JavaScript - Dynamic Menu To Display Diferent Divs
Well i want to implement something very similar to this (youtube).
My javascript knowledges are low. I think it has something to be with onload and onclick events with links. Do i have to write a function and include it on the html page? Where do i have to put the diferent contents? I would prefer to separate html content and javascript since i have some variable to display from my template engine like {$name}, {$uploaded_date}, etc. Thanks in advance Similar TutorialsI need help with my divs and dynamic content. I would like my "menu" div (which includes a menu.html and menu.css file) to link to my "middle" div. Here is what I would like to accomplish: Screenshot And this is what I've got: My website I'm using this code to implement my pages into the "middle" div. Is there a way to target my "middle" div from an external menu.html page? Or is there a better way to do this? I'm working on my portfolio and I want to get content to load into my "middle" div upon clicking on the buttons in the sidebar. I'm able to get it to load, but I can't figure out how to get the CSS to load. I keep getting errors in the code. Here is the code I'm using: http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamici...jaxcontent.htm Here is what I've got: Code: <img src="images/rule.png" id="rule" width="1" height="1" /> <a href="javascript:ajaxpage('about.html', 'middle');"><img src="images/about.png" width="195" height="101" alt="about" /></a> <img src="images/rule.png" id="sidebar_rule" width="194" height="1" /> <a href="javascript:ajaxpage('work.html', 'middle');"><img src="images/work.png" width="195" height="101" alt="work" /> <img src="images/rule.png" id="sidebar_rule" width="194" height="1" /> <img src="images/resume.png" width="195" height="101" alt="resume" /> <img src="images/rule.png" id="sidebar_rule" width="194" height="1" /> <a href="javascript:ajaxpage('contact.html', 'middle'); loadobjs('contact.css', 'feature.js')"><img src="images/contact.png" width="195" height="101" alt="contact" /></a> <img src="images/rule.png" id="sidebar_rule" width="194" height="1" /></div> I'm working on the contact page right now, just trying to figure out how to get it to load properly. Here is a screenshot of what it's supposed to look like: https://skitch.com/jillianadriana/r7...itled-document I can't get it to load with the custom CSS. Hello, i got a problem with my following js-script. Sorry I'm a noob. I want to display several divs with math.random. 12 divs are in an array, after this I place 6 of them randomly in another array and want to display them. But it doesnt happen and I dont know why . Here is my script: Code: <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> .hidden{display:none;} </style> <script type="text/javascript"> window.onload = function () { var domelem = document.getElementById("wrap").getElementsByTagName("div"); var studis = []; for(var i =0; i < domelem.length; i++) { studis[i] = domelem[i]; } var a = []; while(a.length <= 5) { var spliced = studis.splice(Math.floor(Math.random()*studis.length), 1); a.push(spliced); } for (var i = 0; i < a.length; i++){ a[i].style.display = 'block'; } } </script> </head> <body> <div id="wrap"> <div class="hidden">content</div> <div class="hidden">content</div> <div class="hidden">content</div> <div class="hidden">content</div> <div class="hidden">content</div> ........ </div> The Problem is, that the divs are not displayed. I thought it was correct to do it like this. Please can anybody help, I dont know what to do. I would be very grateful. I have an essoteric question about javascript and how DOM/javascript stores divs that are created and displayed in succession by absolute positioning. I have a series of divs that are assigned absolute top and left values to form a grid. The grid tiles are programmed to swap coordinates in pairs when one of the pairs is clicked. Then if I do a sampling of the divs by: Code: //returns the same string on every call. //regardless of the coordinate values. which change var GM = document.getElementById('TP'); if(GM.hasChildNodes) { var GMC = GM.getElementsByTagName('div'); var str = ''; for(i = 0; i < GMC.length; i++) { if(GMC[i].hasChildNodes) { for(var j = 0; j < GMC[i].childNodes.length; j++) { var gmc = GMC[i].childNodes[j]; var gmcTxt = gmc.childNodes[0].data; str += gmcTxt; } } } } alert(str); The list does not represent the positions of the divs as they appear in the browser, but in a sequence that is saved in another array when the divs are created. The same is true for document.getElementById('[id assigned each div]') The only way to detect the sequence is to do a long drawn out loop looking for coordinate values, and comparing them to a prestablish template set of values, then looping back through to compare the contents of each div and decide if they are in the right place (visually). The problem is that some divs may have the same content. If the same content appears to be in the right place, the coordinates can be wrong. So I need to detect the content and decide if it is right, regard- less of the coordinates. This has to be done by the program (of course). So the question is: What is javascript doing when it is asked to Code: document.getElementByTagName('[elem]'); In this case are the divs children of the document? (in the case of my project, children of a container div) And why would they not be detected in the order apparent in the browser window? I will post the current version and return and post a reply with the url. http://www.jekillen.com/jekillen/con..._wise_dev.html Hi, I have 3 selects in a form for day, month and year for the user to enter his/her birthday. I have been searching everywhere and have found a few of articles available regarding dropdown menu.. couldnt get exactly what i wanted.. i am not really good at javascript, or even programing..am trying my best. anyway~ Here is what i want. something simple if there is more than 1 data entity (count>1) (Case 1), then execute 'select(drop down)' else (count <=1)(Case 2), then just show the data entity itself. (i dun even want the dropdown box to appear) as below screenshot or the attachment I have a script getting me the dropdown menu as below, i wanna modify this but not sure where to start... -------------------------------- <div id="abcdefg"> <form id="setLanguage" action="{$request_uri}" method="post"> <select name="selectlanguage" id="selectlanguage" onchange="setLanguage(this.value)"> {foreach from=$languages key=k item=language name="languages"} <option value="{$language.id_lang}" {if $language.iso_code == $lang_iso} selected {/if} >{$language.name} </option> {/foreach} </select> <input type="hidden" name="id_lang" id="id_lang" value=""/> </form> </div> -------------------------------- Really appreciate your help with modifying this. Please try not to give me a totally new script (i bet it will/may work better but i wouldnt be able to understand..:-( so no point...) Hi, all! I'm a "fresh" newbie, JS self-taught from the great resources provided in this forum. I want to better currently working page but lack enough knowledge atm. The situation is this: * Multimedia database - audio clips and corresponding video clips to some of the audio ones. * Dynamic content page showing the latest (by date) 5 or 10 clips with their info from db. * Links provided for each clip, both to listen in a new popup window and to download the clip. Accomplished so far: everything of the above *only* for the audio clips (and video ones but separately on a different page). Every record in the data base has an audio clip and some of them, not all, have a video clip. E.g. there are records only with audio clips and there are records both with audio and video clips. My question is is it possible wherever there's a video clip in the db in an already displayed db-record on the page to display 'watch' and 'download' icon for it together with already shown audio icons ('listen' and 'download')? Conditional displaying. I read about combination between JS and CSS in almost similar situation but don't know how to apply it in my situation due to my little knowledge base at this moment. So, any help will be highly appreciated and useful as it will push me forward in learning JS. I'm almost sure this is possible as it's not a complicated issue. I can post my so far working code, if requested. If not provided enough info on the issue, let me know. Thank you in advance! Hi all - first post - I'm not too hot on javascript so I don't know if this can be done nor how to search for it in the forum because I don't know what keywords to use - but if I give an idea of what I want to do, perhaps someone can suggest an idea of how to proceed? I have two left floated divs - in the left div I want a series of drop downs (possibly check boxes as well) about a series of products. When the user makes their decision and presses submit, I want the form to submit to a javascript function that says "Right, you will need, from your responses, product C" and in the right hand floated div, a series of hidden product info divs whose visibility is changed depending on which product the function determines is the one for you. Broken down into parts I think I need to do the following: a) Standard HTML form with drop downs etc and submit b) Hidden divs c) Submission process locally to javascript function to determine which product to show/hide d) Javascript function that makes the decision e) Javascript that hides/shows products Unfortunately a server side option is not available; it has to be a client side solution and I only could think of javascript. I can probably handle all bar c) and d) - any pointers, help or suggestions would be great thanks! cheers frank Hello all, hope all is well. I have a search function that displays hidden divs based on what the user has searched for. I would like the "search results" to be opened onto a new page; I have a feeling the results page would contain all the hidden divs and a form of JS would need to be used to "pass" the search data to the new page and thus perform the search and display the corresponding div. - Any help is appreciated here code and demo site below. contained in so eg if I have a 300px wide navbar with 13px text: home | about | contact | services | products and in Russian its: fgfgdg |gghgfdhggghgfhgfh | gfg |gfdgfgdfgfdgffd dgfdgdg | gdfgfgdfgfgdfg I would like the font size to reduce down to fit the 300px fixed width div from say 13px to 10px or whatever fits. so it would be like: fgfgdg |gghgfdhggghgfhgfh | gfg |gfdgfgdfgfdgffd dgfdgdg | gdfgfgdfgfgdfg I was looking at http://jsfiddle.net/e8B9j/2/show/ and was hoping someone could get it to work to suit the above. So as above u'd have say 5 menu item divs nested in a navbar div Code: <div id="navbar"> <div class="menuItem">item</div> <div class="menuItem">item</div> <div class="menuItem">item</div> <div class="menuItem">item</div> <div class="menuItem">item</div> </div> ...or using ul and li's Any help greatly appreciated. Perhaps a jquery solution out there? Thanks Hello there I'm trying to code a menu which when clicking say the 'news' button, a div will appear to the right containing the news, if you then click the button below, say 'information', the news div will be replaced by the 'information' div. I can figure out how to make a single menu item show and hide a div, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it for a whole menu. Any help greatly appreciated! So, I'm using a lot of js and I needed to find a work around to get it all working together, so I'm using InsertContent and RemoveContent to control several divs that I have. In this case it is 4 divs, but in other situations I'll have up to 10. My problem is that when the user starts with the first div displayed, the other 3 swap just fine, however, when clicking through the set of links, once the user gets to the 3rd link that is supposed to swap out the divs all the divs show up except the first, and the same happens on the fourth link. This is my js for the div swap functionality: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- function InsertContent(tid) { if(document.getElementById(tid).style.display == "none") { document.getElementById(tid).style.display = ""; } else { document.getElementById(tid).style.display = "none"; } } function RemoveContent(tid) { if(document.getElementById(tid).style.display == "") { document.getElementById(tid).style.display = "none"; } else { document.getElementById(tid).style.display = ""; } } //--> </script> These are the html links: Code: <div class="listimg"><a href="javascript:RemoveContent('view2','view3','view4'); InsertContent('view1'); swapimg(0); " ><img src="../assets/images/nokia/nokia01_thumb.jpg" id="item0" alt="" style="opacity:.99;" /></a></div> <div class="listimg"><a href="javascript:RemoveContent('view1','view3','view4'); InsertContent('view2'); swapimg(1); "><img src="../assets/images/nokia/nokia02_thumb.jpg" id="item1" alt="" /></a></div> <div class="listimg"><a href="javascript:RemoveContent('view1','view2','view4'); InsertContent('view3'); swapimg(2);"><img src="../assets/images/nokia/nokia03_thumb.jpg" id="item2" alt=""/></a></div> <div class="listimg"><a href="javascript:RemoveContent('view1','view2','view3'); InsertContent('view4'); swapimg(3);"><img src="../assets/images/nokia/nokia04_thumb.jpg" id="item3" alt=""/></a></div> And these are the divs that are being removed and added: Code: <div id="view1" style="display: " > <a href="../assets/images/nokia/nokia01_big.jpg" class="thickbox" title="Windowcling" rel="gallery-art" >view larger1</a> </div> <div id="view2" style="display:none" > <a href="../assets/images/nokia/nokia02_big.jpg" class="thickbox" title="Windowcling2" rel="gallery-art2" >view larger2</a> </div> <div id="view3" style="display:none" > <a href="../assets/images/nokia/nokia03_big.jpg" class="thickbox" title="Windowcling3" rel="gallery-art3" >view larger3</a> </div> <div id="view4" style="display:none" > <a href="../assets/images/nokia/nokia04_big.jpg" class="thickbox" title="Windowcling2" rel="gallery-art4" >view larger4</a> </div> Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance! Ok, I seem to be stuck on one part of my code. A quick background, this is a website to showcase various photography services. First, I will lay out what I have: The Javascript for my menu (in the head section): Code: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- var timeout = 200; var closetimer = 1; var items = 0; function dropit(id) { canclcls(); if(items) items.style.visibility = 'hidden'; items = document.getElementById(id); items.style.visibility = 'visible'; } function mclose() { if(items) items.style.visibility = 'hidden'; } function mcls() { closetimer = window.setTimeout(mclose, timeout); } function canclcls() { if(closetimer) { window.clearTimeout(closetimer); closetimer = null; } } document.onclick = mclose; // --> </script> Now, here is what I have in the body section Code: <div id="menu"> <ul id="control"> <li><a href="#" onmouseover="dropit('dropone')" onmouseout="mcls()">Wedding Portfolio</a> <div id="dropone" onmouseover="canclcls()" onmouseout="mcls()"> <a href="jamaicawed.html">Wedding in Jamaica</a> <a href="indianwed.html">Indian Wedding</a> </div> </li> <li><a href="#" onmouseover="dropit('m2')" onmouseout="mcls()">Model Portfolio</a> <div id="m2" onmouseover="canclcls()" onmouseout="mcls()"> <a href="emilymodel.html">Emily</a> <a href="nicolemodel.html">Nicole</a> </div> </li> <li><a href="#" onmouseover="dropit('m3')" onmouseout="mcls()">Other Works</a> <div id="m3" onmouseover="canclcls()" onmouseout="mcls()"> <a href="catalog.html">Catalog</a> <a href="#" onclick "alert">Boudoir</a> <a href="product.html">Product</a> </div> </li> <li><a href="#" onmouseover="dropit('m4')" onmouseout="mcls()">More</a> <div id="m4" onmouseover="canclcls()" onmouseout="mcls()"> <a href="aboutus.html">About Us</a> <a href="contact.html">Contact Us</a> </div> </li> </ul> </div> Ok, so the only thing I can't figure out how to do is create an onclick event for one of the menu items (boudoir) that confirms that the user is comfortable being exposed to a specific (topless) type of image. Would someone be kind enough to help? Hi Chaps, I have a dynamic list menu: PHP Code: <?php $currentCat = ''; $first = true ;?> <ul> <?php do { if ($currentCat != $row_rsCategory['catname']) { if (!$first) { echo "\n</ul>\n</li>\n"; } $currentCat = $row_rsCategory['catname']; ?> <li><?php echo $row_rsCategory['catname']; ?> <ul> <?php }?> <li><?php echo $row_rsCategory['galleryname']; ?></li> <?php $first = false; } while ($row_rsCategory = mysql_fetch_assoc($rsCategory)); ?> </ul> </li> </ul> I've tried looking for a show/hide script, to toggle category names/gallery names, but could only find ones that have static menu options, and have failed to edit existing code to fit....any help or guidence would be appreciated! Hello all! I hope everyone had a great Holiday I'm hoping someone can help me with a Switch Menu code. I borrowed and modded the code offered he http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamici...switchmenu.htm The site I'm trying to implement this menu on is: http://hardlyrhetoric.com/ste/projects.html Additional required files for this page a http://hardlyrhetoric.com/ste/tabcontent.js http://hardlyrhetoric.com/ste/tabcontent.css As you can see, the menu on the left will expand and collapse, revealing the sub-links perfectly fine. It will even display the content for each link in the first set of "Datacenters and Emergency Power" links, as it should. The problem is with each section after "Datacenters and Emergency Power" None of the links will display content in the right column the way the first set of links does. I've looked over the code for several hours... am I missing something basic??? Trying to get the divs to switch style properties when selected form select menu. Any help would be great! Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function showstuff(element){ if(document.getElementById(element).style.display = 'block') { document.getElementById(have).style.visibility="block"; document.getElementById(look).style.visibility="none"; } else if(document.getElementById(element).style.visibility = 'block') { document.getElementById(look).style.visibility="block"; document.getElementById(have).style.visibility="none"; } } </script> <select name="type" onchange="showstuff(this.value);"> <option value="look">Look</option> <option value="have">Have</option> </select> <div id="have" style="display:block;">Have</div> <div id="look" style="display:none;">Look</div> I'm tearing my hair out with this one and can't figure out why it won't work, and am hoping someone could help a Javascript noobie out. Basically, I need the script to hide two divs if one of the options in a <select> menu is selected. Here's the code I've got for the Javascript: Code: function typeoflisting() { var selectform = document.getElementById('propertytype'); if (selectform.options[selectedIndex].value == "sell") { document.getElementById('per_week').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('bond').style.display = 'none'; } else { document.getElementById('per_week').style.display = 'block'; document.getElementById('bond').style.display = 'block'; } } Here's the <select> form: Code: <select id="propertytype" name="propertytype" class="select" onchange="typeoflisting()"> <option value="lease">I'd like to lease a property to tenants</option> <option value="sell">I'd like to sell a property</option> <option value="share">I'd like to share a property</option> </select> And here's the first div I'm attempting to hide: Code: <div id="per_week" style="float: left;"> per week</div> And the second div I'm attempting to hide: Code: <div style="float: left; padding: 20px 20px 0px 0px;" id="bond"> <h3>Bond</h3> <input type="text" class="text" value="$"/> </div> Could anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? |
