JavaScript - Javascript Problem: Keeps Reloading For No Apparent Reason
I started on the following page (part of an asp.net solution), but the damned thing keeps reloading. Anyone able to spot the problem?

I am not all that great at coding, but would like to put together a windows sidebar gadget that keeps track and logs specific activities. Some daily, some weekly, some monthly, ect. I need to find a way to refresh a small imported java script every time a button is pressed without refreshing the entire form. Would also like to have it refresh automatically every hour if possible. The line of code to reload is <script src="http://www.dgdevelco.com/quotes/quotestxt.js"></script>. Here is the entire code: <html> <head> <title>Form</title> <style> body { margin: 0; width: 130px; height: 400px; background-image: url(bg.jpg); } </style> <script type="text/javascript"> /*Enable Gadget Setting Functionality.*/ System.Gadget.settingsUI="settings.html"; </script> </head> <g:background style="position:absolute;top:0;left:0;z-index:-999;no=repeat;" /> <form name="Form"> <table width="128" style="position: absolute; left: 1px; top: 1px;"> <tr> <td><input type="checkbox" name="item" value="01"></td> <td style="font-family: 'Arial Narrow'; font-size: 10px;">Item 1</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="checkbox" name="item" value="02"></td> <td style="font-family: 'Arial Narrow'; font-size: 10px;">Item 2</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="checkbox" name="item" value="03"></td> <td style="font-family: 'Arial Narrow'; font-size: 10px;">Item 3</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="checkbox" name="item" value="04"></td> <td style="font-family: 'Arial Narrow'; font-size: 10px;">Item 4</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="checkbox" name="item" value="05"></td> <td style="font-family: 'Arial Narrow'; font-size: 10px;">Item 5</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="checkbox" name="item" value="06"></td> <td style="font-family: 'Arial Narrow'; font-size: 10px;">Item 6</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="checkbox" name="item" value="07"></td> <td style="font-family: 'Arial Narrow'; font-size: 10px;">Item 7</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="checkbox" name="item" value="08"></td> <td style="font-family: 'Arial Narrow'; font-size: 10px;">Item 8</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="checkbox" name="item" value="09"></td> <td style="font-family: 'Arial Narrow'; font-size: 10px;">Item 9</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="checkbox" name="item" value="10"></td> <td style="font-family: 'Arial Narrow'; font-size: 10px;">Item 10</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2"> <input type="submit" value="Submit" style="font-family: 'Arial Narrow'; font-size: 10px; float: left;"> <input type="reset" value="Reset" style="font-family: 'Arial Narrow'; font-size: 10px; float: right;"> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" align="right"> <input type="button" name="Report" value="Report" style="font-family: 'Arial Narrow'; font-size: 10px;"> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2"> <font style="font-family: 'Arial Narrow'; font-size: 10px; text-align: center;"> <script src="http://www.dgdevelco.com/quotes/quotestxt.js"></script> </font </td> </tr> </table> </body> </html> I have tried iframe and while it looks nice for text wrapping, it will still reload the entire gadget. Any suggestions (preferably simple so my little mind and wrap around it) would be great! Thanks for looking. :) Hi, I have a script that writes to an IFRAME, it writes dynamically and then needs to reload it server side. Anybody knows how to do it? I'm joining the code of my attempt but it appears to be reloading the IFRAME on the client side therefore causing an activeX error since I am running this in FireFox: PHP Code: var frTraductionID = document.getElementById("frTraduction"); frTraductionID = (frTraductionID.contentWindow) ? frTraductionID.contentWindow : (frTraductionID.contentDocument.document) ? frTraductionID.contentDocument.document : frTraductionID.contentDocument; var x=frTraductionID.document.getElementById("hCount").value; var ifrm = document.getElementById("ifUPDATE"); ifrm = (ifrm.contentWindow) ? ifrm.contentWindow : (ifrm.contentDocument.document) ? ifrm.contentDocument.document : ifrm.contentDocument; ifrm.document.open(); ifrm.document.write('<scr' + 'ipt language=javascript type="text/javascript" runat=server>'); ifrm.document.write('var fso = new Active' + 'XObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject"); '); ifrm.document.write('var f = fso.OpenTextFile("' + sFileName + '", 2, true); '); for (var i=0;i<x;i+=1) { var sString=""; sString +="f.WriteLine('"; sString +=frTraductionID.document.getElementById("h"+i).value; sString +='="'; sDetail=frTraductionID.document.getElementById("d"+i).value.replace('"', ' '); sDetail=sDetail.replace("'", "`"); sString +=sDetail; sString +='"'; sString +="')"; sString +="; "; alert("i = " + i + " str = " + sString); ifrm.document.write(sString); } ifrm.document.write("f.Close();"); ifrm.document.write("</Scr" + "ipt>"); ifrm.document.close(); document.getElementById('ifUPDATE').contentWindow.location.reload(true); any help would be appreciated. i am new to JS and need help in solving my code that's not reloading the page to download subcat list from db when you select the cat list? Any help is appreciable:
hi, everyone, I'm struggling to figure out how to make my image automatically reload. particularly when the image is randomly selected from a folder. The timing seem to work as the first image disappear after 5 seconds as dictated in the first JavaScript but it simply stays black. Why is the next images not being loaded? http://www.lost-ear-studio.com I'm new with JavaScript big time and tonight is the first time I've really dived into it. Thank you for any advice. It is not written here to function alone, but it is solely to illustrate my question, Why can't a variable be read from within a function when it has been set as the text of a url address, in this case www.google.com)? When I click on the browser HREF that calls the OnClick event, the function SwitchFN, I receive the following 2 alerts: "Ones" (variable is output as expected) "undefined" (the second variable is no longer defined within the function, however using the command alert(numtwo) in the variable definition section of my code will work as expected and the alert will be "www.google.com" Why can't the function see the variable when it is a URL? Code: I have set several default variables up in the beginning of my script: var numone = "Ones" var numtwo = "www.google.com" /// more variables set /// more functions function switchfn(nfn,nrm) { document.cookie = "mvrfile=" + numone alert(numone) alert(numtwo) } document.write('<TR><TD BGCOLOR=# ALIGN=LEFT VALIGN=top WIDTH=60 COLSPAN=2><A HREF="#" onClick="switchfn(\'' + myview + '\',\'' + mytxt + '\')">' + mytxt + '</A></TD></TR>') ; I recommend using the Chrome browser for this because I like its integration of the console and debugger, et. al., best. But any modern browser will do. Are you getting errors right off the bat from the error console? Are you getting errors when you try to select a fence, etc.? Tell us *WHAT* is going wrong. Don't make us re-construct your page so we can use our error console. And if you still can't figure it out, can you post the page LIVE someplace? Give us a URL to look at? Hi, I'm making a Google Map that reads info from a database and pulls Twitter usernames from it to plot points on a map. In the infowindow of these points I have some code that displays the Twitter users latest tweet. There's alot of code for this map so i'll only show you the part i'm working on: Code: function readData() { var request = GXmlHttp.create(); request.open("GET", "phpsqlinfo_result.php", true); request.onreadystatechange = function() { if (request.readyState == 4) { var xmlDoc = GXml.parse(request.responseText); // obtain the array of markers and loop through it i=[0]; markers=[0]; map.getInfoWindow().hide(); gmarkers = []; map.clearOverlays(); side_bar_html = ""; var markers = xmlDoc.documentElement.getElementsByTagName("marker"); for (var i = 0; i < markers.length; i++) { // obtain the attribues of each marker var lat = parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lat")); var lng = parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lng")); var point = new GLatLng(lat,lng); var label = markers[i].getAttribute("name"); var address = markers[i].getAttribute("address"); var type = markers[i].getAttribute("type"); var html = '<' + 'script src="http://twitter.com/javascripts/blogger.js"><' + '/script><' + 'script type="text/javascript" src="http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/' + label + '.json?callback=twitterCallback2&count=1"><' + '/script><br /><div id="twitter_update_list" style="list-style:none"></div>'; // create the marker var marker = createMarker(point,label,html); map.addOverlay(marker); } // put the assembled side_bar_html contents into the side_bar div document.getElementById("side_bar").innerHTML = side_bar_html; } } request.send(null); } var html is where it's all happening. I'm using the Twitter script from http://limetouch.com/article/valid-x...vascript-code/ and I have it laid out with all them ' + ' to break it up so it doesn't end the actual javascript used to create the map. I'm new to Javascript so I don't know too much. I know that this method is a really backwards way of doing it, but it works for Firefox. I'm able to retrieve the users latest tweet when I click on their map marker. What I want to know is why it doesn't work in any other browser? I've tried IE7+8, Google Chrome, Opera, and Safari and no tweet displays. Sub-question: While a tweet does display in Firefox, the infowindow doesn't resize with the dynamic content. Any way to fix that? I am trying to fix some datetime strings so I can convert form values into date objects so I can compare the dates in my validation process. the date time strings look like - 7/21/2011 8:00am for some reason the am is not being replaced by " am" . here's the function Code: function ampm(str){ str.replace(/am/gi," am") str.replace(/pm/gi," pm") return str } for example the result of ampm("8:00am") is 8:00am and not 8:00 am .. it seems so simple. Hi there, i have this simple script that replaces the scrollbar of an iframe called iFrame1 with 2 up and down arrow images, but it only works in IE, i've tried it in Chrome and Firefox... here is the code Code: <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> function bsh_iFrame1(step,time){hs_iFrame1=setInterval("sh_iFrame1("+step+")",time)} function esh_iFrame1(){clearInterval(hs_iFrame1)} function sh_iFrame1(step) { scrollx=iFrame1.document.body.scrollLeft scrolly=iFrame1.document.body.scrollTop scrolly=scrolly+step iFrame1.window.scroll(scrollx,scrolly) } </script> Code: </td><td align="center" valign="middle" width="31"><img src="up.png" alt="up" border=0 vspace="5" hspace="3" onMouseDown="esh_iFrame1();bsh_iFrame1(-3,2)" onMouseUp="esh_iFrame1();bsh_iFrame1(-1,20)" onMouseOver="bsh_iFrame1(-1,20)" onMouseOut="esh_iFrame1()"><br> <img src="down.png" alt="down" border=0 vspace="5" hspace="3" onMouseDown="esh_iFrame1();bsh_iFrame1(3,2)" onMouseUp="esh_iFrame1();bsh_iFrame1(1,20)" onMouseOver="bsh_iFrame1(1,20)" onMouseOut="esh_iFrame1()"> thanks in advance for any answers... I have the following function: Code: function sonKare(sayac, oteki) { var vertical, horizontal = hangiYataySira(sayac, oteki), j, k, l, m, united, tekRakam, actualV = [], actualH = [], numaralar = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9], olmayanlar = []; if(ilkSefer === true) { vertical = hangiDikeySira(rakamlar.length); ilkSefer = false; } else { vertical = hangiDikeySira(rakamlar.length - 1); } for(j = 0; j <= vertical.length - 1; j ++ ) { if(rakamlar[vertical[j]] !== undefined) actualV.push(rakamlar[vertical[j]]); } for(k = 0; k <= horizontal.length - 1; k ++ ) { if(rakamlar[horizontal[k]] !== undefined) actualH.push(rakamlar[horizontal[k]]); } united = actualV.concat(actualH); //---- Olmayan rakamları bulan kısım ------------ outer: for(l = 0; l <= numaralar.length - 1; l++) { for(m = 0; m <= united.length - 1; m++) { if(numaralar[l] === united[m]) continue outer; if(m === united.length - 1 && numaralar[l] !== united[m]) olmayanlar.push(numaralar[l]); } } //---------------------------------------------- if(olmayanlar.length > 1 || olmayanlar.length === 0) { rakamlar = []; document.form1.buton.click(); // THIS LINE DOES NOT WORK SECOND TIME } else { $("_" + oteki + "_" + sayac).value = olmayanlar[0]; rakamlar.push(olmayanlar[0]); sayac++; if(sayac === 10) return; else sonKare(sayac, oteki); //CALLS ITSELF } } This is a recursive function. As stated above there is a line which does not work for the second time. What I mean is, it works perfect for the first time and after function calls itself, it doesn't work. Javascript does execute the line above it but just disregards that document.form1.buton.click(); line. I use Firebug for debugging and I checked it many times, when that expression needs to be executed for the second time, JavaScript just ignores it and immediately goes at the end of the function... I just can't figure out why JS does such a thing? p.s: Don't bother about weird variable names, they are not in English but in Turkish which is my native language hi all. im having problems with this ajax script i wrote: Code: function admin_adduser() { xmlHttp=GetXmlHttpObject() if (xmlHttp==null) { alert ("Browser does not support HTTP Request"); return; } user = document.getElementById('user_user').value; user = user.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g, '');// trim whitespace //check if name is unique unique = 'false'; var params = "?user=" + escape(user); var url="_check_username.php"; url=url+params; ajaxedInner = ""; xmlHttp.open("GET",url,true); xmlHttp.setRequestHeader("If-Modified-Since", "Fri, 31 Dec 1999 23:59:59 GMT"); xmlHttp.onreadystatechange=stateChanged; xmlHttp.send(null); xmlHttp.onreadystatechange = function() { if (xmlHttp.readyState == 4) { if (xmlHttp.status == 200) { unique = xmlHttp.responseText.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g, ''); //trims all whitespace! //alert(unique); } } } if(unique == 'true') { //alert("working: " + unique); password = document.getElementById('user_password').value; var params = "?user_user=" + escape(user) + "&user_password=" + escape(password); var url="_admin_add_user.php"; url=url+params; ajaxedInner = "users"; xmlHttp.open("GET",url,true); xmlHttp.setRequestHeader("If-Modified-Since", "Fri, 31 Dec 1999 23:59:59 GMT"); xmlHttp.onreadystatechange=stateChanged; xmlHttp.send(null); document.getElementById('user_password').value = ""; document.getElementById('user_user').value = ""; } else { alert('Please select a unique name for the new staff member\nadd a middle initial maybe?'); } } if i alert(unique) it tells me 'true' (string) but still doesnt go into the create part of the script, i just get the alert('Please select a unique name for the new staff member\nadd a middle initial maybe?'); any ideas? i know im probably missing something basic but its really annoying lol btw - the php for the _check_username.php is simple: PHP Code: <?php if(!isset($_SESSION)) {session_start();} if($_SESSION['authorised'] != true) { exit; } include 'config.php'; include 'opendb.php'; $user = $_REQUEST['user']; $query = "SELECT user FROM user WHERE user='$user'"; echo $query; $result = mysql_query($query) or die('false'); $row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC); if($row) { echo 'false'; } else { echo 'true'; } mysql_free_result($result); ?> Hi all. Vincenty, Survey Review, 23, No 176, p 88-93,1975. // Convert to radians. var lat1 = from.latRadians(); var lon1 = from.lngRadians(); var lat2 = to.latRadians(); var lon2 = to.lngRadians(); // Compute the angle. var angle = - Math.atan2( Math.sin( lon1 - lon2 ) * Math.cos( lat2 ), Math.cos( lat1 ) * Math.sin( lat2 ) - Math.sin( lat1 ) * Math.cos( lat2 ) * Math.cos( lon1 - lon2 ) ); if ( angle < 0.0 ) angle += Math.PI * 2.0; if (angle == 0) {crash;} return angle; } function plotcar() { var cosa = Math.cos(angle); var sina = Math.sin(angle); canvas.clearRect(0,0,32,32); canvas.save(); canvas.rotate(angle); canvas.translate(16*sina+16*cosa,16*cosa-16*sina); canvas.drawImage(img,-16,-16); canvas.restore(); } //=============== animation functions ====================== function animate(d) { if (d>eol) { return; } var p = poly.GetPointAtDistance(d); if (k++>=180/step) { map.panTo(p); k=0; } map.panTo(p); marker.setPoint(p); if (supportsCanvas) { if (poly.GetIndexAtDistance(d)>lastVertex) { lastVertex = poly.GetIndexAtDistance(d); if (lastVertex == poly.getVertexCount()) { lastVertex -= 1; } while (poly.getVertex(lastVertex-2).equals(poly.getVertex(lastVertex-1))) { lastVertex-=1; } angle = bearing(poly.getVertex(lastVertex-2),poly.getVertex(lastVertex-1) ); plotcar(); } } setTimeout("animate("+(d+step)+")", tick); } function startAnimation() { eol=poly.Distance(); map.setCenter(poly.getVertex(0),16); map.addOverlay(new GMarker(poly.getVertex(0),G_START_ICON)); map.addOverlay(new GMarker(poly.getVertex(poly.getVertexCount()-1),G_END_ICON)); if (supportsCanvas) { marker = new ELabel(poly.getVertex(0), '<canvas id="carcanvas" width="32" height="32"><\/canvas>',null,new GSize(-16,16)); map.addOverlay(marker); canvas = document.getElementById("carcanvas").getContext('2d'); var p0 = poly.getVertex(0); var p1 = poly.getVertex(1); angle = bearing(p1,p0); plotcar(); } else { marker = new GMarker(poly.getVertex(0),{icon:car}); map.addOverlay(marker); } poly2 = new GPolyline([poly.getVertex(0), poly.getVertex(1), poly.getVertex(2)], 0,0); // map.addOverlay(poly2); setTimeout("animate(0)",2000); // Allow time for the initial map display } It works fine as you can see here but the problem is that if the user clicks the button again without reloading the page, the map moves but the car remains at its last point. From what I can figure out, this means that the startAnimation() function has restarted but the animate(d) function has not restarted. but trying to call the animate(d) function from the button, where the startAnimation() gets called, he Code: <input type="button" onclick="startAnimation();return false;" value="show bus route 1"> results in an error that d is not defined. is there some way of resetting the animate(d) function when the startAnimation() function gets called, so everything goes back to the start? Or is there some other way of "refreshing" everything without reloading the page? thanks in advance. how can refresh my website without interrupting of main content. suppose user reading a post in my website . during that i want to refresh my ads in my website without interrupting of main content. ex: go this link. http://www.novamov.com/video/xl58zuy4sd1a9 in this page site will automatically refreshes the ads every 1 minute without interrupting of main content. how can i do that in same manner. please help me. I have an application I'm working on and here is what I'm trying to do: I want users to work from a main application. Certain things will need to be done but the users wont want to see the main screen go away while doing these certain things. So my idea is to just open a new window with the content they need, they'll make their changes, the new window will close but then I want the main page to reload. What I've done now is at the end of the script that will be run prior to the new window closing is added this (its a php app): Code: echo "<script>window.close();</script>"; echo "<script>window.opener.location.reload(true);</script>"; Sometimes this works in IE and Firefox but never in Chrome. I know I've seen this done before on other sites, but I cant think of what they are. Can anyone tell me a reliable way that works in all browsers? I have a set of tabs that are set with an href that adds a query string to the url such as "?t=1", meaning the first tab is selected. Technically it works just fine but every time I click a tab it reloads the page and I'm not entirely sure how to stop this. I'm using a jquery plugin to handle the query strings. Here's the plugin. Here's the piece of the code that matters: Code: var url = location.search; var tab = $.query.get('t'); init(tab); function init(tab){ $("div.tab").hide(); //hides all the content boxes related to the tabs $("div#tab"+tab).fadeIn("fast"); //Shows the selected tab's content box setInactive(); //Styles unselected tabs setActive(tab); //Styles selected tab } Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hey all, I'm trying to make it so that when a user clicks on a radio button, the image that is related to the radio button is displayed next to it (without reloading the page). At the moment all it shows is the image related to the currently saved option, which I'd like to keep on page load. Is this possible? If so, I'd appriciate any help. Here is my code for the radio buttons. Thanks. Code: <tr valign="top"> <td id="community-legal-services-logo-selection"> <p><label><?php _e('<strong class="table_tags">Display the following Community Legal Services logo:</strong>'); ?></p> <p><label for="cls-mono"> <input class="" id="cls-mono" name="cls_logo" type="radio" value="cls_mono" <?php if($general_options['cls_logo'] === 'cls_mono'){ echo 'checked="checked"'; } ?> /> <?php _e('Mono'); ?></label> </p> <p><label for="cls-color"> <input class="" id="cls-color" name="cls_logo" type="radio" value="cls_color" <?php if($general_options['cls_logo'] === 'cls_color'){ echo 'checked="checked"'; } ?> /> <?php _e('Colour'); ?></label> </p> <p><label for="cls-none"> <input class="" id="cls-none" name="cls_logo" type="radio" value="cls_none" <?php if($general_options['cls_logo'] === 'cls_none'){ echo 'checked="checked"'; } ?> /> <?php _e('None'); ?></label> </p> <p> <label><?php _e('<span class="table_tags">Link to the Community Legal Services website<span>'); ?></label> </p> <p> <input class="large_input_box" id="cls-link" name="cls_link" type="text" value="<?php echo $general_options['cls_link']; ?>" /></label> </p> </td> <?php if($general_options['cls_logo'] && $general_options['cls_logo'] !== 'cls_none'){ ?> <td> <img id="community-legal-services-logo-preview" class="image-preview" src="<?php echo $general_options['cls_logo_path']?>" /> </td> <?php } ?> </tr> he everyone please i want to know how to submit a form using ajax every 5 minutes without reloading page i have a huge form for exams and i need to submit the form without the need to wait until pressing submit because the user may wait to think about the answer a very long time.. so i want to submit the form and at the same time i cant reload the page as it is in normal submit form.. so how i can submit form in the background without letting the user knows that the form is submitted??? Here is the link in question. I have created a small page with the isolated problem on it. http://frontendaudio.com/v/vspfiles/...pt_tester.html the javascript file that is referenced basically only does one thing. It searches for "> >" and then alerts us whether or not it's on the page. --- It pulls the innerHTML of the entire document --- the searches it - and indexes the string. I echoed the string out to a text area so you could see the string "> >" is clearly there after the word microphones in the link tag... </a> > < etc.. Any thoughts on how I can detect this string somehow? Thanks. Here is the code inside the javascript file. Code: var myStringDiscuss = 'microphones</a> >'; myStringDiscuss = myStringDiscuss.replace(/~/g,""); // unmunge function discussDetection(){ var str = document.getElementsByTagName('html')[0].innerHTML; str = str.toLowerCase(); // to make case insensitive var category_string = str.indexOf(myStringDiscuss); if (category_string == -1) { alert("not on this page"); } else { alert("IS on the page"); } } window.onload= discussDetection; I got an index.php Code: <html> <form action="bacakomik.php" method='post'> <select name="kodekomik"> <option value='../komik1/|23'>Judul Komik1</option> <option value="../komik2/|20">Judul Komik2</option> <option value="../komik3/|10">Juduk Komik3</option> <option value="../komik4/|20">Judul Komik4</option> </select> <input type="submit" /> </form> <?php echo ('<select>'); echo ('<option value= "'.$i.'">'.'Page '.$i.'</option>'); echo ('</select>'); ?> </html> As you can see, each of the option brings specific value "../komik1/|23" komik1 is a directory | is a delimiter 23 is the pages in one chapter and can be considered also as how many images are there on a specific directory This is my bacakomik.php Code: <?php $dirkomik = $_POST['kodekomik']; $exploded = explode("|", $dirkomik); echo ($exploded[0]); //picture directory echo ("<br>"); echo ($exploded[1]); //total page in the comic $pagecount = (int)$exploded[1]; //Take last posted value, process it right away echo ('<FORM name="guideform"> '); echo ('<select name="guidelinks">'); $i=1; do { echo ('<option value= "'.$i.'">'.'Page '.$i.'</option>'); $i= $i+1; }while($i <= $pagecount); //Printing option and select echo ("</select>"); ?> <input type="button" name="go" value="Go!" onClick="document.getElementById('im').src=document.guideform.guidelinks.options[document.guideform.guidelinks.selectedIndex].value+'.png';"> </FORM> <img src="img0.jpg" id="im"> With the current code on bacakomik.php, I only can change the img src of id "im" in the same directory only. What I want is that the Javascript could "add" the "$exploded[0]" variable so that the picture can be loaded from different directory. Anyone can do this? I believe that the fix should be somewhere on input tag inside OnClick, or do you know where? Anyway, I found this on the net http://p2p.wrox.com/php-faqs/11606-q...avascript.html Please help me to those who can... |
