JavaScript - How Often Does An External Script Reload?
If multiple pages reference the same external JS sheet, does the sheet reload every time you go to a new page or does it stay in memory?
Similar TutorialsHi I have created a very very simple javascript that displays random text quotes. It is in Greek but here it is anyway: http://gerogriniaris.blogspot.com It is in blogger and shows up as a gadget. My problem is that i need to make it reload by a button and at the same time go to the top of this gadget (using an anchor). The reason I want to do this is that I have been sharing this with other bloggers, but if they don't put it on top of their page, as soon as they press the button that reloads the page, they are in the top of the page and they would have to scroll down to find the quote. I have tried to use window.location.reload with window.location.hash. It works in Firefox, but not in IE. I have been trying something like that: Code: <input type="button" value="Click to refresh" style="width: 130px" onclick="window.location.hash='#something';window.location.reload()" /> As i said, this works with Firefox, but not with IE9 Also, I can't define urls beforehand because I want other people to be able to use it to their own blog or website. I suppose this is a noob question, but I have been trying to find a solution and couldn't. Please be kind... Any ideas? Hello everyone! Im new here so any help you can give would be great. I am a Designer, and some time AS3 programer. Teaching my self Javascript for a portfolio website. The Goal: I created a code that randomly creates and Populates Divs in a regular grid, then populates them with an image (using css backgroundImage property) or a print CMY(and Green) color. (eventually will include a shadow box and side scroller) The Problem: The creation and population works just fine, the first time around. if I "Refresh" the page (which i thought destroyed all vars and data) the page loads some times, or freezes. Some times it doesn't load at all! so its very unpredictable, obviously i need this to work the same way every time. Im pretty sure its something simple that i missed, a nuance of javascript or something. So if any one who is more experienced can help I would be super grateful!! here is the page on my website: designchangeseverything.com/beta/divpoptest.html here is the code (i included some of my comments so you can see how i was trying to debug): Code: <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> var Tborder = .05 var howmanyIMG = 15 var winHeight = Math.floor(window.innerHeight); var winWidth = Math.floor(window.innerWidth); var BoxHeight = Math.floor((winHeight * (1-Tborder)) / 3); var BoxWidth = BoxHeight; var howmanyx = Math.floor(winWidth / BoxWidth) + 1; var howmanyy = 3; var HowMany = howmanyx * howmanyy; var used = new Array(howmanyIMG); var CMYG = ["00AEEF","EC008C","FFF200","41AD49"] function RNDy(numby){ return Math.floor(Math.random()*numby); } function getUniq(){ /* alert("run getuniq");*/ var n; while ( used[ n = RNDy(howmanyIMG) ] ){} used[ n ] = true; return n; } function ColorRND() { if (RNDy(4) ==1) { return true; }else{ return false; } } function PlacePop (HMx,HMy){ var counter = 0; var countc = 0; for(x=0;x<=HMx;x++){ var countr = 0; for(y=0;y<HMy;y++){ var divy = document.createElement("div"); var divyID = 'box' + counter; divy.setAttribute('id', divyID) divy.style.position="absolute"; divy.style.zIndex = counter + 3; divy.style.visibility = 'visible'; divy.style.borderWidth = '1'; divy.style.borderColor = '#000000'; divy.style.pixelLeft= x * BoxWidth + (2 * countc); divy.style.pixelTop= y * BoxHeight + (winHeight * Tborder) + (2 * countr); divy.style.pixelWidth= BoxWidth; divy.style.pixelHeight= BoxHeight; if (ColorRND()){ /*divy.innerHTML = 'color';*/ divy.style.backgroundColor = "#" + CMYG[RNDy(4)]; }else{ /*divy.innerHTML = 'image';*/ divy.style.backgroundImage = "url(resourses/images/portfolio/" + getUniq() + ".png)"; divy.style.backgroundPosition = "center"; /*RNDy(100) + "% " + RNDy(100) + "%";*/ } document.body.appendChild(divy); counter++; countr++; }countc++; } /* alert("ran" + counter + " times");*/ } /* used = null;*/ </script> THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE! Hey guys. So right now I'm able to execute javascript code on my website without the use of <script> tags. Example: <body onload=alert("cool");></body> What I want to be able to do is insert an external javascript file located at another website using JavaScript code (not script tags). How can this be done? Thanks I'm working on some code to create hover text that follows the mouse. Now, the code works fine when the javascript is included on the page: (internal script) http://cory.wellen.googlepages.com/hovertest2.html However, when I try to move the code out to an external script, it doesn't work. I've tried looking all over to see what the problem is, but 99% of those with external script problems have errors in syntax or location of the source script. Please help! (javascript) http://cory.wellen.googlepages.com/hover.js (external script) http://cory.wellen.googlepages.com/h..._external.html I have two pages one html page and one Javascript page index.html and script.js. I want to call the javascript page 3 times to display 3 images. How would I do this from my html page. script.js Code: <script language="JavaScript"> <!-- /* Random Image Link Script By Website Abstraction (http://www.wsabstract.com) and Java-scripts.net (http://www.java-scripts.net) */ function random_imglink(){ var myimages=new Array() //specify random images below. You can have as many as you wish myimages[1]="http://flashmajic.com/Google/atomica/atomicasmallicon.jpg" myimages[2]="http://flashmajic.com/Google/atomica/atomicasmallicon.jpg" myimages[3]="http://flashmajic.com/Google/atomica/atomicasmallicon.jpg" //specify corresponding links below var imagelinks=new Array() imagelinks[1]="http://www.wsabstract.com" imagelinks[2]="http://www.dynamicdrive.com" imagelinks[3]="http://www.java-scripts.net" var ry=Math.floor(Math.random()*myimages.length) if (ry==0) ry=1 document.write('<a href='+'"'+imagelinks[ry]+'"'+'><img src="'+myimages[ry]+'" border=2 hspace=1></a>') } random_imglink() //--> </script> index.html Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Untitled Document</title> </head> <body> ????? How would I call that script 3 times to display 3 random images? </body> </html> What im trying to do is to dynamically call an external javascript file. The script once called will provide variables for another function. I have tried using this function PHP Code: function loadjscssfile(filename, filetype){ if (filetype=="js"){ //if filename is a external JavaScript file var fileref=document.createElement('script') fileref.setAttribute("type","text/javascript") fileref.setAttribute("src", filename) } else if (filetype=="css"){ //if filename is an external CSS file var fileref=document.createElement("link") fileref.setAttribute("rel", "stylesheet") fileref.setAttribute("type", "text/css") fileref.setAttribute("href", filename) } if (typeof fileref!="undefined") document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(fileref) } loadjscssfile("myscript.js", "js") //dynamically load and add this .js file loadjscssfile("javascript.php", "js") //dynamically load "javascript.php" as a J which works. The problem is that variables can not be passed through from the external script to the parent script. I understand why this is, but i am wondering if there are other ways to load (or refresh) an external script? Hi I'm trying to load a part of a page (that has script in it) into another page using jquery. However, though the html loads in correctly, none of the script is working. I'm using code from http://css-tricks.com/video-screenca...namic-content/ ie. the pages all work without java (static pages) and when java is enabled, instead of going to bio.html you get taken to ..#bio.html. However if I've got any script I would like to be loaded .. ie. lightbox gallery or even a simple jav split and put back together email address hider. Any help greatly appreciated. I'm not very clued up about jquery at the moment unfortunately and though I've been trying to read and learn, alot is going over my head.. Not sure how best it is to show you the page as it's not live yet. Maybe if it helps I can upload a zip of the site. It's a simple 6 page musician site. Though my code is exactly like the css-tricks page, just that I have a lightbox on one page (which loads fine if there's no hash in the address - but when hash is there, it shows thumbnails, and when you click one, it just takes you to the larger .jpg destination page (no lightboxness etc).) Thanks I have the following code: Quote: <form id="registration" action="/cgi-bin/registration.cgi" method="POST" onsubmit="return control()"> <fieldset> <legend>Fill up this module</legend> Private <input id="private" type="radio" name="type" value="private" onclick="return addPrivate()"/><br/> Community/Organization <input id="organization" type="radio" name="type" onclick="alert('Organization')"/><br/> <br/> and the following script: Quote: addPrivate() { alert('Private'); } but alert windows doesn't not appear. Where is the problem? I have the following JavaScript (see below). The script requests an XML file from the server and displays it on the page. The script works fine when the requested XML file is stored on the same server as the script. The problem is when I try requesting an XML file from an external server such as the National Weather Service. I get an error. If I take the XML file from the National Weather Service and save it to my server it works. Why can't I use my script to request XML files stored on external servers? Thanks in advance for any help. Please suggest a solution This is my dilemma and I am not sure if I am handling the right way, so please suggest a new way or provide a valid answer so that I may achieve my goal. Thanks in advance for your help in solving this matter. In short I have a single "A.html" page that uses AJAX to reload in "B.php" into a <DIV id='bDiv'> every second and "C.php" into another <DIV id='cDiv'> with no reloading. The code in B.php generates a random number between 1 and 100. If the number generated is less than 10, I want <DIV id='cDiv'> to refresh its content. I have tried a number of tricks, I could not find anything in jQuery so if there is please point me to the correct function calls. hello im working on my senior design project for my electrical engineering class. and part of the project is to upload an image via php (which ive written and it works great) but when the image is loaded into the same directory as the html file (which is supposed to display the image everytime a new image is uploaded) the image stays the same it doesnt show the new image. but i kno the new image has been uploaded because i can see it my web server. this is the code Code: <html> <head> <title>Human Cam</title> <script type = "text/javascript"> function refresh() { var refreshTime = 5*1000; //5000ms var thisImage = "Lighthouse.jpg"; //the image location var today = new Date(); //the current time //add the time to the end of the image string //to make a unique url: document.images["pic"].src=thisImage+"?"+today; //reload if the images are loaded: if (document.images) { window.onload=refresh; } //IF the time is up reload the image t=setTimeout('refresh()', refreshTime); } </script> </head> <body onload="refresh()"> <center> <h2>human cam</h2> <img src="Lighthouse.jpg" id="pic"> </center> </body> </html> I have a index page on which there are several iframes which point to pages from a tomcat server. Sometimes when the index page loads, most of the iframes display session expired error. When I refresh the page, all iframes load properly. I want to reload the page twice whenever I come to that page initially. I also want to reload that page twice when I come to it from another page. Any ideas are welcome. Hey guys, I have read the past posts and I see that there have been some other people who have had issues with resetting a form. Right now - on this mess in progress - I have a function that runs on body load: Code: function load () { document.forms[0].reset(); } I know it is running because originally it was an alert, but this is not clearing the form. I need to get all checkboxes and fields to clear. I have also tried: Code: function load () { document.getElementById("regForm").reset(); } No dice. Any idea what I am missing? The temp page is he http://www.temp1.hangnailproductions...ISTRATION2.php My script is he http://www.temp1.hangnailproductions...egistration.js Thanks guys, sorry if things are clunky and sloppy, I'm doing my best but still pretty bad. -AJ Hi, i'm not sure this is the right spot for my question ,but i will try. ( sorry if not ) I need to create a script, that sets cookie ,named "something" with a random $value - something(1-500) every time the user refreshes his browser. Something like this : Y.Node.get("#Button1").on("click", function(){ var newValue = "something" + Math.round(Math.random() * Math.PI * 500); Y.Cookie.set("$something", newValue); Y.log("Set cookie '$something' to '" + $something + "'"); But when i refresh the browser the cookie must be with a new Value. I will explain more clearly : I hit Button 1, Activate this script, that sets me the cookie named "something" with a $value for example , something55 I refresh my browser, the same cookie has $value for example something98 Thanks in advance, Regards, Anton P.S. i'm trying to make it work for a few days .so i will be very glad if someone could help me here . Hi all, I'm new to javascript and html so this may be a silly question, and I'm sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong forum section. Anyway, I need some kind of javascript that will work in a framed page. Right now when I try to navigate to another framed page located elsewhere on my website it's pulling it up in that frame, so it's an ever expanding framed webpage. I need it to simply open the new page up in the whole browser, and not in the individual frame.. Any help is appreciate, (There may as well be an html solution but I couldn't find one)... Thanks. I have cpa gateway on a site that when the customer completes a function of the gateway. The external js of the gateway sends a command to the website to reload the site. Is there any way I can have some sort of event listener to know if that command is sent or not? The problem I'm having is its causing a loop in my existing JS. So it keeps looping the page. I would like to be able to set a cookie when the command is sent and then just have the cpa gateway not load. Thanks all! I haven't been on here in awhile so I have been learning a lot on my own! But this one stumps me Eric. Hi... I am having a problem with the resize... I use the script below to adjust the size of the frame. It works nicely for me. The only problem is, the frame initially jumps to the bookmark, and then on the reload, jumps to the top of the page. Any ideas on how to keep the frame at the bookmark in the web page, instead of jumping back up to the top???? Thanks much in advance.... <script> <!-- function resize_iframe(){ if ( window.frames["MainWindow"].document.body.scrollHeight=0 ) { } else { document.getElementById("MainWindow").height=100 document.getElementById('MainWindow').height=window.frames["MainWindow"].document.body.scrollHeight + 20 } } // --> </script> <IFRAME src="main.htm" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" ID=MainWindow NAME=MainWindow HEIGHT=800 WIDTH=1012 onLoad=resize_iframe();></IFRAME> |
