JavaScript - Passing Sql Query To Js Array For Gmaps
I want to map a field, city, from a MySQL database into Google Maps. I found a nice script to do it, but haven't been able to get it to work.
If I hard code an array into locations (var locations = ['Seattle', 'New York']), it works fine. Passing this SQL array into JS is giving me problems. I've tried a number of different things, but I'm stuck. Right now I'm trying getElementById, but no dice. Any help is appreciated! Thanks. Code: <?php $server_name="localhost"; $db_user="sql_user"; $db_pass="password"; $db="mydb"; $sql = "SELECT city FROM posts"; $result = mysql_query($query) or die ('Query Error: ' . mysql_error()); while ($results = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $gender = $results[gender]; } ?> <div id="map_canvas" style="width: 600px; height: 400px"></div> <script type="text/javascript"> var locations = document.getElementById("$gender"); var mapOpt = { mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.TERRAIN, center: new google.maps.LatLng(38.00, -100.00), zoom: 3 }; var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), mapOpt); var geocoder = new google.maps.Geocoder(); var index = 0; var geocoderFunction = function () { geocoder.geocode({ 'address': locations[index] }, function (results, status) { if (status == google.maps.GeocoderStatus.OK) { new google.maps.Marker({ map: map, position: results[0].geometry.location }); } // Call the geocoder with a 100ms delay index++; if (locations.length > index) { setTimeout(geocoderFunction, 100); } }); } // Launch the geocoding process geocoderFunction(); </script> Similar Tutorialsthe "count" field/value on this JSON example for the MarkerClusterer app http://google-maps-utility-library-v.../src/data.json http://gmaps-utility-library.googlec.../examples.html i am trying to produce a similar JSON result and i cant figure out where their "count" variable is calculated at 10785236 for... but the following does not work Code: var data = { "count": 2, "photos": [{"photo_id": 1, "photo_title": "testing", "photo_url": "http://www.site.com/photo/522084", "photo_file_url": "http://www.site.com/avatars/test.jpg", "longitude": -97.6765157, "latitude": 31.1482230, "width": 500, "height": 350, "upload_date": "7 September 2010", "owner_id": 1, "owner_name": "b747fp", "owner_url": "http://www.site.com/user/1"} , {"photo_id": 2, "photo_title": "testing", "photo_url": "http://www.site.com/photo/522084", "photo_file_url": "http://www.site.com/avatars/test.jpg", "longitude": -118.4104684, "latitude": 34.1030032, "width": 500, "height": 350, "upload_date": "7 September 2010", "owner_id": 4, "owner_name": "test", "owner_url": "http://www.site.com/user/4"} ] } hey. ok so i have a page with an input field where a user can input a name. when they do so it will bring back the postcode for that name and then display a marker on a google map in the correct place. unfortunately some of the names have more than 1 result which means it needs to plot more than 1 marker on the map...ive spent a lot of time on this but cant figure it out. can someone help me please? here is the code for my page so far. <head> <title> New Document </title> <meta name="Generator" content="EditPlus"> <meta name="Author" content=""> <meta name="Keywords" content=""> <meta name="Description" content=""> <meta name="viewport" content="initial-scale=1.0, user-scalable=no" /> <style type="text/css"> html { height: 100% } body { height: 100%; margin: 0px; padding: 0px } #map_canvas { height: 50% } </style> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=true"> </script> <script type="text/javascript"> var geocoder; var map; function initialize() { geocoder = new google.maps.Geocoder(); var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(52.63512, -1.68992); var myOptions = { zoom: 8, center: latlng, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP }; map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions); } function codeAddress() { var address = document.getElementById("address").innerHTML geocoder.geocode( { 'address': address}, function(results, status) { if (status == google.maps.GeocoderStatus.OK) { map.setCenter(results[0].geometry.location); var marker = new google.maps.Marker({ map: map, position: results[0].geometry.location }); } else { alert("Geocode was not successful for the following reason: " + status); } }); } </script> </head> <body onload="initialize()"> <form action="maptest.asp" Method="POST"> <!--query = "SELECT id, tx_postcode FROM staff WHERE Left([last_name],1) Like '"&request("name")&"' ORDER BY id asc"--> <!--#include file="../admin/dataconn/dataConnOmiga.asp" --> <!--#include file="../omiga/include/functions-omiga.asp" --> <% query = "SELECT id, tx_postcode FROM staff WHERE last_name LIKE '"&request("name")&"' ORDER BY id asc" if request("name")<>"" then set avail = dataconnOmiga.execute(query) if not avail.EOF then While Not avail.EOF Response.Write "<b>" & "<div id=""address"">" & (avail("tx_postcode")) & "</div>" & "</b>" avail.MoveNext wend response.write "<input type=""button"" name=""submit"" value=""Plot on Map"" onclick=""codeAddress()"">" & "<br><br>" Response.Write "<BR>" end if ' Close the Recordset object and destroy it avail.Close Set avail = Nothing end if %> <!--#include file="../admin/dataconn/dataConnOmigaClose.asp" --> <input type="text" name="name" value=""> <input type="submit" name="submit" value="Search for Staff"> <div id="map_canvas" style="width:50%; height:50%"></div> </form> </body> ive never came across api's before and im very new to this so the more detailed you could be the better Hi, I know virtually nothing about js so here goes: I use the following script: Code: <script type="text/javascript">var showNav = false;var params='clubID=1784&compID=8041&leagueTable=y&orderTBCLast=Y&colour=147C99';var colour = '147C99';</script> The variable which needs to be called from another page is 'compID' - as I have about 20 competitions rather than hard-coding each page I hoped to generate this from the following: infocus/respage.php?cid=8041 <--- where I can change the compID from the 'calling' page. In my absolute naivety I thought I could simply change the code to this: Code: <script type="text/javascript">var showNav = false;var params='clubID=1784&compID=cid&leagueTable=y&orderTBCLast=Y&colour=147C99';var colour = '147C99';</script> But as the learned among you will realise this just doesnt work - any help appreciated! Hi all, I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with this problem. I have some JavaScript code that encodes (escapes) a string (typically a URL) - I then want to pass the encoded string to a php page via a querystring. Trouble is, the querystring doesn't contain the correct encoded string! For example - If we assume the string I want to pass contains the data : tester My encoder, encodes this as : %74%65%73%74%65%72 When the code then passes this in a query string to, for example, code.php the querystring comes out as follows : code.php?encstring=tester The following is the JavaScript code that encodes, shows an alert box with the correct encoded string in it and then calls the code.php with the encoded string attached. Please help? What am I missing here? Code: NOTE: variables: os is the input string and ns is the encoded string. Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var os='tester'; var ns=''; var t; var chr=''; var cc=''; var tn=''; for(i=0;i<256;i++){ tn=i.toString(16); if(tn.length<2)tn="0"+tn; cc+=tn; chr+=unescape('%'+tn); } cc=cc.toUpperCase(); os.replace(String.fromCharCode(13)+'',"%13"); for(q=0;q<os.length;q++){ t=os.substr(q,1); for(i=0;i<chr.length;i++){ if(t==chr.substr(i,1)){ t=t.replace(chr.substr(i,1),"%"+cc.substr(i*2,2)); i=chr.length; }} ns+=t; } alert(ns); window.location = "code.php?encstring="+ns; </script> I would like to pass an array to a function but how does the program know which array I would like to choose from?? Lets say I have 3 arrays and I would like to pass array C, to my function. I checked the web but they only show if you have ONLY 1 array but NOT for multiple arrays. How would I even go about doing this?? Code: var arrA=new Array("fox.com","nbc.com","abc.com", "google.com"); var arrB=new Array("car","bike","boat", "plane"); var arrC=new Array("1","2","3", "4", "5", "6", "7", "8", "9"); function display(myArray){ myArray[1] = "changed"; } display(myArray); document.writeln(myArray[1]); thanks Hi Guys I am new to javascript programming and I am trying to get elements from one array to another, here is an example of what I am trying to do; Code: oneArray[0] = anotherArray[10]; Essentially, moving the data in index 10 of anotherArray to the index 0 of oneArray. I have tried using a variable as a place holder such as; Code: placeHolder = anotherArray[10]; oneArray[0] = placeHolder; I know i'm doing something idiotic somewhere along the line, I just can't figure out what I need to do. Hello there, I was having some trouble with 2D arrays (or array of arrays). Essentially, the array has 100 rows, with two columns. The first column of every row holds a name, and the second holds a sales amount. With the use of a do while loop, the user can continuously add up to 100 names and sales amounts. After all the information the user wishes to add is stored into the 2D array I'm attempting to pass that very same 2D array as a parameter to a function called printRow as can be seen in the code below: Note: the function call and the actual function are found in two separate javascripts. Code: var salesPerson=new Array(100) for (i=0; i <=100; i++) { salesPerson[i]=new Array(2); } var x = 0; do { salesPerson[x][0] = getName(); salesPerson[x][1] = getSales(); x++; }while(x != 100 && confirm("Enter more employee information?")); printRow(salesPerson[][]); Code: function getName() { var nameEntered = prompt("What is your first name?"); return nameEntered; } function getSales() { var error; var salesEntered; do { salesEntered = prompt("What were your sales?"); error = false; if (isNaN(salesEntered) || salesEntered == null || salesEntered == "") error = true; }while(error); return salesEntered; } function printRow(salesPerson[][]) { for (i =0; i<salesPerson.length; i++) { document.write(salesPerson[i][0] + " " + salesPerson[i][1]); } } At the moment I'm only looking to print the contents of the 2D array that I pass as a parameter to the document. As is, the javascipt doesn't seem to execute at all, it worked fine up until I added the printRow function call and function which leads me to believe I may not be passing it as a parameter correctly. Any tips on how to do this correctly would be greatly appreciated! I need to get this script to work, I only included what im having the problem with. I am Using jQuery Library. Here is how this should work: .btnRoof div is clicked the parent id is retrieved as var pid a function called roof is called which simply changes a css background to "color" the function perform is called to get the "color1[0]" from the array. My Problem: perform() returns the word color1, color10, color1[0], or c. instead of images/cp-roof-blue.png as listed in the array. Code: $(document).ready(function() { var color1=new Array(); color1[0]="images/cp-roof-blue.png"; color1[1]="images/cp-panel-blue.png"; color1[2]="images/cp-trim-blue.png"; function perform(name, x) { alert(name[x]); //alert([name][x]); //alert(name+'['+x+']'); //alert(color1[0]); // correct return name[x]; } function Roof(color) { $("#colorPicker .roof").css("background", "url("+color+")"); } $('.btnRoof').click(function() { var pid = $(this).parent().parent().attr("id"); Roof(perform(pid, 0)); }); }); I tried to clarify as much as possible, please let me know if I need explain further. Thanks. I'm having trouble passing an array into an event handler. This does not work: Code: var lightbulb = [1,1,1,0,1,0] var banana = [0,0,1,1,0,1] function changetextimage(arr){ for(var i=0;i<5;i++){ var pixel = document.getElementById("text"+i); if (arr[i]) { pixel.style.color="#000000"; } else { pixel.style.color="#FFFFFF"; } } } $('#lightbulbpicture').mouseover(changetextimage(lightbulb)); $('#bananapicture').mouseover(changetextimage(banana)); This does work: Code: var lightbulb = [1,1,1,0,1,0] var banana = [0,0,1,1,0,1] function changetextimage1(){ for(var i=0;i<5;i++){ var pixel = document.getElementById("text"+i); if (lightbulb[i]) { pixel.style.color="#000000"; } else { pixel.style.color="#FFFFFF"; } } } function changetextimage2(){ for(var i=0;i<5;i++){ var pixel = document.getElementById("text"+i); if (banana[i]) { pixel.style.color="#000000"; } else { pixel.style.color="#FFFFFF"; } } } $('#lightbulbpicture').mouseover(changetextimage1); $('#bananapicture').mouseover(changetextimage2); I have a whole bunch of these arrays (which are much longer) that I want to pass into this function so I just want to pass each as an argument rather than write each function out. I bolded the areas I'm talking about so it's easier to see. I'm trying to pass titleArray and pointsArray to the task(); I'm getting an error mgs this.assignments() is not a function. I've highlighted this.assignments() Code: <html> <head> <title>Variable - Examples 1</title> <script type="text/javascript"> function Student(firstName, lastName, email, courseID, titleArray, pointsArray){ this.firstName = firstName; this.lastName = lastName; this.email = email; this.courseID = courseID; this.title = titleArray; this.points = pointsArray; this.assignments = task; this.totalPoints = addExam; this.finalGrade = calcGrade; } Student.prototype = { constructor : Student, toString : studentInfo }; var t = this.title; var p = this.points; function task(t, p){ var title = this.t; var points = this.p; var titlePoints = ""; for (var i=0; i < points.length; i++){ titlePoints += title[i] + " : " + points[i] + "<br>"; } return titlePoints; } function addExam(){ var assignments = [30, 30, 28, 27, 29]; var exams = [41,45]; var highOfTwo = Math.max(41,45); var sum = 0; for (var i=0; i < assignments.length; i++){ sum += assignments[i]; } return sum + highOfTwo; } var totalPoints = addExam(); function calcGrade(){ var grade; if (totalPoints >= 190){ return "A+"; }else if (totalPoints >= 180){ return "A"; }else if (totalPoints >= 175){ return "B+" }else if (totalPoints >= 170){ return "B"; }else if (totalPoints >= 165){ return "B-"; }else if (totalPoints >= 160){ return "C"; }else if (totalPoints >= 150){ return "D"; }else if (totalPoints < 150){ return "F"; } } function studentInfo(){ return "Student : " + this.lastName + "," + this.firstName + "<br>"+ "eMail : " + this.email + "<br>" + "Course ID : " + this.courseID + "<br>" + "--------------------------------" + "<br>" + this.assignments() + "--------------------------------" + "<br>" + "Total Points : " + this.totalPoints() + "<br>" + "Final Grade : " + this.finalGrade(); } var titleArray = ["Assignment1","Assignment2","Assignment3","Assignment4","Assignment5","MidTerm", "Final"]; var pointsArray = [30, 30, 28, 27, 29, 41, 45]; var student = new Student("FirstName", "Lastname", "myemail@gmail.com","COIN-070B.01", titleArray, pointsArray ); </script> </head> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> document.writeln(student.toString()); </script> </body> </html> I have inherited some code, and cannot get it to work. What am I missing? Thank you in advance. I want to pass dynamic array values to java script function.how its possible. explain with some code.........
Hello everybody ! I'm searching for a javascript function that convert array to query string. Like this example : Code: var array = { a=1, b=2, c=3 }; to a=1&b=2&c=3 I'm using jQuery and the function .serialize() convert only html forms. Does someone know a function to do this ? Thanks ! I've got the whole thing working correcting except for one thing: When the box is "not" checked it passes no value. I'm needing it to have a value of "1" when checked and a value of "0" when not checked, and currently when its not checked and i pass the info it leaves it blank. I'd post the whole code to one of the pages but it's long , so i'll post the snipits of the code. The 2nd case is an example of the check boxes. Thanks for looking at this, and giving any suggestions you might have! Hi, I have what I assume started as a simple error and then trying to fix it I think I have made things so complicated I've become confused. I have two fields, a drop down list and a text field, when someone clicks on a value in a drop down list (I will show the results eventually but at the moment) I just want the result to echo in my getCategory.php and the same for the text field. Both php pages are currently being called. And at the moment contain $_REQUEST['category'] and $_REQUEST['ProductName'] respectively. Nothing is being echoed. I know the below code is wrong, but the more I try to correct it the worse it gets so I thought I would just leave it as is before I made it worse. When this happens it's not passed. In the case of the title, it's just a problem of looks but in the case of the link, well, the link won't work without the character. As an example if the title is: Laptop + Accessories What is passed is: Laptop Accessories What can I do to pass also the plus character?? Thanks a lot!! Hi, I've had problems in the past understanding this, however, after reading this tutorial, I understand. In some languages, like VB6, I notice the "byVal" and the "byRef" is specifically used. In javascript, I don't notice those specifics typed in functions. Is the "default" by value when using in a function to change a parameter? If it is, what is the syntax for using by reference, or is that ever used? My question arises from this notation taken from here: Quote: Note that it is the value that a has at the time that it is passed into the function that gets substituted into the argument and not the value that the original variable has at that point in the processing. It is the values in the parameters that the function uses and not the variables. This is called pass by value . In those languages where you can pass the actual variable into the function instead of just passing its value the method used to do so is called pass by reference . Had we been able to pass the variables into the function by reference rather than by value then the final value in b would have been -16 instead of -14. Here is the example (passing by value): Code: function myfunction(y, z) { a += y; b -= z; } var a = 0; var b = 10; var c = 3; var d = 4; var e = 2; myfunction(c, d); myfunction(d, e); myfunction(9, 2); myfunction(b, a); Results: myFunction(c, d); output: 0 + 3 = 3(y), 10 - 4 = 6(z) myFunction(d, e); output: 3 + 4 = 7(y), 6 - 2 = 4(z) myFunction(9, 2); output: 7 + 9 = 16(y), 4 - 2 = 2(z) myFunction(b, a); output: 2 + 16 = 18(y), 2 -16 = -14(z) Thanks! |
