JavaScript - Calculations Based On User Input
Dear expert (Ok, i am new to this and should maybe not address this as a letter )
I hope someone can help me ... this is what i want to achieve (I am using frontpage) I want to create a table (this i can do!) that require a user input (number of guests). It then has SEVERAL options: - Select an option from a drop down list, and a price is then loaded from somewhere to create a total for that option and display it in the table (And keep that total for adding later) - Check a box, and if checked it creates a further calculation, displaying and storing the number for further calculation. a number of the above options, and a grand total on the bottom. I found more or less a page on a site that does what i am looking for, but after looking at the code, i have even LESS of an idea how it works Can someone PLEASE help me, or point me in the right direction? (I am not looking for someone to just write the code for me, as this will not teach me anything, and i want to learn) Below is a link to the example .. http://www.ouma-se-kombuis.co.za/test.html Thank you! Similar TutorialsHi there, I'll try to be brief: When a user submits a website in the input field on my site, I'd like there to be a background process that takes a screenshot of that website and then displays that image to the user. This website does it perfectly. The user writes the website to the right, and the screenshot is displayed to the left. I'm looking for a free alternative, and read that perhaps webkit(s) might be the solution? I'm a total newbie when it comes to this so any feedback is gold to me. Thank you so much guys/gals. So I am trying to make a form that will eventually take the user to a specified link. It is a form that uses drop down menus. I based this off of someone elses code (with permission ), but it shows everything <= user input. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make it only show only one of the next options. here is the JS code: Code: <script language="JavaScript"> function ShowMenu(num, menu, max) { for(i = 1999; i <= num; i++){ var menu2 = menu + i; document.getElementById(menu2).style.display = 'block'; } var num2 = num; num2++; while(num2 = max){ var menu3 = menu + num2; document.getElementById(menu3).style.display = 'none'; num2=num2+1; } } </script> This is only the JS code. I didn't want to waste space with the rest of the code. If you want to see it let me know and I can include that. I am sure this is rather basic, but my JS knowledge is less than that...It has been some time since undergrad computer science class. Thanks in advance for any help! Hello, I am trying to change the value of #name and #category inputs based on the value of select. A friend gave me the code below, but I can't get it to work. Thanks so much for your help Code: <script type="text/javascript"> $('#Gift_Type').change(function(){ if ($(this).val() == 'Monthly'){ $('#name').val('Partnership') $('#category').val('Partnership') } else { $('#name').val('Donation') $('#category').val('Donations') } }) </script> Code: <SELECT NAME="sub_frequency" ID="Gift_Type" onchange="OnSelectionChanged (this)"> <OPTION VALUE="1m">Monthly</OPTION> <OPTION VALUE="">One Time</OPTION> </SELECT> Code: <input type="text" id="name" name="name" value="Partnership" /> <input type="text" id="category" name="category" value="Partnership" /> I have a form which contains a few drop down lists. The contents of the dropdown lists are dependent on each other and are populated via php scripts which are called each time a selection is made or changed by the user. When the view results button is clicked in the form I need the user to be directed to a specific page based on the selections they have made. The url of the page they need to be directed to is really based on what has been chosen in the first dropdown. The subsequent dropdowns form variables that I need to be sent to the page so that the data the user sees on that page is relevant. ie if the user has chosen bikes then a specific manufacturer then a specific price range the page they will be sent to will be the bike.php page with all the manufacturer specific bikes in their chosen price range visible. Can anyone tell me the best way to go about doing this please? I had thought about using the php header script along with an if statement but how do I then go about getting the variables sent to the page to be recognised? Would I be better looking at the window.location in js to do this? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated on this. I can post the code for the form if that makes any difference. Hi all, I am trying to find out if it's possible to auto populate a text input based on the value of another. e.g. there is an input called name.. the user completes this and enters something like John, then in the same form there is another input called username. Once the person enters John in the name field, the username automatically displays John. I'm not sure how doable this is, I'm not very familar with Javascript, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Greens85 Ok I am very very new to java to the point where I only know how to use pre-made javascripts in my php code so be gentle. First, here is part of a form I have: Code: <select name = "pulmonologist" > <option selected="" value="">---Select--- <option value="none">None</option> <?php while ($row2 = mysql_fetch_assoc ($results2)) { ?><option value = "<?php echo $row2['staff_name'];?>"><?php echo $row2['staff_name'];?></option> <?php } ?> </select> Ok now I want to echo the value that the user selects on the SAME page (i.e. before the submit button is pressed) (so I can't do it with php, I need javascript) like this: Code: <input type="submit" value = "Contact <?php echo $pulmonologist;?>" /> Can you tell me how to do this? Thanks! Hi ya all, how can I show / hide the content of sub divs based on whether the input is != or = and be able to repeat this. I tried to hide the sub divs using , onclick if bla bla = '' ; Code: document.getElementById('hideme').innerHTML = ''; which works, but once I try to enter a new input, then nothing happens, even if the content of the sub divs is = input thx Hi Guys, I'm fairly new to Javascript and would be grateful for any help you can give me. I've had a search on Google and found a couple of potential solutions but nothing seems to work quite right for what I need. Basically I have a form with several questions followed by Yes/No radio buttons. Dependent on which answer is given, I want to display a different message above the text box. For example, if you answered 'no' to a certain question then the message above the text box would change to say "Please fill in additional information" or something along those lines. Below is the HTML to give you an idea of what I mean. Code: <table> <tr> <td> </td> <td><label class="bold">Yes</label></td> <td><label class="bold">No</label></td> </tr> <tr> <td><label for="property_q1"> - Is this your house?</label></td> <td><input name="property_q1" id="property_q1" type="radio" value="Yes" /></td> <td><input name="property_q1" id="property_q1" type="radio" value="No" /></td> </tr> </table> <br /> <div id="fine">It's fine, don't worry about filling it in.</div> <div id="fill" style="display:none">Please fill in the form below.</div> <table> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td><textarea name="info" id="info" cols="60" rows="5"></textarea></td> </tr> </table> <input type="submit" /> I have a registration form that I am working on in which I need to assign a price to each option in a selection box then write that price in the document. Then I have a radio button that will add (different amounts based on selection) to that price before it is written. Then I have another radio button that just needs to write a price based on its selection. Both of these values will be written and then totaled. (See below for a less confusing explanation) On HTML form: >drop down list (name courseName, value of selections 1,2,3,4) > radio button (name returnStudent, value of selections 1,2) > radio button (name bookNeeded, value of selections 1,2) Table (name totalprice) at the bottom of the form: price1: price of courseName plus returnStudent (td with name tuitionprice) price2: price of bookNeeded (td with name bookprice) Total of the above (td with name totalprice) This is what I am trying to make work... Code: var selectedCourse = document.onsiteRegistration.courseName.value; var selectedStudent = document.onsiteRegistration.returnStudent.value; function setTuition() { if (selectedCourse == "1" && selectedStudent =="1") { document.write("12345"); } if (selectedCourse == "1" && selectedStudent =="2") { document.write("54321"); } } Then in my HTML I have simply put this to call the function and write it where I need it to be placed. <script>setTuition()</script> I am trying to find some examples of something like this but all I am coming up with is shopping carts and that is not what I need here. I am fairly confident that I can program the second part (totaling) if I can only get the selections to populate the different prices for me. If someone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful! Hi, Please i am not getting clear understanding of a javascript code to redirect user to a different web page based on the day of the week. Please i have search for many script and not getting clear understanding from their code.I have also try several code myself but nothing good has come from it. Please can someone help me and write a descriptive code for me to understand better.I really plead you and your to help me...but i belief the Lord God will bless you for your time helping me. looking forward to here from you. Thank you. Clement Osei I'm trying to add a body class of 'day' if it's 6am-5pm and 'night' if it's 5pm-6am based on the user's local time. I tried the following but it didn't work. Any ideas? In the <head> Code: <script> function setTimesStyles() { var currentTime = new Date().getHours(); if(currentTime > 5 && currentTime < 17) { document.body.className = 'day'; } else { document.body.className = 'night'; } } </script> Code: <body onload="setTimeStyles();"> Also, is there a more elegant way to achieve what I need? I am facing an issue where a link on my website opens in a new window if you simply click on it. However, if you right click and say open in new window or new tab, it opens the same window (URL) again from where the link is clicked. Self Service Option is a link and the JSP calls a function getSelfServSite() when the link is clicked. This is how the code flows in my case function getSelfServSite() { getToTheLink("${myConfigInfo.selfServiceURL}"); // this is because the URL is configurable } function getToTheLink(url) { window.open (url, "currentWindow", ""); } What am I doing wrong. I want it to go to the right link no matter how the user click it. Please advise. Thanks Hello all, First off I would like to say a big hello and thank you to the forum for helping me with code over the years... I am trying to create an iframe with a user input, however, I dont simply want the iframe to display the URL the user has entered in the iframe. I want it to be used within a URL string. For example: The iframe should display http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=UserKeyword I havent got a clue where to start from.... Any help would be highly appreciated! Thanks! In a normal chatroom, when the user "says" something, the text will be displayed normally on a line with the date/time attached like the example below. 2011/11/09 Capypara: Blah balh blah I would like to make it so that the text typed in by the user will appear inside a graphic (square, or those chat bubbles) like the example below. The graphic will only appear when a user says something, so essentially both the graphic and the text will appear together. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | | | 2011/11/09 Capypara: Blah balh blah | | | ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Is it possible to go about doing this? Thanks for reading this. So I have been working on this exercise for about a month. In the book I am reading it say's this:"For each number that the user enters, the text boxes on the web page should display: the last score that was entered, the number of scores that have been entered, the total of these scores, the average score, the best score, and the worst score. When you write the code for this function, you should enclose the prompt method within a loop, but you decide which type of loop is best for this application. Now, write and test the code." The first peice of code is my HTML, and the second piece of code is the function that I have to start from in a .js file. I just seem to be confused at how my structuring needs to be. The 999 in the function is what the prompt says to enter to escape. Code: <body> <div id="content"> <h1>Using Loops</h1> <label for="lastScore">Last Sco </label> <input type="text" id="lastScore" /><br /> <p></p> <label for="scoreCount">Score Count:</label> <input type="text" id="scoreCount" /><br /> <label for="scoreTotal">Score Total:</label> <input type="text" id="scoreTotal" /><br /> <p></p> <label for="scoreAverage">Average Sco </label> <input type="text" id="scoreAverage" /><br /> <label for="bestScore">Best Sco </label> <input type="text" id="bestScore" /><br /> <label for="worstScore">Worst Sco </label> <input type="text" id="worstScore" /><br /> <p></p> </div> Code: var process_test_scores = function () { var testScore; testScore = parseInt(prompt( "Enter a valid test score between 0 and 100.\n" + "To end test score entry, enter 999.", 999)); } _________
Is there any possible way for JS to save changes that a user has made? my situation is that I'm a photographer who offers photobooks. My customers often have hundreds or thousands of photos and want captions on lots of them. I want to post a photo gallery with a user input form. I've created a simple form, but I want the user to be able to save comments straight to the gallery so I can look at them... it's only a very simple form and isn't quite finished yet, oh by the way, I'm not sure how to use the check box... but, i'll work on that. Code: <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> <title>Untitled Document</title> <style type="text/css"> <!-- #divWrapper { text-align: center; width: 430px; margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; } --> </style> </head> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> function picForm() { if(document.frmInput.addPic.value="yes") { document.frmOutput.outChoice.value="will" } else { document.frmOutput.outChoice.value="will NOT" } document.frmOutput.outCap.value=document.frmInput.addCap.value; document.frmOutput.outComm.value=document.frmInput.addComm.value; } </script> <div id="divWrapper"> <p>Uncheck the box if you do NOT want this photo to appear in your photobook. Please write your caption in the box provided. Any further comments you wish to make can be entered in the second box.</p> <div id="divInput"> <form name="frmInput"> <table id="tblForm" cellpadding="3px"> <tr> <td><input name="addPic" type="checkbox" value="yes"> Add to Photobook</td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td>Caption<br> <textarea name="addCap" cols="24" rows="3" value="...Add Caption Here..."></textarea></td> <td>Comments<br> <textarea name="addComm" cols="24" rows="3" value="...Add Comments Here..."></textarea></td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td><div align="right"> <input name="btnSubmit" type="button" value="Submit" onClick="picForm()" /> </div></td> </tr> </table> </form> </div> <div id="divOutput"> <form name="frmOutput"> <p>This photo <input name="outChoice" type="text" value="" size="7" style="border:0px" /> appear in your photo book.</p> <p>You would like the caption to read: <input name="outCap" type="text" value="" size="50" style="border:0px" /> </p> <p>Your comments to us a <input name="outComm" type="text" value="" size="50" style="border:0px" /> </p> </form> </div> </div> </body> </html> Please help! Hey, so i've been learning basics and I can get the following code to work as a prompt and I thought hey, I wounder if I can get it to work of a UI system, so I edited the code and got this Read Below Post Can you please help me to find where I am going wrong. Thanks MancunianMacca I apologize for all the text I'm about to type, but I just want to make sure I explain my problem in detail. So I have created a simple Weather Forecast algorithm containing the JavaScript code that uses a prompt to allow a user to enter a temperature in degrees Celsius, and based on the degrees entered (temperature scale is below), the program will display one of the following messages based on the selection structure I have created: (Kindly find attached .txt file of my entire code, I wasn't able to upload an HTML file.) -18 degrees Celsius: "Bundle up! It's freezing out there!" -18 - 0 degrees Celsius: "Pretty cold with a chance of snow!" 15 degrees Celsius: "Don't forget your jacket. It's still chilly out!" 16 - 27 degrees Celsius: "Perfect, lovely weather... unless it rains." 28 - 35 degrees Celsius: "Nice and warn. Go for a swim." 35 degrees Celsius: "Really hot! Best to stay in air conditioning." HELP Now i want improve on the same program and let the user enter the degrees in either unit using a prompt to ask the user whether the entry is Celsius(C) or Fahrenheit (F) (F scale is below) and use the correct degree breakdown to display the same messages: Less than 0 degrees Fahrenheit: "Bundle up! It's freezing out there!" 0 - 32 degrees Fahrenheit: "Pretty cold with a chance of snow!" 33 - 59 degrees Fahrenheit: "Don't forget your jacket. It's still chilly out!" 60 - 80 degrees Fahrenheit: "Perfect, lovely weather... unless it rains." 81 - 95 degrees Fahrenheit: " Nice and warn. Go for a swim." Greater than 95 degrees Fahrenheit: " Really hot! Best to stay in air conditioning." I'd appreciate if anyone can help me with this. Again, I've attached my original file where the user can only enter in degrees Celsius and gets the corresponding messages. I have tested it and it works perfectly. Attached Files hourlyForecast1.txt (954 Bytes, 24 views) Okay, so I've created a JavaScript form which allows the user to enter their name into the form and display it within the sentence, "Welcome to the site ______". It works on one page, but, problem is, I'd like it to be displayed on every page. I'm aware you cannot do this with getElementbyId (can only be used once), which is what I've used. I've tried using getElementsbyClass, but from my understanding, it's not as simple as that. Here's my code so far anyway: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function inputname(){ var userInput = document.getElementById('userInput').value; document.getElementById('welcome').innerHTML = userInput; } </script> Code: <p>Welcome to the site <b id='welcome'></b> </p> <input type='text' id='userInput' /> <input type='button' onclick='inputname()' value='Enter Name'/> |
