JavaScript - Auto Complete Script Not Working In Ie
I have used the following script to make provide matching value suggestions for any text typed in the text box and user can select any value by clicking it
this works fine in firefox, crome but not in IE. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Ajax Auto Suggest</title> <!--http://www.nodstrum.com/2007/09/19/autocompleter/ --> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.2.1.pack.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> function lookup(inputString) { if(inputString.length == 0) { // Hide the suggestion box. $('#suggestions').hide(); } else { $.post("rpc.asp?inputString="+inputString+"", {}, function(data){ if(data.length >0) { $('#suggestions').show(); $('#autoSuggestionsList').html(data); } }); } } // lookup function fill(thisValue) { $('#inputString').val(thisValue); boxhide(); } function boxhide() { setTimeout("$('#suggestions').hide();", 200); } </script> <style type="text/css"> body { font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 11px; color: #000; } h3 { margin: 0px; padding: 0px; } .suggestionsBox { position: relative; left: 30px; margin: 10px 0px 0px 0px; width: 200px; background-color: #212427; -moz-border-radius: 7px; -webkit-border-radius: 7px; border: 2px solid #000; color: #fff; } .suggestionList { margin: 0px; padding: 0px; } .suggestionList li { margin: 0px 0px 3px 0px; padding: 3px; cursor: pointer; } .suggestionList li:hover { background-color: #659CD8; } </style> </head> <body> <div> <form> <div> Type your county: <br /> <input type="text" size="30" value="" id="inputString" onkeyup="lookup(this.value);" onblur="boxhide();" /> </div> <div class="suggestionsBox" id="suggestions" style="display: none;"> <img src="upArrow.png" style="position: relative; top: -12px; left: 30px;" alt="upArrow" /> <div class="suggestionList" id="autoSuggestionsList"> </div> </div> </form> </div> </body> </html> rpc.asp returns values matching the inputstring passed <li id='suggestedValue' onclick=""fill('Matchvalue');"">Matchvalue</li> Any help? Similar TutorialsHi All I have this basic auto complete JavaScript that works well, but you need to hard code the web page. What I'm trying to do is send the "Autocomplete" variable data to the page using a perl script the working JavaScript code looks like this: var CustomArray=new Array('an apple','alligator','elephant','pear','kingbird','kingbolt','kingcraft','kingcup','kingdom','kingfish er','kingpin','SML'); Now the new code is: var CustomArray=new Array(Autocomplete); And the Perl script is sending back the data to the browser looking like this: var Autocomplete = 'an apple','alligator','elephant','pear','kingbird','kingbolt','kingcraft','kingcup','kingdom','kingfish er','kingpin','SML' I cant seem to get it to work rite full HTML code is below any help is appreciated. I need some help here. I need to pre-populate a name and a phone number box based on what's entered in the employee id box. By entering in the employee id - EMPLOYEE ID: [JOHN R] It automatically fills in - Employee Name: [John Roberts] Employee Phone: [1234567890] Thanks. Hi, I'm trying to work through a head first book on ajax and javascript. I am also trying to emplement some of the codes in a small application I had built strictly with server side code. What it does is: two input fields for user defined values. Once the user inputs the two values, they are passed to the action page, some simple math is performed on these 2 values, and then 4 different resluts are displayed back on the action page. What I wanted was of course to make this asynchronous and display the results without a page reload. So, when I reworked the book code for my own use, and try to run the application, I get an error saying my url variable is undefined. The value of the first input seems to be passed though. One thing of note to mention is the application was written in coldfusion. The form values are passed using cf. Not sure if that matters. I mean cf works well with js and ajax, but maybe my original procedure doesnt work with my js code as it is now. Here is the javascript/ajax code: PHP Code: <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> var request = null; try { request = new XMLHttpRequest(); } catch (trymicrosoft) { try { request = new ActiveXObject("Msxm12.XMLHTTP"); } catch (othermicrosoft) { try { request = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch (failed) { request = null; } } if(request == null) alert("Error creating request object!"); } function getLampVolts() { var lamp = document.getElementById("lampVoltage").value; var url = "calculatorAction.cfm?lamp = " + escape(lampVolts); request.open("GET", url, true); request.onreadystatechange = updatePage; request.send(null); } function updatePage() { if(request.readyState == 4) { if(request.status == 200) { var lumens = request.responseText; document.getElementById("lumens").value = lumens; } else alert("Error! Request Status is " + request.status); } } </script> Here is the form: Code: <form action="calculatorAction.cfm"> <table> <tr> <th>Lamp Voltage</th> <td><input name="lampVoltage" id="lampVoltage" type="text" /></td> </tr> <tr> <th>Socket Voltage</th> <td><input name="socketVoltage" id="socketVoltage" type="text" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="button" value="Submit" onClick="getLampVolts();" /></td> <td><input type="reset" value="Reset" /></td> </tr> </table> and here is my action page calculatorAction.cfm: Code: <cfparam name="bulbCalculator.cfm" type="any" default="0"> <!--- Set User Defined Values of Form ---> <cfset lampVolts = FORM.lampVoltage> <cfset actualVolts = FORM.socketVoltage> <!--- Set Constants For Calculations ---> <cfset lumens = 27500> <cfset life = 500> <cfset watts = 65> <cfset colorTemp = 3500> <!--- Perform Calculations ---> <cfset actualLumens = ((actualVolts/lampVolts)^3.4)*lumens> <cfset lumenPercent = actualLumens/lumens*100> <cfset hours = ((lampVolts/actualVolts)^13)*life> <cfset hourPercent = hours/life*100> <cfset actualWatts = ((actualVolts/lampVolts)^1.3)*watts> <cfset wattPercent = actualWatts/watts*100> <cfset temperature = ((actualVolts/lampVolts)^.42)*colorTemp> <cfset tempReduction = temperature-colorTemp> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Untitled Document</title> </head> <body> <cfsavecontent variable="calculations"> <table> <cfoutput> <tr> <td>Lamp Rated Voltage:</td> <td>#lampVolts#</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Socket Application Voltage:</td> <td>#actualVolts#</td> </tr> <tr> <td id="lumens">Percent of Lumens Used:</td> <td>#round(lumenPercent)#%</td> </tr> <tr> <td>New Rated life in Percentages:</td> <td>#round(hourPercent)#%</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Percent of Watts Used:</td> <td>#round(wattPercent)#%</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Change in Temperatu </td> <td>#round(tempReduction)#°</td> </tr> </cfoutput> </table></cfsavecontent> </body> </html> Again, the url variable says it is undefined. But the variable "lamp" contains the form field value. Thanks for any help and tips in advance! This may seem a long shot, but 5 years ago I found a script that had everything (not just alpha, etc, but everything). I have looked at Jquery validation and while it is robust, many of the examples were bugged. I am no coder, and I feel like I may be torched here for wasting precious space. However, I was really hoping you all could point me in a right direction. Perhaps if not java, with something else. Paid, Donate, Free. Anything. (The only script I have on form now is just Auotab next/prev plugin for jquery) Function required: Inline on change/next type matching (confirm email/pw fields) basic formatting (numeric only, alpha with spaces, etc) Basic validation of email type expressions, etc Required fields, etc However, I would love to take it a step further Email: Checks for valid TLD Password: sctricter requirements Phone: Requires legitimate values (not just numeric); ie: 201-999, no 555, 411,611,911, etc Date of birth: Checks valid ranges of dates entered; checks min/max age requirement Possible real time database or web services checks (which would be ajax, etc im sure) custom number values (ie, for credit cards, number must be xxxx-xxxx (not 0000-1111-2222-3333 Any other possible logical info, for instance, Name not in badnames list (like Fred Flinstone, IP Freely, or other Cuss words/phrases) Yes, I know most of these would wind up as a server side reject on the submit page, where we could possibly recapture the data. However, that type of method typically lowers conversions. Yes, there is the Jquery plugin, and with knowhow, you can make it do this, however I dont have the knowhow and would rather donate/pay for something already out of the box. The use for this would be contact forms, profile forms, info requests, sales pages, Been trying to get this auto refreshed instead of clicking to refresh <center><iframe src="http://orange.citrus3.com:8338/played.html" width=800 height=400 frameborder=0 scrolling=no id="myiframe"></iframe></center><br> <center><b><BIG><body link="#FF0000"><a href="javascript:myiframe.document.location.reload()">Refresh Current Song</a></BIG></b></center> I am having difficulties with Internet Explorer and cannot find a solution online. The code in question is at http://www.blainegregson.com/news.php. The iFrame resizes for Firefox, Chrome, and Safari but not for IE. Also, I don't know javascript and thus found this code online. Here is the sample code: Code: <Script type="text/javascript"> function setIframeHeight(iframeName) { var iframeEl = document.getElementById? document.getElementById(iframeName): document.all? document.all[iframeName]: null; if (iframeEl) { iframeEl.style.height = "auto"; // need to add to height to be sure it will all show var h = alertSize(iframeName); iframeEl.style.height =h + "px"; } } function alertSize(frameId) { var myHeight = 0; frame = document.getElementById(frameId); if( typeof( window.innerWidth ) == 'number' ) { //Non-IE var getFFVersion=navigator.userAgent.substring(navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Firefox")).split("/")[1]; var FFextraHeight=parseFloat(getFFVersion)>=0.1? 16 : 0; myHeight=frame.contentDocument.body.offsetHeight+FFextraHeight; } else if( document.documentElement && ( document.documentElement.clientWidth || document.documentElement.clientHeight ) ) { //IE 6+ in 'standards compliant mode' innerDoc = (frame.contentDocument) ? frame.contentDocument : frame.contentWindow.document; myHeight= innerDoc.body.scrollHeight + 10; //myHeight = document.documentElement.clientHeight; } else if( document.body && ( document.body.clientWidth || document.body.clientHeight ) ) { //IE 4 compatible myHeight = document.body.clientHeight; } //window.alert( 'Height = ' + myHeight ); return myHeight; } </script> I currently have this on my companies website and it's having a bit of trouble sometimes where it will only work after a refresh. Is it possible to do a refresh of this div and script as soon as the site loads, instead of using the auto refresh. I tried using auto refresh and it works but whatever time interval I put for the auto refresh is the time that the script pops up, so it kind of just makes it worst. Code: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $("#twitter").getTwitter({ userName: "lubellrosen", numTweets: 4, loaderText: "Loading Events...", slideIn: true, slideDuration: 750, showHeading: false, headingText: "Latest Tweets", showProfileLink: false, showTimestamp: false }); }); </script> What I am looking to do is auto-populate a number of forms based on what a user chooses as a starting date. For example: If a user enters 12/12/2009 I want the other fields to automatically populate with the next 2 weeks (12/13/2009, 12/14/2009, 12/15/2009 etc.) Anyone have a useful script that I can use given that these fields are formatted as dates? The idea is to save time by only having to fill in the first date in the timesheet. Let me first say I am not a java programmer but I can follow the tutorials and get some things to work. Here I am trying to create a password protected page, realizing the level of security is not very high. This page of code, link1.html, will be blank and if the correct password is entered then I want to automatically link to another page, barcs.html. I simply cannot find a way to do it.....Thanks Code: <html> <head> <meta content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" http-equiv="content-type"> <title>Psw test link 1</title> <script language="JavaScript"> <!--hide var password; var pass1="cool"; var pass2="awesome"; var pass3="geekazoid"; password=prompt('Please enter your password to view this page!',' '); if (password==pass1 || password==pass2 || password==pass3) alert('Password Correct! Click OK to enter!'); else { window.location="http://www.acma-rc.com/"; } //--> </script> </head> <body> This is link1.html<br> </body> </html> i have this code included within a .php file on my website. I realised that my %age rules defining the width of my website page dont really work once i get to wider sizes so i want to use a fixed width page design using css code (only once wide enough) to achieve this. Please have a look at my code and tell me what im doing wrong i cant find anything wrong with my js. If js is anything like python i may need to change the output from a string to an integer or something along those lines. I can easily just doc.write the width but i cant get it to compare properly Code: <script type="text/javascript"> if (document.body.clientWidth > 1280) {document.write('<link href="wdestyle.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />')}; else {document.write('<link href="nrostyle.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />')}; </script> Hey, I'm a total noob when it comes to javascript. and manged to make this code for a different forum: Code: //This script was created by TROPAFLIGHT2 var d=new Date(); var theDay=d.getDay(); switch (theDay) { case 1: document.write("<EMBED src="http://bit.ly/Ky9R5F" autostart=true loop=true volume=100 hidden=true>"); break; case 2: document.write("<EMBED src="http://bit.ly/Ky9R5F" autostart=true loop=true volume=100 hidden=true>"); break; case 3: document.write("<EMBED src="http://bit.ly/JGUdU9" autostart=true loop=true volume=100 hidden=true>"); break; case 4: document.write("<EMBED src="http://bit.ly/JMVvl0" autostart=true loop=true volume=100 hidden=true>"); break; case 5: document.write("<EMBED src="http://bit.ly/JVq7yb" autostart=true loop=true volume=100 hidden=true>"); break; case 6: document.write("<EMBED src="http://bit.ly/J7fvwY" autostart=true loop=true volume=100 hidden=true>"); break; default: document.write("<EMBED src="http://bit.ly/J2mc7a" autostart=true loop=true volume=100 hidden=true>"); } That code obviously didn't work so I manged to fix certain things: Code: //This script was created by TROPAFLIGHT2 var d=new Date(); var theDay=d.getDay(); switch (theDay) { case 1: document.write;"(<EMBED src="//bit.ly/Ky9R5F" autostart=true loop=true volume=100 hidden=true>)"; break; case 2: document.write;"(<EMBED src="//bit.ly/Ky9R5F" autostart=true loop=true volume=100 hidden=true>)"; break; case 3: document.write;"(<EMBED src="//bit.ly/JGUdU9" autostart=true loop=true volume=100 hidden=true>)"; break; case 4: document.write;"(<EMBED src="//bit.ly/JMVvl0" autostart=true loop=true volume=100 hidden=true>)"; break; case 5: document.write;"(<EMBED src="//bit.ly/JVq7yb" autostart=true loop=true volume=100 hidden=true>)"; break; case 6: document.write;"(<EMBED src="//bit.ly/J7fvwY" autostart=true loop=true volume=100 hidden=true>)"; break; default: document.write;"(<EMBED src="//bit.ly/J2mc7a" autostart=true loop=true volume=100 hidden=true>)"; } Problem is, it still doesn't work and I don't really know why. I've stared at it for a long time but the problem didn't click like last time. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, me. We have an ASP website which everything works fine in pre-IE8, firefox and even our iPhone browsers but not IE8. I know what the problem is and where the problem is but don't know how to fix it, it should be pretty simple but I am not a developer...just trying to fix this one problem When the page loads it is supposed to automatically fill in a text box with the word: No This is the javascript that is supposed to do that: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function statusdefault(oSel) { status = 'No'; document.getElementById('theLabel5').value = status; } </script> and this shows the onload line: Code: <body onload="statusdefault(this)" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" background="images/background_stripe.jpg" text="#000000" link="#CCCCCC" vlink="#CCCCCC" alink="#CCCCCC" leftmargin="0" topmargin="10" marginwidth="0" marginheight="10"> <form action="<%=MM_editAction%>" method="POST" name="frmDetail" id="frmDetail"> additionally when someone changes a selection in one of the comboboxes it should change the textbox to: Yes Here is the code for that (which also does not work): Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function statusupdated(oSel) { status = 'Yes'; document.getElementById('theLabel5').value = status; } </script> which of course gets triggered by this: Code: <select name="lstQueue" id="select" onChange="statusupdated(this)"> This is the code for the said textbox: Code: <input name="txtStatusUpdated" type="text" id="theLabel5" value="<%=(rsQ.Fields.Item("StatusUpdated").Value)%>"> The error I get in IE8 is "This page cannot be displayed..." and give a http500 error with no other info. It looks like this javascript code was copied and pasted throughout this same ASP page and altered to do different things. All of the other scripts like this one work fine so I know it is just something in these particular ones that have a problem. Thanks for any help that can be given!!! Scott http://yfrog.com/ed20392020p need 2 make those 2 pics in java n i dont even know where to start T-T, the one on the right is supoose to be like lil boat lookin things can anyone give me a place where i can learn to make a line then array it from the center? I'm helping out my friend complete her site. check it out he http://themodline.com/clients/jcevent when you head over to the portfolio section the the lightbox script doesnt work properly. but if you just go to http://themodline.com/clients/jcevent/portfolio.html -it works fine. are the scripts mixing up? i made sure i got the correct codes. i made sure the script files are correctly linked. check out my scripts. they are zipped he http://www.themodline.com/clients/jcevent/scripts.zip thanks for the help guys. hope this makes sense! Ok, I've determined that my problem wasn't in the script itself, but in the fact that Opera 10 Beta 2 apparently does not recognize the "onload" attribute of the body tag. Is there a way to work around this?
Hi All, I am using one script which is functioning properly incase of IE but incase of Mozilla evenif the shift key is pressed and any character key is pressed then it is displaying Caps Lock is On. can anyone tell how can I make it Mozilla and IE compatible. Nice for a change: a piece of code that does work in all versions of IE, but not in Firefox. I'm stuck. Code: <img alt="Loodgieters" title="Loodgieters" src="/core/loodgieters_uit.png" name="loodgieters" border="0" style="margin-right:1px; margin-top:1px; float:left; cursor:pointer;" onclick="document.location='/pages/loodgieters.php';" onmouseover="foto1.style.backgroundColor='#392d63'; loodgieters.src='/core/loodgieters_aan.png'" onmouseout ="foto1.style.backgroundColor='#008ac9'; loodgieters.src='/core/loodgieters_uit.png'" /> Explanation: element "loodgieters" is a menu button that should change on mouseover. It doesn't in FF, it does in IE. Secondly, when you "mousover" the image, it should change the backgroundcolor of a second element (foto1). Element 'foto1' is a table cell. In return, when you mouse-over this table cell, the image element 'loodgieters' should change as well. So it's a two-way thing. The code for the table cell is: Code: <td height="189" id="foto1" bgcolor="#008ac9" valign="top" onmouseover="style.backgroundColor='#392d63'; loodgieters.src='/core/loodgieters_aan.png';" onmouseout="style.backgroundColor='#008ac9'; loodgieters.src='/core/loodgieters_uit.png';" style="cursor:pointer;" onclick="document.location='/pages/loodgieters.php';"> <img alt="Loodgieters" title="Loodgieters" src="/core/loodgieters.png" style="border:0; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; margin-top:10px; display: block;" /></td> Again: it all works as I expected in IE, Safari and Chrome, but it does not in Firefox. The whole page validates as XHTML 1.0 Transitional What am I overlooking here? I'm stuck. Any help is welcome Hi there, i have this simple script that replaces the scrollbar of an iframe called iFrame1 with 2 up and down arrow images, but it only works in IE, i've tried it in Chrome and Firefox... here is the code Code: <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> function bsh_iFrame1(step,time){hs_iFrame1=setInterval("sh_iFrame1("+step+")",time)} function esh_iFrame1(){clearInterval(hs_iFrame1)} function sh_iFrame1(step) { scrollx=iFrame1.document.body.scrollLeft scrolly=iFrame1.document.body.scrollTop scrolly=scrolly+step iFrame1.window.scroll(scrollx,scrolly) } </script> Code: </td><td align="center" valign="middle" width="31"><img src="up.png" alt="up" border=0 vspace="5" hspace="3" onMouseDown="esh_iFrame1();bsh_iFrame1(-3,2)" onMouseUp="esh_iFrame1();bsh_iFrame1(-1,20)" onMouseOver="bsh_iFrame1(-1,20)" onMouseOut="esh_iFrame1()"><br> <img src="down.png" alt="down" border=0 vspace="5" hspace="3" onMouseDown="esh_iFrame1();bsh_iFrame1(3,2)" onMouseUp="esh_iFrame1();bsh_iFrame1(1,20)" onMouseOver="bsh_iFrame1(1,20)" onMouseOut="esh_iFrame1()"> thanks in advance for any answers... i have a script that measures the window size and - at this point - only adjusts the width of one css element. first function: Quote: var myWidth = 0, myHeight = 0; function getWindowSize() { if( typeof( window.innerWidth ) == 'number' ) { //Non-IE myWidth = window.innerWidth; myHeight = window.innerHeight; } else if( document.documentElement && ( document.documentElement.clientWidth || document.documentElement.clientHeight ) ) { //IE 6+ in 'standards compliant mode' myWidth = document.documentElement.clientWidth; myHeight = document.documentElement.clientHeight; } else if( document.body && ( document.body.clientWidth || document.body.clientHeight ) ) { //IE 4 compatible myWidth = document.body.clientWidth; myHeight = document.body.clientHeight; } // window.alert( 'Width = ' + myWidth ); // window.alert( 'Height = ' + myHeight ); } second function: Quote: //changecss JavaScript Functions by Shawn Olson //Copyright 2006-2008 //http://www.shawnolson.net function changecss(theClass,element,value,sheet) { //Last Updated on October 10, 1020 //documentation for this script at //http://www.shawnolson.net/a/503/altering-css-class-attributes-with-javascript.html //ms: 5.5.11 added sheet: you have to point at the stylesheet by number var cssRules; var added = false; var mySheet = document.styleSheets[sheet]; if (mySheet['rules']) { cssRules = 'rules'; } else if (mySheet['cssRules']) { cssRules = 'cssRules'; } else { //no rules found... browser unknown } for (var R = 0; R < mySheet[cssRules].length; R++) { if (mySheet[cssRules][R].selectorText == theClass) { if(mySheet[cssRules][R].style[element]){ mySheet[cssRules][R].style[element] = value; added=true; break; } } } if(!added){ try{ mySheet.insertRule(theClass+' { '+element+': '+value+'; }',mySheet[cssRules].length); } catch(err){ try{mySheet.addRule(theClass,element+': '+value+';');}catch(err){} } } } i call the function in a php script that is to rule out that the server is talking to a mobile device, however, it echos javascript and a document ready function: Quote: $useragent=$_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']; if(preg_match('/android|...(non relevant code)...|zte\-/i',substr($useragent,0,4))) { echo '<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="1" />'; //the above never happens as i am testing on big screen } else { //echo '<link id="screensize" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="stylesheet.php?cssid=47&mediatype=screen" />'; echo '<script type="text/javascript">'; echo '$(document).ready(function() { getWindowSize(); //ms: these variables come back: myWidth, myHeight if (myWidth >=1225) { changecss(".core-pageWidth","width","1225px",1); } else if (myWidth >1000) { myWidth=myWidth - 20; changecss(".core-pageWidth","width",myWidth+"px",1); } else if (myWidth >910) { myWidth=myWidth - 20; changecss(".core-pageWidth","width",myWidth+"px",1); } }); </script>'; } the changecss() does not work in https but works fine in http. is this to be expected? mario |
