JavaScript - Img As Data

Hi, I am trying to pass data from one page to the next using a search. I have a search engine and im trying to get it to pass the data of the search to the search results page. im using this code Code:

the data being used in the chart example above looks like this:

I guess that the long number is the date?!

The data I have is:

a date that is coming from my database which was added using the date(); object

and

a numerical figure such as 21.365 or 30.432 or 36.856

the 2 variables I'd like to use a bmires, addedOn

I am working on a simple movie database to practise my JavaScript and have encountered difficulty extracting information from the xml file. Let me explain my scenario. Sorry if it gets a bit long-winded!

The interface I have created has three columns which each serve the following functions:

Column 1 -> The user selects a film of their choice.

Column 2 -> Once the user has selected a film in Column 1 then more information about the film appears in this column. This includes title, director and cast. The user has the option of then selecting a cast member to find out information about them.

Column 3 -> Once the user has selected a cast member in Column 2 then their name and a picture of them appears in this column (using the <img> tag). This information in this column also includes the film title, film artwork (applied <img> tag).

But the difficulty I have encountered is as follows - I have a rough idea of how to update column 2 in real time to reflect the changes in Column 1.

The method I am using for acquiring the relevant information in Column 2 is creating an array then using the indexOf to retrieve a the details of a specific film. I know this method is wrong and it would be better to pull the relevant information from the xml file.

How do I use the idx from the Column 1 selection to pull out the relevant information to put in Column 2 and 3?

I read something about naming each element something such as 'el[]' and then iterating through it on the PHP side, but that didn't make much sense to me. I have only been using PHP for a few weeks now so I'm pretty new. Thanks for the help!

This is what i am trying to do. I want to have data called up when a certain number is entered. If the correct item # is entered, the information is pulled up. Is this a good application for javascript? or for something like flash and actionscript? I'm brand new to both, but i'm very willing to learn.

I have a rather complicated problem for me as it involves both php and js. And I'm getting lost... Let me explain:

On a page, order.html, I have a form including the following fields:
- name
- email
- comment

When posted, it is linked to request.php and request.validation.js, to end up on confirmation.php.

On confirmation.php, I would like to reuse the information entered in the fields on order.php (name, email, comment) to display them on the page.

My issue I can't find how to 'take them along' in request.php / request.validation.js to confirmation.php where I'm trying to display them with :

How can I do that?

I am a novice with JavaScript, and I was wondering how I would reorder a list of data. I googled this and found some ways but none of them really applied to me.
I have a database with names of courses (its for a restaurant), they all have an ID which ranges from 1-8 (I only have 8 courses so far). I can add and delete courses from this table but I would like to be able to reorder theses courses, in other words change their ID, without having to go into the database and manually change itself.

I almost have the website finished, at least functionally (the complicated backend). It will arguably be one of the coolest history sites on the web.

But I am running into some technical problems, and want to ask you about them, as I am at a point where that is my only alternative.

First is in the website:

There is the line:

Timeline.loadXML("http://184.73.182.71/14OZH01XY.xml", function(xml, url) { eventSource.loadXML(xml, url); });

This is loading an XML data file into the time-line, and it works fine. The question is, why cant I dynamically load this data from a process, like:

Timeline.loadXML("http://184.73.182.71/getdata.php?page=10", function(xml, url) { eventSource.loadXML(xml, url); });

It is returning the exact same thing, yet it dosent work.


Somebody suggested the following:

eventSource.loadXML(eventSource.loadXMLText(xmlstring,),"http://184.73.182.71/getdata.php?page=10");

But that dosent seem to work either.

And can I do the same thing with a script tag, such as:

<script src="http://184.73.182.71/getdata.php?page=10" type="text/javascript"></script>


Is this illegal?

i am using the jquery plugin uploadify as an image uploader, i want the image to be able to be uploaded and then redirected to another page where you will see a thumbnail of the picture and be able edit the caption, description, etc... ... i am not interested on how to do it but only how to control variables from the files uploaded.... i have uploadify on a upload.php and it accesses the script uploadify.php to process the file handling

in a regular php uploader, i could put the uploaded file information into variables and redirect to another page and use those variables... with uploadify i am not sure how to accomplish this... i can't use uploadify.php to create variables to be used, after the upload, the user remains on the page uploadify is installed on(upload.php)... how can i take the file information and put it into variables and be redirected with the ability to call those variables

i'm sorry i am new to javascript and i'm trying to understand it the best i can, if someone could help me achieve this
