JavaScript - Making My Script Smoother
Hey,
I recently made my first ever ajax chat, and works given im a noob im quite happy about it :P How ever, sadly - its not smooth like some ajax chat's i've seen out there. And when i submit a message to teh chat the page refreshes. I was wondering if some one could help me by explaining how i can improve the efficientcy of it so it won't refresh and reacts alot quicker to create a live effect - its not totally as good as i hoped. This is what i got for my code: Code: <script type="text/JavaScript"> function sendMessage() { $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "chatpost.php", async: false, data: "message="+$("#myMessage").val(), }); } function updateShouts(){ $('#chatArea').load('chat.php'); } setInterval( "updateShouts()", 2000 ); </scrip> /////////////////////////FORM////////////////////////// <div id="chatArea" style="height:500px;"></div> <form onSubmit="sendMessage()" method="POST"> <input type="texT" id="myMessage" class="blank" style="width:74%;"> <input type="button" class="blank" value="Send Message" onclick="sendMessage();"> </form> The PHP is chat.php loads the chat (a MYSQL query getting latest 20 chat messages and loops them out into the div) chatpost inserts the message to the table! Hope you can give this newbie some guidance Similar TutorialsHello.. I'm in a Web Development basics class at my College. We are about two weeks in as we've blew through HTML and CSS. Anyway.. to the question. So for this class I need to make a website with terms and their definitions. The definitions have to be in Javascript and make them show up with an alert. The problem is, I can't figure out how to have unique functions that I can somewhat link with the button. Quote: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function show_alert() { alert('term definition ONE ') } </script> </head> <body> <input type="button" value="term definition ONE " onclick="show_alert()" /> <input type="button" value="term definition TWO " onclick="show_alert()" /> </body> </html> Making a new button would just link to the script that's in the <head> giving the same definition. It's almost like I need to give each function a variable that matches up with each button, since I have multiple terms.. I hope you get what I'm trying to say. Hi guys i want to make my javascript open the link in the same window instead of opening up i new tab, i know this should be basic but for some reason i can't figure it out, ill post the code below, thanks Code: for (var i=0; i <UN.length; i ++) { if (( UN[i].toLowerCase() == uname.toLowerCase() ) && (PW[i] == pword)) { alert ("User name and password matched!"); valid = true; window.open('http://www.google.com'); When I paste the adsense code on my website home page, between lines 387 and 397, the ad doesn't show. Much more strangely, it makes the ad coming from line 408 disappear - that one was visible before. Any ideas why? my site is roboticmagazine.com Thanks Hi All, I have two scripts which I want to try and integrate. I am using a nice gallery script to show thumbnails which are appended to a an image wrapper which on click of the thumbnail shows the larger image in the image wrapper, I am trying to implement cloud zoom which is a plugin which uses image srcs to then point to an anchor href to show another larger zoom image either in the same place.. which is what I am trying to do or in another div beside. I have had to set me img srcs up in a certain way to easily enter some product details. and I need to try an manipulate the code to make it work to suit my file layout. I am using a var= images [ with a series of file locations and info such as below { src: 'romanticabride/thumbs/tn_Shauna.jpg', srcBig: 'romanticabride/images/Shauna.jpg', title: 'Shauna', longDescription: '<b><H1>Shauna</H1></b><br><b>Romantica Of Devon <br><br><h2>Sizes Available:</h2><br> 6 - 32.<b><br><b><br><b><b><b><H2>Colours Available:</h2><b><br>Various<br>Please Enquire Below<br><br><br><br><a href="mailto:tracy@cherishbridal.co.uk?subject=Web Enquiry Regarding Romantica Shauna Bridal Gown"class="enquiry rose glow" >Click To Enquire About This Item </a>' }, what I need is for cloud zoom to work when the main image wrapper is hovered over which means it will need to add a class or when the whichever srcBig: is hovered over it gets wrapped by href to make the script work . one of my pages is http://www.cherishbridal.co.uk/romaticabride.html the cloud zoom script is at http://www.professorcloud.com/mainsite/cloud-zoom.htm.. I am happy to share a jsfiddle with someone or explain further or post some code. Thank you in advance Okay so to be short, I'm trying to make a script similar to a link checker but instead of having to input each link in one by one and click a button (A button saying Validate, for instance), I was looking for something that would do it automatically? Example - 1. First I input the link http://www.example.com/posts.php?do=1000000000 and click Start or Validate. 2. After clicking Start or Validate, the validator or script would begin checking links, modifying the http://www.example.com/posts.php?do=1000000000 to http://www.example.com/posts.php?do=1000000001 and so on and so on, until it reached all 9's. 3. After the scanning, every existent link (Meaning links that didn't give the 404, or re-direct to another page) would be displayed in the page below or a log file. I really appreciate the help everyone, since I'm still into learning about Javascript. Thanks in advance! I have a script that works in seamonkey(my html editor) but when I use it in IE8 it says errors happen. Here's the code (the first line is on line 7 of the html file): Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function enlarge(imageNum) { var numToString = ""; if(parseInt(imageNum) < 10){ numToString = "0" + imageNum; } else { numToString = imageNum + ""; } window.open("images/LgScreenshot"+numToString+".jpg","Screenshot "+imageNum,"status=0,height=675,width=900,resizable=0"); } </script> And the errors: Webpage error details User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.0; Trident/4.0; GTB0.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Media Center PC 5.0; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; InfoPath.3; .NET CLR 3.0.30729) Timestamp: Wed, 10 Feb 2010 14:58:16 UTC Message: Object expected Line: 150 Char: 1 Code: 0 URI: http://samssc2site.co.cc/Features.html Message: Invalid argument. So far I'll drop a bunch of buttons down that all onclick to a function (a,b) and then it will add or w/e then return. How would I incorporate multiple methods such as subtraction or multiplication though? Basically I'm confident I the ability to code or learn to make this calculator, just have no idea how to set this up, thanks. Hello, I'm un-sure on what I should have called this topic so sorry for the possibly mis-leading topic name. Firstly, my menu bar is attached to the top of the clients screen as seen here. Secondly, I've been wondering how could I make it so when a button is pressed another div around 40px in height would appear above it(that div is also attached to the clients screen). For example I saw http://9gag.com/, when you click on search button in the top right hand corner the search bar appears ontop of the menu bar. My JavaScript knowledge is very limited, I know how to make a div appear with the click of a button, but how can I make it be attached to the top of the clients browser and the menu bar in under it? I'm working on making a searchable javascript and DOM reference...A chm like what php has. I mainly need it for myself because I don't always have access to the net. I was wondering if anyone would like to contribute? Right now I am using the following method to show/hide divs containing videos. html Code: <div class="vidPop" id="vidPop"> <div class="vidFrame" id="vidFrame"> <iframe id="Iframe1" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/xxxxxxx1" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0"></iframe> <div class="vidClose"><a href="#" onclick="vidPopdown()"><img src="images/closeban.png" width="52" height="52" alt="close" /></a></div> </div> </div> <div class="vidPop2" id="vidPop2"> <div class="vidFrame2" id="vidFrame2"> <iframe id="Iframe2" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/xxxxxxx2" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0"></iframe> <div class="vidClose"><a href="#" onclick="vidPopdown2()"><img src="images/closeban.png" width="52" height="52" alt="close" /></a></div> </div> </div> js Code: function vidPopup() { var o = document.getElementById('vidPop'); o.style.visibility = 'visible'; o = document.getElementById('vidFrame'); o.style.visibility = 'visible'; } function vidPopdown() { var o = document.getElementById('vidPop'); o.style.visibility = 'hidden'; o = document.getElementById('vidFrame'); o.style.visibility = 'hidden'; document.getElementById('Iframe1').src = document.getElementById('Iframe1').src } function vidPopup2() { var o = document.getElementById('vidPop2'); o.style.visibility = 'visible'; o = document.getElementById('vidFrame2'); o.style.visibility = 'visible'; } function vidPopdown2() { var o = document.getElementById('vidPop2'); o.style.visibility = 'hidden'; o = document.getElementById('vidFrame2'); o.style.visibility = 'hidden'; document.getElementById('Iframe2').src = document.getElementById('Iframe2').src } all of this works just fine, but now I am adding yet another video, and I know that this isn't the best way to go about doing this. I ought to be able to use 1 function and tell it which iframe to load, however I dont really know javascript. Any and all help on this would be greatly appreciated. Hi all, I have a client who wants a gallery of images to pop up on her enter page similar to this site, http://bit.ly/mUscmo . It won't be identical, but she likes the way the images all pop up and then just stay there. I know how to function JavaScript, but I don't know how to write it from scratch. Is there any where I could find a code that does something similar to this? Or, does anyone know the basic coding that I'd need for this? Thanks! Q I'm sure this question has been asked, but I tried searching for this answer using many different keywords, but I don't know the correct terminology for my question, as the search results turn up other topics. I'm wondering if there's simple code for clicking on a thumbnail to have a larger version of the picture appear above, but still within, the same webpage, and the background darkens a little. The larger picture has a "close" button, which you click to get back to the underlying original page. An very simple example of the type I'm looking for is he http://www.salon.com/comics/tomo/200...omo/index.html I'm assuming this is a java script that does this. I'm using DreamWeaver. Does Adobe have this type of coding in their "Spry" coding? If not, is there a simple template of the code out there? Thank you for any help. I have an assignment for a class that I am not sure how to approach. A string, a noun, is input and the program is supposed to make it plural based on the ending. If it ends in a double consonant then I add one ending, if it ends in a vowel I add a different one and then if it ends in two vowels or two consonants I add a third, different ending. I am supposed to do this using string methods. For the project the vowels are A, C, L, and S. I have to read the data in using the string tokenizer. I am not sure how to approach making the loops I need to use to make the words plural. Can anyone help?? EDIT: I have to use if statements to do this. can u like make games like pong wikth javascript? my friend said he did, but i dont think u can.
I'm not very experienced with javascript, but I have a bit of code that works perfectly for me that expands/collapses a div without any animation from top to bottom. I'm looking for the same exact code that lets me expand/collapse from left to right. I've done my due diligence and have search many forums with limited luck (I've only found one that is animated that I can't turn off the animation). Can someone point me in the right direction to code that does exactly the same as what I've posted below except from left to right? Code: // code to keep collapsed on opening function pageLoad() { collapseAll($('wrapper1-sub','wrapper2-sub','wrapper3-sub','wrapper4-sub','wrapper5-sub','wrapper6-sub','wrapper7-sub','wrapper8-sub','wrapper9-sub','wrapper10-sub','wrapper11-sub','wrapper12-sub')); } addEvent(window,'load',pageLoad); //code to work the collapse function switchMenu(obj) { var el = document.getElementById(obj); if ( el.style.display != "none" ) { el.style.display = 'none'; } else { el.style.display = ''; } } function collapseAll(objs) { var i; for (i=0;i<objs.length;i++ ) { objs[i].style.display = 'none'; } } function $() { var elements = new Array(); for (var i = 0; i < arguments.length; i++) { var element = arguments[i]; if (typeof element == 'string') element = document.getElementById(element); if (arguments.length == 1) return element; elements.push(element); } return elements; } function addEvent( obj, type, fn ) { if (obj.addEventListener) { obj.addEventListener( type, fn, false ); EventCache.add(obj, type, fn); } else if (obj.attachEvent) { obj["e"+type+fn] = fn; obj[type+fn] = function() { obj["e"+type+fn]( window.event ); } obj.attachEvent( "on"+type, obj[type+fn] ); EventCache.add(obj, type, fn); } else { obj["on"+type] = obj["e"+type+fn]; } } var EventCache = function(){ var listEvents = []; return { listEvents : listEvents, add : function(node, sEventName, fHandler){ listEvents.push(arguments); }, flush : function(){ var i, item; for(i = listEvents.length - 1; i >= 0; i = i - 1){ item = listEvents[i]; if(item[0].removeEventListener){ item[0].removeEventListener(item[1], item[2], item[3]); }; if(item[1].substring(0, 2) != "on"){ item[1] = "on" + item[1]; }; if(item[0].detachEvent){ item[0].detachEvent(item[1], item[2]); }; item[0][item[1]] = null; }; } }; }(); addEvent(window,'unload',EventCache.flush); Hello, To start I want to say I'm a newbie at coding/programming and all that so I would appreciate a lot if the explanations would be more thorough. I have a wordpress website (so i guess it can run javascript) and I want to create these tables where certain rows could be clicked and would expand for more information, I made an image for an illustration http://i44.tinypic.com/hurdoz.png . I would so appreciate any help that could tell simple steps how to achieve this, I guess this is a trivial problem to some of you but to me.. i don't know where to begin so yeah, I'm waiting for anything :] dear all i have some read only text box which i want to get in write mode the code i am trying is.. function f2(txt1,txt2,txt3) { document.form1.txt1.readOnly=false; document.form1.txt2.readOnly=false; document.form1.txt3.readOnly=false; } <input type="text" value="<%=rset.getString(1)%>" readonly id="tex" class="tb2" name="u_name_0"></td> <td><input type="text" value="<%=rset.getString(2)%>" readonly class="tb2" name="u_pass_0"></td> <td><input type="text" value="<%=rset.getString(3)%>" readonly class="tb2" name="u_role_0"></td> <td><input type="submit" value="delete" name="submit_<%= i%>" class="tb3"></td> <td><input type="button" value="update" onClick="f2('u_name_0','u_pass_0','u_role_0')"></td> but its not working.. some body help me out.. Hi, just a quick question. Is it possible to make an array lowercase at all? or can you only do this with a string? Thanks. OK Once again not out to spam . I am confused on this assignment? this is what i need to do The Sieve of Eratosthenes An integer is a prime number if it is evenly divisible by only itself and 1. There are several ways to find all prime numbers within a given range of integers, and the Sieve of Eratosthenes is an algorithm for to do just that. It operates as follows: Create an array with all elements initialized to 1 (true). Array elements with prime subscripts will remain as 1. All other array elements will eventually be set to zero. Starting with array subscript 2 (subscript 1 must be prime), every time an array element is found whose value is 1, loop through the remainder of the array and set to zero every element whose subscript is a multiple of the subscript for the element with value 1. For array subscript 2, all elements beyond 2 in the array that are multiples of 2 will be set to zero (subscripts 4, 6, 8, 10, etc.); for array subscript 3, all elements beyond 3 in the array that are multiples of 3 will be set to zero (subscripts 6, 9, 12, 15, etc.); and so on. When this process is complete, the array elements that are still set to 1 indicate that the subscript is a prime number. These subscripts can then be printed. Write a script that uses an array of 1000 elements to determine and print the prime numbers between 1 and 999. Ignore element 0 of the array. Ok for anyone who may understand, what am i supposed to create as output? Am i supposed to get a one big chart of numbers? or do i get a forever flow of numbers? suggestions please I am not really looking for code, just want some idea of what am i supposed to make as output? thanks |
