JavaScript - Outside Menu Click Hide
Hi Im trying to make a dropdown menu like IGN has on his site with the following javascript code.
The only problem however is I can't seem to hide the menu when a user clicks outside the menu. This is a bit frustrated because when a user wants to hide the menu again the need to reclick the menu header. Is there anyway I could solve this problem? Also a explanation about the code would be helpfull im not used to work with javascript. Also this is the code I have so far which works to onclick hide and show the menu. javascript: PHP Code: function toggle(id) { var el = document.getElementById(id); if ( el.style.display != 'none' ) { el.style.display = 'none'; } else { el.style.display = ''; } HTML: PHP Code: <a href="#top" onclick="toggle('view_user-options');";>Panel

my test

Also if anyone knows how to do it plz combine it with my code so it works. I always get in trouble with javascript when combining two codes in one. Note: plz don't give me solution with tons of code I just want a verry simple solution. Similar Tutorialshello! I currently have 2 UL's that get slide down when you click a button (used for navigation). I currently have it set up so that when you click the "ul#selectService" they slide down, and when you click it a second time it will slide back up and disappear. However, they only way to get the UL's to disappear is to click the "ul#selectService" a second time, so I'm trying to get it set up so that when you click on anything that isn't the UL's it will cause it to slide back up again. i currently have been working on a starting idea to show what I'm basically trying to do so that you can get a rough estimate of my goal: This is my HTML that i'm using: Code:

Code: var $box = $('#selectService'); $("*:not(#serviceSelect)").click(function(){ if (!$box.has(this).length) { // if the click was not within $box $('#selectService').hide(); $('#secondHalf).hide(); } }); Right now nothing is happening when i click out of the UL any thoughts? I would like to hide/show each id's (i.e. id1=& It is simple to hide whole text but how about part of it ? Hi I have created the following effects on the images seen here http://techavid.com/design/test3.html . You see when you hover and then click on each image, they go from grey to color. When you click on one - the others go grey and the one clicked remains color. That's cool, but now I need the text 1st: Sun for example to display and hide along with its graphic button. The word "Sun," is a link that needs to link out to a URL so it has to be separated from the image effect code. Here code I have now.... For about eight years I've had a UDM javascript menu on each of about 200 pages. It consists of a bunch of files that live in the top of my website and are called to each page by four lines of script. I have had only to edit appearance and links in one file. Instructions were to leave the others alone. The present version of the UDM menu is not free, as the old one was, and if I did buy it I'm not at all sure I'd be able to cope with it. Unless the names of the new files matched those of the old ones, I'd have to go in and edit each page individually. My problem is that IE9 doesn't display the menu, but does display its background, so there's a big beige block on the top left of every page. It looks bad. Would I be able to add to one of the files something like a conditional comment such as "If IE9 display none"? I would be truly grateful for any ideas that would help me fix this. My site is http://fay.iniminimo.com/ Thank you so much for your interest. Fay hy. i have menu further construction Code:

item 1

item 2

item 3

item 3 sub 1

item 3 sub 2

and my function to open my on obscure menu then mouse over to element teg a Code: function doMenu (li){ var oli = li.childNodes; var len = oli.length; if (len > 1) { for (var i = 0; i < len; i++) { if (oli[i].nodeType == 1) { if (oli[i].tagName == 'UL') { return oli[i]; }}}} }; function doShow(e) { if (e) { var t = e.target; console.log(t.tagName); var pN = t.parentNode; console.log(pN) if (pN.tagName == 'LI') { if (doMenu(pN)) { var oUl = doMenu(pN); if (oUl.style.display == "none") { oUl.style.display = "block" } else {oUl.style.display = "none"} }}}}; and my problem, then HTML page load full. I mouse over to element tag a and function at this moment not show element menu. why it so. Because then i start mouse over too, function start and menu show. who can explain me how it work. Hi I'm new to this forum, and i need help with something, i think its easy to make but... i am making video blogging website and i need someone to make Hide or show menu, for example: When someone click on: Season 1 (it should show) Episode 1 Episode 2 Episode 3... I have a website that I am trying to make the tabs at the top all work. I already did the setTab function but I am not even sure if that is right. I have found lots of other websites that have good advice but they want me to do things way different than the book. Basically they are leaning me away from Javascript. The whole point of the class. Can someone please take a look at these files and see if they can figure this out? I am including the original files as well as what I have so far. The page-1 is most of assignment and the Homework Description is the part that was cut off. Thank you in advance. Hello, at the moment I'm creating a website where on the frontpage (index.php) there is 2 divs that contains first a monitor-image with 3 computer screens, and then a div, that set an overlay over 2 of the screens - the divs like this:

//Contains the overlay

//Contains the screens
The CSS is: <css> #lastest { position:absolute; top:121px; width:960px; height:397px; background:url(../images/monitor_bg.png); z-index:-1; } #monitor_overlay { position:absolute; top:136px; margin-left:256px; width:443px; height:277px; background:url(../images/monitor_overlay.png) no-repeat; z-index:1; } </css> Those screens are needed on the index.php only - other content will be shown on the other sites. That I need is a javascript that does following: When loading the site it will automaticly load index.php - aka it shows the divs. Then when I press on the menu-button "Blog" or "Portfolio" it should hide the divs "monitor_overlay" and "lastest" but then if I press on "Home" again - I want the divs to be shown - How do I do this? I have searched for hours, and yeah to be honest, I'm not good at javascript - the only thing I have made once was to replace a background color and image when clicking a link or a menu-button: onclick="document.body.style.background='#169EF2 URL(\'images/background-darkblue.jpg\') center repeat-y fixed';" But hiding/showing a div when clicking a menu button is really a big problem for me - the only way I could se it should work should be something like this: Code: onclick="document.div.StyleByID('lastest','monitor_overlay').display.hidden;','document.div.StyleByID('anotherdiv').display.visible;" but it don't works. Any that can help? it would be so wonderful! Thank you, best regards, Lucas Kristensen Hello all, I built a javascript accordian menu that works very well.
