JavaScript - Javascript Argument To Pick The Largest Number And Break A Tie If Exists
Hi there,
I am trying to pick the larger of 5 numbers and sometimes there is a tie. I would like to prioritize variable c1 if there is a tie. This data is from a quiz I am writing. var c1 = 2; // Takes priority if there is a tie. var c2 = 1; var c3 = 2; var c4 = 0; var c5 = 0; Similar TutorialsBasically I want to factor a number and select the two closest numbers to the middle of the factors for example: 20 factors to 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, 20 I want it to return 4 and 5 If the number is has an odd number of factors (has to be a perfect square) I want it to select the middle number and say it twice for example: 64 factors to 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 I want it to return 8 and 8 Would I use an array or what? My code should probably look like: PHP Code: x = //Factors array y = //number of items in x if (/*y is even*/){ i = y/2 i2 = i+1 a = [i] b = [i2] } else{ i = //somehow the center number? i2 = i a = [i] b = [i2] } can someone give me the code to display drop down date with default todays date selected...format dd/mm/yyyy i found the code to display month in mon format..what is to be modified to get in mm format here ______________ <script> var monthtext=['Jan','Feb','Mar','Apr','May','Jun','Jul','Aug','Sept','Oct','Nov','Dec']; function populatedropdown(dayfield, monthfield, yearfield){ var today=new Date() var dayfield=document.getElementById(dayfield) var monthfield=document.getElementById(monthfield) var yearfield=document.getElementById(yearfield) for (var i=0; i<31; i++) dayfield.options[i]=new Option(i, i+1) dayfield.options[today.getDate()]=new Option(today.getDate(), today.getDate(), true, true) //select today's day for (var m=0; m<12; m++) monthfield.options[m]=new Option(monthtext[m], monthtext[m]) monthfield.options[today.getMonth()]=new Option(monthtext[today.getMonth()], monthtext[today.getMonth()], true, true) //select today's month var thisyear=today.getFullYear() for (var y=0; y<20; y++){ yearfield.options[y]=new Option(thisyear, thisyear) thisyear+=1 } yearfield.options[0]=new Option(today.getFullYear(), today.getFullYear(), true, true) //select today's year } </script> Hi guys , i have this function that allows me to hide a <div ID="ID1"> . function hide(X) { document.getElementById('X').style.visibility='hidden'; } <p><a href="#" onclick="hide('ID1');">show me/</a></p> <div ID="ID1" style="visibility:hidden">This is the content</div> the issue the function only works when i change X by ID1. i want to make it for any ID called with the function by assigning any DIV "ID" as an argument. any help ? thanks Hi I am currently writing a program to analyse (to a degree), the points scored in a dance contest. The program mainly works so far. However I am struggling to conclude the program end. Using an if statement, I would like to compute if a dance-off is required, looping through the combinedPointsArray and determining if 2 or more numbers hold the higest score and are equal. The aim is to provide: Maximum number of combined points The couples and their combined points The couples names with the highest points If two or more couples have equal highest combined points - output whether a dance-off is required. This is my program so far: Code: <HTML> <HEAD> <LINK REL="shortcut icon" TYPE="image/x-icon" HREF="favicon.ico"> <TITLE> Latin Dancing Contest </TITLE> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE = "JavaScript"> var contestantNamesArray = ['Tom and Nazia', 'Pat and Dan', 'Sandra and Kofi', 'Ian and Adele', 'Paul and Costas']; var judgesPointsArray = [2,1,5,4,3]; var audiencePointsArray = [4,5,2,3,1]; var combinedPointsArray = new Array (judgesPointsArray.length) for (x=0;x<combinedPointsArray.length;x++) { combinedPointsArray[x] = parseInt( judgesPointsArray[x] + audiencePointsArray[x] ); } var biggest = 0; var values = new Array(); for (x=0;x<combinedPointsArray.length;x++) { if (combinedPointsArray[x] >= biggest ) { values[biggest]++; biggest = parseInt(combinedPointsArray[x]); } } if ( values == biggest ) { document.write('A Dance-off is required <BR><BR> '); } document.write('The biggest score was : ' + (biggest)); </script> <BR><BR> <table border="1"> <tr><th>Names</th><th>Combined Points</th></tr> <script language="JavaScript"> <!-- // Use a for loop to step through the two arrays and print // the values in the table. for (var i=0; i<contestantNamesArray.length; i++) { document.write("<tr><td>" + contestantNamesArray[i] + "</td>"); document.write("<td>" + combinedPointsArray[i] + "</td></tr>"); } //--> </script> </HEAD> <BODY> </BODY> </HTML> Any help would be really appreciated. I have spent so long on this; consequently I am pulling my hair out. Regards hyp3r Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title> Jackhammer </title> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <script type="text/javascript"> /* <![CDATA[ */ var jackhammers = new Array(11); var curJackhammer = 0; var direction; var begin; jackhammers[0] = "jackhammer0.gif"; jackhammers[1] = "jackhammer1.gif"; jackhammers[2] = "jackhammer2.gif"; jackhammers[3] = "jackhammer3.gif"; jackhammers[4] = "jackhammer4.gif"; jackhammers[5] = "jackhammer5.gif"; jackhammers[6] = "jackhammer6.gif"; jackhammers[7] = "jackhammer7.gif"; jackhammers[8] = "jackhammer8.gif"; jackhammers[9] = "jackhammer9.gif"; jackhammers[10] = "jackhammer10.gif"; function bounce() { if(curJackhammer == 10) curJackhammer = 0; else ++curJackhammer; /* Firefox does not register an error with the line of code below, but other browsers do . . . It looks like it is a typo left over from the slightly more advanced technique in 10-4 where jackhammers.src is defined. Also, were you to comment out the final line in this function you would see the animation does not work. In browsers other than Firefox which apparently just ignores this code and no animation occurs, the image element is assigned the source value of "undefined" and of course no image is named "undefined". */ document.getElementsByTagName('img')[0].src = jackhammers[curJackhammer].src; if(curJackhammer == 0) direction = "up"; else if(curJackhammer == 10) direction = "down"; document.getElementsByTagName('img')[0].src = jackhammers[curJackhammer]; } function startBouncing() { if(begin) clearInterval(begin); begin = setInterval("bounce()",90); } /* ]]> */ </script> </head> <body> <h1> Jackhammer Man </h1> <p> <img src="jackhammer0.gif" height="113" width="100" alt="Image of a man with a jackhammer." /> </p> <form action="" enctype="text/plain"> <p> <input type="button" value="Start Bouncing" onclick="startBouncing();" /> <input type="button" value="Stop Bouncing" onclick="clearInterval(begin);" /> </p> </form> </body> </html> My teacher insists that the above code is valid (straight out of our book). He says this because (I'm guessing) it runs okay in Firefox and other browsers. It also throws a ton of error messages in Chrome and makes no logical sense. We define the values of the jackhammer array as literal strings, and then the book instructs us to change the source of the image element on the page to jackhammers[i].src. It then has us change the source of the image element again, correctly at the end of the function. It also has us create a useless variable: "direction" (and I say useless because we never use it, it is just fluff I guess). On a side note, would some of you guys like to check out this animation I created here and let me know what you think. Thanks guys. Hello, I am trying to execute a javascript function passed as argument. I am not sure of the exact way to do it. <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> var checkLink = function(linkId, enabledFunction){ var linkidObj = document.getElementById(linkId); if(linkidObj.className=="activelinktext" ) { enabledFunction(); return false; } else if(linkidObj.className=="inactivelinktext") { return false; } alert("*inside CheckLink*"+enabledFunction); }; </script> </head> <body> <a class="inactivelinktext" onclick="checklink(this,"javascript:goback();")"> </body> </html> Thanks, -Vijay Hello, I am looking for a way to tell from javascript if a file exists (on the server). I don't mind doing this with a .php script, if I have to, but the javascript still needs to know if the file exists. I thought the following javascript code might work: Code: var file_exists = <?php echo file_exists("OpenTokSessionId.txt"); ?>; but it didn't. PHP parsed the php code, but it didn't assign the result value to the Javascript variable like its supposed to (or at least, it didn't seem to). When I looked at the page source after I uploaded it to the server, that line of code now looked like this: Code: var file_exists = ; Note that my server is setup to pass files with an .html or .htm extension to the php engine. That is why this kind of stuff can be done. But for some reason, php doesn't seem to be able to output bool values. I tried the following .php script, which I loaded directly in my browser, but it didn't output anything: PHP Code: <?php function fileExists() { return file_exists("OpenTokSessionId.txt")) } echo fileExists(); ?> So I changed it to the following, and it outputted "File does not exist.", which is the expected result: PHP Code: <?php function fileExists() { if (file_exists("OpenTokSessionId.txt")) echo "File exists."; else echo "File does not exist."; } fileExists(); ?> hi.. I want to have a list of words (in an array or whatever just to work) if the user put that word in a textfield (onblur or onchange) a message popup (alert) appears. (Must be popup alert) but I dont know to code it. HELP! ex.: Code: function badwords() { var badwords = new Array(); badwords =["badwords1","badwords2","AndSo-On"]; if badwords if written in textfield alert("Badwords not allowed"); else nothing happen just continue with next textfield } <input type="text" name="" onBlur=badwords()> Anyone please help Ok, guys. I'm new to JavaScript, so go easy. I'll be asking bunches of "dumb" questions for a while. 1st question, and the only one for now ... Say I have the following function: Code: function SwapValues(SwapVal1,SwapVal2) { TempSwapVal=SwapVal1; SwapVal1=SwapVal2; SwapVal2=TempSwapVal; } I don't care about the return value of the function itself, but I do need the new values of SwapVal1 and SwapVal2. In ASP when I do this, the values get returned. How do I get this to work in JS? Hai Forum, May be this question is not in correct format, I want to know about how to check a particular file is exists or not ? using Javascript.One thing without using ActiveXObject because it is supports in IE only. Thanking You, Santosh Srinivas.G $_SESSION['order']['paymentmethod'] equals "Cheque". With the code bellow, I was expecting JavaScript to change the SELECT drop down menu to "Cheque", but it doesn't... However, when I remove the OPTION attribute value="cheque/", it works. This appears to be because there is a conflict with the OPTION attribute value and the SELECT content value "Cheque". Does anyone know how I can get around this issue? Code: <FORM action="" method="post" name="form"> <DIV> <SELECT class="verdana" name="paymentmethod" onchange="this.form.action = this.value;"> <OPTION></OPTION> <OPTION value="cheque/">Cheque</OPTION> <OPTION value="visa/">Visa</OPTION> </SELECT> <BR> <BR> <INPUT type="submit" value="PROCEED"> </DIV> </FORM> <SCRIPT type="text/javascript"> document.forms["form"]["paymentmethod"].value = "<?php echo $_SESSION['order']['paymentmethod']; ?>"; </SCRIPT> Hi All, I am not an expert in Javascript. Can I detect if 1 or more sessions of a website are open? for example, if a session with port 7005 is open like this one below, then I want to assign the next port to this user in the second window of browser http://90.97.8.0:7005/maximo/webclient/login/login.jsp the next IE window should appear like this: http://90.97.8.0:7006/maximo/webclient/login/login.jsp or http://90.97.8.0:7007/maximo/webclient/login/login.jsp Please advise. Thanks Yasar is there a way to make a javascript <br/> ??

But didn't got succeed. Can anybody help me to come out of this problem. Regards Vimal kumar Madhepura, Bihar I have these line of javascript: Code: $(document).ready(function () { /*$('#first').focus(); $(this).keyup(function (e) { if (e.keyCode == 13) { generate(); } });*/ }); function generate() { if($("input[name='name']").val().length > 1) { fi = $("input[name='name']").val().substring(0,1).toUpperCase(); var sl = ["Cool "]; var sl2 = ["Hand "]; var sl3 = ["Luke",]; { var i = Math.floor(Math.random() * sl.length); var j = Math.floor(Math.random() * sl2.length); var k = Math.floor(Math.random() * sl3.length); var nick = sl[i] + sl2[j] + sl3[k]; } { $("#answer").text("Your Name Is: " +nick); $("#answer").fadeIn("slow"); } ; } } I would like for it to return: Your Name Is: Cool Hand Luke I want the "Cool Hand Luke" to be on a separate line but I don't know how to put a linebreak in the .text string. I have millions of great ideas but because of my very limited skills I run into all kinds of obstacles all the time. This is yet another. I'd like to redesign the scoring summary layout in the game... so I'm trying to create a scoring line that would show the goal scorers like this: Atlanta Scoring: Antropov (1), Reasoner (1) But currently I'm always getting a line break and I get the scorers like this: Antropov (1) Reasoner (1) etc. Screenshot: My code must be sloppy as hell though: This shows the scorers: Code: var sDataHTML4 = "" var aHeaderText = new Array(nhlMsg(" Goal assist") , nhlMsg("Team"), nhlMsg("# Assists", true) ); var aHeaderWidth = new Array( 300 , 120, 50); var sHeaderHTML4 = createHeaderRow( aHeaderText , aHeaderWidth ); for ( var i = 0; i < oAwayLastGame.nNumPlayers; i++ ) { if (oAwayLastGame.aPlayerStats[i].nAssists > 0) sDataHTML4 += createDataRow4( oManagerInterface.GetPlayerFullName( oAwayLastGame.aPlayerStats[i].nPlayerID), ( oManagerInterface.GetTeamShortName(oAwayLastGame.nTeamID)), oAwayLastGame.aPlayerStats[i].nAssists) ; } return createTable( sHeaderHTML + sDataHTML + sDataHTML2 + sHeaderHTML3 + sDataHTML4 + sDataHTML3 + sGoals ); Datarow arguments: Code: function createDataRow4( args ) { var sHTML = "<tr>"; var nNumArgs = arguments.length; for( nIndex = 0 ; nIndex < nNumArgs ; nIndex++) { (nIndex == 0 ) ? sHTML += "<td class=\"fourthDataCell\">" + arguments[nIndex] + "</td>" :sHTML += "<td class=\"data2\">(" + arguments[nIndex] + ")</td>" } return sHTML += "</tr>"; } What the heck I have to do make the scorers to show all in the same line? Does "create datarow" automatically define them in one separate row? The answer must be simple but I simply can't figure it out... I have tried to Google this for days now. Thanks. Hey guys I export data from Javascript to Xml file. I have tried several ways to break a line in xml file like document.write("<br/>"); or document.writeln(); etc, but seem it is impossible. Maybe you can give me a solution...... Look at below: XML File: <?xml version="1.0"?> <DATA> <Cust>< Select>Debit Card</Select> </Cust ><Cust>[ User>Jan</User ></Cust> <DATA> I want to break <Cust> from another <Cust>. Javascript: function ok_click() { var xmlDoc = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.DOMDocument.6.0"); xmlDoc.async = false; xmlDoc.load("data.xml"); if (xmlDoc.readyState == 4 && xmlDoc.parseError.errorCode == 0) { var root = xmlDoc.documentElement; var e1 = document.getElementById("Select1"); var _account_type = xmlDoc.createTextNode(e1.options[e1.selectedIndex].value); var e2 = document.getElementById("Select2"); var _user = xmlDoc.createTextNode(e2.options[e2.selectedIndex].value); var account_type = xmlDoc.createNode(1, "Select", ""); var user = xmlDoc.createNode(1, "User", ""); account_type.appendChild(_account_type); user.appendChild(_user); var cust = xmlDoc.createNode(1, "Cust", ""); cust.appendChild(account_type); document.write("<br/>"); cust.appendChild(user); root.appendChild(cust); SaveXML(xmlDoc, "data.xml"); alert("Save!"); } } Your help would much appreciated Thanks Natz Hi, I came across this thread and I've decided to use jmrker's code.
