JavaScript - Javascript To Swap Image For Flash Player; Some Browser Difficulty
Hi,
I am a JavaScript novice, and appreciate any help you can give. For design reasons, we did not like the appearance of a still video on our web page. So I write a short little script to replace a picture that we selected, with the code for a flash player, once the image was clicked. The code works exactly as designed on IE and Chrome. It works *almost* as designed on Firefox and Safari -- but on those browsers the "fullscreen" button in the plugin doesn't work. It is *not* a problem with the FlowPlayer code. If I simply put the FlowPlayer code into a web page, it works fine. I think that somehow some browsers do not want to let the FlowPlayer expend outside of the JavaScript object box I created -- though that is just an hypthesis. If you have any insight or suggestions, I would appreciate it. The page is at http://sudval.org/test.html The code: Code: <div style="line-height: 12px;letter-spacing: 0px;"> <script type="text/javascript"> function changeText(){ var strOut; strOut = " <object id=\"videoplayer\" width=\"334\" height=\"204\" type=\"application/x-shockwave-flash\" data=\"http://app.provdn.com/flash/flowplayer.swf\">"; strOut = strOut + " <param name=\"movie\" value=\"http://app.provdn.com/flash/flowplayer.swf\" />"; strOut = strOut + " <param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" />"; strOut = strOut + " <param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" />"; strOut = strOut + " <param name=\"flashvars\" value=\"config={\'playlist\':[{\'url\':\'http://cdn.provdn.com/4931/thumbnail/frame_0000.png\',\'scaling\':\'fit\'},{\'url\':\'http://app.provdn.com/output_videos/0e7c9ace9c16d4351b5108133cf1efaceebe89bb\',\'autoPlay\':true,\'scaling\':\'fit\'}],\'plugins\':{\'controls\':{\'url\':\'http://app.provdn.com/flash/flowplayer.controls.swf\',\'playlist\':false,\'backgroundColor\':\'#000000\',\'tooltips\':{\'buttons\':true,\'fullscreen\':\'Enter Fullscreen mode\'}},\'bwcheck\': { \'url\': \'http://app.provdn.com/flash/flowplayer.bwcheck-3.1.3.swf\', \'netConnectionUrl\': \'http://cdn.provdn.com/bitrate/test.mp3\', \'bitrates\': { \'http://app.provdn.com/output_videos/542539e49d4056ce6d3968958313be3dee94614b\':200, \'http://app.provdn.com/output_videos/d31b9a3562c35244cb2c2a28bb4a9aaa1edd1995\':600, \'http://app.provdn.com/output_videos/0e7c9ace9c16d4351b5108133cf1efaceebe89bb\':1000 }, \'urlPattern\': \'{1}\', \'urlExtension\': \'swf\' }}}\" />"; strOut = strOut + " <param name=\"bgcolor\" value=\"#000000\" />"; strOut = strOut + " <param name=\"wmode\" value=\"opaque\" />"; strOut = strOut + " <!--[if gt IE 6]><!-->"; strOut = strOut + " <object width=\"334\" height=\"204\" type=\"video/quicktime\">"; strOut = strOut + " <param name=\"src\" value=\"http://cdn.provdn.com/4931/thumbnail/frame_0000.png\" />"; strOut = strOut + " <param name=\"href\" value=\"http://app.provdn.com/output_videos/54339bc0f4a7c39dd0d746f52139d3a6b6c46375\" />"; strOut = strOut + " <param name=\"target\" value=\"myself\" />"; strOut = strOut + " <img src=\"http://cdn.provdn.com/4931/thumbnail/frame_0000.png\" width=\"334\" height=\"204\" alt=\"No Video\" title=\"No video playback capabilities.\" />"; strOut = strOut + " </object>"; strOut = strOut + " <!--<![endif]-->"; strOut = strOut + " </object>"; document.getElementById('boldStuff').innerHTML = strOut ; } </script> <b id='boldStuff' onclick='changeText()'><img src="images/videoimg.png" alt="no video" title="Introductory Video" width="334" height="204"></b> <p><A HREF="/08_cont_03.html"><img src="images/OH012211.jpg" alt="button" width="161" height="181" title="Open House!" The AUDIO tag supports mp3's in Chrome. However, there are compatibility issues in other browers. The audio tag works in FireFox, but only with ogg files (which I don't have). And IE is pretty useless. So, I need to have the player play in Chrome normally (as it is now). If the browser does not support mp3s or the audio tag, I want to default to my Flash player. And, if flash isn't supported, then I want to have a download link. I thought that if the browser didn't support the audio tag, it would default to the embed code that I have listed in there ... but it isn't working. Odd. Any idea what is wrong? Since I am not a strong javascript programmer, I need some way to check this. Also, there is so much javascript, the I am very hesitant to play with the code anymore (as I may mess it up). Please help Hello, I'm trying to put some code together to create an image-swapping system, that when you click on the image it'll hide the image and replace it with a given iframe vimeo/youtube code... The swapping part works fine, however when the iframe loads up, it hides all other flash objects in the page, and I can't figure out why. Here's the JS Code: function swapvideo(w,h,url) { document.getElementById('video_pholder').style.display='none'; document.getElementById('video_code').innerHTML="<iframe src='"+url+"' width='"+w+"' height='"+h+"' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen allowFullScreen></iframe>"; document.getElementById('video_code').style.display='block'; } And here's the body Code: <div id="video_pholder"><a href="" onclick="swapvideo('700','394','http://player.vimeo.com/video/30620364?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0&color=FFFFFF&autoplay=1'); return false;"> <img src="image.jpg" width="700" height="393" /></a> </div> <div id="video_code" style="display:none;"></div> You can see it in action he http://blog.davidterranova.com when you click on the "krix" image. It'll hide the top header and also the other flash videos in the posts below. Any ideas why this is happening? I have 3 tabs with a flash video playing in each. If a user clicks on a video and then decides to move to another tab while the video is playing.... the video stops and the tab is switched. I am using the code below to achieve that. Code: onClick=player1.sendEvent('STOP'); player2.sendEvent('STOP'); player3.sendEvent('STOP'); this works fine if I have the tabs appearing in sequence with player1 embedded in the first tab, player2 in the second and player3 in the third. However, I wanted to randomize the tabs, in which case if tab 3 containing player3 appears first and is played and then the user switches to another tab the video keeps playing.... meaning the above code does not work in that instance. I am at a loss here cause i thought that the onClick event should be going through all the players and stopping them. website: http://tinyurl.com/ydalz2r (at the moment the tabs are displayed in sequence) So what I have to do is have 1 image on my webpage and a button. When the button is clicked the image needs to toggle back and forth between img1 and img2. After searching I've found ways to do this using the image itself as a button. But I'm having trouble getting it to work with an input button. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hi guys, I have this little snippet of code that swaps a toggle image for news for a plus or minus sign showing if the div is open or closed. This code has worked before but i made a couple modifications today and it stopped working unexpectedly and i'm not sure why its failing. I am presetting the div tag with a plus sign with css and then modifying it with javascript. The problem i am having is that when the div tag has been opened it does not swap the image to min.gif anylonger. It remains max.gif. Here's the javascript code Code: var News_Images = new Array(); News_Images[0]="images/max.gif" News_Images[1]="images/min.gif" function DisplayNews(body, box, link,id){ $(body + " > div > .news_box").each(function(){ if($(this).css("display")=="block"){ $(this).slideToggle("slow"); } }); $(body + " > div > a[class='open_button_closed']").each(function(){ // search and change the + / - images $(this).css("background-image",'url('+script_path+News_Images[0]+')');// }); $(body + " > div > a[class='open_button']").each(function(){ $(this).css("background-image",'url('+script_path+News_Images[0]+')');// }); if($(body + " > div > #"+box+id).css("display")=="none"){ $(body + " > div > #"+box+id).slideDown("slow"); $(body + " > div > #"+link+id).css("background-image",'url('+script_path+News_Images[1]+')');// alert("box =" + box + " id = " + id + " link =" + link); } } And here is the html sample Code: <div class="recent_news_box"> <a onclick="DisplayNews('#display_recent','news_link','open_button',3); return false;" id="open_button3" class="open_button"></a> <a class="link_block" href="">Some Title Text</a> <div style="display: none;" class="news_box" id="news_link3"> <img class="front_image" alt="" src="" align="right"> <span class="date">Jul 21, 2009</span> <div>Some Stuff to display here will be short text</div> </div> </div> Thanks in advance. Ok so I have a problem which I previously thought I had solved. I am creating a JavaScript Toggle off and on panel and although I have the code sussed for the toggling function there is something off on the image swap function I currently have it set up on two panels, so the code is used multiple times, the problem is it changes both buttons each time rather that just the one that was clicked. Anyway let's see what you think Javascript: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var imageURL = "../images/portfolio/open.png"; function changeImage() { if (document.images) { if (imageURL == "../images/portfolio/open.png") imageURL = "../images/portfolio/close.png"; else if (imageURL == "../images/portfolio/close.png") imageURL = "../images/portfolio/open.png"; document.images["img1"].src = imageURL; document.images["img2"].src = imageURL; } } </script> HTML: Code: <a href="#" onclick="toggle_visibility('job1');"><img name="img1" src="../images/portfolio/open.png" onClick="changeImage();"></a> <a href="#" onclick="toggle_visibility('job2');"><img name="img2" src="../images/portfolio/open.png" onClick="changeImage();"></a> Any idea what I have done wrong and why it is changing both of the images ('img1' and 'img2') instead of changing them seperately as they are clicked ?? Hi everyone, I have a set of "buttons" that expand/collapse information onClick, using Javascript that look like this... Here is the CSS I used to create the look of the "buttons"... Code: div.btn_workshops { background-image: url(../images/btn_workshops_mid.gif); background-position: top left; background-repeat: repeat-x; cursor: pointer; height: 22px; margin-bottom: 1px; width: 330px; } div.btn_workshops_lt { background-image: url(../images/btn_workshops_lt.gif); background-position: 0 0; background-repeat: no-repeat; height: 100%; width: 100%px; } div.btn_workshops_rt { background-image: url(../images/btn_workshops_rt.gif); background-position: 100% 0; background-repeat: no-repeat; height: 100%; padding: 3px 12px 0px 12px; width: 100%px; } .hide { display: none; visibility: hidden; } .show { display: block; visibility: visible; } Here is the HTML that contains the "buttons" and the text that will appear when you click on the "buttons" to expand them. Keep in mind that everything collapses when you click on any of the "buttons" a second time. This is done, using Javascript. Code: <div class="btn_workshops" onclick="expandWorkshops('workshop1');flipArrow('arrow1')"> <div class="btn_workshops_lt"> <div class="btn_workshops_rt"> <span class="workshops_hd">Basic Ceramics</span> - Jennifer Thompson <img src="static/images/arrow_down.gif" width="9" height="5" alt="" title="" class="arrow" id="arrow1" /> </div> </div> </div> <div id="workshop1" class="hide">Instructor: Jennifer Thompson<br /> Dates: October 9, 16, 23, and 30<br /> Hours: 2:30pm - 5:30pm<br /> Tuition: $250</p> <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Sed scelerisque tortor vel libero vulputate sit amet congue augue pulvinar.</p> </div> Here is the JavaScript I used to create the expand/collapse effect... Code: //Expand Workshops function expandWorkshops(obj) { var workshop = document.getElementById(obj) if ( workshop.className != "hide" ) { workshop.className = 'hide' } else { workshop.className = 'show' } } Here is my problem. I added the downward, red arrows to give users a "hint" that the "buttons" will do some action if you click on them. By default, I have the arrows facing down to show that information will appear below the "button." Then once a user has expanded a block of information, I want the downward, red arrow to change to an upward, red arrow. I currently have that working, but it is only working "one way." In other words, when you click on any one of the "buttons," the arrow does change, but it does not change back to the default when you click on a "button" a second time to collapse the information. Here is what it looks like with one of the "buttons" expanded. As you can see, I was successfully able to change the downward arrow to an upward arrow after the information expanded below. This helps show that the text can collapse upward if you click on the "button" a second time. Again, my problem is I am unable to get the upward arrow to return to its default, downward arrow appearance. This is what it currently looks like when you click on the "button" a second time to collapse the information. As you can see, my expand/collapse effect works, and the text goes away, but I am unable to get the upward arrow to change back to the default, downward arrow. This is the function that I added to my JavaScript, which successfully changes the arrow from down to up onClick, but fails to return the arrow image to default when you click again. Code: function flipArrow() { if ( document.images("arrow1").src = "static/images/arrow_down.gif" ) { document.images("arrow1").src = 'static/images/arrow_up.gif' } else if ( document.images("arrow1").src = "static/images/arrow_up.gif" ) { document.images("arrow1").src = 'static/images/arrow_down.gif' } } This is the full JavaScript that includes the expand/collapse effect and the unsuccessful swap arrow effect so you can everything together. Code: //Expand Workshops function expandWorkshops(obj) { var workshop = document.getElementById(obj) if ( workshop.className != "hide" ) { workshop.className = 'hide' } else { workshop.className = 'show' } } function flipArrow() { if ( document.images("arrow1").src = "static/images/arrow_down.gif" ) { document.images("arrow1").src = 'static/images/arrow_up.gif' } else if ( document.images("arrow1").src = "static/images/arrow_up.gif" ) { document.images("arrow1").src = 'static/images/arrow_down.gif' } } The flipArrow function I wrote is just my latest attempt. Believe me, I've tried all kinds of things, including "if else," "if else if," "if." I've tried Variables, getElementById, and switched out all different kinds of methods and ID's. No matter what, I can't seem to get any combination to work. Don't get me wrong. One of the previous methods I tried might have been the correct one, but I most likely did not write it correctly. I am no JavaScript expert at all. The code that I currently have was partly found on the Internet and partly modified by me after hours and hours of research and troubleshooting. I'm very proud that I was able to get this far, but I'm getting to the point where I am spending all day and night, every day, trying to figure this out. I always search forums before posting in them. This is probably the second time I've ever posted in a forum. I hope it helps. Sorry to ramble on. I just want to make sure you have as many details and samples as possible so I do not get any questions or confusion. Thanks for your help! I am hoping you guys can help me with this issue. What I am trying to do is fairly simple, depending on what option you select in the menu I want the picture to change to different picture. The code that I posted below works perfectly except for one problem. I need the option value to display the color name, and not have the image code in it. I have researched ways to do this without having to use "value" but I just can't find one that works. Can someone please help me? Thanks in advance for any help given! Code: function changeimg(){ document.getElementById('colors').src=document.getElementById('color_dropdown_options').value } Code: <label> <select name="color" class="dropdown_options" id="color_dropdown_options" onchange="changeimg()"> <option value="/images/thumbnails/image1.jpg">White</option> <option value="/images/thumbnails/image2.jpg">Blue</option> <option value="/images/thumbnails/image3.jpg">Green</option> </select> </label> Code: <div id="display"><img src="/images/thumbnails/image1.jpg" width="270" height="382" alt="" id="colors" /> I have a tiny flash player(with controls) in a table on it's own html page. It only plays one piece of music. But I need an unusual popup script which I can't seem to find. I want the tiny player (75 x 30) to popup on it's own without all the window (chrome?) surrounding it. I want it to be in either the top or bottom left corner. I would also like it to popup on load but turn off when I go to a particular page that I have a sound video on and then turn off completely when they leave the domain. It is a music site. Can some one please write a script like this for me and how do I get around annoying popup blockers. Hello guys, I've made a music playlist where you should be able to listen to music (of course). All works fine, i am capable too listen to all the music in my playlist. But, when i reload my website and click on a song, it send me an error message - "Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation. If you want the program to communicate with Internet, click on settings." When i click on settings, i get another message - "Sorry, this page is not available". I had also another Option instead of settings which where, "ok". When i click on OK it works fine and it's no problem to scroll through the musiclist and listen to all of the soft songs. But i don't even want the message to appear from the very first time. Do you know what i should do to get rid of the message? There seems to be some interference between the two JavaScripts as only one works (whichever one is last in order in the header of the HTML document). Links: http://www.courtneyhunt.com.au/press_bg.html http://www.courtneyhunt.com.au/press_gallery.html I am a complete novice with JavaScript so if anyone could help that would be great. Thank you in advance. I've recently picked up HTML and CSS, and am getting to grips really quickly. The principles are really straight forward, you just need to understand a few key principles and then with practice you can remember most tags/elements/attributes etc, although I would rather have the understanding rather then not have the understanding and remember all the tags (I can remember most tags I need anyway. So PHP and Javascript are obviously the next ports of call once I feel I am proficient with HTML and CSS. How hard is it to understand the principles of Javascript and become effective in it? I'm an online web design student and i'm currently taking a javascript class Ive used java in the past but that was ten years ago so ive been spending time refamiliarizing myself with it I've ran into a problem with the popup coding I was given to use I have to take this image gallery and make the image thumbnails pop up into the larger view of the image using just the java pop up window, but somehow for some reason my coding is opening up the image in both windows, the window that the thumbnails are on and the separate window, its frustrating me to death! i have to keep hitting the back button on the main page whenever i click on an image link because it opens it in both windows simultaenously. i have to submit the project because it's due but i want to work on getting this problem resolved for the future. I've attached a plain text notepad document to my post so you can see the coding Basically, i have an image that i want it to be resized when i maximize and change browser size, so it is always centered. I have to use only javascript. I tried many window.resize functions but nothing works. Lets say the image is called 0000.jpg. Anyone has any ideas how to make this? Thank you in advance. Hi all! I started using the JS-based Free Flash MP3 player on a site, but I'm stuck on what I thought would be a simple step. I tried their site for help, but at first their contact form was broken, and now their site is no longer up Here's what I'm trying to do, I need this player to access an external folder to generate the playlist. However, the player says to use a "relative" path only: Code: <!-- Script that embeds player. --> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> var so = new SWFObject("flashmp3player.swf", "player", "675", "300", "9"); // Location of swf file. You can change player width and height here (using pixels or percents). so.addParam("quality","high"); so.addVariable("content_path", "http://www.blessedhopeministries.com/sermons/Rev.%20Eddie%20Conard/"); // Location of a folder with mp3 files (relative to php script). so.addVariable("color_path","default.xml"); // Location of xml file with color settings. so.addVariable("script_path","flashmp3player.php"); // Location of php script. so.write("player"); </script> I need it to access: http://www.blessedhopeministries.com...ddie%20Conard/ These are both of my client's sites, but I'm just trying to upload to one central folder so that two players on two separate sites can access the same files. Here's a piece of JS that is in a .php file associated with this player. I'm not sure if it will help, but here it is: Code: class ID3{ var $file_name=''; //full path to the file //the sugestion is that this path should be a //relative path var $tags; //array with ID3 tags extracted from the file var $last_error_num=0; //keep the number of the last error ocurred var $tags_count = 0; // the number of elements at the tags array I'd appreciate any help from you pros and I apologize if I didn't post in the correct place. Thank you! Hey guys, Im a little stuck with a JQ script im trying to create. First the html: Code: <div id="image_holder"> <img src="images/default.jpg" id="image_swap" /> </div> <ul id="links" class="test"> <li><a href="#" name="images/01.jpg">Wall-E 2</a></li> <li><a href="#" name="images/02.jpg">Joker 1</a></li> <li><a href="#" name="images/03.jpg">Joker 2</a></li> </ul> What im trying to accomplish is: 1.) When the mouse enters #links I want it to create a bool staying true if it's in there false if it has left. 2.) if the mouse is: 2a) swap the current image loaded out with the new image to be loaded else: 2b.)swap the current image loaded out with the default image. I have several different attempts at this, this script below is a working attempt. But because im referencing the actual "a" attribute, whenever I goto hover on a new link, it will quickly show the default image... Code: jQ('#links li a').hover( function() { var img = jQ(this).attr("name"); var parent = jQ(this).parent().parent().attr("id"); jQ("#image_swap").fadeOut("medium", function() { // if mouse is within the #link id dont show default image if(parent === "links") { jQ(this).attr("src", img); jQ(this).fadeIn("medium"); } // if the mouse is outside the #link id show the default image }) }, function() { jQ("#image_swap").attr("src", "images/default.jpg"); } ); Also as a side note, before asking why im using the "name" attribute to store the URL of the image, it's because the href will be pointed to an actual page. Below is the routine I am using that when invoked swaps images for other images: Code: <script> function swapImage(swapContName) { if (swapContName == 'mainImage1') { document.getElementById('mainImage1').src = 'L1Bswap.gif'; document.getElementById('hand1').src = 'handr.gif'; document.getElementById('help1_pic').src = 'answers2.gif'; document.getElementById('homework').src = 'spacer.gif'; document.getElementById('instruct').src = 'spacer.gif'; document.getElementById('instructflag').src = 'spacer.gif'; } } </script> Fairly simple and works well. But one of the images I would like to vanish (using the empty spacer.gif) has a border: Code: <img id="instructflag" border="1" src="FLAG.gif" width="23" height="15" align="left"> It must have this black border, but when it gets swapped for a blank, I am left with the black square. Anyone have any idea how to vanish the border along with the graphic? (I have some vague idea that "border" is not used any more, but anyway...). Hey, I'm new to javascript, and I know there are a lot of tutorials out there. My only problem is that i'm finding it difficult to integrate stuff from different tutorials together. Basically, I want text links to swap the image on the website, but then want to allow a zoom function or lightbox function to the image that appears. I'm not best at explaining things so i've done an example below. After clicking the link, the image changes. i want to be able to do the zoom on the image that it's changed to. is this possible? any help would be much appreciated. http://www.jamesbutterworth.co.uk/untitled-1.html I have an on/off image piece of code: (probably out of date!) Code: <!-- var NN3 = false; image1= new Image(); image1.src = "photo1.gif"; image1on = new Image(); image1on.src = "photo2.gif"; function on3(name) { document[name].src = eval(name + "on.src"); } function off3(name) { document[name].src = eval(name + ".src"); } NN3 = true; function on(name) { if (NN3) on3(name); } function off(name) { if (NN3) off3(name); } // --> My problem is that I am trying to add sound to the clicking and mousing out of the image. Without sound, it works (and works exactly the way I want it to) like this; Code: <a href="javascript:myVoid()" onmousedown="on('image1');" onmouseover="off('image1')"> <img src="photo1.gif" name="image1"></a> Adding (flash)sound I can do this and it works OK too: Code: <a href="javascript:myVoid()" onmousedown="on('image1');mySoundObj1.TGotoAndPlay('/go','start'); return true;" onmouseout="off('image1');"> <img src="photo1.gif" name="image1"></a> But what I want to occur is that a second "swish" sound happens onmouseout (in the red place below) but ONLY if the mousedown has already occurred: Code: <!-- ... function on(name) { if (NN3) on3(name); } function off(name) { [SWISH SOUND HERE] if (NN3) off3(name); } // --> I hope this doesn't read complicated. I know it's really a simple toggle with an if, but I've tried dozens of things to no avail. I have to replicate this many hundreds of times in a website...and I have to stick with flashsound (which I like anyway). Any help would be appreciated. I am working on a demo for a movie site, and 90% of everything seems cool. Here I am doing php.flushes, .htaccess caching and using PNGs to help with performance. I might start using another sub site to grab all the scripting from to increase performance, but it seems a tad bit slow at the moment. - There are a few issues one being when you click on X-Men and look at the gallery the images seem to flicker sometimes going from image to image. I am using a fade script I found and then using setTimeout() to give the fade script time to do its thing then call for a new image. Code: FadeOpacity(main_img_id, 100, 0, 600, 12); setTimeout("updateGallery('"+target_arr+"','"+main_img_id+"')", 600); - Also in the same area I am checking clientHeight after each image modifying the marginTop. The thing with that is the clientHeight only seems to update after the second function call. I tried using a setTimeout() but that didn't nothing. Code: document.getElementById(main_img_id).src = "assets/movie_images/"+arr[i]; img_height = document.getElementById(main_img_id).clientHeight; Any suggestions with improving image load performance, the clientHeight issue or the image flickering issue would be appreciated. |
