JavaScript - Getelementstagname From Other Html Page
hi,
i'm new to this forum and want to say googdbye to everyone, it's long time i read you, now i have to ask a question: i'm creating a javascript program to obtain datas from an external webpage. I read the page with: Code: <body> <input type='button' value='Load' onclick="doLoad()" /> <script type='text/javascript'> /* THIS IS THE FILE TO READ */ var fileToRead="test.html"; /* THIS FUNCTION IS TO READ THE HTML FILE */ function IO(U) {//LA MOD String Version. A tiny ajax library. by, DanDavis var X = !window.XMLHttpRequest ? new ActiveXObject('Microsoft.XMLHTTP') : new XMLHttpRequest(); X.open('GET', U, false ); X.setRequestHeader('Content-Type', 'text/html') X.send(''); return X.responseText;} function doLoad(){ /* HERE IS THE CALL TO READ THE FILE */ var orari=(IO(fileToRead)); /* HERE IS THE PROBLEM */ var arrTR=orari.getElementsByTagName('tr'); /* END OF PROBLEM */ var arrTD_3nd_line=arrTR[1].getElementsByTagName('td'); var arr_p_1c_3l=arrTD_3nd_line[0].getElementsByTagName('p'); alert(arr_p_1c_3l[0].nodeValue); } </script> </body> line 21 is the problem, because Code: var arrTR=document.getElementsByTagName('tr'); tries to read from the html page where is the jscript, i thought putting var arrTR=orari.getElementsByTagName('tr'); where "orari" is the var in which it's the external webpage, so i'll get an array of every tr of the external webpage, BUT if i put document.blabla i get error beacuse arrTR is null and if i put orari.blabla i get error becaues getelementsbytagname is not a function No, i can't put the js in the webpage. Is there a solution? if not how to parse charbychar the var containing the external document? thanks a lot Similar TutorialsHi there, Im a total newbie and learning html and javascript as I go along, so any help you can give is greatly appreciated! It is possible to perform a find in page search that looks at a specific link, opens the page in a new window and finds the text within that document?? Basically I regularly use an html page in work that has a list of people and their telephone numbers. I want to be able to type in a searchbox on my main page and it open the target page and find the name I am looking for? Is this possible or can you only Find In Page on the same page or another frame? Tearing my hair out........ Thanks Glen I'm new to all this, I'm having some trouble integrating a few bits of text from a XML feed into HTML. The feed is: http://cloud.tfl.gov.uk/TrackerNet/LineStatus Any ideas why it isn't working? Many thanks . Code: <html> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {// code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); } else {// code for IE6, IE5 xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } xmlhttp.open("GET","http://cloud.tfl.gov.uk/TrackerNet/LineStatus/",false); xmlhttp.send(); xmlDoc=xmlhttp.responseXML; document.write("<table border='1'>"); { document.write("<tr><td>"); document.write(xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("Line").item(0).getAttribute("Name"); document.write("</td><td>"); document.write(xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("LineStatus").item(0).getAttribute("StatusDetails"); document.write("</td></tr>"); document.write(xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("Status").item(0).getAttribute("Description"); document.write("</td></tr>"); } document.write("</table>"); </script> </body> </html> I have a very simple problem, but I can't find the answer. How do I run an html page?? <script type="text/javascript" > var curdate=new Date(); if (curdate.getMonth()+1 ==1){ document.write("<img src='Images/Menu Pictures/05/homepage.gif'>"); the above line works document.write("<href src='menu05.htm'>"); The above line doesn't work } else if (curdate.getMonth()+1==2){ Hello! I have been designing a schedule website which will be displayed on several computers throughout the building, I would like to be able to edit the JS during the day but I do not want to be going all through the building refreshing every computer to make sure it has the latest JS version. I also do not want use the meta HTML tag to refresh because that is too noticeable with the images reloading. Basically I would like to only refresh the JS file. I found this link, but it has a button which defeats the purpose. Any way of doing this without the button? FYI, I have the javascript setTimeout("driver()",1000); already so that the clock stays up to date. Not sure if that will make things easier or more complicated... I can't seem to extract XML from an somepage.xml document and display it on a regular webpage. I have no way of reading its contents. I read up on some microsoft way of doing it, but not sure that is gonna fly (need it for most browsers), so can this be done easily with json/ajax? I have an xml file in normal format: www.somedomain.com/somepath/somexml.xml <products> <items> <item>blah</item> <item>blah2</item> <item>blah3</item> <item>blah4</item> <item>blah5</item> </items> </products> So, how do I get that data to manipulate and display in my html? I don't even know where to begin with json/ajx etc.. and how to call the xml file etc.. Hello All, I seem to be stuck on a page for my site: The idea was to have a page with a google map and a java-powered custom twitter feed on the page. However, when I got the map embedded, it seems to interfere with the spry navigation menu, and the twitter feed is not working either. I've tried combining commands and tying each script to an event, but I just don't understand enough to get them all to work. I'm a comic artist by trade, so I'm a little new to coding. Any help would be greatly appreciated! you can find the page here./ Thanks in advance for any help! Hi All, I have an issue that is driving me batty. I have two js files called in my <head> section but only the first one listed runs. I know this is supposed to work but it doesn't. What am I missing? I've searched here on the forum and on Google with no real results. I have read the info on javascriptkit but do not believe it applies. One script contains functions that run "onChange" of certain fields while the other runs "onSubmit" of the form. The "onChange" events from the first script run fine. The second one does not run at all. I get no errors. I can find no var conflicts. I even added an alert at the top of the main function in the second script to verify it was loading and the alert never pops up. Head Script Tags: (The first script called works fine.) Code: <script type = "text/javascript" src = "SQFImageSwap.js"></script> <script type = "text/javascript" src = "FormValidation.js"></script> Form Tag Call: (to second script) Code: <form id="Ostandard" name="standard" action="/cgi-bin/standardquoterequest.pl" method="POST" enctype="application/x-www-form-urlencodedl" onSubmit="return validFormSubmit(this)"> Thank You! -Jim I have to call the script below from my html page. How would I do that? Do I need to modify the script at all? Put in a function that returns the random title to the html page? Hello, I am in situation where I need a code to redirect a HTML page to new location (Static HTML/Dynamic Web page) however the challenge is that I can not use usual JavaScript Redirect code due to restriction that we can't execute any code/script under body tag. I found that this can be done using an external JS file however I am not able to achieve this. I need the code to be generic so we can apply the same JS file to any page. However, I want the new window to open over the previous one versus opening a second new window. Can someone help me out in this? Hi EveryBody, I want to add a preview of html page feature in my project. I had created registration form and I need when user click submit button, user should get a preview of registration form after that further operation will b performed. Guys just tell me how can i achieved this. Any clue or sample code so i can learn it and implement in my project. Hello, I have an html script and a .php script. The .php requests a random word from a table of words in a mysql database. I wrote a html form to display the requested word in a text box. Here is my html file: Code: <html> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> function myfunction() { var xmlhttp; if(window.XMLHttpRequest) { xmlhttp= newHttpRequest(); } else { xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function() { if(xmlhttp.readyState==4) { document.myLingo.word.value=xmlhttp.responseText; } } xmlhttp.open("GET", "get_Word.php",true); xmlhttp.send(null); } </script> <form name="myLingo"> <input type="button" name="button" value="New Word" onClick="myFunction();" /> <input type="text" name="word" /> </form> </body> </html> and here is my .php script: Code: <?php $con=mysql_connect('localhost', 'xxxx', 'xxxx'); if (!$con) { die('Could not connect: '.mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("my_lingo", $con); $sql=mysql_query("SELECT `word` FROM `words` ORDER BY RAND()") or trigger_error('Error: ' .mysql_error()); $word=mysql_fetch_array($sql); echo $word[0]; mysql_close($con); ?> When I run this in Internet Explorer; I get a error that is asking for an object on line 32 which is the line that has my button in the javascript. When i run it in firefox, I don't receive an error, but the page still does nothing. Any suggestions? The main function of the page is that, when I click the button, it's supposed to return me a random word from the .php script Thanks, jcjst21 hi I am making a multimedia Cd presentation in Html and I was wondering if there is any way for the index.html to autorun not in a browser, but only in window without any buttons - like a popup widow ? I really need help, i am looking for solution for 3 days now, and I need this to be done tomorrow.. thanx I have an html page "PageA" which contains a "link" to another html page "PageB". The link is handled as a form submit because PageA sends some variables which it wants "processed". However, PageB is NOT a CGI script but simply another html page which happens to contain a form. This form handles the desired processing. I would appreciate some help getting some javascript in place, in PageA, in order to automatically fill in a form field in PageB with a variable supplied by PageA. The complications here a 1) PageB is not a CGI script and so sending variables via a query string does not work. (The variables never get read by PageB.) 2) PageB is maintained by another organisation so I cannot modify it. (Actually I could, as I have a local copy, but I would have to redo after every new release and so this is not acceptable.) It therefore needs to be treated as an independent page. 3) The variable is quite a lengthy one, it is extracted from a database and changes depending on how PageA was called, so I want to do this for repeated instances and cutting and pasting to a new page on each occasion is not attractive. 4) I would like to open PageB in a separate window or tab as I want to be able to reference both pages at once. (This is not essential to the key problem but may influence the solution. A solution which depended on the window being the same I would not regard as satisfactory.) The relationship between the documents is probably most accurately described as "PageB is a section of PageA". It is providing some additional information on aspects of what is in PageA. The output from submission of PageB can be quite lengthy. The actual form field in PageB I want to fill in is a textarea element and I know its name (call it name1) and also the name of the form (call it form1). But I don't think the field type should be important. I simply want to update its value (presumably after a page load?). Is this possible without editing PageB? I would appreciate some guidance if not a proven solution. Perhaps I have overlooked something but I can't find a working solution to this particular problem and my experiments to date don't work. Thanks Hi, I am trying to pass a video id value from one javascript page to another, extract the video id, append it to a utube url and then pass it to a html page for immediate display. I have managed to extract the video id value and append it to the url but cannot get it into the html section of the code. My code is posted below <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function getParams() { var idx = document.URL.indexOf('?'); var urlId; var params = new Array(); if (idx != -1) { var url = document.URL.substring(idx+1, document.URL.length).split('&'); for (var i=0; i<url.length; i++) { videoVal = url[i].split('='); urlId = "http://www.youtube.com/v/" + videoVal[1]; } } document.getrElementById('UrlId').value=urlId; } params = getParams(); </script> </head> <body> <object width="425" height="344"> <param name="UrlId" value=urlId; </param><embed src=urlId type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"> </embed> </object> </p> </body> </html> I need to get it to appear as a complete url in the following lines in the html code <param name="UrlId" value=urlId; <embed src=urlId type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed> Can someone please help with this. Thanks for any info! Here's the page, I want the comment underneath all three div's. I have about 100 pages of HTML, and I want to only have to put in the specific data once. My Javascript is rusty and I am on a short fuse, unfortunately, so some help would be appreciated. All pages have one picture with URL path to the image, an initial width, and a title string. I would like to define these once in a Javascript etc, and have a script plug those values into the page Title, the width of the pic <img> tag, the URL of the src of the pic, and a text title in the body (above the pic) of the page. -- I think I need <body onload="mySetup('myTitle string', picWidth, '<picURL>')> then in the script I would need: window.title = myTitle; bodyText.innerHTML = myTitle; myPic.width = picWidth; myPic.src = picURL; myPic.alt = myTitle; then <img id="myPic" onclick="myClickHandler( )"> --------------- But messing about with this has not gotten me a working page. Would some kind person help out? Thanks! I want to use javasript to create a new html page named from a text field in a form. Then I want to use javasript to copy all of the form fields to the new html page that was created using javascripting. I am creating a user are using a Javascript password login.
