JavaScript - Javascript Array Question?

I want to create a script that reads the text in an anchor <a> tag, and if the parent node is a td tag, I want to sort the text in the <a> tag alphabetically.

Im not sure if this would require an array or not... but one important point is the text being read would be something like Miami - Detroit or Buffalo - New York

two team names separated by a hyphen. This is what I had, but again.. not sure if it needs an array in order to work, or if the '-' is important.. BUT i only want to sort by the First letter of the first team listed so Arizona - Oakland would be sorted above San Francisco - Atlanta

the correct data return should be:

carouselWidth = 500
carouselMaxImages = 4
carouselCurrentImg = 0

but instead, I'm getting:

carouselWidth = c
carouselMaxImages = a
carouselCurrentImg = r

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

hi, if i have an array of "hop", "skip", "jump" "run", how do i prompt the user to enter a number between 1 and 4 to bring back one of the array list without using an if or switch statement...

the code i have so far is:

numbers= new Array();
numbers[0]="hop";
numbers[1]="skip";
numbers[2]="jump";
numbers[3]="run";

Is there a way to create new lines on a array. so if a array cald questions and theres two value questions [0] and questions [1] can i make a function that would create a questions [2]. So i am also wondering if i could do things with a array like sql?

Ok...this is gonna sound very stupid to you guys, but I don't get one part of this code.

What does result[i]=i mean?
I know it adds the value of i into the array, but how?
Why couldn't you just write it as result[i] or result[] = i?

I have a bit of code that I can't decipher, beginner that I am.

This code loads an image from a zip file and the tmp variable is passed to the id attribute in the html img tag. It works as is, but what I want to do is pass an array element containing the image name to the function from within the tag and have the function return directly rather than using the #tmp variable. The html page I'm working with has 98 images, so calling this function from within the img tag seems the way to go rather than having 98 separate instances of the function wit 98 separate tmp variables. What I don't understand is what function($) means or why tmp has the hash in front. I had assumed the hash was some sort of pointer reference but I wasn't able to find any documentation on it.
Can anyone help me out?

I know it's possible to do this in php, but what would the javascript equivalent be?

The following code snippet:
(this.inputArray is already defined and initialized prior to this code sequence)

the first line in the code block should create a new array item and initialize
it with the various assigments in the next lines.
But Firefox complains
"this.inputArray[this.inputArray.length] is not defined".
This is very disconcerting because the code has to create array items
with different data based on conditionals. So I must be able to automatically create new items as necessary. I thought that javascript had 'late binding', but maybe that doesn't apply here.

So, does anyone have a clue for me?

Hi, what would be the best way to have a hidden array of possible text directed at a textarea and then if something is not within that array "onfocus", a certain select option is chosen within that form?

My professor is making us complete some stupid class project for finals and I can't figure it out! He suggested that we may try to find a JavaScript Website to help us if we have trouble figuring out how to write the code.

I have looked and looked and can't find out how to fix my code!!

We have to write code to make a slot machine ..

I have started the code based on what he gave us and have tried my hardest to figure out how to complete it but I do not know how to finish it.

I have the images working correctly (kind of.. the second one seems to have problems loading? I dunno what I did to mess that up) and the counter working, but I need to make it add 13 credits when all 3 images are the same. I added code that I thought would work but it's not for some reason that I can't figure out. It should also pop up an alert screen when all 3 are correct and you win. I guess this would have to be including with the if statement and something like alert('You win 12 credits!!!')

Lastly I need to add code that prevents the person from playing when the credit line is 0 (so you can't get - credits!) and I have no idea how to do this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not really looking for someone to fix/answer this for me, but maybe give me a hit in the right direction. I need to fix this while loop to run correctly, but has errors in the code. This code is supposed to fill an array with numbers 1 through 100 and then print them.

I'm trying to figure out this question that was assigned to me, as I haven't done alot on javascript before but I've tried to get most of this, I'm just not sure if this is correct. If anybody could help it would be greatly appreciated.

The question is as follows:

You are provided with a string array called country that contains the name of every country that the Ski Club visits. For example one element of this array might be as follows:

country[0] = "Austria"

Another array called villages contains strings with information on village names and altitude in a particular country. For example:

villages[0] = "Austria:Seefield 850m*";

Write a JavaScript function snowReport(countryIndex) that will use the arrays provided to write a report of all villages that include a given country. The function will be passed an integer representing the index of an element of the country array.

A match is found if the country appears in a string (Hint use appropriate JavaScript function to evaluate if a country name is contained in a village string.)

All matching villages should be displayed. Output should be displayed in the villages div element you defined in part (a). Output is shown for a search for Austria in Figure 1b.

I have an application that has a menu - one of the choices on that menu is "Contacts" - This menu is controlled by css - I've written a script that will modify the css style setting for "display" and "zindex" for the rule that controls the pull down for contacts - this worked for hover, but I am now trying to change to a click event - I successfully change the rule, but the menu doesn't display - not sure if I'm returning incorrectly form the javascript function or what - here's a code snippet:
