.length;j++){ cell = table.rows[i].cells[j]; cell.accessKey = h; cell.onfocus = function(){tables[this.accessKey].className = "activeTable";}; cell.onblur = function(){tables[this.accessKey].className = "searchreal";}; for (var k = 0; k < cell.childNodes.length; k++) { if (cell.childNodes[k].nodeType == document.ELEMENT_NODE) { cell.childNodes[k].accessKey = h; cell.childNodes[k].onfocus = function(){tables[this.accessKey].className = "activeTable";}; cell.childNodes[k].onblur = function(){tables[this.accessKey].className = "searchreal";}; if(cell.childNodes[k].tagName == "SELECT"){ } } } } } } } I have a problem with one simple script, which works in every browser, just not in IE6 and IE7. You can see the script at http://bbtalk.eu/iframe.html - when you click on the iframe, you should see "clicked at the bottom". But it doesnt work in IE6 and IE7. Do anyone know how to fix that? Thank you
Hi, I'm a little rusty on my javascript. I'm trying to use onKeyUp and onBlur to validate html table field text entry. I'm using Firefox in Windows XP, and Javascript is turned on. Mind taking a look to see why it's not working? Thanks! -Jason Code: <html> <head> <title>javascript onKeyUp problem example</title> <script type="text/javascript"><!-- //Validates full zip code when zip code field is left. If invalid, should pop an alert message. function onBlur_Zip() { var zipCodePattern = /^\d{5}$|^\d{5}-\d{4}$/; if (zipCodePattern.test(document.getElementByID("zip").value) == -1) { alert("Please enter a valid zip code."); } return false; } //Validates partial zip code. If invalid, should make table row background color yellow. function onKeyPress_Zip() { var zipCodePattern = /^\d{0,5}$|^\d{5}-\d{0,4}$/; var val = document.getElementByID("zip").value; alert(val); if (zipCodePattern.test(document.getElementByID("zip").value) == -1) { alert("onkeypress zip false"); document.getElementByID("zipRow").style.backgroundColor="yellow"; } else { alert("onkeypress zip true"); document.getElementByID("zipRow").style.backgroundColor="white"; } return false; } // --> </script> </head> <body> <form><table border=1 cellpadding=5> <tr id="zipRow"> <td>Test field:</td> <td><input id="zip" type="text" name="zip" onKeyUp="javascript:onKeyPress_Zip()" onBlur="javascript:onBlur_Zip()" /></td> </tr></table></form> </body> </html> |
