JavaScript - Autocomplete Field For 'city' Based On 'state'?
Here is what I'm envisioning:
The user selects a state, then in the 'Cities' box, he starts typing the name of his city. However, it autocompletes the name for him based on the state he chose. So if he chose California and started typing in "Los Angeles", it would autocomplete "Los Angeles" for him. Does that make sense? Is there a script out there that can do this? Similar Tutorialshttp://auspost.com.au/apps/postcode.html Basically I want to build the same thing. The data is freely available there as a download. I couldn't find anything existing in the jquery plugin space. Can anyone offer pointers on how to achieve it? I would like to use a JavaScript to fill in the total based on the responses given by the user in this form stub:

Hey all, I'm trying to get the two followup questions underneath the checkbox to show up only if someone places a check there, but for some reason the way I've got it set up now it's simply hiding the area I want to show up altogether, and the checkbox has no effect on it. Rather than waste tons of space pasting it here, here's the pastebin: http://pastebin.ca/1822165 alternatively here is the live version: http://soniajacobwedding.com/site/rsvptest.html I'd prefer to have the form collapse when the additional questions are hidden, though if i can get this working at all I'd be pretty happy. Hello all, I am trying to copy the billing information to be the same as the shipping information when they select the checkbox. Everything seems to work except for the State field which is a drop down. Depending on what country they select, the state field will automatically populate. Does anyone know how I can copy the billing state to be the same as shipping as well? Text file attached. Thanks in advance. Hi friends, What I have been trying to achieve is, On my index.htm, I have a horizontal cell named "memberarea" which originally shows username & password input fields. After the user logs in, this area changes itself to a "Welcome Name, Lastname" field. I want that this cell displays again the username and password input fields in case of the session of the user has expired. I have tried it with the following code (within the Iframe in index.htm): ----------------------------------------- <script> if ("<%=session("LoginFirstName")%>" == "") { var m = " <p align="center"> <font style="font-size: 8pt; font-weight: 700" face="arial"> Username:</font> <span style="font-size: 1pt"> <input type="text" name="uid" id="uid" size="14" style="width: 65; height: 17; font-size: 8pt"></span><font face="arial" style="font-size: 8pt"> </font><font style="font-size: 8pt; font-weight: 700" face="arial">Password:</font><font face="arial" style="font-size: 8pt"> </font><span style="font-size: 1pt"> <input type="password" name="pwd" id="pwd" maxlength="10" size="14" style="width: 65; height: 17; font-size: 8pt"></span><span style="font-size: 1px"> </span> <input type="submit" value="Enter" name="B1" style="width: 35; height: 17; font-size:9px" onclick="return login()">"; window.parent.document.getElementById('memberarea').innerHTML=m; } </script> -------------------------------------------------- This code gives me the error that on the 12xx'the line (which does not exist-the whole code is 5xx lines). there is a ";" missing which I could not found. Any ideas how to achieve this? Thank you for your comments I have a text field, call it income, that when the input is > 0 I need to dynamically show the next text box, and if it is blank hide the next text box. I would like to use onBlur but can't seem to get it to work. Can I do this? Help Hi Experts, I have designed an online registration system for a non profit in ASP/SQL. After the members register for classes they are automatically redirected to an invoice page with class fees. At the bottom of the page I have a Total Fees field of all the classes. The member is supposed to pay this amount to our organization. Question: We decided to do an online payment this year and would like to calculate a 2% additional amount on the Total Fees. This amount is paid to the Payment Merchant site. We cannot afford to lose the 2% since we are a non profit. Would really appreciate if someone can tell me how to 1) Add a new field under the Total field 2) And calculate the 2% additional fees and do a Grand Total. Thanks in advance. I have two drop down fields. When I select any value in the first drop down i want the second dropdown to automatically populate the value related to the first one. I am trying to calculate age based on the date of birth input into a text field. the date field should allow users to enter a one or two digit month, one or two digit date and a two or four digit year. Users should be able to enter any of the following date formats: 11-2-10, 1-25-2010, or 01/25/2010. On some days it works and others it wont, like 11-1-91 returns that the user is under 18. Code: function checkAge(){ var stDate = document.getElementById("birth").value; var dayPartToDate = parseInt(stDate.substring(0,2),10); var monPartToDate = parseInt(stDate.substring(3,5),10); var yearPartToDate = parseInt(stDate.substring(6,10),10); var dtTo = new Date(yearPartToDate, monPartToDate-1, dayPartToDate); var mydate = new Date(); mydate.setDate(mydate.getDate()); var bday = dtTo - mydate if (bday < 18){ window.alert("You must be 18 to rent equipment."); document.getElementById("birth").value = ""; } } Hi Guys, i am wondering if there is a way to have an auto Complete form field from a db table data ? thanks Hi All, I have a form that captures member registration details. In the admin section .. I would like to change the Status field of a record/s from NEW to PAYMENT DUE after 14 days from the data of submission. The status change should automatically trigger on the 15th day. So when the admin checks the list page he/she should be able to view the updated status field. Any pointers how to accomplish this? Thanks in advance. Vinny Hi, Is there anyone who could help me figure out how to Change a Hidden Fields Name based on selected option. The hidden fields name is sent off and I need to change the name depending on what option they select. For if they select MyList the hidden field name needs to be SelectLists[40] or if they select testlist the hidden field name needs to be SelectLists[41]. This is probably way, way off but I've done this and it doesn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. <script language="JavaScript"> function changelist() { //here we assign the value of the hidden input to x x=eval(document.getElementByName("SelectLists[40]"); if(document.getElementById("SelectLists[40]").selected=true x=SelectLists[40] else(document.getElementById("SelectLists[41]").selected=true x=SelectLists[41] else(document.getElementById("SelectLists[42]").selected=true x=SelectLists[42] //now we assign the new value to the input document.getElementById("theHiddenInput").name=x; //and now we test alert(document.getElementById("theHiddenInput").name) } </script> <input type="hidden" id="theHiddenInput" name="SelectLists[40]" value="Yes"> <select class="inpBox" style="width: 287px" name='mailinglist' id="lists" onchange="changelist()"> <option value="SelectLists[40]" name="SelectLists[40]" id="SelectLists[40]">MyList</option> <option value="SelectLists[41]" name="SelectLists[41]" id="SelectLists[41]">testlist</option> <option value="SelectLists[42]" name="SelectLists[42]" id="SelectLists[42]">testlist2</option> I have a form that has a pretty complicated combo box - a user starts typing text, it queries a database for matches, and displays the results to the user. The user can then select the match they desire and it has a value id, which I am currently sending to a hidden field in the form. So, for example: user starts typing in a movie name, Seven - it returns Seven and user selects it. The form submits the id of the movie seven (say 12) to a hidden field. Where I am stumped: Once a user selects a movie title, I have another drop down select box that is to display the available formats of the movie by querying my database based on the product id (12) and returning the available formats in the list: DVD BLUERAY VHS I am pretty good at programming, but I cannot figure this out - how to make the select box fire and return results once the value for the textbox has been captured. Can anyone help me? Hi Guys, Im in need of some help with regards to forms. I am looking to build as basic as possible, a form that has 3 select dropdowns that have predetermined options. The user will select the first option and based on that option the second will populate and based on that, the third one will give the last option. Now, when the last one is selected, i need a div or a paragraph displaying information to be displayed. So here's the framework. Option 1 = fruit or vegitables of which fruit is selected is selected by the user Option 2 = Apples, Grapes, and pears of which apples is then selected Option 3 = Red, Green and Yellow of which Green is selected. Once green is selected, I need a description about the green aple to be displayed. Can anyone help me out on this? I am not sure where to begin and my boss is adament it must be done like yesterday. Ay help will be appreciated. Thanks. For various reasons, I need the value of my drop down box options to contain size information rather than price. However I would like to be able to calculate a price for the items based on what size the user selects as well as the quantity. Below is the code I came up with (which doesn't work obviously) What can I do to get this to work for me? Thanks in advance for any help! Code: <head> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- function calc(A,B,SUM) { var price = document.getElementById(A).extrainfo; var quantity = document.getElementById(B).value; document.getElementById(SUM).value = price * quantity; } //--> </script> </head> <body> <label>T-Shirt: <select name="T_SHIRT" id="T_SHIRT" onchange="calc('T_SHIRT','Tshirt_QTY','total');"> <option selected="selected">CHOOSE A SIZE </option> <option value="SIZE: SMALL" extrainfo="10.99">Small, 34/36 (S) </option> <option value="SIZE: MEDIUM" extrainfo="11.99">Medium, 38/40 (M) </option> <option value="SIZE LARGE" extrainfo="12.99">Large, 42/44 (L) </option> </select> </label> <label>QTY: <input type="text" id="Tshirt_QTY" name="Tshirt_QTY" onchange="calc('T_SHIRT','Tshirt_QTY','total')" /> </label> <label>Price: <input type="text" readonly="readonly" name="total" id="total"/> </label> </body> I am having trouble writing this javascript for my work, normally I would do this in ASP or PHP, but the environment I am working with will only allow javascript for dynamic function. The form has two different select boxes and based on your options selected for select box #1 and select box #2, the hidden input field "redirect" (which is currently empty) would then populate dynamically with the URL associated with that combination mentioned below. The hidden redirect input field (now containing dyanmically generated data) would then pass the new value via HTTP_POST to .net script that will handle the redirect processing step fed to it. I think the above mentioned method would probably be best. Code: <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> <!-- function build() { document.fillgaps.redirect.value = "http://www.widget.com/content/" + document.fillgaps.grade.value + "-" + document.fillgaps.solution.value ; //print example: http://www.widget.com/content/ELM-VOC return true; } --> </script> <form name="fillgaps" action="http://www.widget.com/submit.aspx" method="post" onSubmit="return build();"> <input type="hidden" name="redirect" value=""> <table class="elqFormTable" border="0" cellspacing="2" cellpadding="2"> <tr> <td valign="top">Grade:</td> <td> <select name="grade"> <option value="ELM">Elementary</option> <option value="MID">Middle School</option> <option value="HIG">High School</option> </select> </td> </tr> <tr > <td valign="top">Solution:</td> <td> <select name="solution"> <option value="VOC">Vocabulary</option> <option value="WRI">Writing</option> <option value="ELD">ELD</option> </select> <!--truncated code --> I need to have a script which suggests a list of towns, their longitude/lattitudes and timezones based on the user filling in a field. I've seen scripts like this on many different web pages, so you type in "London" and then it suggests "London, England", "London Ontario" etc. and you can select the correct one. Is there a widely used method of generating a script like this? I'm thinking Google API might be used for this type of thing but I'm not sure. Hi, I'm hoping this will be an easy one for you experts out there. I am working on a convention registration form. What I'm trying to do is have the text "50.00" pop into the COST field when any text (even if it's only one character) is entered into the NAME field. If the text in the NAME field is deleted, the "50.00" should also be deleted. Does anyone have a script that does this? Thanks! So I found this code and I've manipulated it a little bit for what I want. It was designed to autocomplete an input field when countries were typed, but I changed the values to match ingredients or cooking terms, etc. I was wondering if it would be possible through javascript to autcomplete a word after one is already typed in the input field. For instance, if one person types an 'f' into the input field it will suggest 'flour' as an autocomplete, but if the person types 'f' again, it will not perform the same autocomplete function. How would you go about doing that? Thank you! Code: <head> <script type="text/javascript"> /* This script and many more are available free online at The JavaScript Source!! http://javascript.internet.com Created by: Timothy Groves | http://www.brandspankingnew.net/ */ countries = new Array( "flour", "cup", "tsp.", "tbsp.", "lb.", "pound", "tablespoon", "teaspoon", "sugar", "olive oil", "vegetable oil", "gallon", "quart", "qt." ); var sug = ""; var sug_disp = ""; function getCountry() { var input = document.forms['address_frm'].country.value; var len = input.length; sug_disp = ""; sug = ""; if (input.length) { // get matching country from array for (ele in countries) { if (countries[ele].substr(0,len).toLowerCase() == input.toLowerCase()) { sug_disp = input + countries[ele].substr(len); sug = countries[ele]; break; } } } document.forms['address_frm'].sug_country.value = sug_disp; if (!sug.length || input == sug_disp) document.getElementById('sug_btn').style.display = "none"; else document.getElementById('sug_btn').style.display = "block"; } function setCountry() { document.forms['address_frm'].country.value = sug; hideSug(); } function hideSug() { document.forms['address_frm'].sug_country.value = ""; document.getElementById('sug_btn').style.display = "none"; } </script> </head> <body> <div style="width: 202px; margin: 100px auto 0 auto;"> <form name="address_frm"> <div></a> <div style="position: relative; margin: 5px 0 5px 0; height: 30px;"> <div style="position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 200px; z-index: 1;"> <input type="text" name="sug_country" style="background-color: #fff; border: 1px solid #999; width: 200px; padding: 2px" disabled /> </div> <div style="position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 200px; z-index: 2;"> <input autocomplete="off" type="text" name="country" style="background: none; color:#000; border: 1px solid #999; width: 200px; padding: 2px" onfocus="getCountry()" onkeyup="getCountry()" /> </div> <div id="sug_btn" style="position: absolute; top: 2px; right: 5px; z-index: 4; display:none;"> <p onclick="setCountry()" style="cursor:pointer">></p> </div> </div> </form> </div> </div> </body> How do I fix the problem that autocomplete does not validate, I have heard before that there is a dirty way to do this but did not want to do this before, but now feel i must as my boss wants the site error free ! does anyone know how I do this ? |
