All i want to do is simply read from a text file. Thanks I followed the tutorial below and got my image fade to work: http://clagnut.com/sandbox/imagefades/ Now I want to have text become visible once the fade is done. I can't get it to work. style portion: .enhanced { visibility:hidden; } javascript functions: <script language="javascript"> document.write("<style type='text/css'> ##thephoto {visibility:hidden;} </style>"); window.onload = function() {initImage()}; function initImage() { imageId = 'thephoto'; image = document.getElementById(imageId); setOpacity(image, 0); image.style.visibility = 'visible'; fadeIn(imageId,0); } function setOpacity(obj, opacity) { opacity = (opacity == 100)?99.999pacity; // IE/Win obj.style.filter = "alpha(opacity:"+opacity+")"; // Safari<1.2, Konqueror obj.style.KHTMLOpacity = opacity/100; // Older Mozilla and Firefox obj.style.MozOpacity = opacity/100; // Safari 1.2, newer Firefox and Mozilla, CSS3 obj.style.opacity = opacity/100; } function fadeIn(objId,opacity) { if (document.getElementById) { obj = document.getElementById(objId); if (opacity <= 100) { setOpacity(obj, opacity); opacity += 10; window.setTimeout("fadeIn('"+objId+"',"+opacity+")", 150); } if (opacity = 100) { textId = 'enhanced'; text = document.getElementById(textId); text.style.visibility="visible"; } } } </script> I have added this to the last function: if (opacity = 100) { textId = 'enhanced'; text = document.getElementById(textId); text.style.visibility="visible"; } But the text appears instantly. Apologies if this question has been asked a million times. I am fairly new to this game, have got my head around html & css and now it's time to add a little interactivity... BUT i've hit my first brick wall... I am setting up a (big) panel of text which i wish to present in a more reasonable fashion by hiding the content and only showing the headers. Got the Hide:Show function working ok as shown below, but I am stuck on my next requirement... I have: Header1 (on click) | bodycopy - visible Header2 | bodycopy - hidden leading to: Header1 | bodycopy - visible Header2 (on click) | bodycopy - visible But i'm after: Header1 (on click) | bodycopy - visible Header2 | bodycopy - hidden leading to: Header1 | bodycopy - hidden Header2 (on click) | bodycopy - visible Here is the code i'm using: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> <title>Untitled Document</title> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- function toggle_visibility(id) { var e = document.getElementById(id); if(e.style.display == 'block') e.style.display = 'none'; else e.style.display = 'block'; } //--> </script> <style type="text/css"> <!-- #slide_text1 { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 0.8em; line-height: 1.4em; color: #000; margin-bottom: 15px; } #slide_text2 { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 0.8em; line-height: 1.4em; color: #000; margin-bottom: 15px; } .h3_toggle { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 1em; line-height: 1.2em; color: #999; text-decoration: none;} .h3_toggle:hover { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 1em; line-height: 1.2em; color: #333; text-decoration: none; cursor: crosshair; } --> </style> </head> <body> <h3><a class="h3_toggle" onclick="toggle_visibility('slide_text1');">First heading </a> </h3> <div style="display:none;"" id="slide_text1">Body copy content to be hidden lives in this area</div> <h3><a class="h3_toggle" onclick="toggle_visibility('slide_text2');">Second heading</a> </h3> <div style="display:none;"" id="slide_text2">Body copy content to be hidden lives in this area</div> </body> </html> Any help from you all is very much welcome (or if this has been answer before - a nudge in the direction of the answer please) Thanx, Ozwaldo. So, I do this <script type="text/javascript"> t = setInterval("CHECKFILE()",5000); </script> This calls the CHECKFILE function every 5000ms <script type="text/javascript"> function CHECKFILE(){ } </script> How, in the CHECKFILE function can I read from a file called FILE.txt for example?? In PHP I can use $myFile = "FILE.txt"; $theData = file($myFile); And this gives me an array, with each element containing one line from the file Can I do similar in Javascript? Or can I add PHP into the JS to do it for me? I have tried to return a boolean, a string and a number to use a decision variable... Can one of you look at the code below and tell me what I am missing? What is desired is to be able to have this portlet access a stored text file (file can be edited so content is subject to change) that will have all the information needed for these announcements. The JavaScript will then write it into a html file. I am a novice at html, and javascript; and i was hoping that if anyone had any advice, ideas, or a helpful link that could point me in the right direction I would much appreciate it. I need to make a javascript that when I am at a page within a game I play and click the javascript, it will get the value of a table cell, separate them to x and y variables and then put the values into a link that opens. The open link is of a php script that uses $_GET for the values of the variables to query my database. I am terrible at javascript and have been trying to do this for 2 days now with no success. So I hope I can find help here. Here's the scripts so it is easier to understand: This is part of the html page that is from the game. I have the code I think is right but it is not showing up in my browser when run. Any ideas? Also are there any other ways to read in an xml file using javascript? please list if so. Hi All, I'm writing this post as there are alot of questions about Cross Domain AJAX request so i'm going to give an overview of the different ways and the best practices Ok so there are 2 systems for this the key difference is how much control you have. If you control the Requested site you can use Javascript Safe calling to that server, this is all done via a few Headers so to do this all you have to do is send some headers from the page your requesting. The first is tell the browser that the site the AJAX call is coming from is allowed this is done with "Access-Control-Allow-Origin: " Now this can be set to a wild card and allow all sites to access the page "Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *" Or you can say only a set server can "Access-Control-Allow-Origin: mydomain.com" This header allows GET requests but what if you need to post data to the site well you need to tell the browser that POST data is allowed to be sent Access-Control-Allow-Headers: GET,POST Now we run into the problem that sending post data the browser will send the header Content-Type but your server has not told the browser its allowed to send that header so Access-Control-Allow-Methods: Content-Type Will allow the header to be sent if you wish to send any other custom headers you have to make your server tell the browser its allowed to send them this is done by adding them as a comma delimited list via the "Access-Control-Allow-Headers" header Now if you dont have control well then your back to using a script that is local to the AJAX script then sending the data via cURL or another connection method to the remote server Please note i will be uploading examples in php later. Example Scripts Remote Server PHP Code: header("Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *"); header("Access-Control-Allow-Headers: GET,POST"); header("Access-Control-Allow-Methods: Content-Type"); $output = array( 'response' => 'hello world!', '_GET' => $_GET, '_POST' => $_POST, ); echo json_encode($output); Client Script -- please note built for Google Chrome PHP Code: var getExample = new XMLHttpRequest(); getExample.open("GET", "http://www.test.com/remote.php?test=set", true); getExample.onreadystatechange = function(requestHandle){ console.debug(requestHandle); } getExample.send(null); var postExample = new XMLHttpRequest(); postExample.open("POST", "http://www.test.com/remote.php?test=set", true); postExample.onreadystatechange = function(requestHandle){ console.debug(requestHandle); } postExample.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "x-www-urlencoded-data");// this is sent to prevent the requested server not saving post data postExample.send("?set=test"); If you are unable to Edit files on the remote server you can use the link provided by Kor http://www.troywolf.com/articles/ This will give you all the information you require to use php to talk to the remote server (basic proxy in effect) Hello, I am trying to retrieve a cookie I stored with Perl through javascript. Based on the contents of the cookie, I want the javascript to print/not print an extra link on my page. Below is the code, in Perl, I am using to store the cookie. In the Perl forum I was told to post in here for the javascript help. The basic idea is that if the cookie has a "Role" of "Super," the ADMIN link displays on the page. If the role doesn't have "Super," the link is hidden. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot. But using "listen" "speak" "write" etc. works OK. Code: else if (lessonnum == "reading"){ // oddly, "read" as cookie value fails. Why? so.addVariable('file','/images/101online/Introduction/readsubtest/audioRead.mp3'); } I had to change it to "reading". Is this normal? Is there a place where I can find all the reserved values that won't work as cookie drops? Hi, i have a question, is JavaScript can read an external file? i have an ear file, can it read external file without the external file compile together in the ear file? can we do so? |
