JavaScript - Javascript Function Running On Its Own
Hello
I am setting up a Javascript function in a page called functions.php function onAddBookmarkPressed() { <? mail("XXXXXXX", "Mail","Bookmark"); ?> } And calling it from another place within the page <div class="barstepimg"><img src="http://staggan.com/my_dir/images/progress_bar/fb_buttons/add_bookmark.gif" onclick="onAddBookmarkPressed();"/></div> I include functions.php in my index.php page... When I run the index.php page the function above runs and emails me... Any idea why? Similar TutorialsIs it possible to set onmouseover only in js file without running the function on html code? P.S. I found a coding thread here but I don't understand it and it's too old (2005 archive). Thank you very much I have changed my event listener around a bit. Basically the "compare_fields" function is running when the "load_doc" function is run. Here is my JavaScript: PHP Code: function load_doc(doc, parent) { document.getElementById(parent).innerHTML = "<h1>Loading...</h1>"; var http = getHTTPObject(); if (http != undefined) { http.onreadystatechange = function() { req_doc(doc, parent, http); }; http.open("GET", doc, true); http.send(""); } } function req_doc(doc, parent, req) { if (req.readyState == 4) {//only if req is loaded if (req.status == 200) {//And if its okay document.getElementById(parent).innerHTML = req.responseText; add_event_listeners(page) } else { document.getElementById(parent).innerHTML = "Error fetching data: " + req.status + "\n" + req.statusText; add_event_listeners(); } } } //Script used to hide elements. Usage: expand(element id) function expand(elm) { var ex = document.getElementById(elm).style.display; if (ex == "none") { var obj = document.getElementById(elm); obj.style.display = "inline"; } else if (ex == "inline") { var obj = document.getElementById(elm); obj.style.display = "none"; } } function check_database(obj) { //Not written yet } //Function to test the password validation, should rewrite in future //to make it multifunctional function compare_fields(obj) { alert("com"); var field2 = obj.split("_"); field2 = document.getElementById(field2[1]+"2"); if (obj == field2) { if (obj.length >= 4) { document.getElementById("pass_status").style.color = "#00CC00"; document.getElementById("pass_status").innerHTML = "OK!"; } else { document.getElementById("pass_status").innerHTML = "Please must be between 5 - 14 characters long! "; document.getElementById("pass_status").style.color = "#FF0000"; } } else { document.getElementById("pass_status").innerHTML = "Passwords do not match!"; document.getElementById("pass_status").style.color = "#FF0000"; } } Global JavaScript: PHP Code: //Get httpobject function getHTTPObject() { var http = false; if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { http = new XMLHttpRequest(); } else if (window.ActiveXObject) { http = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } return http; } //This function attaches events to elements. var addEvent = function( elm, evt, fun ) { if ( elm.addEventListener ) { elm.addEventListener( evt, fun, false ); } else if ( elm.attachEvent ) { elm.attachEvent( 'on' + evt, fun ); } else { elm [ 'on' + evt ] = fun; } }; Here is the first form, this contains the button: Code: <div style="border-color:#09C; border-width:1px; border-style:solid;"> <div class="register_button" onClick="load_doc('pages/forms/register_form.php', 'login_form')">Register</div> <h1>Login</h1> <h3>DrawSomething - WordGuesser</h3> <br /> <form id="login" action="php/check_login.php" method="post"> Username<br /><input type="text" name="username" class="text login_field"><br /> Password<br /><input type="password" name="password" class="text login_field"><br /> <input type="submit" value="Login" class="button blue" /> </form> <br /> <h2>Forgot Username/Password?</h2> <span class="expand" onClick="expand('forgot_p')"></span> <form class="forgot_p" action="php/forgot_p.php" method="post" style="display:none;" id="forgot_p"> Email<br /> <h3>Recover username</h3> <input type="text" name="forgot_email" class="text login_field"><br /> <span style=" font-weight:bold; font-size:21px;">- OR -</span><br /> Username<br /> <h3>Recover password</h3> <input type="text" name="forgot_password" class="text login_field"><br /> <input type="submit" value="Recover" class="button" /> </form> </div> Form which is loaded, this is when the "comare_fields" function is run when it shouldn't be. Edit: Oh and here is the PHP script which creates the event listeners. PHP Code: include "js/common.js"; include $js[$page]; //Write JS variables for event listeners $page_listeners = $listeners[$page]; //Check if there are some event listeners for this page if (count($page_listeners) > 0) { ///Start function echo "function add_event_listeners() { "; //Start loop to add event listeners for ($i = 0; $i < count($page_listeners); $i++) { $doc_elm = "document.getElementById('".$page_listeners[$i][1]."')"; echo "addEvent(\"document.getElementById('".$page_listeners[$i][0]."')\", \"".$page_listeners[$i][1]."\", ".$page_listeners[$i][2].");"."\n"; } //End function echo "}"; } Code that is written with the above PHP Code: function add_event_listeners() { addEvent("document.getElementById('reg_username')", "click", check_database); addEvent("document.getElementById('reg_email')", "click", check_database); addEvent("document.getElementById('reg_password')", "click", compare_fields('reg_password')); } And here are global PHP variables: PHP Code: <?php //Define page titles $titles = array( "login" => "Login - DrawSomething", "main" => "DrawSomething - Word Guesser", "admin" => "Administrator" ); //Require JavaScript files when onscreen HTML is selected $js = array( "login" => "js/login_js.js", "main" => "js/main_js.js", "admin" => "js/admin_js.js" ); //Pages to require $pages = array( "login" => "pages/login_page.php", "main" => "pages/main_page.php", "admin" => "pages/admin_page.php" ); //Event listeners to add $listeners = array( "login" => array(array("reg_username", "click", "check_database"), array("reg_email", "click", "check_database"), array("reg_password", "click", "compare_fields('reg_password')") ), ); ?> I have an external js file which contains the function which for now opens an alert box. The div on the page should run the function when it is clicked but it isn't. I have tried changing the function to an alert to check the click event is working and i have tried running the javascript in the address bar Code: javascript:hasFocus(); to ensure it has loaded correctly. Both are working fine and i am getting no errors. Below is a snippet of the code: Code: function hasFocus() { alert("a"); } Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" src="scripts/cms.js"></script> </head> <body> <div id="tab_panel"> <div id="tabs"></div> <div id="content" contenteditable="true" onclick="hasFocus();"></div> </div> </body> </html> Thanks in advance It would be great if anyone can help me with this list-scrolling animation problem. The animation works fine but I want another action to execute only after the animation finishes. Made several unsuccessful attempts, but here is the basic code. Code: function coreAnimate(obj, elm, begin, end, duration, fps) { if(!duration) duration = 1000; if(!fps) fps = 20; begin = parseFloat(begin); end = parseFloat(end); duration = parseFloat(duration); fps = parseFloat(fps); var change = end-begin; var interval = Math.ceil(1000/fps); var totalframes = Math.ceil(duration/interval); var step = change/totalframes; for(i = 1 ;i <= totalframes; i++) { (function() { var frame=i; function inner() { var increase = linearTween(frame, begin, change, totalframes); unit = 'px'; obj.style[elm] = increase+unit; }; timer = setTimeout(inner, interval*frame); }) (); }; }; function linearTween(t, b, c, d) { return c*t/d + b; }; Thanks, Chris How can I run function neutral() within function front()? Code: <SCRIPT type="text/javascript"> function neutral() { document.getElementById("front").style.color = "silver"; document.getElementById("front").style.cursor = "pointer"; document.getElementById("back").style.color = "silver"; document.getElementById("back").style.cursor = "pointer"; } function front() { / WILL RUN HERE document.getElementById("front").style.color = "rgb(255,215,0)"; document.getElementById("front").style.cursor = "text"; } </SCRIPT> I am trying to run javascript within Iframe and its not running. (The bigger pictu The final target is to do a file upload without refreshing the page, and the original code is using the iframe as the target of the form, and the return from the server is a javascript code that should update some status field on the page. However the code return from the server is not running, so I just paste it in the iframe and it is still not running. ) Code: Content-type: text/html\n\n <html> <script type="text/javascript"> alert("this is running") </script> <iframe id="upload_target" name="upload_target" src="#" style="width:100;height:100;border:0px solid #fff;"> <script type="text/javascript"> alert("this not running") </script> </iframe> </html> Hi, I have just started to learn Javascript which when loaded into a safari web browser of Firefox browser just simply displays the code. I am currently using a MacBook Leopard operating system I have saved the code (corrected for mistakes, many many times) to my desktop Run my usual browser safari (and tried same with Firefox) loaded the file and all I get is a copy of the code displayed in the browser window. Javascript is enabled for both Please can you suggest some options for me to try and get the code working. All I am doing in this example is copied from a book to turn the background colour of the browser RED Thanks Tom Hello Firstly, this is the full pastebin code of my admin page because i failed adding full code here correctly: http://pastebin.com/tQAaQjYC and the screenshot of the slide manager page: http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/4830/slidemanager.jpg Well, I have a Slide Manager as an admin menu page in Wordpress. When i click "Add new slide" button, as you see in the screenshot above, it adds a new "slide field" in which that dropdown list shows all titles of posts. (Ignore other parts as they work as expected) What i would like to do is, when i choose a post title, the text box which is next to dropdown to be populated automatically by the post's url adress. I want it to be worked for every "slide field" added via "Add new slide" button. I actually made it work that way outside the foreach: PHP Code: <script language="JavaScript"><!-- function onChange() { var Current = document.myform.link.selectedIndex; document.myform.currentText3.value = document.myform.link.options[Current].value; } //--> </script> <select name="link" onChange="onChange(this.value);"> <?php if($_POST['action'] == save ) { $selected = "selected"; } else{ $selected = ""; } echo '<option value="">...... Choose One ...... </option>'; $args = array( 'post_type' => 'post', 'nopaging' => true ); $the_query = new WP_Query( $args ); while ( $the_query->have_posts() ) : $the_query->the_post(); echo '<option '.$selected.' value="'.get_permalink( $post->ID ).'">'; the_title(); echo '</option>'; endwhile; ?> </select> <input name="currentText3" type="text" value=""> But when i add this after the opening code of foreach, i.e: PHP Code: <?php foreach($nivoslides as $k => $slide) : ?> Each slide field shows the dropdown and text box properly as you see in screenshot BUT none of them work. I tried to add brackets but it didn't work either: Code: <select name="link[]" onChange="onChange(this.value);"> I guess it's the javascript code that should be edited or entirely changed but i have no idea how to do it. I would be grateful for any help. Thanks in advance. I was debugging my code looking for a loop. So in the process I added a confirm request and if the user clicked cancel I coded location.replace("Kill.html"). Problem was that the JAVASCRIPT continued to run until either it finished or I used the Task Manager to end the session. There3 was a small difference in browsers: Firefox put up the new screen while continuing to run the JAVASCRIPT while IE didn't put up the new screen until after the JAVASCRIPT was finished. I could tell the JAVASCRIPT was still running because the confirm messages kept popping up.
So I wrote a script to slide various divs horizontally. It takes 2 seconds to start and then begins, sliding, then stops, then slides, until all four slides are shown, and the slides back to the first one. My issue is I have two buttons that should take over and kill the auto sliding. Also the script is giving me errors. That mastertimer, and loopertimer is not defined... Why is that? Here is the code Code: <script type="text/javascript">// <![CDATA[ function restartSlide(item){ item.style.left = parseInt(item.style.left) + 60 +'px'; var resetLooperSl = setTimeout(function(){restartSlide(item)},15); if(parseInt(item.style.left) >= 0){clearTimeout(resetLooperSl);return;} } function stopSlide(){ clearTimeout(loopTimer); } function animateSlide(element, limit, transition){ if(transition == "stop" && parseInt(element.style.left) > -2460){ limit = limit - 820; } else if(transition == "stop" && parseInt(element.style.left) <= -2460){ limit = limit + 820; stopSlide(); } element.style.left = parseInt(element.style.left) -20 + 'px'; if(parseInt(element.style.left)<= limit){ setTimeout(function(){animateSlide(element,limit,"stop")},4000); clearTimeout(MasterTimer); } var loopTimer = setTimeout(function(){animateSlide(element,limit,"flow")},15); } function autoSlide(){ var MasterTimer; var RestarterTime; var adContainer = document.getElementById('adwrap'); adContainer.style.left = '0px'; MasterTimer = setTimeout(function(){animateSlide(adContainer,0,"stop")},3000); RestarterTimer = setTimeout(function(){restartSlide(adContainer)},25000); } addEvent(window, 'load', autoSlide); function btnSlideNow(elem, incremental){ elem.style.left = parseInt(elem.style.left) + incremental + 'px'; setTimeout(function(){btnSlideNow(elem, incremental)},30) } function btnActions(elem){ var incremental; if(elem.id == 'btnAdLeft'){incremental = 30} else if(elem.id == 'btnAdRight'){incremental = -30} btnSlideNow(elem, incremental); } function adButtons(){ document.getElementById('btnAdLeft').onclick = function(){btnActions(this)} document.getElementById('btnAdRight').onclick = function(){btnActions(this)} } addEvent(window, 'load', adButtons); // ]]></script> Also I'd like to see how you experienced scripters would write this cleaner. I'd like to see that, as I am new to js. It would help me learn. thanks Hi all, I sincerely apologise for the noob question. I have search and searched for an answer but to no avail, so I hope someone on here can help. I'm trying to get a fisheye verticle menu working. I've found somethin which fits the requirement he http://zendold.lojcomm.com.br/ifisheye/ and tried to make it work. It just doesn't. I've tried different versions of mootools etc but I think I'm missing something really stupidky simple. I'd really appreciate it if someone could have a look at my temp page (http://www.parkerbs.com/home1.htm) and point me in the right direction. Many thanks in advance. Paul Hello I am relatively new to java script. The code I have behaves differently when I debug it and when I just run is straight. There are three functions that one another in a particular sequence. When I debug it they get called in the correct sequence but otherwise they get called in a constant but random pattern. I know I am missing basic understanding of javascript Can some body help please. Thanks in advance Output when I open the page in a browser without debug. Hi, I am facing a problem in passing replace() function as an argument in user defined java function, can any one help me how to resolve it? intention is to pass a file path to my user defined function, but before passing the path i want to replace the character '\' to '\\' I am posting my javascript function he <a href="#" onclick="OpenDocPreview('<%# Eval("PATH")%>'.replace(/\\/g,"\\\\"), '<%# Eval("Filename")%>')"><%# Eval("DocTitle") %></a> function OpenDocPreview(url, docname) { alert('message from search base : ' + url + ' ' + docname); } thank you, I am pretty novice. I do not know much about the compilers or how these things run. I do however have a good eye for trends and can figure just about anything out by looking at it. With that; I have a game that uses a exe launcher with a built in patcher. I have found the code for the launcher. There are several "jquery" scripts for basic components like scroll wheel. There are also things like "downloader.js", "inputs.js". I am interested in seeing what (and more precisely how many) ip addresses are being retrieved. I fear this patcher is using a hidden bittorrent like download system. The code for "downloader" is pretty basic. It clearly uses some other script, but I am wondering if you can point me in the direction of a utility to monitor running JS so that I can see what is being returned. Code: _Downloader = function() { this.downloadStatusCallback = null; } _Downloader.prototype = { setDownloadStatusCallback: function(callback) { this.downloadStatusCallback = callback; }, addDownload: function(downloadName, metaUrl, outputPath, authorizationURL) // returns bool { return document.SSNLauncher.SSNLauncher_ReturnBool('addDownload', 'string:' + downloadName + '|' + 'string:' + metaUrl + '|' + 'string:' + outputPath + '|' + 'string:' + authorizationURL + '|'); }, removeDownload: function(downloadName) // returns bool { return document.SSNLauncher.SSNLauncher_ReturnBool('removeDownload', 'string:' + downloadName + '|'); }, getDownloadOption: function(downloadName, optionName) // returns string { return document.SSNLauncher.SSNLauncher_ReturnString('getDownloadOption', 'string:' + downloadName + '|' + 'string:' + optionName + '|'); }, setDownloadOptions: function(downloadName, enableBitSources, enableWebSources) // returns bool { return document.SSNLauncher.SSNLauncher_ReturnBool('setDownloadOptions', 'string:' + downloadName + '|' + 'bool:' + enableBitSources + '|' + 'bool:' + enableWebSources + '|'); }, getDownloadActive: function(downloadName) // returns bool { return document.SSNLauncher.SSNLauncher_ReturnBool('getDownloadActive', 'string:' + downloadName + '|'); }, setDownloadActive: function(downloadName, active) // returns bool { return document.SSNLauncher.SSNLauncher_ReturnBool('setDownloadActive', 'string:' + downloadName + '|' + 'bool:' + active + '|'); } } function __Downloader_reportdownloadStatus(downloadName, state, active, totalBytes, bytesLeft, maxIncoming, averageIncoming, currentIncoming, maxOutgoing, averageOutgoing, currentOutgoing, bytesRead, bytesSent, scanBytesLeft) { if (SSN.Downloader.downloadStatusCallback != null) { SSN.Downloader.downloadStatusCallback(downloadName, state, active, totalBytes, bytesLeft, maxIncoming, averageIncoming, currentIncoming, maxOutgoing, averageOutgoing, currentOutgoing, bytesRead, bytesSent, scanBytesLeft); } } I have tried on several occasions to teach myself programing. I can get the commands and syntax fairly easily, and I am pretty good at 'coming up' with ways to get something done. I just don't have experience in this field (I'm in medical school) so I do not know about the tools and utilities programers use and scouring the internet has been less than fruitful. Anybody capable of pointing me in the direction of finding a utility to monitor running js (if that is even possible =/). I use dreamweaver CS5 to explore js code. How can I call a PHP Function inside a Javascript Function? This is what I have so far, but I don't think I'm doing it the right way. Any suggestions? PHP Code: <?php function phpQuery(){ $query = mysql_query("INSERT INTO mytable VALUES('','name','email')"); } ?> <script type="text/javascript"> function delayQueries() { timeoutID = window.setTimeout(doQueries, 2000); } function doQueries() { var runQuery = "<?php phpQuery(); ?>"; } </script> I made a mouseover event of a caption on a picture, when I hover the opacity of the background color of the hover and the text goes down. What I want is that when I hover over the image which the caption is floating on, the onmouseover event gets activite. For an imaginary example: Code: function unhighlight(x) { x.style.backgroundColor="transparent" } Function ActivationFuction() { activate.function="unhighlight" } thanks Hi everyone, I am pretty new at javascript OOP. I have a javascript file that has plenty of javascript functions, variables, arrays, etc. I need to convert this into an object. Here is an example: Code: var myvar1 = ''; var myvar2 = new array(); var myvar3 = new array(); var myvar4; var myvar5 = 60; var myvar6 = ''; function myfunc1(){ myvar1 = 'hello'; return myvar1; } function myfunc2(somenum=0){ myvar5 = somenum; //calling myfunc1() from within this function. //do something in here } function myfunc3(){ //calling myfunc1() from within this function. for(i=0;i<somelength;i++){ myvar2 = myvar3[i]; (something to put into the array) } } 1. I need to create an object and put ALL the varibles (myvar1 - myvar5) in that object. 2. Then the first two functions "myfunc1 and myfunc2" inside the same object. 2. And the function myfunc3 needs to sit OUTSIDE my object as a regular javascript function. It calls on myfunc1 (which is inside the object) and also inserts data into myvar2 (which is classified inside the object) and myvar3 (which is classified inside the object as well). This is what i came up with, but it's not going well: Code: var myobj1 = function(){ this.myvar1 = ''; this.myvar2 = new array(); this.myvar3 = new array(); this.myvar4; this.myvar5 = 60; this.myvar6 = ''; var myfunc1 = function(){ this.myvar1 = 'hello'; return this.myvar1; } var myfunc2 = function(somenum=0;){ this.myvar5 = somenum; //calling this.myfunc1() from within this function. //do something in here } } function myfunc3(){ //calling mynewobj.myfunc1() from within this function. for(i=0;i<somelength;i++){ mynewobj.myvar2 = mynewobj.myvar3[i]; (something to put into the array) } } var mynewobj = myobj1; HELP.....!!!! i really want to get into object oriented world, so thanks in advance. If I use function or Function to create a javascript function, does it make any difference ? Whats the difference between two and in which situation shall I use either ? Likewise whats the difference between event and Event objects of JavaScript ? Thanks Hi, I have a javascript code in my site which is similar to this: var menu1=new Array() menu1[0]='<hr style="color: \'#FFCC66\'; height: \'1\'; text-align: \'left\'; width: \'96%\'"><strong><font size=+2>text1</font></strong>' var menu2=new Array() menu2[0]='<hr style="color: \'#FFCC66\'; height: \'1\'; text-align: \'left\'; width: \'96%\'"><strong><font size=+2>text2</font></strong>' The list goes on for hunders of records. What I need to do, is to use a function in which I will pass the text1, text2, text3 as variables, and have the html code returned, since it's always the same. For example, I would need something like: var menu1=new Array() menu1[0]='display_html(text1)' var menu2=new Array() menu1[0]='display_html(text2)' This would save me a lot of bytes in the output file, but I'm not very familiar with javascript so I didn't manage to make it work. I tried using the document.write command in a function, but that forced the text to be displayed on my page, even though it was supposed to be shown only when the user clicks on a link. I'm using the "AnyLink Drop Down Menu" script from www.dynamicdrive.com. Any help would be highly appreciated! Hello, I have a php function PHP Code: function npclocs() { $npcl=$db->query("SELECT * FROM npclocation WHERE npclong < {$ir['userlongitute']}+5 AND npclong > {$ir['userlongitute']}-5 AND npclat > {$ir['userlatitude']}-5 AND npclat < {$ir['userlatitude']}+5 "); /*$npcarray = mysql_fetch_array($npcl);*/ $rows =0; while($row = $db->fetch_row($npcl)) { $nloc[]=$row; } foreach($nloc as $n) { echo "newpoints[" . $rows . "] = new Array(".$n['npclong'].", ".$n['npclat'].", ".$n['npciicon'].", ".$n['npclname'].", ".$n['npclname']."); "; $rows++; } } and I have a javascript function that I would like the results of this function to insert its results in the javascript here is the function in javascript Code: function addPoints() { //newpoints[0] = new Array(-73, 46, icon0, 'monroe', 'monroepopup'); //newpoints[1] = new Array(-69, 52, icon0, 'jackson', 'jacksonpopup'); //newpoints[2] = new Array(-45, 39, icon0, 'Benton', 'bentonpopup'); for(var i = 0; i < newpoints.length; i++) { var point = new GPoint(newpoints[i][1],newpoints[i][0]); var popuphtml = newpoints[i][4] ; var marker = createMarker(point,newpoints[i][2],popuphtml); map.addOverlay(marker); } } The commented out //newpoints is the old js array. my php function queries mysql and uses whiles and foreach to create the same output, as the old js array. I would like that php function result to insert its result into the js function. Is this possible? Thank you in advance. |
