JavaScript - Modify Javascript Site Search Code?
Hi all.... newbie here. Have just finished my eccomerce site and it's ready to go but have come across a stumbling block. I use webplus4 which is a great web design program... except for one thing. The site search tool is very weak... it won't find results for words of less than 4 characters... and since my website is about plush pets this is important. For instance if you type in the breed 'pug' it says 0 results found. Same if you enter Old English Sheepdog, it ignores the entire search term because of the world 'old'. If you enter plush pug, it also ignores the entire search string.
I don't have the money to purchase software nor the time and then configure the javascript to match my site. Is there anyone out there that can modify the following javascript file (jsSiteSearch.js) so that the search will not ignore words of 3 letters? Am aware that once modified I will have to replace the file each time but it will be worth it. By the way, no one on the webplus forums seems to know how to do it. Here is the code... (have removed all the keywords)... function GetSiteSearchResults(newWindow, frameObject, frameObjectName, fontFace, fontSize, fontColour, linkFace, lin kSize, linkColour, resultsText) { var sTerms=""; var iDepth = 0; var sURL = new String(document.location); if (sURL.indexOf("?") > 0) { var arrParams = sURL.split("?"); var arrURLParams = arrParams[1].split("&"); for (var i=0;i<arrURLParams.length;i++) { var sParam = arrURLParams[i].split("="); var sValue = unescape(sParam[1]); if( sParam[0] == frameObjectName) sTerms = sValue; if( sParam[0] == "depth") iDepth = parseInt(sValue); } } var d=frameObject.document; if (sTerms=="") {d.open(); d.write("<html><head></head><body style=\"background: transparent;\"></body></html>"); d.close();return;} var sBack=""; for (i=0; i<iDepth; i++) sBack+='..\\\\'; d.open(); d.write("<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC \"-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN\">"); d.write("<html lang=\"en\">"); d.write("<head>"); d.write("<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; charset=UTF-8\">"); d.write("</head>"); d.write("<body style=\"margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; font-family: "+fontFace+"; font-size: "+fontSize+"; color: "+fontColour+"; background: transparent;\">"); d.write("<div id=\"wpSearchResults\"></div>"); d.write("<script type=\"text/javascript\">"); d.write("var wordMap = new Array(\"...........................................); d.write("function doNav(ind)"); d.write("{"); if (newWindow) d.write(" window.open(\""+sBack+"\"+linkMap[ind],\"_blank\");"); else d.write(" parent.window.location.href=linkMap[ind];"); d.write("}"); d.write("function wpDoSearch(searchTerms){"); d.write("var terms = searchTerms.split(\" \");"); d.write("if (terms==\"\") return;"); d.write("var results = \"\";"); d.write("var resultscount = 0;"); d.write("for (var i=0; i<wordMap.length; i++)"); d.write("{"); d.write(" var found=true;"); d.write(" for (var j=0; j<terms.length; j++)"); d.write(" if (wordMap[i].indexOf(terms[j].toLowerCase())==-1) found=false;"); d.write(" if (found)"); d.write(" {"); d.write(" results+=\"<a style=\\\"cursor: pointer; font-family: "+linkFace+"; font-size: "+linkSize+"; color: "+linkColour+"; \\\" onclick=\\\"doNav(\"+i+\");\\\"><u>\"+pageMap[i]+\"</u></a><br>\"+preMap[i]+\"...<br><br>\";"); d.write(" resultscount++;"); d.write(" }"); d.write("}"); d.write("document.getElementById(\"wpSearchResults\").innerHTML=resultscount+\" "+resultsText+" \"+searchTerms+\"<br><br>\"+results;"); d.write("}"); while(sTerms.indexOf("\"") != -1 ) { sTerms = sTerms.replace("\"",""); }; d.write("wpDoSearch(\""+sTerms+"\");"); d.write("</script>"); d.write("</body></html>"); d.close(); } Thanks so very much in advance. Any help asap will be much appreciated. Cheers Similar TutorialsHi, I came across this thread and I've decided to use jmrker's code. Code: <html> <head> <title>Clock Example</title> <script type="text/javascript"> function startTime() { var d=(new Date); var str = d.toLocaleTimeString().toLowerCase().replace(' ',''); var tmp = d.toLocaleDateString().split(' '); var dm = d.getDate(); switch (dm) { case 1: case 21: case 31: dm += 'st'; break; case 2: case 22: dm += 'nd'; break; case 3: case 23: dm += 'rd'; break; default: dm += 'th'; break; } str += ' '+tmp[0].substr(0,3)+', '+tmp[1].substr(0,3)+' '+dm+', '+tmp[3]; startTime.out.innerHTML = str; } onload = function(){ startTime.out=document.getElementById("time"); setInterval(startTime, 1000); }; </script> <body> <div id="time"></div> </body> </html> However, I would like to modify some elements. Right now the date and time are displayed in this format: Quote: 9:58:45am Sat, Feb 26th, 2011 I would like to know how to change it to look like this: Quote: SAT 09:58:45 AM (for example) Could someone please break down the code and let me know what I need to change to get this to work? Or, if it's less trouble, just change the code for me? Thanks, I appreciate your time. I need educating please. I have a javscript page (fred.js) that contains some variables and some code. I want to be able to change the variables (in particular an array) within fred.js on the server and store the new version of fred.js back on the server. I can write a php routine that stores the array in a MySQL table. Now I want to know how to write some code (and in what language) to read the MySQL table and update fred.js and store it back onto the Server. Can someone please tell me what language I should be using to do this (Ajax??) so that I can do some reading please. I could of course simply write some php code to read the table and pass the parameters to a js page and build the array as each person accesses the web page but this would be slow. Hence I would prefer to have the ability to update the js page and store it back onto the server. I have a code for creating a search bar to search words on an unpublished site that i am developing. I was wondering where to enter the keywords, can anyone help me? Hi need help with a loan calculator script, i know the moderator frowns on such requests but i just have to, im willing 2 buy a cup of coffee if it works, i want the code below to display the total loan repayment amount instead of the monthly payment payment = principle * monthly interest/(1 - (1/(1+MonthlyInterest)*Months)) , eg if if l0an is 20$ payment is in 4 months, intrest rate is 15% display = amount to be repaid. thanks Code: <script language="JavaScript"> <!-- function showpay() { if ((document.calc.loan.value == null || document.calc.loan.value.length == 0) || (document.calc.months.value == null || document.calc.months.value.length == 0) || (document.calc.rate.value == null || document.calc.rate.value.length == 0)) { document.calc.pay.value = "Incomplete data"; } else { var princ = document.calc.loan.value; var term = document.calc.months.value; var intr = document.calc.rate.value / 1200; document.calc.pay.value = princ * intr / (1 - (Math.pow(1/(1 + intr), term))); } // payment = principle * monthly interest/(1 - (1/(1+MonthlyInterest)*Months)) } // --> </script> The results of this loan payment calculator are for comparison purposes only. They will be a close approximation of actual loan repayments if available at the terms entered, from a financial institution. This is being provided for you to plan your next loan application. To use, enter values for the Loan Amount, Number of Months for Loan, and the Interest Rate (e.g. 7.25), and click the Calculate button. Clicking the Reset button will clear entered values. <p> <center> <form name=calc method=POST> <table width=60% border=0> <tr><th bgcolor="#aaaaaa" width=50%><font color=blue>Description</font></th> <th bgcolor="#aaaaaa" width=50%><font color=blue>Data Entry</font></th></tr> <tr><td bgcolor="#eeeee">Loan Amount</td><td bgcolor="#aaeeaa" align=right><input type=text name=loan size=10></td></tr> <tr><td bgcolor="#eeeee">Loan Length in Months</td><td bgcolor="#aaeeaa" align=right><input type=text name=months size=10></td></tr> <tr><td bgcolor="#eeeee">Interest Rate</td><td bgcolor="#aaeeaa" align=right><input type=text name=rate size=10></td></tr> <tr><td bgcolor="#eeeee">Monthly Payment</td><td bgcolor="#eeaaaa" align=right><em>Calculated</em> <input type=text name=pay size=10></td></tr> <tr><td bgcolor="#aaeeaa"align=center><input type=button onClick='showpay()' value=Calculate></td><td bgcolor="#eeeeaa" align=center><input type=reset value=Reset></td></tr> </table> </form> <font size=1>Enter only numeric values (no commas), using decimal points where needed.<br> Non-numeric values will cause errors.</font> </center> <p align="center"><font face="arial" size="-2">This free script provided by</font><br> <font face="arial, helvetica" size="-2"><a href="http://javascriptkit.com">JavaScript Kit</a></font></p> I need help making it possible for the prefixes to be available when the post is being Modify? The user have to go back and change their prefixes to ended after they get the result for the outcome of the buy, sell, trade. When I hit Modify the prefix box was no longer available. It is on the subject line when I hit modify: Example. I have a thread title "Testing" and I chose Buy prefix when I started the thread. When I hit Modify, the prefix box is no longer available but the subject does say Buy:Testing. I would have to go and delete the Buy from the subject and manually type Ended. And also each prefixes a specific color if that's possible (i.e., Buy , Sell , Trade , Ended ) The prefix box now is below the subject line. I would love for it to be next to the subject line like in this forum. THANKS! <script type='text/javascript'> /* Add prefixes to posts*/ var prefixes = ['Buy:','Sell:','Trade:','Ended:']; if( new RegExp('post$','i').test( this.location.href )) { document.postForm.nextaction.nextSibling.disabled = true; var Tab = document.postForm.subject.parentNode.parentNode.parentNode; var iRow = Tab.insertRow(2); var iCell; iCell = iRow.insertCell(0); iCell.className = 'windowbg'; var Font = document.createElement('font'); Font.size = 2; Font.appendChild( document.createTextNode('Prefixes:') ); iCell.appendChild( Font ); iCell = iRow.insertCell(1); iCell.className = 'windowbg'; var Select = document.createElement('select'); Select.id = 'preprepre'; Select.options[0] = new Option('Choose prefix'); for( var s = 0 ; s < prefixes.length ; s ++ ) Select.options[s+1] = new Option(prefixes[s]); iCell.appendChild( Select ); function checkpre(event) { if( document.getElementById('preprepre').selectedIndex == 0 ) document.postForm.nextaction.nextSibling.disabled = true; else document.postForm.nextaction.nextSibling.disabled = false; } function addpre(event) { document.postForm.subject.value = document.getElementById('preprepre').options[ document.getElementById('preprepre').selectedIndex ].innerHTML+document.postForm.subject.value; } if(document.addEventListener) { document.getElementById('preprepre').addEventListener('change',checkpre,false) document.postForm.addEventListener('submit',addpre,false); }else{ document.getElementById('preprepre').attachEvent('onchange',checkpre); document.postForm.attachEvent('onsubmit',addpre); } } </script> I am trying for a javascript code that would ask for the excel file location when run, fetch data from two columns till eof in an excel file (MS Excel 2010), append it to an existing text file and upload the plain text file to an ftp location. Thanks, Alan Hey guys, wondering if anyone can help me. My JS knowledge is pretty non-existent. Basically I am currently using this code for a day countdown: Code: <script> //change the text below to reflect your own, var before="" var current="" var montharray=new Array("Jan","Feb","Mar","Apr","May","Jun","Jul","Aug","Sep","Oct","Nov","Dec") function countdown(yr,m,d){ var today=new Date() var todayy=today.getYear() if (todayy < 1000) todayy+=1900 var todaym=today.getMonth() var todayd=today.getDate() var todaystring=montharray[todaym]+" "+todayd+", "+todayy var futurestring=montharray[m-1]+" "+d+", "+yr var difference=(Math.round((Date.parse(futurestring)-Date.parse(todaystring))/(24*60*60*1000))*1) var dstring=difference.toString() if (difference==0) document.write(current) else if (difference>0){ document.write("") for (i=0;i<=dstring.length-1;i++) document.write('<img src="/c'+dstring.charAt(i)+'.png">') document.write('<img src="/days.png">'+before) } } //enter the count down date using the format year/month/day countdown(2011,08,17) </script> I like this script because it outputs in images. As you can see in my site at: http://www.bigbrothersite.co.uk/ (in the header) My question is, can that script above be adapted so it also works as a count up script. For example, from the 17th of august, can i somehow adapt it so i can use it to count up the days? Any help please. Thanks! I'm trying to create a form where the user enters data in a field and is redirected to a URL based on that entry - example: user enters 1234 and he is directed to mypage.com/1234/index.htm - if that folder does not exist it would give a 'try again' error. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance Cyber-guys Edit: Problem solved.
I have a page that open two frames. Second frame, most of the page, is empty. First frame contains a form that retrieves user input, when you click the button, it send that input back to the original parent html, which detects the GET parameters, and builds a custom URL. I want to then load that custom URL in the 2nd empty frame. I figure I need to modify the src atttribute of the 2nd frame in the frameset, but I can't make it work. Code: <frameset id='parent' rows='10%,90%'> <frame id='frm1' src='./form.html' /> <frame id='frm2' src='' /> </frameset> <script>modFrmSrc();</script> where modFrmSrc() checks for the GET values, builds the URL, and then tries to load the URL in frm2. Is there a way to get this done? First off please forgive my ignorance, as I am very new to coding. I hope that I have posted this in the right place. I found a great piece of code that I would like to use for my site search. I found it he http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/...e_search.shtml Here is what I am attempting to do. I would like this piece of code to search all three of my domains, if this is possible. I would like to use this search box on all three of my websites, if this is possible. If you look at this site: www.kennedyassassinationresearch.com I would like to keep the look similar to what it is now, and use this code in the upper right corner of the header, where the black search box is now. Is any of this possible? the code I located is: Code: <form name="jksearch" action="http://www.google.com/search" method="get" onSubmit="jksitesearch(this)"> <p>Search JavaScript Kit:<br /> <input id="hiddenquery" type="hidden" name="q" /> <input name="qfront" type="text" style="width: 200px" value="navigator object" /> <input type="submit" value="Search" /><br /> <div style="font: bold 11px Verdana;">Google:<input name="se" type="radio" checked> *Yahoo:<input name="se" type="radio"> *MSN:<input name="se" type="radio"> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> // All-in-one Internal Site Search script- By JavaScriptKit.com (http://www.javascriptkit.com) // For this and over 400+ free scripts, visit JavaScript Kit- http://www.javascriptkit.com/ // This notice must stay intact for use //Enter domain of site to search. var domainroot="www.javascriptkit.com" var searchaction=[ //form action for the 3 search engines "http://www.google.com/search", "http://search.yahoo.com/search", "http://search.msn.com/results.aspx" ] var queryfieldname=["q","p","q"] //name of hidden query form for the 3 search engines function switchaction(cur, index){ cur.form.action=searchaction[index] document.getElementById("hiddenquery").name=queryfieldname[index] } function jksitesearch(curobj){ for (i=0; i< document.jksearch.se.length; i++){ //loop through radio to see which is checked if (document.jksearch.se[i].checked==true) switchaction(document.jksearch.se[i], i) } document.getElementById("hiddenquery").value="site:"+domainroot+" "+curobj.qfront.value } </script> </p> </form> <p style="font: normal 11px Arial">This free script provided by<br /> <a href="http://www.javascriptkit.com">JavaScript Kit</a></p> Any help is greatly appreciated, as this is a learning experience for me, and this has me quite confused. It's only for a personal site so I can skip directly to a page easily just by typing a keyword in a search box. Hope you understand what I mean. And thanks. I'm trying to add an internal site search to my website, and it only work for some search items, not for everything. For example, if I search for Bud Light, Budweiser, Bud Light Lime, it finds them. But if I search for Stella Artois, Paulaner, or Hoegaarden, it doesn't find anything. I'm thinking there's something wrong with the javascript code, I'm just not sure how to fix it. We uploaded it to the school site (http://graphics.cs.wisc.edu/Courses/...spacewars.html) where it works the way it should. (In Firefox; other browsers don't work as well.) However, I'm trying to upload the exact same code to my own website (http://www.tessaverbruggen.nl/Games/...spacewars.html), where for some reason it refuses to run and instead crashes the browser. To me it seems like it's stuck in some sort of while-loop. If I run it locally, it works fine (once again, in Firefox, after changing some settings in Firefox). I program regularly, but I rarely do things web-related. So all the website related stuff was done by others. Which means I have absolutely no idea where to even start debugging. Theoretically it shouldn't be anything in the code as it's the exact same code, and it also runs locally... Could it be some setting on my website/server? If not, what could it possibly be/where should I look? Thanks! Hello! I am trying to create a javascript code in which I prompt the user for a number (an integer from 0 to 100) to search for, then search a function with the number they entered and then display whether the number was found, and if found, a location where it can be found within the list. Can you please tell me what is wrong? <html> <head> </head> <body> <script language = "javascript"> var list = new Array(200); for (var i=0; i < 200; i++){ list=Math.round(Math.random()*100) + " "; document.write(list); } var value=prompt("What is the number you are searching for? ", " "); if (list[i]==value){ {alert("Number has been found in location" +i)}; } </script> </body> </html> Thank you Currently I'm trying to modify OOTB code for a search box. I'm not sure if this is best addressed within the JavaScript or CSS. After a search term has been typed in, the users picks a match which opens in a new window, then they close the new window, and try to back space over the typed term, there is a white bar that remains below the text entry box. For example, if the word bathroom is typed in the text box, a list of possible matching topics is displayed. You pick the option to Where is the bathroom?. This opens a new window/tab - just close the tab. The original search box still displays the term bathroom, but if you backspace to remove the term, then a white bar remains below the text entry box. How do I get rid of the white bar when the text entry box is empty? The code being used is shown below - attachment shows the problem as it appears in IE and FF: A temporary page with the search box. Code: <style type="text/css"> /* autosuggest css */ /* the look of the overlay div with results */ #la_results { border: 1px solid #bbb; border-color: #bbb #6f6f6f #6f6f6f #bbb; border-top: 0; -moz-box-shadow: 3px 3px 8px #444; -webkit-box-shadow: 3px 3px 8px #444; -moz-border-radius-bottomright: 5px; -moz-border-radius-bottomleft: 5px; -webkit-border-bottom-right-radius: 5px; -webkit-border-bottom-left-radius: 5px; background: #fff; } /*the two divs below control the look and feel of individual results, which show up as LI elements in the overlay div */ #la_results ul { list-style-type: none; margin:0; padding:0; font:normal 11px Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;} #la_results ul li a { display: block; text-decoration:none; padding:3px } .itemwhite { background-color:#fff;} /* the color of the "white" stripe in the results div */ .itemcol { background-color:#efefef;} /* the color of the "color" stripe in the results div */ #la_results li a:hover { background-color: #f8bb49;} /*the color of the hover effect when the user goes thru the results */ /* the class below controls the font and the look of the "more search/full text search stripe */ .itemsrch {color:#cc3333;font:bold 11px Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; background-color:#FFFFCC;} .nwylf { color:#900;} /* "not what you are looking for?" text color */ </style> <!-- start of LA widget --> <div id="la_wrapper" style="width:500px;background-color:#F3f3f3;margin:0;padding:6px;border: solid 1px #a9cee7;"> <p>Type a question:</p> <input type="text" id="la_suggest" style="display:block; margin-top: 6px; width: 100%; height: 24px; font-size: 14px" onFocus="document.getElementById('la_results')[removed]=''" onKeyUp="if (this.value) {laFQM(this.value)} else {document.getElementById('la_results')[removed]=''}" value="" > <div id="la_results" style="padding-top: 2px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size:11px; position:absolute; margin-top:0px; width:500px; border: solid 1px #ccc;display:none"></div> </div> <script language="javascript">var lahilite="efefef"; var lanw=1;</script> <script language="javascript" src="http://api.libanswers.com/api/ladata-32.js"></script> Thanks much. |
