JavaScript - Getselection() In Iframe Of External Server / Domain / Site
Hey guys. Is there any any ANY way to read highlighted text of in an iframe that is displaying an external server / site? Say you select some text in the iframe and click a button outside of the iframe that prints the selected text to a textbox?
Really really would love to do this or any ANY workaround. This really sucks that its a security measure by default that doesn't allow this!! Ugh! Similar TutorialsHello, First time on the forum and I am admittedly a complete noob, so forgive me for any grievous misconceptions. I am a teacher trying to create a bulletin board on my website where students, teachers, and parents can post messages. I am trying to use the site linoit.com I am trying to embed that site on my website using an iframe url: http://www.capretto.net/stickyboard.shtml My problem is that when you go to the message board on my site it asks your for a username and password to login to access my message board from linoit. I was hoping there is a scripts or other trick that will auto fill the username and password when the page loads so that the message board opens automatically. Not too worried about privacy, but I could distribute the username and password to all interested parents, teachers, etc. but in my experience one more step between students and the information they need can be the difference between them not receiving the info. I'd be happy to give any contributors credit on my site for their coding help. Thanks in advance. I'm kind of new to javascript so forgive me for my ignorance. Is their anyway to track right mouse click within an iframe that is linked to an external site (i.e. www.nbc.com)? I'm trying to see if I can have a alert window say "This is an image" when i right click on an image within the iframe. I have the following JavaScript (see below). The script requests an XML file from the server and displays it on the page. The script works fine when the requested XML file is stored on the same server as the script. The problem is when I try requesting an XML file from an external server such as the National Weather Service. I get an error. If I take the XML file from the National Weather Service and save it to my server it works. Why can't I use my script to request XML files stored on external servers? Thanks in advance for any help. Javascript Code Code: window.onload = initAll; var xhr = false; function initAll() { document.getElementById("makeTextRequest").onclick = getNewFile; document.getElementById("makeXMLRequest").onclick = getNewFile; } function getNewFile() { makeRequest(this.href); return false; } function makeRequest(url) { if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { xhr = new XMLHttpRequest(); } else { if (window.ActiveXObject) { try { xhr = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch (e) { } } } if (xhr) { xhr.onreadystatechange = showContents; xhr.open("GET", url, true); xhr.send(null); } else { document.getElementById("updateArea").innerHTML = "Sorry, but I couldn't create an XMLHttpRequest"; } } function showContents() { if (xhr.readyState == 4) { if (xhr.status == 200) { if (xhr.responseXML && xhr.responseXML.contentType=="text/xml") { var outMsg = xhr.responseXML.getElementsByTagName("choices")[0].textContent; } else { var outMsg = xhr.responseText; } } else { var outMsg = "There was a problem with the request " + xhr.status; } document.getElementById("updateArea").innerHTML = outMsg; } } HTML Code Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>My First Ajax Script</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="script01.js"></script> </head> <body> <p><a id="makeXMLRequest" href="http://www.weather.gov/xml/current_obs/KOJC.xml">Request an XML file</a></p> <div id="updateArea"> </div> </body> </html> Hi there everybody, I've got this problem which I can't solve myself... I've got a website which has 3 colums and is hosted on domain1.com. in the right column I've got an Iframe which loads content from domain2.com . this content are some textboxes and a datepicker tool. if I press the 'search'-button in this Iframe I would like to refresh the mainpage (from domain1.com) so that another Iframe appears in the middle column. in this column i would like to load a new form from domain2.com which contains the values that I've put in in the form from the right Iframe. Unfortunally I can't get this to work... Will somebody please help me? Hello I'm using lytebox to open an iframe, but the iframe url is in another domain that the parent window. i need to close the iframe when user clicks a button. I can do that with javascript : top.$lb.end(); the $lb.end(); starts lytebox scripts in parent window which close the iframe and modify all the css stuff. That works when my iframe url is in the same domain. But when it's in another domain, that does'nt work. Can anyone tells me how to do that ? Starting the $lb.end() function of the parent window ? Thank you. JavaScript code is not traversing via Iframe with Cross Domain. Actually i was assigned with a project, to grab the top page URL, which has many Iframes, which are coming from different domains. The final sub domain has the JavaScript code, which has to grab the top page URL. Can anyone help me out in this???? I read the "http://bodybrowser.googlelabs.com/body.html" page into an Iframe on my page. I now need to print the "viewcontainer" DIV that resides in the iframe. Accessing divs in an iframe is an issue with cross domain sources. Can anyone help me with a workaround or different idea? Thanks in advance!! Anyone know if there is a way to get the title string from an iframe src coming from another domain?
Hi, I'm currently developing an application (in php) for a website that is to be integrated into their website using iframe. It's imperative that it's done using iframe as I am placing the application on my own server. In short, the iframe element appears on my customer's website (lets say customer.com) - something like this: <iframe width="440" height="500" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" src="http://www.myserver.com/index.php"></iframe> However, it's quite imperative that my application (i.e. what's located at myserver.com/index.php) only can be shown in iframe elements placed at customer.com. That is: I want to make sure that a similar iframe element from another web server (lets say anothercompany.com) has the possibility to iframe my application located at myserver.com. My first idea was to check this using php in my application: by looking at HTTP_REFERER, I can get the location of the page containing the iframe element. That solution seems to work fine. However, as is well known, it is possible to spoof and even hide the http_referer server variable. Still, as I only want to make sure that no other server accesses the application through an iframe object, it should perhaps be an okay solution - if someone wants to access the application from their own browser, and spoofing the HTTP_REFERER variable, I'm fine with that. (I just want to make sure that only customer.com, and not anothercompany.com, can integrate the application with an iframe). The other thought I had was to use javascript and DOM stuff. The idea is then to use javascript to check that the application has a parent frame and that its location is at customer.com. However, as we are dealing with two different domains here, I'm having a lot of problems getting the document.parent.location variable - it's not allowed! Any solutions on how to do this in javascript? Any way to bypass the obstacle above? Or perhaps javascript isn't the best way? My guess is that there is a solution out there somewhere - I guess there are a lot of ads that are integrated into various websites using iframe, and where the actual content (i.e. what's inside the iframe element) can check which server is embedding the ad through an iframe element. I'm wondering if anyone out there has a jquery solution to using an iframe that automatically adjusts it's height of the child and also works cross domain. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm facing an issue with fetching the page URL from an IFRAME with cross domain. Is there any approach/ any ways to achieve this? Hey everyone, I'm working on a script, but I've been stopped by an error code from regex's match function. Firefox is giving me a "text.match is not a function". My assumption is that it may be the getSelection that is causing the error. Any clarification would be much appreciated! Code: function captureText(){ var txt = ""; if(window.getSelection){ var text = window.getSelection(); } else if(document.selection){ var text = document.selection.createRange().text; } else { return; } if(text != ""){ var reg = /^[A-Z](.*?)+(\.)$/g; var check = text.match(reg); alert(check); alert("You selected: "+text); if(window.getSelection){ window.getSelection().removeAllRanges(); } else if(document.selection){ text.blur(); document.selection.empty(); } else { return; } } } document.onmouseup = captureText; Thanks. well i'm kind of new to this website and scripting with javascript but i am wondering: in a client side .js file i have some coding which results in a string which is stored in a variable called exportData now i want that string to be written into a text file on a server but how do i do that? it is not local on the client's pc and i can't find how to do it anywhere... can you guys help me? greetings, Fady I have two pages A and B. I have a link in the page A. I have two iframes in the page B. In practice, the link in the page A must open the page B and the link's href must open in the second iframe of the page B. Is there any script that does this? Disclaimer 1: I am not a programmer, just a curious designer, so please take that into consideration in your replies. Disclaimer 2: Despite all advices against it, I couldn't find a better solution to my website than using iFrame Disclaimer 3: Before asking for help, I researched *several* forums and although I found people discussing similar issues, I was not successful at adapting their solutions to my needs. Gentlemen, I need your help implementing a method to intercept and redirect external links to a dynamic iframe. By "dynamic" iframe I mean an iframe whose SRC would be filled up in accordance to the external URL being intercepted and that it would resize its HEIGHT accordingly in order to avoid scroll bars. The function for resizing the iframe id="child" is already correctly implemented like so: Code: <script language="JavaScript"> <!-- function calcHeight() { //find the height of the internal page var the_height= document.getElementById('child').contentWindow. document.body.scrollHeight; //change the height of the iframe document.getElementById('child').height= the_height; } //--> </script> and the call Code: <iframe src="/main/index.php" width="100%" onLoad="calcHeight();" height="1" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" id="child"> This what I have going on: - index.html => contains some content and the iframe id="child" - childpage1[...N].php => several PHP pages which I do not want to show up outside of the parent "index.html". These pages use clean URLs from CMS such as "http://mydomain.com/pages/this-is-a-child-page/" Users might click on external links from search engines, for instance, about an specific page such as "http://mydomain.com/pages/this-is-child-page-7/" which obviously would load the page "orphaned", outside "index.html" and that is exactly what I am trying to avoid. Based on what I have researched so far, the best way (please, correct me if I'm wrong) to deal with this would be implementing a test condition on the header of the PHP child pages to verify if they are on "top" or not (if they are already inside the "parent" object "index.html"). If FALSE, the page would load normally, if TRUE, a variable should be created to store the URL of the requested page and passed through the link to the page "index.html" which would be immediately called. In "index.html" there would be a script to collect the variable sent through the link (something like "http://mydomain.com/?var=http://mydomain.com/pages/this-is-child-page-7/") and break the text string apart, store a portion of PATHNAME (in this case, "/pages/this-is-child-page-7/) and use it to replace the current SRC of iframe id="child". Probably, there would have to be another testing function in this script to compare the variable passed from the "orphaned" PHP page against the current value of SRC in iframe id="child" to determine if any action is actually required. This "replacement" function would be called onLoad and if tested true would run and refresh the page with the proper value in the iframe SRC. All this should be accomplished while still making the iframe HEIGHT dynamically adjustable and show a "clean" URL in the browser, such as "http://mydomain.com". The potential issues I foresee is an infinite loop due to two onLoad queries (one for SRC, another for HEIGHT) in the parent and child objects, which might required a merge into a single script. As you can tell, I have an idea of what needs to be done but not a clue on how to get it done. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Hello. I have built a basic website that contains an iframe in the middle, called "iframe1". In this iframe I wish to load an external message board from proboards.com. In my code I can easily do this by making a button or hyper-link with the href="httproboards.com/myforums" and the rel="nofollow" target="iframe1" When I do this it will load inside of it the iframe jsut as I want it to. However, my the problem is when you click on the button to login its coded to target "_top" and it opens on the entire page replacing the whole website. If i run firebug (a real time HTML editor). I can easily locate and change the link code to rel="nofollow" target="iframe1". But How can I write a script in javascript in my webpage code to do this as soon as the iframe has loaded the external messageboard? I have also been trying things like javascript:void(document.iframe1.getElementsByTag("a")[5].rel="nofollow" target="iframe1") but i have had no luck so far in changing the target without the aid of firebug. Here is the code that needs to be changed. the rel="nofollow" target="_top" needs to be altered somehow to rel="nofollow" target="iframe1" as soon as the frame has finished loading the messageboards. Code: <p><font size="2"> Welcome Guest. Please <a href="/index.cgi?action=login" rel="nofollow" target="_top">Login</a> or <a href="/index.cgi?action=register" rel="nofollow" target="_top">Register</a>.<br/>Nov 19, 2010, 7:23pm </font><br /></p> Heres a screenshot that may help, as you can see I have easily changed the target of the link to="iframe1" using firebug, but I need to hardcode a script in my website that does this automatically after the iframe has loaded the forums page. http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/7264/26796014.jpg Thanks to for any help. Say I have a website, that I want to use an iframe with. Would be possible, to use Javascript to change the logo image of an iframe of myspace (just for the example), to one on my site? So switch the logo of myspace with one on my server? Is this possible? Blockis Problem resolved. Please delete.
So, I have to rely on a third party external JS file to load into a site of mine. Problem is I have to have it (for ads), but once every blue moon the server fails to repond to the request (its down or unresponsive), and thus because the JS can't load, the site hangs. Is there a reliable js/ajax etc.. mechanism that I can use to set an allotted time and if the js isn't loaded, cancel the call or stop it so the page can load? Please advise. Caveats: I cannot host it, I cannot use php. Basically I was given a script call and I include it in the header of the page. I don't have alot of room to host, use various technologies etc.. other than what I am able to use without any backend/app scripting. Hi, I have a script that writes to an IFRAME, it writes dynamically and then needs to reload it server side. Anybody knows how to do it? I'm joining the code of my attempt but it appears to be reloading the IFRAME on the client side therefore causing an activeX error since I am running this in FireFox: PHP Code: var frTraductionID = document.getElementById("frTraduction"); frTraductionID = (frTraductionID.contentWindow) ? frTraductionID.contentWindow : (frTraductionID.contentDocument.document) ? frTraductionID.contentDocument.document : frTraductionID.contentDocument; var x=frTraductionID.document.getElementById("hCount").value; var ifrm = document.getElementById("ifUPDATE"); ifrm = (ifrm.contentWindow) ? ifrm.contentWindow : (ifrm.contentDocument.document) ? ifrm.contentDocument.document : ifrm.contentDocument; ifrm.document.open(); ifrm.document.write('<scr' + 'ipt language=javascript type="text/javascript" runat=server>'); ifrm.document.write('var fso = new Active' + 'XObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject"); '); ifrm.document.write('var f = fso.OpenTextFile("' + sFileName + '", 2, true); '); for (var i=0;i<x;i+=1) { var sString=""; sString +="f.WriteLine('"; sString +=frTraductionID.document.getElementById("h"+i).value; sString +='="'; sDetail=frTraductionID.document.getElementById("d"+i).value.replace('"', ' '); sDetail=sDetail.replace("'", "`"); sString +=sDetail; sString +='"'; sString +="')"; sString +="; "; alert("i = " + i + " str = " + sString); ifrm.document.write(sString); } ifrm.document.write("f.Close();"); ifrm.document.write("</Scr" + "ipt>"); ifrm.document.close(); document.getElementById('ifUPDATE').contentWindow.location.reload(true); any help would be appreciated. |
