JavaScript - Force Browser Window To Open Full Screen
I have an emagazine i want to add to my website, the probelm is when it opens in a browser you have to sroll down the page, to view it all, what i was wondering is, is it possibe to create a link that when somebody selects to view the magazine it forces the browser to openin full screen mode so that it fits niely on the screen without the toolbars and evertything taking up half the page.
Thanks Similar TutorialsHi: The code below, partly suggested by Old Pedant, will open the radio button PDF file, but it will take up the entire screen. Is it possible to open the checked PDF file in a slightly smaller screen so that the user, when finished with the PDF file, can always be sure that he/she is closing only the PDF file and not the browser? I'm trying to use the showDetails() to do this, but am having two problems: 1) where in the <body> should this function be "called", and 2) how does one get a file name into the first parameter of window.open when the name of the file is not known until the user has checked one of the several choices? Or is it the Foxit and Adobe Readers that govern the screen size of the PDF files, and not Javascript? Thanks for any help and pointing me in the right direction. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <title>Open smaller PDF window.html</title> <script type="text/javascript"> function goToCheckedValue ( rbs ) //courtesy of Old Pedant { var go = null; if (rbs.length == null ) { if (rbs.checked ) go = rbs.value; } else { for (var r = 0; r < rbs.length; ++r ) { if (rbs[r].checked ) go = rbs [r].value; } } if ( go == null ) return; location.href = go; } var detailsWindow; function showDetails() { //leave filename parameter blank detailsWindow = window.open("","", "width=500,height=350"); detailsWindow.focus(); } </script> </head> <body> <form name="myForm"> <fieldset id="pdfchoices"> <input type="radio" name="gmplitword" value="11.pdf" checked="checked" /> Gospel Acclamation <br /> <input type="radio" name="gmplitword" value="15.pdf" /> Gospel Acclamation - Lent <br /> <input type="radio" name="gmplitword" value="16.pdf" /> Gospel Acclamation - Paschal time <br /> <input type="radio" name="gmplitword" value="23.pdf" /> Apostles' Creed (IV) <br /> <br /> <input type="button" value="Open PDF file" onclick="goToCheckedValue(this.form.gmplitword)" /> </fieldset> </form> </body> </html> I have following JavaScript code, aim to open full window. We have a scenario to launch a new browser window for a given HTML. I have the following approaches : Approach 1: my_window = window.open("", "report"); my_window.document.open(); my_window.document.write("<HTML> <BODY> HI </BODY></HTML>"); my_window.document.close(); Approach 2: var newWindow = window.open("", "report"); newWindow.document.body.innerHTML = "<HTML> <BODY> HI </BODY></HTML>"; Could anyone sugges Which is the correct approach ? Our requirement is to have this code to work in any browser? Thanks Hello all,I have a website and I would like a pop-up window to promote a new website venture I have. I would like for the new website to open in a completely new window/browser when my members simply click on the index page (No link or Buttons). The code below does most of what I ask lol,but it.. 1.Only opens in a new tab (in same browser) while I would like for it to open in a completely new browser "full page" menu bar scroll tab and all. plus 2.It seems to open each and every time the page is clicked, which will be annoying to my members.I would only like for it to open 1 time per visitor every 24 hours or whenever cookies are cleared. Code: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function click_on() { window.open("URL HERE", "_blank"); } </script> </head> <body onclick="click_on()"> </body> </html> I am no expert at this, and my knowledge is very limited,so excuse me if this is a simple situation.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Roco Let me start of by saying that I'm a designer, not a programmer so I'll apologize in advance for having very little knowledge of javascript. I found a free script for a auto-advancing slideshow that allows you to give each image in the slideshow a unique link. My problem is that when you click on one of the pictures the link opens in a new window instead of loading in the default browser window. I have tried to search google for an answer but my lack of javascript knowledge has left me scratching my chin. Here's the code in the head of my page: Code: <script language="JavaScript1.1"> <!-- /* JavaScript Image slideshow */ var slideimages=new Array() var slidelinks=new Array() function slideshowimages(){ for (i=0;i<slideshowimages.arguments.length;i++){ slideimages[i]=new Image() slideimages[i].src=slideshowimages.arguments[i] } } function slideshowlinks(){ for (i=0;i<slideshowlinks.arguments.length;i++) slidelinks[i]=slideshowlinks.arguments[i] } function gotoshow(){ if (!window.winslide||winslide.closed) winslide=window.open(slidelinks[whichlink]) else winslide.location=slidelinks[whichlink] winslide.focus() } //--> </script> and here's the Body code: Code: <script> <!-- //configure the paths of the images, plus corresponding target links slideshowimages("images/services/3d_meter.jpg", "images/services/3d_prototype.jpg", "images/services/3d_stage_renderings.jpg", "images/services/atsite.jpg", "images/services/netstar.jpg", "images/services/photo_manipulation.jpg", "images/services/powerpoint.jpg") slideshowlinks("/", "/", "/", "/", "/", "/", "/") //configure the speed of the slideshow, in miliseconds var slideshowspeed=8000 var whichlink=0 var whichimage=0 function slideit(){ if (!document.images) return document.images.slide.src=slideimages[whichimage].src whichlink=whichimage if (whichimage<slideimages.length-1) whichimage++ else whichimage=0 setTimeout("slideit()",slideshowspeed) } slideit() //--> </script> fooling around with it, I think I have determined that my problem is the window.open in the function gotoshow, but again, I'm a designer who has little knowledge of how this actually works. If it helps, here is a link to my site where I have the slideshow, http://gravescreativedesign.com/services.html All of the images link to the index page for my site at the moment for testing purposes, but these images will eventually link to different urls within my portfolio section of my website. Hi All, I'm working on a javascript-only application that queries an in-memory database, at times requests (all internal to the JS app) are lengthy, so I need to post a "Processing..." overlay atop the clicked UI tab to provide user feedback that something is actually happening. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to push the "Processing..." content to the screen while the DB lookup is underway. It appears that there's only one shot at updating the display, and that's when all JS processing has concluded (ie, the data has been looked up and is displayed). Any tips would be greatly appreciated, what I wish to do may not be possible? Thanks in advance for your assistance! JD Hi guys, I'm completely new here and seeking some help on this js: http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/...ow/index.shtml i'm building my picture website, an example is this one: http://www.lucagodina.com/mello/test.htm do you know how can i have all the thumbnails on the same row, and scrolling? because if i've let's say 100 pictures, the thumbnails will cover the pics itself! Would also be great to have play-next-previous button... i know i'm asking a lot! hope someone can help me out! This is a search box that I can add to my site. However, it stretches to the full width of the screen. Is there any way I can get it to reduce in width to about 25%? Code: <!-- place this javascript fragment in your page where you want the nhs evidence search panel to appear --> <script type="text/javascript"> var _nhsesp_unique_id='b7130ea1-a037-4c09-85d9-e4341d8ad58b'; var _nhsesp_base_uri=("https:"==document.location.protocol?"https://":"http://")+'www.evidence.nhs.uk'; document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='"+_nhsesp_base_uri+"/evidence-search-panel-1.1.js' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E")); </script> <!-- end of evidence search panel script --> Cheers Daniel. There is a stand-alone, full-screen slide show code published at http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/...ow/index.shtml I would like to know how to set the size of the show to less than full-screen, and how to integrate the show with other web content. Dear Experts, I am very new for javascript so I am not even sure it is possible or not. The situation is like this, I have a page, which is actually a photo gallery with a table having 3 rows. First row shows the full screen size pic. Second row displays the Caption of that image and third row shows thumbnail view of six different images and the previous and next button. this is the sample layout: <table> <tr> <td colspan=8> Full size image will be shown in this cell </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan=8> Caption of the image will be displayed here </td> </tr> <tr> <td>Previous Button</td> <td>Pic1 thumbnail view</td><td>Pic2 thumbnail view</td><td>Pic3 thumbnail view</td> <td>Pic4 thumbnail view</td><td>Pic5 thumbnail view</td><td>Pic6 thumbnail view</td> <td>Next Button</td> </td> </tr> My requirement is whenever the user click on the thumbnail view, which is in the 3rd row, the corresponding full screen size pic should open in 1st row of the table. As my photo gallery should be having more than 6 pics, lets take 20 pics, I want to show only 6 thumbnails in 3rd row at a time. Whenever user press "Next" button the 3rd row having 6 thumbnails should show other 6 thumbnails and previous button should show previous 6 thumbnails. I have a guess that it can be done using arrays, but how????? I have no idea. So please if you have any guesses it will be nice if you can post the entire code here as I will not be in a position to work on the hints given by you. Thanks in advance. Charles Hi, I am new here, it's nice to meet you guys. I am writting a javascript that need to force the user to close the current browser and then restart automatically again after some operation. Here is the case : The user will retrieve a file from the server and save it in the local drive. After that, the browser will automatically open the .pdf saved with the browser(IE) but not Adode reader. If the user wants to update the previous saved .pdf in the local drive, they will need the user to close the opened file(saved .pdf) so that new updated .pdf can be replaced to the old .pdf file. So, I need to implement a function that force the browser to close, then copy and replace the old file, then reopen the file(new and updated) again. Is there any possible way of doing this ? Please provide me some idea. I have tried to look for informations online but I just got no luck. Failed with the coding provided. Thanks in advance. P/S : The file need to be closed in order to replace it with a new one. The platform using is Windows. window.open() doesn't open an entirely new window in FF3.6, just a new tab suggestions? Edit: Yeah, ok, so if i specify a size smaller than the current standard window, it'll be forced to open a new window. but what if i want a new standard sized window to open entirely? and in any case, i wan t amore direct solution where possible, thanks. I am using a window.open to trigger a mailto: command. I don't want the window to stay open so I try to close it right after. The default email client launches correctly, but the window stays open and I get the following Javascript error: Unable to get value of the property 'close': object is null or undefined Code: Code: var win = window.open(mailto_link,'emailWindow'); win.close(); I do write some php, but have not much idea about JavaScript. I use window.open to open 10 pages simultaneously. I prefer to open them with a time delay from each other to put less load on the target server. This is my code with no delay. (I played around with setTimeout but can't get it to work.) PHP Code: <a href='http://www.".$new[9]."' onclick="window.open('http://www.".$new[0]."/'); window.open('http://www.".$new[1]."/'); window.open('http://www.".$new[2]."/'); window.open('http://www.".$new[3]."/'); window.open('http://www.".$new[4]."/'); window.open('http://www.".$new[5]."/'); window.open('http://www.".$new[6]."/'); window.open('http://www.".$new[7]."/'); window.open('http://www.".$new[8]."/')\" target='new300/'>Open 10</a> OK, new to the boards. I prefer jQuery over flash and not sure how to tackle this, so please advise as best you can. Trying to create a site that allows for images to go full browser and then have the ability to have the other images slide in based on a click. I also want to float a menu that will allow it to pull in other media (video, that would slide in the same way). The best example I can share is this: http://j.mp/5U79i1 What he is using is flash based (slideshowpro director and slideshow pro for flash). Not interested in flash for this personal project. Any advice would be hugely appreciated. thanks in advance. I am looking to have a link open a closeable window that is contained within a browser window. If you click on the "sizing charts" link on this website, this is exactly what I am looking to do: http://www.bella.com/mapper.php?pageid=40 The window is contained within the current browser window, it can be dragged around, but not outside the parameters of the browser window. Is there a title for this technique that I can research? Not looking to waste anybodys time, but if I can get steered in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |
