JavaScript - What Is The Best Book, Online Resource, And Software For Programming In Javascript?
I have to take more javascript programming classes and I'm really not good at it. I desperately need help. I own Visual Basic, but it's a little difficult to use. What is the best book, online resource, and software for programming in javascript?

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone knows of a great javascript book to buy. I am looking for something super duper hard core. I would love it to have documentation galore that includes all of the AJAX and DOM and XML. You know... like a javascript BIBLE. Something thick and comforting. Something that makes you feel all warm and toasty inside just knowing that it is there. So if I start running into some problem I can just glance at the book and rest assured that if the problem exculates not to fear. I have .... THE BOOK. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Michael Hi, I have a very old book on JavaScript, and just wondering if it would be wise to start from it. The book is: SAMS Teach yourself JavaScript in 24 hours - Second Edition (covers JavaScript 1.5) Let me know guys because I can get cracking on with it if so! What I need to know is whether or not JS has been updated since? I have come to the conclusion that this book title sux "New Perspectives on JavaScript, 2nd Edition " Is there a better book I can use where I can copy the sample programs that the book uses, that actually has good modern javascript technique, and has the other code that goes along with it like the html, the css, and the .jpgs all on the cd that comes with the book or something? "Professional JavaScript for Web Developers (Wrox Programmer to Programmer)" by Nicholas C. Zakas is a good book title it definitely clarified that crappy text book that my university gave me, but I'm ready to take the next step and start using sample code and apply the concepts I learned from that book. Please recommend anything I would need to be ubber programmers like all of you guys.
IndyNS I am trying to create a dynamic form on my webpage. What I want to do is repeat this process multiple times on the same page. I know I have to have unique id's but I am not for sure how to set them. // JavaScript Document function addRowToTable(){ var tbl = document.getElementById('Division'); var lastRow = tbl.rows.length; // if there's no header row in the table, then iteration = lastRow + 1 var iteration = lastRow; // var iteration = lastRow + 1; var row = tbl.insertRow(lastRow); // cell 0 var cell0 = row.insertCell(0); var el = document.createElement('input'); el.type = 'text'; el.NAME = 'Resource[]'; el.size = 30; cell0.appendChild(el); //cell 1 var cell1 = row.insertCell(1); var el = document.createElement("select"); cell1.innerHTML + '<option value="0">Avaliable</option>' + '<option value="1">Busy</option>' //cell 2 var cell2 = row.insertCell(2); var el = document.createElement('input'); el.type = 'text'; el.NAME = 'Comment[]'; el.size = 25; cell2.appendChild(el); } Hello all, I am having some trouble getting my Javascript code to work properly. I want to create a program that allows two objects to race to a certain point which is 1000px in my program. I have figured out how to get the images to race at random speed, and I have figured out a function to reset the program if the user chooses to restart. Basically I can't figure out how to get the clearTimeout() to stop the Race() function when it reaches 1000px. I am fairly new to the Javascript world and could really use some suggestions or a point in the right direction. Thanks in advance, AJ. Here is my program so far: <body> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> <!-- function StartUp() { if ((car1.style.pixelLeft<1000) && (car2.style.pixelLeft<1000)) { Race(); } else { alert(); } } function Race() { car1.style.pixelLeft+=(Math.floor(Math.random()*11)); car2.style.pixelLeft+=(Math.floor(Math.random()*11)); stop=setTimeout("Race()",50); } function Restart() { clearTimeout(stop); car1.style.pixelLeft=10; car2.style.pixelLeft=10; } function swapImage() { var image = document.getElementById("imageToSwap"); var length = document.getElementById("Road"); image.src = Road.value; } //--> </script> <div id="car1" style="position:absolute; top: 10"> <img src="Car1.gif" alt=""/> </div> <div id="car2" style="position:absolute; top: 75"> <img src="Car2.gif" alt=""/> </div> <img id="imageToSwap" src="Road1000.gif" alt=""/> <form name="form1"> <br> <input type="button" value="Race" onClick="StartUp()"> <input type="button" value="Restart" onClick="Restart()"> <br> Track Length: <select id="Road" name="Road" onChange="swapImage()"> <option value="Road1000.gif">1000 feet</option> <option value="Road750.gif">750 feet</option> <option value="Road500.gif">500 feet</option> <option value="Road250.gif">250 feet</option> </select> </form> </body> Hi so i am using onClick="myPopup(); on a button and when someone clicks on the button, it pops up an advertisement in a new tab. But is there a way to make the users stay on the page where the button is located instead of forcing the browser to automatically switch to the advertisement tab when a button is clicked? I typed this code straight out of the book and it just doesn't seem to work. I have the headlines on the left side and when clicked the contents of the headline is supposed to show up in the text box on the right. Well, needless to say, nothing appears. Please someone tell me what I am doing wrong. I am not the only person in the class having this issue. Thanks a million. Now, I have found this little (seemingly quite new) gem which has, for the first time, explained javascript OO programming to me in five minutes flat, and I understand it perfectly!! It's not hard ... it's really not that hard ... but so many people on the net make such a hash of trying to explain it. Thank you Mozilla: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/...ted_JavaScript Friend i concern with some that man told me , JavaScript programming is the best effective for website development. so how it is tell me ?
I need to know two things. How do you position an alert or prompt to anywhere on the screen. How do you change the font for the alert or prompt (i.e Hebrew) Thanks in advance D.A. Hope that makes clear.... Its very Urgent kindly help me with this.. Thnks in Advnce Hi, I'm in the process of learning JavaScript. I picked up a "JavaScript for dummies" book at the library and it wasn't going too well. It was poorly written and made it difficult to understand things in the later chapter. What is the best online resource to learning JavaScript? Preferrably one that is good at explaining format ( I often find myself wondering if certain aspects in my script need ()'s or a "=" sign). For example, HTML has tags and that is what forms the mark up. I know JavaScript has multiple aspects (functions, objects), but I want an online resourcethat properly explains the format of these aspects. Thank you I'm almost positive this question will make you groan "neewwwbie!".... I have a simple javascript that decides which 'div' to make visible, based on another element within the html. What i want now is to create a page where someone can view all the possible divs in that javascript that might appear and edit them (including href's, ital, bold and image tags.) Much like a CMS system, but the information is within a javascript, not a database. I would assume it's possible. What's a good way to approach this? It sounds like Javascript cannot edit .txt files. Is there a way to have the user access and edit an .xml file and just pull that into the div tag, instead of text? I come from an academic background, so when I finish something I'm proud of, I naturally want to have it certified and advertised by others. I'm thinking of a site that reviews scripts and classifies those that are accepted as to who may find them worthwhile. But I don't know of any modern analogue to the traditional refereed technical journals. By "analogue" I mean different in these key respects: Submitted "articles" are interactive web pages rather than printable papers; and "publishing" need not involve hosting the actual page, but more importantly, letting the world know of its existence and importance. I am aware of sites that review for a price, thereby suggesting the ability to be compromised. In some cases, the price is that the author forfeits his copyright. Personally, I'd be especially interested in a journal that accepts scripts published under a variety of open-source public copyrights (my personal favorite is the Creative Commons share-alike license). If you know of such a forum or online journal, I'd love to hear about it. And if not, might you be in the mood to start such a forum/journal? Hi... So I am looking for a book that basically goes from the very basics to middle level of java programing, but one that is up to date, and that explains everything, not like some of the books that just throws code at you and expects you to understand why you are making the class public and why it extends javaplugins, just something in depth that really explains why for everything.
