Seems to be an issue with the "text" input Similar TutorialsI have a form, which has a textarea. Though I'm wanting it to be able to submit with the enter key. Can anyone help me? Everything I've tried either refreshes, or does a linebreak. Heres the code to the whole page, seeing as the form takes up most of it. I have a very small script that simply displays a search box and redirects a user to a URL if they enter 29401 or 29455, else they go to a default page. The script works fine, but I cannot figure out how to make value="enter a zip code" in the input box so that it disappears when you click in the box. I also can't get the form to submit by pressing enter, you have to click "check". I can get all this working in straight HTML but the same won't work w/ javascript. Any help please? <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> function zipValidate(){ val = document.zipForm.zip.value; switch(val){ case "29401": case "29455": document.location = 'http://www.gohere.com'; break; default: document.location = 'http://www.or-go-here.com'; break; } } </SCRIPT> <form name="zipForm" id="zipForm" method="post" action=""> <input name="zip" type="text" id="zip" maxlength="5" /> <input name="zipButton" type="button" id="zipButton" value="Check" onclick="zipValidate()" /> </form> Hey: I have several "submit" buttons on a form. I want users to be able to hit the "enter" key to submit the form. The page used to "post" the information checks for specifically what form button was pushed to submit the form before executing the appropriate code. I am automatically submitting the page when the enter key is hit, but it is defaulting to the first option of executed code in the post page. Example - I have an "update" button and a "delete" button on the form. On the post page, I first check to see if the delete button was hit. When I press enter on the form, it simply answers yes to the first question (did they click the delete button), and the code is executed. I really wanted to emulate that the update button was hit. So -- is there a way to hit the enter button, and in the js code, mandate that it was the "update" button that was clicked? Thanks. Hi, Just wondering if you guys can help me to make the following script to work when the enter/return key is pressed, intead of having to click on the button? Code: <Script language=JavaScript> function read_model (form) { ModelVar =form.model_input.value; window.location= ("http://www.sony.co.uk/product/dsc-t-series/" + ModelVar + "/tab/technicalSpecs"); } </script> <form name=model_form action="" method=GET> Enter Sony Model Number (e.g. dsc-tx5): <input type=text name=model_input value="" size=9> <input type=button name=model_button value=Click onClick="read_model(this.form)"> </form> <script language=JavaScript> document.model_form.model_input.focus(); </script> I've searched the net for ways of achieving this, but for some reason none of the code i've tried works..! Also, if this make a difference, the page will mainly be used in Firefox. I'd be really greatfull if someone can help me with this, Thanks! Hi everyone. I'm 100% not a programmer so I need some help with this issue. We have a page for an e-mail newsletter sign up form. The site is built in Joomla. My question : is it possible for a URL link (from say, an email) to send a user to this sign up form and also to fill in a hidden value called channelmemberID? The code is
Code: <input type=hidden name="ChannelMemberID" value="101369"> and I would like to be able to change the value 101369 to anything else. Code samples would be generous and greatly appreciated. The sign up page is here temporarily hosted here http://seoul.directrouter.com/~dancker/?Itemid=82 My problem is the following. I have an editable <div>: <div class='edit' id='divContent' name='divContent' ContentEditable>some text</div> If I press 'enter' two lines are skipped. I know that if I press 'shift+enter' only one line will be skipped. If I check the unformatted code of the contenteditable div, 'enter' gives me <p> and 'shift+enter' gives me <br>, which makes sense because <p> is formatted differently than <br>. So I want to change 'enter' into 'shift+enter' I have already found something to capture and kill 'return' function killReturn() { key = event.keyCode; if (key == 13) return false; } But now for some means to replace the killed 'enter' with 'shift+enter'? Thanks a lot in advance for any advise! Hi I have a form setup so that when you enter something in a text field and click a button it checks to see if the value entered in the text field is the "correct" letter and if its right it changes the CSS property of a div container to be shown which then has a link to a the next question. So I don't really have a submit button because my form isn't setup to work with one. This is fine by me but the only problem is when you enter a letter and click enter it acts as a submit and the submit does nothing, which is what it's suppose to do. So what I'm asking is how can I get that button to respond to an enter instead of the default submit taking over the enter key? In this Form field, when I select the field box that shows "Enter Text" I'd like it so the text disappears, so I can begin typing in a cleared field box. This is the line of code, I believe, that has to do with that function. Any help with having the Enter Text clear upon selecting, will be appreciated: Code: <input autocomplete="off" id="keyword" name="keyword" value="Enter Text" onclick="clickclear(this, 'Enter Text')" onblur="clickrecall(this,'Enter Text')" /> Hi all, I'm designing something to addon to an existing product. I'm struggling with some javascript problems. I want to submit a hidden field when you click on an image button, rather than it being an actual submit button. It's going to submit the value "1" to a PHP page, but I don't want it to actually have to GO to the PHP page, just submit it within the webpage. Is this possible? Thanks I've literally tried everything. Read 26 tutorials, interchanged code, etc. My validation functions all work. My AJAX functions work (tested manually using servlet URL's). The second servlet validates the reCaptcha form that's generated on my webpage. After the form is validated, even if everything's correct, nothing happens upon clicking submit. I even have an alert pop up if with the captcha result, just for middle-layer debugging purposes. I want to do all of my validation clientside; none serverside. However, going to be tough if I can't get my god damn form to submit. I've been puzzled by this for close to 36 hours straight. I can't see, and I'm going to get some rest and hope that there is some useful insight on my problem when I return. html form: Code: <form id="f1" name="form1" onsubmit="validate_form(this); return false;" action="register" method="post"> <table cellspacing="5" style="border: 2px solid black;"> <tr> <td valign="top"> <table cellspacing="5"> <tr> <td>*First name</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_one"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="fn" name="fn" onBlur="validate_one();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*Last name</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_two"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="ln" name="ln" onBlur="validate_two();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*Email address</td> <td align="right"><span id="result"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="mailfield" name="email" onBlur="startRequest();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*Phone number</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_three"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="pn" name="pn" onBlur="validate_three();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*City/Town</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_four"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="c" name="c" onBlur="validate_four();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td></td> <td> <select name="s"> <option value="AL">Alabama <option value="AK">Alaska <option value="AZ">Arizona <option value="AR">Arkansas <option value="CA">California <option value="CO">Colorado <option value="CT">Connecticut <option value="DE">Delaware <option value="FL">Florida <option value="GA">Georgia <option value="HI">Hawaii <option value="ID">Idaho <option value="IL">Illinois <option value="IN">Indiana <option value="IA">Iowa <option value="KS">Kansas <option value="KY">Kentucky <option value="LA">Louisiana <option value="ME">Maine <option value="MD">Maryland <option value="MA">Massachusetts <option value="MI">Michigan <option value="MN">Minnesota <option value="MS">Mississippi <option value="MO">Missouri <option value="MT">Montana <option value="NE">Nebraska <option value="NV">Nevada <option value="NH">New Hampshire <option value="NJ">New Jersey <option value="NM">New Mexico <option value="NY">New York <option value="MC">North Carolina <option value="ND">North Dakota <option value="OH">Ohio <option value="OK">Oklahoma <option value="OR">Oregon <option value="PA">Pennsylvania <option value="RI">Rhode Island <option value="SC">South Carolina <option value="SD">South Dakota <option value="TN">Tennessee <option value="TX">Texas <option value="UT">Utah <option value="VT">Vermont <option value="VA">Virginia <option value="WA">Washington <option value="WV">West Virginia <option value="WI">Wisconsin <option value="WY">Wyoming </select> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <br> </td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td></td> <td><span id="error"></span></td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top">*Anti-Spam Verification</td> <td></td> <td id="reCaptcha"></td> </tr> </table> </td> <td valign="top"> <table cellspacing="5"> <tr> <td align="left">*Affiliation</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_five"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="affl" name="affl" onBlur="validate_five();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*Research Area:</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_six"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="ra" name="ra" onBlur="validate_six();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top" align="left">*Research Overview</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_seven"></span></td> <td><textarea cols="38" rows="6" id="ro" name="ro" onKeyDown="limitText(this.form.ro,this.form.countdown,500)" onKeyUp="limitText(this.form.ro,this.form.countdown,500)" onBlur="validate_seven();"></textarea></td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td></td> <td><font size="1">You have <input readonly type="text" name="countdown" size="1" value="500"> characters remaining.</font></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*Talk Availability</td> <td></td> <td> <input type="radio" name="ta" value="In person">In person <input type="radio" name="ta" value="Online">Online <input type="radio" name="ta" value="Both" checked>Both </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" valign="top">Links</td> <td></td> <td> <table id="linkTable" border="0"> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" name="link"></td> <td><div id="result"></div></td> </table> </td> <td align="left" valign="top"><input type="button" value="Add Link" onclick="addLink('linkTable')"></td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td><span style="color: red;"></span></td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> <br /> <input type="submit" id="submit" name="submit" value="Submit Form"> </form> Javascript file: Code: /* * script.js - ajax and table functions */ var xmlHttp; I was wondering what the best way is of using ajax to submit the page without the use of a submit button, and when the page submits, a message is displayed saying thank you for your booking. Thanks. I'm trying to submit a form without refreshing the page and I'm not having much luck. The form just resets and nothing is added to the database. The php script works fine as when I use form action - everything is added to the db. Here's the html form: Code: <div id="form"> <form method="post" action="" id="form"> <label for="sections" id="wybierz">Wybierz sekcje</label> <select id="sections" name="sections"> <option value="sekcjaA">Sekcja A</option> <option value="sekcjaB">Sekcja B</option> </select> <!-- Chose font & background color --> <label for="fontcolor1" id="colorsLabel">Wybierz kolor czcionki/ tla </label> <input class="color" id="fontcolor" name="fontColor" value="F0000F" /> <input class="color" id="bgcolor" name="bgcolor" value="ebebeb" /> <!-- Chose font --> <label for="font" id="choseFontLabel">Wybierz typ/ rozmiar czcionki<abbr title="Wybierz typ oraz rozmiar czcionki">(?)</abbr></label> <select id="font" name="font"> <option value="Arial" id="arial">Arial</option> <option value="Comic Sans Ms">Comic Sans MS</option> <option value="Courier New">Courier New</option> <option value="Georgia">Georgia</option> <option value="Impact" id="impact">Impact</option> <option value="Tahoma">Tahoma</option> <option value="Times New Roman">Times New Roman</option> <option value="Verdana">Verdana</option> <option value="Geneva">Geneva</option> <option value="Trebuchet MS">Trebuchet MS</option> </select> <!-- End chose font --> <!-- Chose font size --> <select id="fontSize" name="fontSize"> <option value="9">9px</option> <option value="10">10px</option> <option value="11">11px</option> <option value="12">12px</option> <option value="13">13px</option> <option value="14">14px</option> <option value="15">15px</option> <option value="16">16px</option> <option value="17">17px</option> <option value="18">18px</option> <option value="19">19px</option> <option value="20">20px</option> </select> <!-- End chose font size --> <!-- Chose line height --> <label for="lineHeight" id="lineHeightLabel">Wybierz wysokosc interlini/ odstep miedzy znakami</label> <select id="lineHeight" name="lineHeight"> <option value="8">8px</option> <option value="10">10px</option> <option value="11">11px</option> <option value="12">12px</option> <option value="13">13px</option> <option value="14">14px</option> <option value="15">15px</option> <option value="16">16px</option> <option value="17">17px</option> <option value="18">18px</option> <option value="19">19px</option> <option value="20">20px</option> <option value="21">21px</option> <option value="22">22px</option> <option value="23">23px</option> <option value="24">24px</option> <option value="25">25px</option> <option value="26">26px</option> <option value="27">27px</option> <option value="28">28px</option> <option value="29">29px</option> <option value="30">30px</option> </select> <!-- End chose line height --> <!-- Chose letter spacing --> <select id="letterSpacing" name="letterSpacing"> <option value="1">1px</option> <option value="2">2px</option> <option value="3">3px</option> <option value="4">4px</option> <option value="5">5px</option> <option value="6">6px</option> <option value="7">7px</option> <option value="8">8px</option> <option value="9">9px</option> <option value="10">10px</option> </select> <!-- End chose letter spacing --> <select id="fontStyle" name="fontStyle"> <option value="Normal">Normal</option> <option value="Italic">Italic</option> <option value="Bold">Bold</option> </select> <label for="tekst" id="wprowadz">Wprowadz tekst</label> <input type="button" value="PL" id="PL" onclick="readyTextPL();" /> <input type="button" value="ENG" id="ENG" onclick="readyTextENG();" /> <input type="button" value="Lorem..." id="lorem" onclick="readyTextLorem();" /> <textarea cols="45" rows="5" name="tekst" id="tekst" onclick="clearTextarea();"></textarea> <label for="add" id="addLabel">Dopisz <abbr title="Dopisz do wybranej sekcji">(?)</abbr></label> <input type="checkbox" value="Dodaj" id="add" /> <input type="button" value="Wykonaj" id="wykonaj" onclick="copyText();" /> <input type="button" value="Wyczysc Formularz" id="clear" onclick="clearAll();" /> <input type="submit" value="Zapisz" id="save" class="save" /> <span class="success" style="display:none"> Registration Successfully</span> </form> here's the script file I'm using: Code: // JavaScript Document $('.save').click(function(){ var sections = $('#sections').val(); var fontColor = $('#fontcolor').val(); var bgcolor = $('#bgcolor').val(); var font = $('#font').val(); var fontSize = $('#fontSize').val(); var lineHeight = $('#lineHeight').val(); var letterSpacing = $('#letterSpacing').val(); var fontStyle = $('#fontStyle').val(); //Datastring to pass through var dataString = 'sections=' + sections + '&fontColor' + fontColor + '&bgcolor' + bgcolor + '&font' + font + '&fontSize' + fontSize + '&lineHeight' + lineHeight + '&letterSpacing' + letterSpacing + '&fontStyle' + fontStyle; $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "update.php", data: dataString, success: function(){ $('#success').fadeIn(200).show();} }); }); any ideas what's wrong? the showUser function has ajax in it that calls a php file that accesses a db to perform some calculations. I wanted to use the clicked function to force required dropdowns to be selected but I cannot seem to get the submit button to do anything. It does nothing when you click it. Not sure how to proceed, have looked everywhere. If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. Bernard Ok - I'm using an 'off the peg' shopping cart (Mal's e-commerce) that posts items to the cart using a standard form with a submit button. What I want to do is send an item to the cart 'automatically', that is without the user actually filling a form or pressing a 'submit' button. What I send to the cart will be dependant upon the value of a cookie that will have been set at some earlier point in the session. My plan was to use document.write statements to build the 'form' and send it to the shopping cart... Here is the kind of form i will be creating: <form method="post" /> <input type="hidden" name="product" value="XXXXXXXX" /> <input type="hidden" name="price" value="0.00" /> <input type="hidden" name="qty" value="1" /> <input type="submit" value="add to basket" /> </form> 1) 1st problem the product value "XXXXXXXX" actually needs to be 'constructed' out of text plus the value held in the cookie eg... 'here is your COOKIEVALUE product' what i was going to try here was "here is your" + COOKIEVALUE + "product" which doesn't work - but that's what I'm trying to achieve. 2) 2nd problem is the submit 'button' needs to be an automatic 'invisible' action - i don't actually want to give them a button to click i just want to submit it from the coding. Hope that makes some kind of sense! |
