JavaScript - Change Image On Webpage By Checking Txt File On Site?
I'm try to set up a webpge that will play a live flash video on the left-hand side(got that part working) and display one slide of a presentation(jpg) to the right of the video. I would like to be able to control when the slide image changes by having some js check a text file on my server. The text file could contain something as simple as "Slide1.jpg". I will manipulate the text file with some code I've already written.
Is there some simple js code I can put in my page that will cause it to check the text file every 5 seconds, and if the content of the file has changed, to refresh the image on the page with the new image? I'm try to get away from the "clicking" sound that is caused by doing a simple refresh of an Iframe. I'm a complete novice at js, so any help would be appreciated. I'm also open to other solutions that would accomplish the same thing. Thanks, Mike Similar TutorialsSay I have a website, that I want to use an iframe with. Would be possible, to use Javascript to change the logo image of an iframe of myspace (just for the example), to one on my site? So switch the logo of myspace with one on my server? Is this possible? Thanking You, Santosh Srinivas.G Hello, Is there a way using javascript to have it check if a file exists on the server? I'm trying to check for a file on my server without having to refresh the open webpage. If this can't be done with javascript, do you know which webpage languange can execute this? Thanks I maintain a website for a small local restaurant. I do this with FrontPage so I know very little coding. Hello all, I am new here and have a question about a AP Div I am using as a dropin. It drops in when the page loads and I would like it to only drop in if a visitor clicks a link I designate as the dropin link. Can someone please tell me how to accomplish this? I am pasting in the js file and I will also need to know how to set up the "a href" link to call the dropin! Thanks is advance for any help you may give! Code: // JavaScript Document var ie=document.all var dom=document.getElementById var ns4=document.layers var calunits=document.layers? "" : "px" var bouncelimit=32 //(must be divisible by 8) var direction="up" function initbox(){ if (!dom&&!ie&&!ns4) return crossobj=(dom)?document.getElementById("dropin").style : ie? document.all.dropin : document.dropin scroll_top=(ie)? truebody().scrollTop : window.pageYOffset crossobj.top=scroll_top-250+calunits crossobj.visibility=(dom||ie)? "visible" : "show" dropstart=setInterval("dropin()",50) } function dropin(){ scroll_top=(ie)? truebody().scrollTop : window.pageYOffset if (parseInt(crossobj.top)<100+scroll_top) crossobj.top=parseInt(crossobj.top)+40+calunits else{ clearInterval(dropstart) bouncestart=setInterval("bouncein()",50) } } function bouncein(){ crossobj.top=parseInt(crossobj.top)-bouncelimit+calunits if (bouncelimit<0) bouncelimit+=8 bouncelimit=bouncelimit*-1 if (bouncelimit==0){ clearInterval(bouncestart) } } function dismissbox(){ if (window.bouncestart) clearInterval(bouncestart) crossobj.visibility="hidden" } function truebody(){ return (document.compatMode && document.compatMode!="BackCompat")? document.documentElement : document.body } window.onload=window.setTimeout(initbox,5000); I am using this fancy box code to smoothly pop up an image on click, I got it working on my main index page but that's not where I want to put it. My site has a menu where it loads webpages inside the main index one, I would like to use the code on one of those pages but something is not working. I am not able to use the specified DOCTYPE but find that it works all the same with my current one, however if I use the given one in addition to the one I have now (and need) then my site does not work properly, further if I replace it I get the same results. My existing doctype: Code: <DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd" "http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/REC-html401-19991224/loose.dtd" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> What the code uses: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> I'm not sure what the differences are but I've been advised that I need to run the code in "standards mode" before I try to fix it. As I see it the code works, just not where I need it to, nothing unusual on my site and nothing unusual that I may be wrong. On my site you can see at the bottom right a blue text link called "aaaa" this is the code that works, however (clicking the dome to the left of that to scroll the page down and selecting the "met.a has guts" menu option diagram) you'll see the "aaaa" link again at the bottom left of that page and that is where I need it to work from. I even tried using the exact code from the example in that linked .htm page but it doesn't make a difference, it probably even hinders the code as it looks at the main html page. But if loading the page on its own the code will work, so its related to the menu and the way that works. If anybody can help that would be brilliant, I'm sure its something simple. Thanks! Hi, I have a JS file on site A which needs a few parameters from a short text file on site B. Since crossing domain boundaries in JS is problematic, the way I do it is that the JS actually opens an intermediate PHP file on site A which redirects to the destination page in site B. Here's how it goes: The call is made through: Code: On SiteA.com/myfile.js var theFile = getFile("intermediate.php"); var lines = theFile.split("\n"); var var1 = lines[1]; var var2 = lines[2]; var var3 = lines[3]; On SiteA.com/intermediate.php: <?php include("http://www.mySiteB.com/theTextFile.txt"); ?> The problem is that this takes a long time. I would really like to speed this up. For example - I thought of using a direct IP address, so that there won't be any need a DNS server (using Code: include("http://123.45.67.89/~myUsername/mySiteB/theTextFile.txt"); ) but this would expose me to hackers as it would make my Hostgator username visible. According to HG support the above format is the only way to access my subsite via direct IP. Any ideas on how to speed this up, either by bypassing DNS (but without exposing username) or by offering another way of reading data across sites? Suggestions for both JS and PHP files would be appreciated. I cannot set up a CDN here. This is really important for me! THANK YOU!!! Hi, I am kinda new to java scripting and here is what i am trying to do. I have a folder "A" with 10 files, all with .txt extensions in it. I want a java script to open all the 10 files in the folder "A" and change the extensions to .js and save it in a folder "B". Can some one help. Thanks a lot in advance. Hello to all ... I am very basic on this of javascript, so someone could help me how to resolve this issue. I have a javascript (HTML internal), which fetches and executes a file in another web address... but I do not want it to do that, i want this script to execute is function directly from my local disk (file location). Here is the script; Code: <html> <head></head> <body> <div style="WIDTH: 984px; HEIGHT: 443px" > <script type="text/javascript"> var previewConfigs = [{ type: 'flash', preview_url: "http://myflashtest.com/files/9083/preview.swf", base: "http://myflashtest/files/9083/" }]; </script> <span id="large_item_preview"> <object style="visibility: visible; Z-INDEX: 0; WIDTH: 590px; HEIGHT: 300px; TOP: -51px; LEFT: -27px; " id="large_item_preview_container" data="srcs-ff/preview.swf"></object> </span> <script type="text/javascript" src="srcs-ff/jquery.js"> </script> <script type="text/javascript" src="srcs-ff/preview.js"> </script> <script type="text/javascript"> if (typeof(previewConfigs) !== 'undefined') { for (var i = 0; i < previewConfigs.length; i += 1) { var preview = new ItemPreview(previewConfigs[i]); preview.display(); }; }; </script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $("tr[data-accessor=source]").click(); }); </script> </div> </body> </html> <b>What I want is to change this part;</b>; preview_url: "http://myflashtest.com/files/9083/preview.swf", base: "http://myflashtest/files/9083/" So, I have to rely on a third party external JS file to load into a site of mine. Problem is I have to have it (for ads), but once every blue moon the server fails to repond to the request (its down or unresponsive), and thus because the JS can't load, the site hangs. Is there a reliable js/ajax etc.. mechanism that I can use to set an allotted time and if the js isn't loaded, cancel the call or stop it so the page can load? Please advise. Caveats: I cannot host it, I cannot use php. Basically I was given a script call and I include it in the header of the page. I don't have alot of room to host, use various technologies etc.. other than what I am able to use without any backend/app scripting. I am trying for a javascript code that would ask for the excel file location when run, fetch data from two columns till eof in an excel file (MS Excel 2010), append it to an existing text file and upload the plain text file to an ftp location. The ftp username, password and location needs to be hard coded in the script. Is this possible? I Need some help with mouse overs. I have 2 images, Image A and Image B. I need to mouse over Image A and have Image B change. Please help.
Hi there, I have found some script to auto change an image on my website, but i would like to do this in 2 other places using completely new pictures. for ease i have set up 3 cells in a table and would like them to appear in each cell. Can any body help altering my code to allow this. The code i have so far is Code: <html lang="en"> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> var c=0 var s function photoGallery() { if (c%4==0){ document.getElementById('photo-gallery').src = "boots.jpg"; } if (c%4==1){ document.getElementById('photo-gallery').src = "adidas.jpg"; } if (c%4==2){ document.getElementById('photo-gallery').src = "play.jpg"; } if (c%4==3){ document.getElementById('photo-gallery').src = "argos.jpg"; } c=c+1 s=setTimeout("photoGallery()",1000) } </script> </head> <body onLoad="photoGallery()"> <table border="1"> <tr> <td><img src="amazon.jpg" id="photo-gallery" width="420" height="260"></td> <td>another image loop here</td> <td>and another image loop here</td> </tr> </table> </body> </html> Thank you in advance Can anyone link me to code that will change an image everyweek to an image that I define? I have 52 different images, one for every week.
i am trying to use the most simple code i can to onmouseover of some text change 1 image. it will have multiple texts with different images for each one all displayed in one place. it seems to work well for me in IE, but on firefox the mouseover doesn't work. and on a mac it doesn't work in safari or firefox. any input is appreciated... here is the shortest version of the code i could put together. Code: <head> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JAVASCRIPT"> <!-- function roll(img_name1, img_src1) { document[img_name1].src = img_src1; } //--> </SCRIPT> </head> <body> <a href="2_17_10/index.html" onmouseover="roll('poster','2_17_10/IMG_7075b.jpg')">2-17-10</a> <img src="2_16_10/IMG_7072.jpg" name="poster" width=500></img> </body> </html> Hey everyone, I'm making a bit of a weird site on a server with no php, mysql etc. To save me work, I've included the header and footer using AJAX but would like to change the relevant nav bar image to the rollover image if the visitor is on that page. My javascript skills are TERRIBLE, but I came up with this anyway and was going to put it inbetween the <a> tags where the image currently sits. Probably for a very obvious reason unknown to me, the page just loads indefinitely making nothing work. Here's what I've got: Code: if (window.location='index.html') { document.write('<img src="images/key/home-r.jpg" name="home" onMouseOver="over(5)" onMouseOut="out(5)">') } else {document.write('<img src="images/key/home.jpg" name="home" onMouseOver="over(5)" onMouseOut="out(5)">')} Thanks so much for any help at all. Code: function greet() { var hour = (new Date()).getHours(); var when = (hour > 17) ? "evening" : ( (hour > 11) ? "afternoon" : "morning" ); document.write('<img src="' + when + '.png" alt="Good ' + when + '">\n');} This script puts up a png which gives a greeting depending on the time of day. I want instead to put the greeting as text. It's a bit ostentacious as it is.. I would appreciate any pointers. Site is here. Thank you. |
