JavaScript - Help With Running A Onclick Event On A Href Attribute
Hey Guys,
Im a PHP developer and am quite new with javascript. I wanted some help on the hyperlink onclick event. Bascially I output a list of a href hyperlinks on a html page that goes all the way to the bottom of the screen. I wanted to add a onclick event to the a href tag that would pust the user right to the top of the page. I want to achieve this using javascript onclick event. Can someone plz point me in the right direction! Thanks, Ket Similar TutorialsRight, so there are a bunch of links in this format: <a href="/profiles/########">username</a> I'm using greasemonkey, and what I want to do is go through and get all of the /profiles/######## part of the anchor tag. I'm using Regex and I can't seem to get a match. This is what I have so far: Code: function ok() { var names = document.getElementsByTagName('a'); var reg = new RegExp("WHAT GOES HERE?"); var e = "links:\n"; var i = 0; while(i<10) { e += reg.exec(names[i].href) + "\n"; i++; } alert(e); } ok(); what is actually desired is I want there to be a way I can select these somehow as well.. When overlay(url) is fired theAgree.href is not being updated with theURL. theURL is being passed correctly, but in IE8 and below it never updates the ID "agree" with the URL. So when you click the "agree" link it just opens a new window using what's in the href which is #. In all other browsers the JS below will rewrite the "agree" URL with the URL that's sent to overlay(). But of course, not in IE8 and below. Code: function overlay(url) { var theURL = url; var theAgree = document.getElementById('agree'); theAgree.href = theURL; var theOverlay = document.getElementById('overlay'); theOverlay.style.visibility = (theOverlay.style.visibility == "visible") ? "hidden" : "visible"; } function overlay_close() { var theOverlayClose = document.getElementById("overlay"); theOverlayClose.style.visibility = "hidden"; theOverlayClose.style.display = "none"; } Code: <map name="Map" id="Map"> <area shape="rect" coords="382,1,573,237" onclick="overlay('http://site3.com'); return false;" href="#" /> <area shape="rect" coords="192,0,383,236" onclick="overlay('http://site3.com'); return false;" href="#" /> area shape="rect" coords="2,1,193,237" onclick="overlay('http://site3.com); return false;" href="#" /> </map> Code: <a name="agree" id="agree" href="#" onclick="overlay_close()" target="_blank" class="button"> Page: http://www.libertyvillesavingsbank.c...c-studio-card/ Hello; I am testing some code that finds and element and attempts to add an event handler attribute to it as 'onclick' (test case in Firefox 3.5.9) /* The actual code is: window.onload = function() { //<irrelevant code> var test = document.getElementById('tstEl'); test.setAttributeNode('onclick'); test.setAttribute('onclick', "alert(\"Don\'t get testy\")"); } */ The error per the js console in Firefox is: Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Could not convert JavaScript argument arg 0 [nsIDOMHTMLInputElement.setAttributeNode]" nsresult: "0x80570009 (NS_ERROR_XPC_BAD_CONVERT_JS)" location: "JS frame :: http://192.168.1.6/<pathInfo>/SC_branch2_dev.php :: anonymous :: line 35" data: no] I am trying to do this because Element.addEventListener or Element.attachEvent won't allow for arguments to be passed to the event handler code/function. What is going on here? The only line referenced, line35, in the document text containing javascript code is irrelevant to the problem. Thank you for time, interest and attention; WhoEverIReallyAm What I am trying to achieve, is a button that calls a function that changes the onclick attribute of that button, so that when it is clicked again, it resets the onclick attribute to call the default function. here is what the stripped down code looks like: Code: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function remove_prep(a){ a.value="cancel"; a.onclick="cancel_remove(this);"; } function cancel_remove(a){ a.value="remove"; a.onclick="remove_prep(this);"; } </script> </head> <body> <input type="button" value="remove" onclick="remove_prep(this);" /> </body> </html> for some reason, it only fires once, after which it ceases to work properly. thanks for the help this part of my code is killing me. I have an external js file which contains the function which for now opens an alert box. The div on the page should run the function when it is clicked but it isn't. I have tried changing the function to an alert to check the click event is working and i have tried running the javascript in the address bar Code: javascript:hasFocus(); to ensure it has loaded correctly. Both are working fine and i am getting no errors. Below is a snippet of the code: Code: function hasFocus() { alert("a"); } Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" src="scripts/cms.js"></script> </head> <body> <div id="tab_panel"> <div id="tabs"></div> <div id="content" contenteditable="true" onclick="hasFocus();"></div> </div> </body> </html> Thanks in advance At first : Peace of code i have now: Code: <a onclick="doRate('-1', '{$id}'); return false;"><img src="{THEME}/dleimages/down.gif" title="Blogai(-)" alt="Blogai(-)" class="r2-unit" width="16" height="16" align="absmiddle" /></a> So i thinking that if user has JavaScript in his browser disabled it won't work. So gonna change it to this : like i saw in other webs: Code: <a onclick="doRate('-1', '{$id}'); return false;" href="llink.html"><img src="{THEME}/dleimages/down.gif" title="Blogai(-)" alt="Blogai(-)" class="r2-unit" width="16" height="16" align="absmiddle" /></a> But i'm afraid that if user WILL have JS support enabled, href tag will be executed anyways. Any ideas? We have a function that validates a form and then does submit (and a bunch of other stuff) We called it using: Code: <td class="MyButtonStyle"> <a href="#" OnClick="MyFunction();" title="Save changes and continue">SAVE</a> </td> This worked fine on the browsers we were using (IE6 in the main), but we now find doesn't work on IE5.01, Mac and some others. OK, so having done some research I now realise I needed RETURN FALSE in OnClick. So ... faced with having to change a lot of pages I'd like to have the best possible syntax (by which I suppose I rellay mean most-browser-compatible), and I've seen a number of options; advice on picking a good'un would be much appreciated. Amongst the stuff I've seen is: Code: 1. href="#" onclick="MyFunction();return false;" 2. href="#null" onclick="MyFunction();return false;" 3. href="NoJavaScriptAbility.htm" onclick="MyFunction();return false;" 4. href="#" onclick="return MyFunction();" 5. href="javascript:;" onclick="return MyFunction();" 6. href="javascript://" onclick="return MyFunction();" 7. href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="return MyFunction();" 8. href="javascript:MyFunction();" What about what shows in the Status bar? Should I have an OnMouseOver event too to describe what MyFunction is going to do? Rather than displaying a meaningless link. Anything else to note? (This function is part of a library being reused for major web site development over the next however many years, and not for single-project build-and-throw-away, so all possible functionality, including The Kitchen Sink!, is up for consideration). Thanks Kristen i have the code: foreach($product_names as $product_row) { ?> <tr> <td > </td><td width='200px'><?php echo $product_row->getName();?></td> <td width='200px'><input type="checkbox" name="graphic[]" value="<?php echo $product_row->getId();?>" onclick="check()"/></td> <td width='200px'><input type="checkbox" name="text[]" value="<?php echo $product_row->getId();?>" onclick="check()"/></td> </tr> <?php } ?> and a submit button on the page. the i also have the javascript code for the onclick="check()" : <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function check() { var graphics = document.getElementsByName("graphic[]"); for(i=0;i<graphics.length;i++) { if(graphics[i].checked) { if(document.getElementById('submit').style.display=='none') { document.getElementById('submit').style.display='block'; } } } var text = document.getElementsByName("text[]"); for(i=0;i<text.length;i++) { if(text[i].checked) { if(document.getElementById('submit').style.display=='none') { document.getElementById('submit').style.display='block'; } } } } </script> </head> so what all this means is i have two arrays of checkboxes for each product. as soon as i check any checkbox the submit button appears. i click on the submit button and i go to the next form. the problem now comes in if i click on the "back" button to go back to the previous page via the bwrowser..the submit button is disabled althou all my checkboxes that i checked, are still checked....i want the submit button to show??? please help?? thanks Have spent over 40 hours trying to make something like this work. Any help will be received with profound gratitude. Code: <!-- First, we reference a script whose purpose is to create a space for session variables similar to cookies. Works if it appears early in body of Drupal page, so this is not the issue (Drupal parses pages down for display so there is no user <head> tag). --> <script type="text/javascript" src="sessvars.js"></script> <script language = "javascript"> <!-- We create the variable whichpage because we will be creating a session variable sessvars.whichpage courtesy of the sessvars.js script--> var whichpage; <!-- Next, we create a lookup table: --> var myTable = new Array(); myTable[1] = "001_Front_Cover_jpg.jpg"; myTable[2] = "002_Inside_Front_Cover_jpg.jpg"; myTable[3] = "003_Frontispiece_Design_jpg.jpg"; </script> <!-- Next, we create a table with thumbnails; each thumbnail image is a hyperlink which, onClick, is supposed to run a script assigning a value to sessvars.whichpage, so when Drupal node 23 is reached, it can use the value of sessvars.whichpage to select the array (myTable) element which corresponds to the full-sized picture we want to load. Node 23 also has the lookup array (myTable). The node inserts the snippet contained in the myTable element into a URL of the picture to load. --> <!-- Here we define the table --> <!-- Next, we have a series of hyperlinks which present the table with thumbnails so clicking on the thumbnail assigns a value to sessvars. whichpage and then transfers to the node that uses that value: --> <a href="23" onClick="<script language = 'javascript'> sessvars.whichpage=1; </script>" <img> </img> </a> <a href="23" onClick="<script language = 'javascript'> sessvars.whichpage=2; </script>" <img> </img> </a> <a href="23" onClick="<script language = 'javascript'> sessvars.whichpage=3; </script>" <img> </img> </a> <!-- The problem is that this flat does not work. When we get to node 23 sessvars.whichpage shows as undefined. It used to work when I called a function instead of put the script into each link, but I found there was no simple way to get the value (1,2,3 etc.) to the function --> Is there an answer. Thank you so much in advance. Leon Malinofsky Hello Everyone, I am in the process of creating a billboard script for our company front page which will switch between two images. I am using the following script as a base: http://tympanus.net/codrops/2009/12/...query-and-css/ I am eager to learn coding, but am still a novice at it so I was wondering if anyone could assist me with adding the following functionality: 1. Rather than (or perhaps in addition to) having the two images change based on a timer, I'd like to be able to insert a "next" arrow. Therefore I will need assistance in coding a button to change the images from "ad_1" to "ad_2" which is currently done automatically by the interval timer 2. I'd like to make the images clickable with unique destinations (so when you click on "ad_1" it will take you to "link 1", "ad_2" will take you to "link 2" Below is my current code: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>Rotating Billboard with jQuery</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"/> <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/style.css" type="text/css" charset="utf-8"/> </head> <body> <div class="palmtrees"></div> <div class="powerline"></div> <div class="city"></div> <div class="container"> <div class="ad"> <div id="ad_1" class="ad_1"> <img class="slice_1" src="ads/ad1_slice01.jpg"/> <img class="slice_2" src="ads/ad1_slice02.jpg"/> <img class="slice_3" src="ads/ad1_slice03.jpg"/> </div> <div id="ad_2" class="ad_2"> <img class="slice_1" src="ads/ad2_slice01.jpg"/> <img class="slice_2" src="ads/ad2_slice02.jpg"/> <img class="slice_3" src="ads/ad2_slice03.jpg"/> </div> </div> </div> <div class="billboard"></div> <a class="back" href="http://tympanus.net/codrops/2009/12/16/creating-a-rotating-billboard-system-with-jquery-and-css/"><a> <script src="jquery-1.3.2.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script> $(function() { $('#ad_1 > img').each(function(i,e){ rotate($(this),500,10000,i); }); function rotate(elem1,speed,timeout,i){ elem1.animate({'marginLeft':'18px','width':'0px'},speed,function(){ var other; if(elem1.parent().attr('id') == 'ad_1') other = $('#ad_2').children('img').eq(i); else other = $('#ad_1').children('img').eq(i); other.animate({'marginLeft':'0px','width':'266px'},speed,function(){ var f = function() { rotate(other, speed, timeout,i) }; setTimeout(f,timeout); }); }); } }); </script> </body> </html> And here is a working example: http://www.santamarinas.com/RS/Tests/Billboard/ Thank you in advance for your help!! Hi, New to javascript. Doing web page with ASP/VB.NET. Have text boxes for UI on page. Two command buttons - Submit (for db update) and Cancel. I need the Cancel button to prompt the user to verify cancellation. Need OK/Cancel buttons on alert. If user selects Cancel-no action. If user selects OK then I want the text boxes cleared of user text input and focus returned to first text box. I think this may be the code but do not know how to apply it. function Clear() { var res=window.confirm("Please confirm cancellation-text boxes will be cleared"); if(res==true) { document.getElementById("StrtDte").value=""; document.getElementById("EndDte").value=""; document.getElementById("txtProjRegHrsAl").value=""; document.getElementById("txtProjOTHrsAl").value=""; document.getElementById("ddlRAS").focus(); } } Is this code valid or invalid for the events I need? How do I set it to fire when user clicks the ASP Cancel button? Thanks, John Hello forum, My name is juan and recently started html programming. I have a web page with a drop box with the name of states. Code: <option value="">Alabama</option> <option value="">Alaska</option> I can add a onclick="code here" to the tag so that when the drop box alabama is selected it triggers the onclick event. Im using Ibox in order to have a image of the state open. Code: <a href="images/large/image_1b.jpg" rel="ibox" title="alabama at 1024x450!"><img src="images/small/image_1.jpg" alt=""/></a> the above is a <a> link tag correct? How do I go bout adding the above code into the onclick event? I'm having an issue where a programmatic click event is not behaving the same way the cursor click event is. A cursor click returns the correct object from GetObject(). The programmatic click triggered by a USB device is returning undefined from GetObject(). How can this be resolved? Edit: It appears that it does not recognize eval(document.getElementById(gButtonList[gButtonId])).onclick(); as an event. Why is this? How can I get it to recognize it? Edit2: Resolved it myself. See green text below. TestPage.htm: Code: <script language="JavaScript" src="../bin/USBHelperFile.js"></script> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/JavaScript"> function BuildButtons() { for (var i = 0; i < testArray.length; i++) { // Create Div [Buttons created programmatically] var divNode = document.createElement('div'); divNode.id = 'div' + i; divNode.onclick= ClickFunction; etc... } } function ClickFuntion(nodeButtonNum) { alert(GetObject()); Returns the index for a cursor click. Returns undefined for the programmatic click triggered by the USB device } function GetObject() { var node = event.srcElement; return node; } </script> USBHelperFile.js: Code: This JS file works with a USB hardware device that can navigate through divs and click them when they have focus. function HelperFunction(keyCommand) { switch (keyCommand) { case: "click": // eval(document.getElementById(gButtonList[gButtonId])).onclick(); var target = eval(document.getElementById(gButtonList[gButtonId])); target.fireEvent("onclick"); break; } } hi, i need to be able to take the values from two text boxes and change the location of a sprite on my canvas, i've searched the internet and it doesnt really explain how to do it for me. here is my code: x: <input type="text" name="x" id="x"/><br /> y: <input type="text" name:"y" id="y"/><br /> <input type="submit" value="Submit" onClick="ChangeCo()" /><br /> function ChangeCo() { } and i need the function to take the x and y values from the text boxes and change the values of my variables: var block_x; var block_y; block_x = 290; block_y = 70; Thankyou in advance Hi I would like to use javascript to control what tooltip displays when a tab is rolled over depending on which tab was clicked. Code: <li id='1tab_1a' class='selected'><a id='1link_1a' title="Customer Info Screen"><span >Customer Info</span></a></li> <li id='1tab_1b' ><a id='1link_1b' title="Order Detail" ><span>Order</span></a></li> <li id='1tab_1c' ><a id='1link_1c' title="Phone Detail" ><span>Phone: 7093521232</span></a></li> For example when the Customer Info tab is selected I would like the tooltips to be like above but when Order is the tab selected I would like the tooltip to say Customer Info Detail, Order Detail Screen, and Phone Detail. How could I use an onclick event to control what tooltip is being displayed depending on which tab is selected? I have about 20 sets of customer info and sometimes not everyone contains all of the tabs and I would also like to be able to add more customers. Hi, I am trying to get my onclick event to handle both of the function below. I want the event to return false (stop executing) if any of the two functions return false. Here is my code: Code: function isNumeric(elem, helperMsg){ var numericExpression = /[0-9]+/; if(!elem.value.match(numericExpression)){ SaveRecord(); return true; }else{ alert("You cannot enter numbers in the Comments field."); return false; } } function lengthRestriction(elem, min, max){ var x = elem.value; if(x.length >= min && x.length <= max){ SaveRecord(); }else{ alert("Please enter between " +min+ " and " +max+ " characters in the Issue Number field"); } } Please help me. Thank you. I assum the following html code: <div id="id1" onclick="click()">A<div> <div id="id2" onclick="click()">B<div> Do you know how to get ID = id2 when I onclick on A? I've got a checkbox that, when clicked, displays new text inputs. However, when I "uncheck" the box, the fields don't disappear unless I reload the entire page. What code can I add to reset the box to null when it is unchecked? Here's the function code I have: Code: <script> function showUserReg() { document.getElementById("userReg").style.display = "inline"; } </script> And here's the inline code: Code: <input type="checkbox" name="additional" value="userRegister" onclick="showUserReg()"/> Yes! Register me now!<br/> <span id = "userReg" style="display:none"> <table class="nobord" align="center"> <tr> <td>Choose a username:</td> <td><input type="text" name="username" size="35"/></td> </tr> <tr> <td>Choose a password:</td> <td><input type="password" name="password" size="35" maxlength="20"/></td> </tr> <tr> <td>Confirm password:<font color="red">*</font></td> <td><input type="password" name="password" size="35" maxlength="20"/></td> </tr> </table> </span> Thanks for any help. I was trying to help someone on another forum and seem to have run into a brick wall. The main problem that has got me stumped at the moment is that clicking on the images in the 1st tab work fine. However the subsequent tab selections and clicks do not change the "bigImage" correctly (not at all). Perhaps some other more experienced forum members can identify what I doing wrong at this time. I believe it is in my set-up of the onclick events in the "onload=" section, but I not the best at this event stuff yet! I need a way to catch the clicks that happen within the iframe but from the main section of the page..heres why! this is inserted at the top of the page if(top.location==self.location){top.location="RefESI_search.asp";} just above top.document.reset.RefCat.value= I can get the page to load even with this in the iframes ..but for the purposes of this i left it out so the page would load ok for anyone thats gonna try and help . theres only 2 links in the code.. hopefully whatever will hopefully solve this problem will be able to tell which links were clicked, and i can can point them to the apropriate links. I've looked thru alot of the threads so i know there are some extremely brite ppl in here that can knock this problem out of the ball park very easily.. you can grab the styles sheet from here https://www.docs.sony.com/reflib/Style_esi.css Code: <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <title>Ref_Lib_Results</title> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="home.css"/> <script language="javascript"> top.document.reset.RefCat.value="Home Receiver"; top.document.reset.NarrowRef.value="Good"; top.document.reset.criteria.value="stra"; top.document.reset.searchscope.value="model"; top.document.reset.companyscope.value="SONY"; top.document.reset.company.value="SONY"; if(""==""){top.reset();} function popUp(URL,Name) { var day = new Date(); var id = "page" + Name; window.open(URL, id, "toolbar=1,scrollbars=1,location=0,statusbar=1,menubar=0,resizable=1,width=600,height=600"); } function launchjsmanuals(flag, x, y, z, id) { //var myTypeLib = new ActiveXObject("Scriptlet.Typelib"); //var GUID = new String(myTypeLib.guid).substr(1,8); //var endguid = new String(myTypeLib.GUID).substr(25,10); if((x.indexOf("CHM")!=-1) || (x.indexOf("chm")!=-1)){ alert("You will be prompted to download a file\n\nClick Open - Do NOT click Save"); } var whnd = "page" + id; //+ GUID + endguid; var URL = '_manualusage.asp?flag='+flag+'&manual=' + x + '&user=' + y + z + '&manualid=' + id; if(flag!=""){ whnd = window.open(URL,whnd, "toolbar=0,scrollbars=1,location=0,statusbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=1,width=560,height=600"); }else{ whnd = window.open(URL,"Loader", "toolbar=0,scrollbars=1,location=0,statusbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=1,width=560,height=600"); } } function emailit(id, url,name,type,filesize,model,email,custname,cs3event,user){ var namestring = name; var re = new RegExp('&','gi'); namestring = namestring.replace(re,'and'); name = namestring; var xurl = "/srvs/common/email.asp?id="+id+"&emailurl="+url+"&title=" + name + "&type="+type+"&model=" + model + "&filesize=" + filesize + "&email=" + email + "&custname=" + custname + "&convid=" +cs3event + "&user=" + user; popUp(xurl,id); } function NarrowSearch(what, value, cat){ switch(what){ case "Category": parent.document.SearchForm.RefCat.value=value; parent.document.SearchForm.NarrowRef.value="Good"; parent.document.SearchForm.submit() break; case "Model": if("Home Receiver"!=""){ parent.document.SearchForm.RefCat.value="Home Receiver"; } parent.document.SearchForm.criteria.value=value; parent.document.SearchForm.searchscope.value="model"; parent.document.SearchForm.NarrowRef.value="Good"; parent.document.SearchForm.submit() break; case "ONLY": parent.document.SearchForm.criteria.value=value; parent.document.SearchForm.searchscope.value="model"; parent.document.SearchForm.RefCat.value=cat; parent.document.SearchForm.NarrowRef.value="Only"; parent.document.SearchForm.submit() break; case "ALL": parent.document.SearchForm.criteria.value=value; parent.document.SearchForm.RefCat.value=cat; parent.document.SearchForm.NarrowRef.value="ALL"; parent.document.SearchForm.submit() break; } } </script> </head> <body> <div id="results"> <div style="height: 400px;border-bottom:1px solid black;" class="modelblock"> <div style="margin-left:20px; margin-right:15px; margin-top:10px; font-size:10pt"> <span style="float:Right;margin-top:10px;text-align:right"> <table border=0 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0><tr><td> <div style="background:silver;color:black;font-size:10px;padding:2px;border:1px solid gray;cursor:pointer" onclick="javascript:NarrowSearch('ALL','stra','Home Receiver')">Display All Models</div> </td><td> </td><td><div style="width:40px;background:silver;color:black;font-size:10px;padding:2px;border:1px solid gray;cursor:pointer;text-align:center" onclick="javascript:history.go(-1)">Back</div></td></tr></table></span><b>Your search of "<font color=green>stra</font>" matches 66 Models in the Home Receiver category.</b><br><br>Please select the specific model to continue:<table border=0 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=2><tr><td><a class="modellink" onMouseOver="this.className='modellinkhover'" onMouseOut="this.className='modellink'" onclick="javascript:NarrowSearch('ONLY','STRAV1000','Home Receiver')"><b>STRA</b>V1000</a></td><td width=15px></td><td><a class="modellink" onMouseOver="this.className='modellinkhover'" onMouseOut="this.className='modellink'" onclick="javascript:NarrowSearch('ONLY','STRAV1010','Home Receiver')"><b>STRA</b>V1010</a></td><td width=15px></td></tr></table</div></div></div> <iframe name="Loader" id="Loader" src="blank.htm" style="display:none;height:150px;width:100%;border:1px solid silver"></iframe> <a onclick="document.getElementById('Loader').style.display='';">*</a> <script language="javascript"> //alert(parent.IQ.location.href); </script> </body> </html> |
