JavaScript - Dynamic Change Of Browser Window Size
Hi,
I'm creating web application that picks out a randomly chosen image from google, and displays it in the browser window every time it is refreshed. What I'm struggling with is that I want the browser window to resize automatically to exactly fit the image displayed. I know how to resize a browser window, but I want it done dynamically. Can anyone help me with this? Similar TutorialsHi, this will probably make a bit more sense it you read my topic in the HTML section (http://www.codingforums.com/showthread.php?t=57093) where I had a problem with two floating divs, in the end the solution was to give both on my floating divs a fixed width. Now, the menu bar div will always be 150 pixels and i wanted the remaing width to be taken up by the main content div. This script here seems to work very wel in firefox but in ie I get scrollbars. This seems to be because firefox returns the actuall width of the viewing 'frame' while IE seems to give the width of the window itself. PHP Code: <script type="text/javascript"> onload = function getBrowserWidth() { if (!document.all) { var width = document.body.offsetWidth; var newWidth = width - 150; document.getElementById('main').style.width = newWidth; } } </script> After a bit of playing with it I found that IE seems to return in offsetWidth about 19 more pixels than the actual size of the viewable 'frame', can anyone confirm this? Now, when the browser window is resized I want the width of the element to be resized as well, which meant I had to add to the body tag <body onresize="getBrowserWidth();"> is there a better way to attach the function to when the window is resized? I am not sure how Opera and Safari return offsetWidth and if they do it like mozilla, or need special values like IE does to make it fit. Thanks for all of your help with any of these 'mini' questions Hello, First I want to say I have no experience with coding, I develop eLearning via Adobe Captivate. We recently implemented a new LMS from PeopleSoft. This new LMS is launching the eLearning in a small browser window probably 500x400 without the ability to resize this. I am wondering first, if it's possible to edit the htm/js file that Captivate produces, and if anyone is aware of code that could then be entered into the htm/js file to resize the browser upon launch? Thanks! I am looking to have a link open a closeable window that is contained within a browser window. If you click on the "sizing charts" link on this website, this is exactly what I am looking to do: http://www.bella.com/mapper.php?pageid=40 The window is contained within the current browser window, it can be dragged around, but not outside the parameters of the browser window. Is there a title for this technique that I can research? Not looking to waste anybodys time, but if I can get steered in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Hi Ive found out how to force another browser window to open at a certain size when a link is clicked. Here's the whole line of code including the layer, the javascript and the image, <div id="Layer6" style="position:absolute; width:10px; height:8px; z-index:6; left: 561px; top: 310px"><a href="javascript:;" onClick="MM_openBrWindow('navigation%20instructions.htm','','width=50,height=50')"><img src="images/info.gif" width="15" height="15" border="0"></a></div> How do I adapt this so I can also specify the x&y co-ordinates of the opened window relative to the window that launched it. thanks alot Masten I have an iframe that is a specific height and width. I want to detect whenever the the iframe is no longer exactly the height i set it to. If a user has CSS turned off for example the iframe will be in default height and width. I want to detect that. This is how you'd normally do it but this only returns the original size (try with 'no style' in Firefox): Code: function getSize() { alert('height is now '+document.getElementById("Iframemain").height) alert('height is now '+document.getElementById("Iframemain").width) } Is it possible? I need to make a pop up window at a certain size containing just a form but i cant find anywhere the code to control window size. Can anyone post a quick example of it? Also it would be handly if the title bar was disabled too =P
I have dealt with window open before and i know how to adjust the size of the window in the parameters assigned but i have never dealt with window.opener before and have had several failed attempts and adjusting the window size here.. any help would be appreciated.. there is some inline css that i can change the background and stuff but i tried using height and width in the css to no avail, so i thought i would ask do i need to assign a new var inside the script ? how do i change the size. ? it needs to be 300x300 thanks Code: <script language="JavaScript"> var host = '<?php echo $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'];?>'; var win = false; if (window.opener) { win=window.opener; } else if (top.document) { win=top.document; } if (!win || win.location.href.toString().indexOf('<?php echo $parent_href;?>')==-1) { window.location.href = '<?php echo $parent_href;?>'; } I have looked up on line and found what I thought should work but dose not seem to open a new widow of a specific size when I click on my image. <script type="text/javascript">function openNewWindow() { window.open("http://www.microsoft.com", "_blank", "height=340px width=240px"); }</script><img src="../../Images/photo_gallery/Models/ashly-model.jpg" alt="Model-Ashly" width="200" height="171" class="boarder" longdesc="../../Images/photo_gallery/Models/ashly-model.jpg" /> The above code is what I thought would work but dose not seem to when I try the page out. What am I doing wrong? Thanks all. Im coding an internet browser and when I put it in full screen the web browser part is staying the same size as it was on small screen. How do I make it so when its on small screen it is the size of the window but when its on big screen its the size of the whole screen? Does anyone know the default size of a popup window when using window.open()? Thanks I hope someone can help me with this or point towards a published code. I have a PHP page which displays a list summarising database records. When users click on an icon, another window pops up with further information from the record. They can keep clicking through the list, showing each new record in the SAME popup window. Obviously when the popup first appears, the window must be sized to fit within the user's screen and also to one side so that people can still see the main list. But if they resize the window (maybe because they have a very large screen), I want each new display of the window to retain the user's new size. To summarise, the first time the window opens, its dimensions are set to a default size (based on screen size), but from then on it retains the user-defined size. Thanks in advance. I want to deviate from using css to designate a font size in one place. I have a string with a name. This is stored in a variable called "name." I just re-defined name to include district number. Now, it is name=lastname+', '+district; I am appending this string into the html dom. I want the district portion to appear in a slightly smaller font. How can I do this without having to set up a separate <span>? Or can this be done? Ok my menuBarContainer div wont change width or height... I've tried everything... whats stopping it? http://opentech.durhamcollege.ca/~in...rittains/labs/ i have been trying all sorts of things, but falling short... i'm trying to set up a way to detect a user's browser size and then call a specific background image accordingly... say (for example) that BKGD1.jpg is for users who have browsers that are 1280x1024 and higher; BKGD2.jpg is for users who have browsers that are smaller than 1280x1024... i'm even open to an option that only displays a background image if the browser is (as in the example above) 1280x1024, and just a background color if the browser is smaller than that... i don't know... i am totally lost on this one... any help would be amazing!!! thank you... Hi. Sort of new to Javascript. I am implementing a zoom in feature, but actually tricking the user as a full screen image is simply being stretched. I plan to apply it to several pages, and don't really fancy working out the pixels for each. I believe that if you simply put width: 150% height 150% it will change the image size relative to the browser. I don't want that, I want it relative to the original image size. Could I do sort of height*1.5 or something? How would I write that if so? Thanks! Code: <script> $('#in').click(function() { $('#drag img').animate({ width: '150%', height: '150%', }, 5000, function() { // Animation complete. }); }); </script> Dear All, I need to get JavaScript to change the font size used for a website if Opera is detected. I have been trying this but it hasn't worked: Code: function changeFooter(){ if (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Opera") >= 0) { // if I alert this line the output is 0 document.getElementById("footer").style.fontSize = '0.5em'; }; }; in the head of the html document (as well as the link to the external JavaScript file): Code: <script type="text/javascript"> changeFooter(); </script> I tried using window.onload = changeFooter(); but still no luck. I used the same principle in a different function to change another css property via getElementById and it works beautifully so I am a bit puzzled. I then realised that I actually need to change the value of the font size in the body tag from 100% to 90% when Opera is detected so I changed the script to this: Code: function changeFooter(){ if (navigator.appName == 'Opera') { document.write('<link href="styleOpera.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />'); } else { document.write('<link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />'); }; }; But it's still not working. I was hoping that I could benefit from your collective wisdom as I am not sure where I am going wrong with this and several hours spent searching the web for answers have been fruitless so far... My knowledge of JavaScript is not very extensive, I haven't studied it in great depth so perhaps I am making some very silly mistakes here. My pseudo code for this exercise is something like this: Code: detect browser if browser = Opera { change font-size for body to 90% } else { do nothing } alternatively: detect browser if browser = Opera { link to stylesheet1 } else { link to stylesheet2 } Thanks in advance for your help, much appreciated. Kind regards, Cristina Alciati I'm still struggling for a solution here. I have a background image that auto-resizes based on browser window / screen resolution. I want my top header menu, which requires links, to act in the same way and be in roughly the same position/size based on browser window. Is this possible? In the sample below, the image is just part of the background image to give you an idea of the look I am trying to duplicate. Is there a Javascript out there that will help me or will I be stuck having to rework my design? http://www.uberbotjones.com/sanny/test.html This site is really driving me crazy. hey guys im just building a portfolio website for my self and i wanted to create something that could work well across a number of devices and screen sizes. i recently came across this website http://tillwiedeck.com/ and noticed that the menu positions itself according to the size of the browser window. This works really well when viewing it on devices such as ipads and iphones. My question is that does anybody know if there is any way i could make an object always position itself at say 25% of the windows width and another object always position itself at 75% of the windows width. really hope i'm making myself clear. thanks heaps Hello, I was wondering if there is a way to prevent the browser window from scrolling when you are scrolling inside an overflow auto div and reach the end of the div's scroll? Right now I have a few people complaining about a div that loads scrolling info on the screen and when they scroll down using the mouse wheel and get to the bottom of the div then the rolling of the mouse wheel starts scrolling the browser window. It would be nice if the browser could see that your cursor is over the div and even though it reaches the end, not scroll the window unless you move the cursor outside of the div that you are currently scrolling. Any ideas or is this just something we have to deal with? Thanks |
