JavaScript - Can Someone Recommend Me A Good Free Javascript Editor?

I'm starting out in JS and I'm looking for a good editor. Preferably cheap or free

Anyone suggest something pls

Because of my rather second-rate vision; I would like to get an editor for my Javascript that will check my syntax for me. Missing or extra brackets, semicolons etc are the bane of my life.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Frequent reader, usually find my code fixes via Google... so first post, but I've been programming for a while... I've always been horrible at JavaScript... Java was easier for me. anyways...

My problem:
I am building a website for my fire department that i am a member. here is what i have www. explosive supplements .com(header picture is a mockup, being worked on by a graphic artist)
(spaced out for privacy, this domain is my testing website that i used to test my programming prototypes live without taking other sites offline.)

My main issue is IE7 and IE8 in compatibility mode

My Solution:
I need to make a popup/warning to tell those running IE7 to update their browser to view the website and a popup/warning to tell those who are running compatibility mode in IE8 to turn it off to view the webpage properly.

i thought about making a seperate template for IE7, but that still doesnt help with those running compatibility mode in IE8.

I just started learning javascript, and it'd be cool if I could find some kind of javascript reference site similar to php.net/manual with a quick reference search. After looking through google for a long while, all I could find was tutorial sites or reference books with the only way to navigate them is through boring tables of contents. Does such a place exist? Or what's the next best thing?

I have tried lightbox2 and jquery lightbox and I have the same problem with both.
I have added the javascripts and css files for the lightbox.

This is my code:

The problem hee is when you click on the image, it want you to save the file to your computer and not use the lightbox effect.

I have to put the image through getsnap.php?etc....

Any ideas?

I am Aditya. I am explaining below the exact scenario where I need the help:

I am developing a web application in which I need to integrate a javascript/html editor on some of the web pages and then provide 'Edit' buttons on those web pages so that users can edit the content on that partciular html/jsp page (like editing in wiki pages) and then, when they add some content and click on submit button, the new content should appear on the web page with all the formatting (i.e. bold, italics, color and so on) which was applied by user when he was entering the text.
Now, I need help for the below issues:
1. Please suggest me a good javascript/html editor (freely downloadable) which I can use to integrate with my web pages.
2. Once the user has entered some content using the above javascript editor, how to make that content reach the server and update the corresponding web page.

I am new to web development, so may be that these questions are too simple.
But, I need some help from you.

This is my first post.
I am reading "Javascript The Good Parts" ~ The Method Invocation Pattern Page 28

and tried this,

myObject.increment(2);
alert(myObject.value);

but alert(myObject.value); is returning a value of "2", when it should return "3".

Can someone help?

I'd google it but I'm not an expert at judging the age of code yet.

I currently use MSE but it keeps moving things around and changing the formatting of the code.

Can anyone recommend an editor that leaves things as I type them?

It is necessary to change something in it, but I do not know how?

When the inserted image in the editor, and then changes the image size, stretches the image in an editor, I want to record a change image size, without editor in <input type='text'> field.
Is there any idea how to bring?

I am trying to use the HTML created by openWYSIWYG editor on my site.

I am wanting to manipulate the created HTML that is generated...but I don't seem to be able to access it.

When I pass the value through to a PHP script, it functions in much the similar way that any other textarea does. What I want to do works fine with a standard textbox and acquiring the value using:

Code:

textareaid.value

But this doesn't seem to work when the openWYSIWYG editor is attached.

Does anyone know how I can do this??
