How do i set a page element as a variable and change it?
Ive googled the internet like crazy for an answer for this, but couldnt find it. Im trying to create an animation. My question is, how do i change the width of a div onclick? Essentially, I want it to add one percent of the value of the width of the div every one second.. PHP Code: <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Loading Bar</title> <script> var x = getElementById("loadbar").style.width; function load(){ setTimeout ( "progress()", 1000 ); } function progress(){ x++; } </script> </head> <body> <div id="load" style="border:thin solid #6699FF; width:300px; height:10px"> <div id="loadbar" style="background:#6699CC; width:0%; height:100%"> </div> </div> <a href="#" onclick="load()">Click to load</a> </body> Similar TutorialsOk my menuBarContainer div wont change width or height... Code: function something() { if(section1.delta < 0) do something here; } Hello I am pretty new to AJAX & I am making a simple program to input new text refresh inside the HTML element that has the id='result'. My Problem: - The AJAX script fails when I try to change the text inside 'result' using my code, sometimes a whole new page opens with the text I wanted to put inside the result HTML element. Sometimes I just get a notification that an error occured. - I believe it is because of my function state_changed & using the parameter element_id with the function getElementById(element_id).innerHTML = ...; - It should be easy to see where my problem occurs when you look at my code Any advice on why the script fails & how to fix it would be extremely helpful. Code: var xmlHttp; function ajax_compatible() { // Post: Returns an object if browser is AJAX compatible else false. if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { // users web browser can support AJAX return ( new XMLHttpRequest() ); } else if (window.ActiveXObject) { // users web browser is IE6 and IE5 return ( new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP") ); } else { alert("Unfortunately your browser does not support AJAX."); return null; } } function get_cookie(cookie_name) { if (document.cookie.length > 0) { c_start = document.cookie.indexOf(cookie_name + "="); if (c_start != -1) { c_start = c_start + cookie_name.length+1; c_end = document.cookie.indexOf(";",c_start) if (c_end == -1) { c_end = document.cookie.length; } return unescape(document.cookie.substring(c_start,c_end)) } } return "" } function add_comment() { // Post: Add user comment & rating to database and update new table row. // DO WE NEED TO SEND COOKIE ASWELL OR IS IT ALREADY DONE??? xmlHttp = ajax_compatible(); if (xmlHttp == null) { return; } var url = 'http://localhost:8000/cgi-bin/main.py'; alert("add_comment() running"); // Extract CGI variables to pass onto python script var id = document.getElementById('videoID').value; var video_id = 'videoID=' + id; var rating = 'rating=' + document.getElementsByName('rating').value; var comment = 'comment=' + document.getElementById('comment').value; var add_rating = 'addRating=' + document.getElementById('addRating').value; //var cookie = document.cookie; cgi_var = video_id + '&' + rating + '&' + comment + '&' + add_rating; // + '&' + cookie; // open python script xmlHttp.open('POST',url, true); xmlHttp.setRequestHeader('Content-Type', 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded'); // Error is in below line xmlHttp.onreadystatechange = state_changed(id); // if I use the following line then it works // xmlHttp.onreadystatechange = test; xmlHttp.send(cgi_var); } function state_changed(element_id) { // Post: Use one function that will be used for each page update. // This function sends the text returned by the python server script // onto the browser(HTML element with the id 'element_id') to be displayed. if (xmlHttp.readyState == 4) { document.getElementById(element_id).innerHTML = xmlHttp.responseText; } } function test() { // Post: used to test where the problem occurs // This function works if (xmlHttp.readyState == 4) { document.getElementById('result').innerHTML = xmlHttp.responseText; } } Hey all, I'm a new Javascript coder; it's still pretty easy for me to get snagged on stuff. Anyways, I had a question for a specific project I've been trying to figure out. I have an element set with CSS to a width of 160px. What I want is a way for users to the site to drag a slider back and forth to set the width of the button. Some sort of smooth animation while this is happening would also be nice. I'd also like a way to set a max width on the element. So, can this be done? I'm guessing it would use jQuery, but I don't really know. Does anyone have any ideas? AA Hello. My goal is to load the JS for a specific element before displaying that element. I integrated a third part script, and it works well. I set the timer he The JS is in my heading as <script type="text/javascript" src="countdownpro.js"></script> About mid-body I have: <span id="countdown1">2010-07-20 00:00:00 GMT+00:00</span> which allows for the setting of a target date to countdown to. When the page first loads it shows the above long format target time, until the js/meta tags kick in to modify it to just show the actual countdown as 00:00:00. I have attached countdownpro.js to this post. I tried shifting the function CD_Init() to the top of the script, and also appended it inline with the .html. I tried setting the big external script to "defer", but neither arrangement worked. I also tried placing the src file right at the top. I appreciate your help. Hi, I have a programing problem that have been around for ages. I have search on google using several expressions and words and after hours of digging i'm still unable to do it. I would like to get a value from a HTML page hosted remotely with an inconstant value. Then define this value and name as a javascript variable and apply or show in my page. Thanks for all the help P.S. Is there any way to make a domain lookup in javascript? I mean a user enters a domain and the script converts to an ip and shows to the user. If not thanks, probably it can only be done in the server side... Hey all, So this has been stumping me for the past couple days and I am hoping someone can give me a clue on how this can be done. I have this function that is called when a next button is clicked: Code: function navigateToPage(pageurl){ audfile = null; pauseaudio(); jQuery("#coursecontent").attr("src", pageurl); jQuery("#coursecontent").load(function() { audfile = window.coursecontent.__backgroundaudio; }); //WAIT HERE UNTIL audfile IS NOT NULL playnextsound(); } My problem is that I have content loading in an iframe (coursecontent). I can't call playnextsound() until that content is loaded. I know that I could just put the playnextsound() in the load function but that won't work as I am trying to find a workaround for audio autoplay on the ipad. That is why I am setting the audfile in the load function. I need to wait until audfile is no longer null before calling playnextsound(). The problem is that I can't call playnextsound() from inside any timer or anything because it will cause autoplay audio to not work. I thought maybe a while loop would do the trick but that seems to just create an infinite loop. I would be forever grateful if someone could give me any pointers. From a previous search page that passes 4 form variables via $_GET to a new results.php page. On this results page, I'm building a form with many more choices to refine to refine the search results. But I can't seem to remember the javascript to put into this form to update several $_Get variables in the url and reload the page as things are selected - so that the results are refined with each change they make. I'm sure it was pretty simple. I just don't remember and can't seem to find something does/explains what I want. thanks! Hi all, I've messing around with CSS and I would like to change the <body> 'class' when the user selects a hyperlink. To do this I've employed the OnClick method within the hyperlink which calls the function updateBodyClass(). Within upDateBodyClass() I would like to add the string "extraMenu" to the body class. Before selecting the hyperlink the body is: <body id="twoColLayout" class="tools"> I want this to change to: <body id="twoColLayout" class="tools extraMenu"> This is the code I currently have but it doesn't work. Please can someone point me in the right direction. Thankyou in advance for your time. <html> <head> <title>test</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Script-Type" content="text/javascript"> <script> function updateBodyClass() { document.getElementById("body").className="tools"; document.getElementById("body").className+=" extraMenu" return; } </script> </head> <body id="twoColLayout" class="tools"> <a href="index.php" onClick="updateBodyClass()">Search Bookmarks</a> </body> </html> FYI http://www.hotscripts.com/forums/jav...croll-how.html Hi there, and happy new year. I am looking for a javascript code with the effect used by Google in the following example; http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=che...ient=firefox-a ... whereby the map scrolls with the page once it has been reached by the top of the browser. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. Many Thanks, Patrick. Does anyone know what's wrong with this code because when the page loads, the link is not being hidden Code: window.onload = setTarget; function setTarget() { var theLinks = document.getElementsByTagName('a'); for(var i = 0; i < theLinks.length; i++) { if(theLinks[i].getAttribute('href') == '/subjects/new') { theLinks[i].style.display = "none"; } } } Its about this: http://www.wduffy.co.uk/blog/keep-el...omment-page-1/ Everywhere is used for a whole div on some side and when its on the top of the page. But what if its in the middle..? Look here - http://phpbb.bg/viewtopic.php?f=14&p=1013#p1013 Scroll down and then up.Anyway to fix this? I have a table with td elements containing numbers in one row and td elements containing textareas in the second row like this: http://motionsroom.com/example.html I want to find an easy way for the user to click, draw a rectangle around or whatever around any several numbers so that they they would be put in a single td element instead of two or three (so we would have: "49 and 12" as the new value) and then the textareas below would also merge. Ideally, I would like to have a rectangle like in RTS games but then I would settle on whatever is easy. Is there any way I could do that? Thanks! I have a floating div that stays at the bottom of the browser window while the user scrolls down a long page. The div reads "scroll down for more". How can I determine the current position of the div in relation to the top of the page, not the top of the browser window. I need to determine this because I would like to hide the div when the user scrolls to the top of the last page. I have looked at offsetParent, offsetHeight, scrollHeight, etc. I have the code for everything except determining the position of the div, or the distance of the div from the top of the page. Looking for a simple way to have a hidden element made visible when the page scrolls. The idea is to have a back arrow appear only when the page has been scrolled horizontally. trying something along these lines without success ... Code: <script type="text/javascript"> window.onscroll = function () { if $("back").is(":hidden") { $("back").show("slow"); } } </script> The site is he www.milesjaffe.com. Thanks -- I am trying to set up a script that looks in the code on one page, counts the number of instances of an element by ID, and then delivers that information back to another page in order to set the height for an area on that page. Context: I have a PHP page with an include statement and the included content is overflowing. Scrolls won't emerge (IMO) unless the container PHP page is told what is the height of the included content. I know almost nothing about javascript, so this is becoming a significant challenge. I cobbled together two scripts, just to get started: one that searches for occurrences of a word in a document, and another that converts that information into the height for the "div" tag in my PHP page. Obvious issues: 1) The first script will not search outside of the form for the word occurrence. I don't even want the count to be delivered in a form; I want it passed to the second script without any user involvement at all. 2) I am not sure how to set write the code so that it searches another document entirely. I bookmarked this site thinking that there might be some solutions in there. Code: <script language="Javascript"> function countInstances(string, word) { var substrings = string.split("navpic3"); return substrings.length - 1; } </script> <script type="text/javascript"> var thumbinstance=countInstances var thumbheight=[(50*thumbinstance)+300] function menuspace(images){ document.write("<div style="+'"'+"height: "+thumbheight+"px;"+'"'+">") } </script> <script type="text/javascript">menuspace(255)</script>content</div> <form> <input type="label" name="string" value="navpic3 navpic3"> <input type="button" value="count instances" onClick="document.write(countInstances(string.value))"> </form> Thanks in advance for any help. Elizabeth Hi. I am very new to javascript, so I might not even be wording my question right, but I am going to try and be as concise and specific as possible. I am using jquery on my website- the galleria plugin- to make a slideshow. you can see the completed show he http://www.pauljameswilliams.com/demo2a.html This slideshow will be one of three on my website. Each slide show will opperate the same exact way.I have built in tabbed navifation, and the slideshows will all be accessable under the "portfolio" tab by clicking on their corresponding links. check out the site he http://www.pauljameswilliams.com/portfolio.html As it is I have one slideshow up, although not yet connected to the corresponding link, but the images won't load. My guess is that because the div tag is hidden that the contents don't load propperly and I need the contents to load when the corresponding div tag that it is contained in becomes visible but I don't know how to do that. this is the javascript that I have written to show/hide the <div> tags where the content will live. Three slide shows will live in content_2 and show/hide when the corresponding button is pressed. Code: function tabSwitch(new_tab, new_content) { document.getElementById('content_1').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('content_2').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('content_3').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('content_4').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById(new_content).style.display = 'block'; document.getElementById('btn_1').className = ''; document.getElementById('btn_2').className = ''; document.getElementById('btn_3').className = ''; document.getElementById('btn_4').className = ''; document.getElementById(new_tab).className = 'current'; } thank you- I am really stuck. i promise, i am actually learning javascript, I'm not just trying to get other people to do my work for me. |
