JavaScript - Stop From Jumping To Top Of Page?
Is there anyway to stop the page 'jumping to the top' when using a link like the below?
Code: <a href="#" onClick="arrangeCards();">blah</a> .. I just want it to stay in the same position on the page & not jump to the top of the page every time a link like that is clicked. Cheers! Similar TutorialsHello all, I have a slight problem with a web page I have coded. I have created an image gallery, which uses a series of thumbnail images, displayed at the bottom of the page, with a space for a larger image in the centre of the page. When you click on the thumbnail images, a larger version of the thumbnail is displayed on the centre of the web page. Only thing is that each time you click the thumbnail, the web page scrolls up to the top, and hence you have to scroll back down again, to be able to click on the next thumbnail image. Is there a reason for this jumping page, and if so, how can I resolve it? The code I have used is as follows; <script> function showImage(imageName){ document.largePicture.src = imageName; } function thumb_description(description){ document.getElementById("thumb_desc").innerHTML=(description) } </script> <body> code for large center image: <div class="large_img"><img name="largePicture" src="lm_1.jpg" height="300" width="273" /></div> <br /> <p id="thumb_desc" class="name_desc"></p></td> code for small thumbnail image <a href="#" onclick="showImage('j_rosseau1.jpg');thumb_description('Jacqueline Rosseau Womenswear')"> <img src="j_rosseau1.jpg" height="100" width="108" /> </a> </body> Any tips, suggestions will be very helpful as the last thing I want is to annoy users with a hop-skip page!! Thanks very much in advance. Nonye I have a div which toggles visible, ie, it disappears when you click "close" with Code: <a href='#' onclick="toggle_visibility('div1'); toggle_visibility('div2'); return false;" >Close </a> which calls this: Code: function toggle_visibility(id) { var e = document.getElementById(id); if(e.style.display == 'block') e.style.display = 'none'; else e.style.display = 'block'; } The problem I have is that when I click that button, the page jumps down to center on exactly where I clicked. This is really unwanted, I was wondering if anyone could help? Thanks for your time. Hey all, so im working on a piece of jquery/JS which executes (drops down a new div) when you click a link. I have the links setup as <a href="#" id="d0">Execute 1</a> <a href="#" id="d1">Execute 2</a> <a href="#" id="d2">Execute 3</a> And the jscript detects when d0, d1 or d2 is clicked and executes my script. It all works perfectly, however when you click on a link it will jump to the top of the page as a side effect of the a href="#" I assume? Is there anyway to have my same effect work inline (without jumping the page to the top) ? Thank you very much! This is my test page: http://www.thesacstudio.com/ccid_web...ndex_copy.html Am using Dynamic Drive's smooth menu javascript When viewed on a PC using IR the menu makes the page "jump" i am a Mac guy and at my limit of what to do. thanks for any assistance Hi, I am using javascript function for refreshing html page. I have used [window.location.reload(true);] method to reload page from server. This code works if i use it by using Link/button etc. For Example: <input type="button" value="Refresh" onclick="window.location.reload(true);" /> But i want to refresh page when page loads. For Example: <body onload = "window.location.reload(true);> But this time, page reloads in an infinite loop. i don't know why... I have also used following function (against body onLoad) to reload and then stop, but this also does'nt work. function doLoad(){ var timeoutId = setTimeout( window.location.reload(true), 1000 ); window.clearTimeout(timeoutID); } Is there a way to stop reloading page after one refresh ? Thanks... when i click on submit button, all the data in form will be inserted into my db. but when i click on refresh the form will be submitted again .. how can i prevent this?
I'm attaching my php test file but this is a JS problem. When I scroll down in the web page and the meta refresh hits, in Windows Safari and IE6/7/8 browsers, the web page re-positions back to the top. In Opera and FF the page refreshes but it stays where it is. Can someone look at my test script and see why it is not working in IE and Win Safari? My goal is to have the web page not re-position to the top on the auto refresh. Thanks... hi everyone, Here's part of the codes I got from our website. Right now, when someone wants to register on our website, they have to put into the Captcha after they finish all the other information. If the captcha is empty, there would be an alert; if it's wrong, the page would be refreshed, and there would be another alert, and at the same time, all the information would be lost and they have to fill them again. Now the question is, how can I stop the page refreshing itself? All I need is an alert and then you could retype the captcha without losing the other information. Thank you in advance for your advice! <script type="text/javascript"> function ltrim(stringToTrim) { return stringToTrim.replace(/^\s+/,""); } function validateForm() { var okSoFar=true with (document.practitioner_profile) { if (firstname.value=="" && okSoFar) { okSoFar=false alert("Please enter your first name.") firstname.focus() } if (lastname.value=="" && okSoFar) { okSoFar=false alert("Please enter your last name.") lastname.focus() } //some other things here... if (verify_code.value=="" && okSoFar) { okSoFar=false alert("Please enter your security code.") verify_code.focus() } if (okSoFar==true) submit(); } } //here's the submit button in the html code, <div class="practsubmit"> <div class="signupform"><h4>* Security Code:</h4> <p>Please type in what you see in the box below and press submit. meaning the first tab is selected. Technically it works just fine but every time I click a tab it reloads the page and I'm not entirely sure how to stop this. I'm using a jquery plugin to handle the query strings. Here's the plugin. Here's the piece of the code that matters: Code: var url = location.search; var tab = $.query.get('t'); init(tab); function init(tab){ $("div.tab").hide(); //hides all the content boxes related to the tabs $("div#tab"+tab).fadeIn("fast"); //Shows the selected tab's content box setInactive(); //Styles unselected tabs setActive(tab); //Styles selected tab } Any help would be greatly appreciated. Probably a stupid noob question, is there any way I can stop document.write from outputting info to a new page I would prefer to have it shown in a textarea. Info from an array that is suppose to display in a text area when button is clicked and when another button is clicked it is suppose to show some other info. But what happens is the first info displays in textarea for a few seconds and then the second info is displayed but on a new page and not the textarea where I want it to go I have marked code within the code // I want this specific code to be displayed second but I know its in the wrong spot. Here is the code [CODE] function show() { var myArray = new Array(); myArray[0] = document.getElementById('fullname').value; ' myArray[1] = document.getElementById('address').value; myArray[2] = document.getElementById('phone').value; myArray[3] = document.getElementById('email').value; //Code I want to display second in the textarea //var string = myArray.join("\n") //document.getElementById('textarea').value = string; document.writeln('Thank you for registering,' + ' ' + myArray[0] + '. Your membership will be confirmed by E-mail to ' + myArray[2] + "<br>"); document.writeln('Registration Details:') document.writeln("<br>") for (var i=0; i<myArray.length; i++) { document.write(myArray[i] + "<br>"); } } [\CODE] Thanks in advance How do I stop the displaymessage function when i ==1 Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var i =0; function one() { document.getElementById('control').innerHTML = 1; i =document.getElementById('control').innerHTML; } function zero() { document.getElementById('control').innerHTML = 0; i =document.getElementById('control').innerHTML; } function displaymessage() //if (i==0)//this causes problems { alert("Hello World!"); } </script> <body onclick="javascript: displaymessage();"> <div id='control' onmouseover="javascript: one();" onmouseout="javascript: zero()">0</div> Hi Guys, Quick question, is there a way to stop a JavaScript from validating after a certain point of the code. I've been "googling" like crazy and cant find a solution. I had to add a Checkbox validation last second and there was existing validation and I'm not good enough to alter all of it to reflect the checkbox part so what I did was I checked to see if at least one of the checkboxes was selected, if yes, do nothing and finish the rest of the validation. If no, prompt them with an error. The problem is after it prompts them for an error, it continues to run the rest of the validation and at the end it allows the end user to print. I cannot allow the end user to print until everything is filled in. Here is my code: Code: function validateFields() { var fieldsToVerify = [ ["PrincipalInvestigator"], ["ContactEmailAddress"], ["RFAward"], ["Sponsor"], ["AwardTitle"], ["BudgetStartDate"], ["BudgetEndDate"], ["SectionII"], ["ProjectRole"], ["EmployeeName"], ["DatesofAppointment"], ["EffortonProject"], ["Date"], ["PrintName"], ["Date2"], ["PrintName2"], ]; var emptyFields = []; var notFullFields = []; for (var i=0; i<fieldsToVerify.length; i++) { var f = this.getField(fieldsToVerify[i][0]); if (f==null) { console.println(fieldsToVerify[i][0] + " not found."); continue; } if (f.valueAsString=="") { emptyFields.push(f.name); } else if (fieldsToVerify[i].length>1 && f.valueAsString.length<fieldsToVerify[i][1]) { notFullFields.push([f.name,fieldsToVerify[i][1]]); } } for (var i in nonRequiredFieldsToVerify) { var f = this.getField(nonRequiredFieldsToVerify[i]); if (f==null) { console.println(nonRequiredFieldsToVerify[i] + " not found."); continue; } if (f.valueAsString!="" && f.valueAsString.length<f.charLimit) { notFullFields.push([f.name,f.charLimit]); } } if (this.getField("CheckBox1").value=="Yes" || this.getField("CheckBox2").value=="Yes" || this.getField("CheckBox3").value=="Yes" || this.getField("CheckBox4").value=="Yes" || this.getField("CheckBox5").value=="Yes" || this.getField("CheckBox6").value=="Yes" || this.getField("CheckBox7").value=="Yes") {} else app.alert("Select a Checkbox in Section I before printing") if (emptyFields.length==0 && notFullFields.length==0) { this.print(); } else { var msg = ""; if (emptyFields.length>0) { msg += "The following fields must be filled-in:\n"; for (var i in emptyFields) msg += emptyFields[i]+"\n"; } if (notFullFields.length>0) { if (msg!="") msg+="\n\n"; msg += "The following fields are not filled-in completely:\n"; for (var i in notFullFields) msg += notFullFields[i][0] + " (required length: " + notFullFields[i][1] + ")\n"; } app.alert(msg,""); } } Code: function convertee(){ value = document.inputFormee.argument.value; if (isNaN(value)){ alert(value+' is not a valid entry'); return; } arg = (value/1.75975326); arg = (parseInt(arg*100)/100).toFixed(3); document.inputFormee.result.value = arg; } Any help much appreciated. My question is: if I press 'target1' it plays. When I press 'target2' second player plays in its div layer. How can I start one player while stopping another (I am guessing 'target1' must be hidden). I am going to have many mp3 files and I want each player to be in its rightful place. I've looked for functions, but I am not that experienced with JV syntax. Thank you.
