JavaScript - Linking To Javascript Parser Script For Rss Feed
Hi,
I have a javascript app that works fine to parse my bb_feed.xml page pasted below this message. The problem is I need to link to the script instead of including it within the web page. When I try to create the page as a .js file and link to this script from another webpage, it doesn't work. Here's the code that I used to link the .js file that I have named bb_footer.js <script language="javascript" src="bb_footer.js" type="text/javascript"></script> Is there some other way this has to be done? Thanks for any and all possible help... <html> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { xhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); } else // Internet Explorer 5/6 { xhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } xhttp.open("GET","bb_feed.xml",false); xhttp.send(""); xmlDoc=xhttp.responseXML; var x=xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("item"); for (i=0;i<x.length;i++) { document.write("<ul><li><a href=\""); document.write(x[i].getElementsByTagName("link")[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue); document.write("\">"); document.write(x[i].getElementsByTagName("title")[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue); document.write("</a></li></ul>"); } </script> </body> </html> Similar TutorialsSay that I've got the following XML Code: <document> <block key="block1"> <p>This is a <bold>paragraph</bold></p> </block> <block key="block2"> <p>Additional paragraph</p> </block> </document> Obviously the schematics of this data and the constraints placed upon them can be described using XSD. For example, the following rules would apply: * must be a document element as the top-level parent element * must be at least one block element as a child of document * each block must have a unique key value * blocks can have 1...n p child elements. * p elements can have 0...n bold child elements What I'm looking for is an engine that executes on the client-side (JavaScript / jQuery) that can parse the XSD and flag any errors. In addition I would also need to be able to interrogate the engine in order to determine what are valid child nodes at a particular level of the XML. For example, the following types of queries might be asked of the engine: * Q: Is the overall XML valid? A: yes / no + report * Q: I'm looking at the element block (key="block2"). What are the valid child elements of this element? A: p (1...n). * Q: I'm looking at the element p in the first block (key="block1"). What are the valid child elements of this element? A: #text, bold (0...n). Determining the valid child elements of a particular element is something akin to how Visual Studio e.g. 2010 uses Intellisense. For example, given a schema Visual Studio let's you know what the valid elements are at a particular position as you type enter the XML. Finally I've mentioned XSD / XML above but we do not necessarily have to be constrained to these technologies so alternative ideas will be appreciated equally as well. Thank you for taking the time to examine my post. I have this piece of javascript code, which enables me to get my Picasa photos without link back feature, in my webpage. The issue is with the hardcoded RSS url feed. I want this to be dynamically passed as a variable to the java script. I use a PHP code, where this javascript is coded. In the below code, if I say var samples = <?php $url_code ?>, the javascript does not recognize. Can someone help on this, as I use the same PHP code, with different url feeds, to display different picasa photo albums ? Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function load() { var samples = "https://picasaweb.google.com/data/feed/base/user/......................../........./.........?alt=rss&kind=photo&authkey=.....................&hl=en_US" var options = { numresults: 2, scaleimages: true, maintainAspectRatio : false, displayTime: 1000, transistionTime: 300, //linkTarget : google.feeds.LINK_TARGET_BLANK }; new GFslideShow(samples, "slideshow", options); } google.load("feeds", "1"); google.setOnLoadCallback(load); </script> I've searched everywhere for help on how to do this... I have a website for tanning salon services. Salon A's page has links for 4 possible equipment choices -[I] (diamond, platinum, gold, bronze levels) on the Sunbeds page. Sunbeds page has 2 iFrames, top and bottom, that are changed by 4 functions - changediamond(), changebronze(), etc. based on the selection. I need to be able to click a link on the Salon page that will take me to the corresponding function on the Sunbeds page... Here's what I have so far: Salon A page Code: <a href="sunbeds.htm?javascript:changediamond()"><img src="images/nr_diam_sm2.jpg" alt="Diamond Level Sunbeds" /></a> (thru) <a href="sunbeds.htm?javascript:changebronze()"><img src="images/nr_brnz_sm2.jpg" alt="Bronze Level Sunbeds" /></a> Sunbeds page Code: <SCRIPT language="JavaScript"> function changediamond() { parent.FRAME1.location="sb_top_ct1.htm"; parent.FRAME2.location="sb_bot_ct1.htm"; } (thru) function changebronze() { parent.FRAME1.location="sb_top_ct4.htm"; parent.FRAME2.location="sb_bot_ct4.htm"; } </script> . .. ... .. . <a href="javascript:changediamond()"><img src="images/diamond_sm2.jpg" alt="Diamond Level Sunbeds" /></a> (thru) <a href="javascript:changebronze()"><img src="images/bronze_sm2.jpg" alt="Bronze Level Sunbeds" /></a> The links take me to the correct page but not the function. Once I'm there I can select the functions and the iFrame change works great. I'm just at a loss for passing along the data string ie sunbeds.htm?javascript"changediamond() I would certainly appreciate any help and advice you could share. I'm sure it's pretty simple but for a JS newbie, it's frustrating! hey, i am trying to add events to my website...i have all the events stored in my google calender and i am trying to show only four events at the time for example: 10/01/2011 - John's Birthday 12/01/2011 - Party i found this example on google however i am having problems...the problem i am having is that it works fine on my computer however when i look at it on another computer nothing appears http://gdata-javascript-client.googl...le_sample.html thanks hey all. im fairly new to javascript and looking for a little help. first ive got this simple script that takes the value of a form and calls an image based upon the input. Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function showImg() { var val = document.getElementById("rightsphere").value; document.getElementById("image1").src = "lensblank.gif" if (val == 3) {document.getElementById("image1").src = "blank1.jpg"} if (val == 4) {document.getElementById("image1").src = "blank2.jpg"} if (val == 5) {document.getElementById("image1").src = "blank3.jpg"} // and so on </script> <input type = "text" id = "rightsphere" size = "7" onblur = "showImg()"> <img style="position:absolute; left:090px; top:170px" id="image1" src="lensblank.gif" /> this calls up an image based on the submitted input when clicking on the actual image itself. i was wondering how i would go about getting the image1 to change when clicking another image (ie a button entitled 'calculate') thanks in advance update: nevermind. im an idiot. Hello all, first time poster. I recently found this site as I was searching for topics to possibly help me fix my issue. So, without further ado: I've been working on a website for a grass roots Senate hopeful in Colorado, and I was asked to create a bit of interactivity into the site. Now, I'm well versed in XHTML/CSS, but I'm still a fledgling JavaScript writer. I was able to create a set of code that would allow for this to happen: 1.) A person would click on a link in a list of questions. 2.) That question's text would appear in a box on the right. 3.) Below the text from #2, a YouTube video would show using YouTube's embed code. Now, the bit of code was working perfectly and doing exactly what I ask it to. Except, the problem is it for some reason only works for the first and second question, and even though it shows a link for the third question it will not allow you to click on it and this whole thing is killing my brain. I've attempted to debug the code myself, but Firebug and the Mozilla Console show that no errors are running, and since I can't actually click on the link to even see if it would give me an error I'm completely stumped. I've cleared the code out, switched it all around, and for some reason it just won't do it for the third question, regardless of if I switched it out. So, here is the code in question. I'm just going to show the first snippets of it because it is just about copied and pasted over and over again. Code: $(document).ready(function() { $('#q1').click(function() { $('#qbox h3').html('<h3>What have you done to stop illegal aliens from getting taxpayer funded healthcare?</h3>'); $('#abox').html('<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/f9GH-yvPHSY&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/f9GH-yvPHSY&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>'); }); and Code: <tr> <td><h2>Q1:</h2></td> <td><a href="#" id="q1"><p>What have you done to stop illegal aliens from getting taxpayer funded healthcare?</p></a></td> </tr> Anyways, thank you so very much for taking a look at this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Hello Guys I'm new to Javascript I think that the way I have worded the title may be incorrect, as I've googled similar phrases without finding anything to help me Anyway onto the issue I have a dropdown menu you can see it he http://heavywoollen.webs.com It's written in html & css, now I've had to put the code for the dropdown onto every page of the site, simply because at the time that was all i knew how to do, so I'm now trying to reduce it by writing it on JS and link the file into the page so the issue/question I have written the menu in JS, but my question is How is it styled? or how is the css file appiled? in the html I use < div id =" navMenu "> </div> and in the css there is # navMenu so I can understand how that works, but I can't figure out how to apply it into javascript, I think simply because I don't know enough about JS to know what the link tag is, if it exists at the moment the JS file simply reads link this Code: //Admin Options - open <ul> document.write("<ul><li><a href=#>Admin</a><ul><li><a href=index.html>Home</a></li><li><a href=history.html>History</a></li></li><li><a href=constitution.html>Constitution</a></li><li><a href=Code of Conduct.html>Code of Conduct</a></li><li><a href=League Meetings.html>League Meetings</a></li><li><a href=Club Contacts.html>Contacts</a></li><li><a href=League Officials.html>League Officials</a> </li><li><a href=League Policy.html>Policy</a> </li><li><a href=Duty of Care.html>Duty of Care</a> </li><li><a href=Helmets.html>Helmets</a> </li><li><a href=Fielding Regulations.html>Fielding Regs</a> </li><li><a href=Fast Bowling.html>Fast Bowling</a> </li><li><a href=Unfair Bowling.html>Unfair Bowling</a> </li><li><a href=Umpires.html>Umpires</a> </li><li><a href=Laws of Cricket.html>Cricket Law</a> </li><li><a href=CRB.html>CRB Check </a> </li></ul></li>"); //Clubs document.write("<li><a href=#>Clubs</a><ul><li><a href=clubs-adwalton.html>Adwalton</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-altofts.html>Altofts</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-azaad.html>Azaad</a> </li> <li><a href=clubs-batley.html>Batley</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-birstall.html>Birstall</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-brighouse.html>Brighouse</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-carlton.html>Carlton</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-cleckheaton.html>Cleckheaton</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-driglington.html>Drighlington</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-eastardsley.html>East Ardsley</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-gildersome.html>Gildersome</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-gomersal.html>Gomersal</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-hangingheaton.html>Hanging Heaton</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-hartsheadmoor.html>Hartshead Moor</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-holmevalleygirls.html>Holme Valley Girls</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-hunsletnelson.html>Hunslet Nelson</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-liversedge.html>Liversedge</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-methley.html>Methley</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-mirfield.html>Mirfield</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-mirfieldpc.html>Mirfield PC</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-moorlands.html>Moorlands</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-morley.html>Morley</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-newfarnley.html>New Farnley</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-ossett.html>Ossett</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-rothwell.html>Rothwell</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-scholes.html>Scholes</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-townville.html>Townville</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-wakestmichs.html>Wake St Michaels</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-wakethornes.html>Wakefield Thornes</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-westbretton.html>West Bretton</a> </li><li><a href=clubs-wrenthorpe.html>Wrenthorpe</a> </li></ul></li>"); //League Tables & Fixtures document.write("<li><a href=>Leagues</a><ul> <li><a href=fixtures.html>Fixtures/Results</a> </li><li><a href=leaguetables.html>Tables</a> </li></ul></li>"); //Representative document.write("<li><a href=#>Representative</a> <ul> <li><a href=lordtav-u11.html>Lord Taverners U11</a> </li><li><a href=lordtav-u15.html>Lord Taverners U15</a> </li><li><a href=coaching.html>Coaching</a> </li><li><a href=teamwear.html>Team Wear</a> </li></ul></li>"); //Links document.write("<li><a href=#>Links</a> <ul><li><a href=http://www.ecb.co.uk/>ECB</a> </li><li><a href=http://www.ecb.co.uk/development/ecb-coaches-association/>ECB CA</a> </li><li><a href=http://www.yorkshirecb.com/>YCB</a> </li><li><a href=http://www.yorkshirecricketboard.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=103:yorkshire-senior-schools-cricket-association&catid=271:yssca&Itemid=49>YSCA</a> </li><li><a href=http://www.yorkshirewca.co.uk/district.html>YWCA</a> </li><li><a href=http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/agencies-public-bodies/crb/>CRB</a> </li></ul></li>"); //Photo Gallery - closing </ul> document.write("<li><a href=#>Other</a> <ul><li><a href=#>Photo Galllery</a> </li><li><a href=#>Player Registration</a> </li></ul></li></ul>"); Apologies if that is too much code for a post so there is nothing else on the sheet do I need to use a link tag? How do i get the JS file to relate to the #navMenu of the css file? Thanks Rob I have created my website and i have one page that has a spry menu bar with 15 columns. I also have a javascript file that is an image gallery. i want to add that javascript file to my html/css website. not only that but i need that java script file to open on the appropriate image depending on what titled column i have clicked on. any help would be greatly appreciated!
-edit - nevermind. mods plz delete.
i still cant ouput correctly this php parse rss: PHP Code: $doc = new DOMDocument(); $doc->load('http://www.lepoint.fr/content/system/rss/a_la_une/a_la_une_doc.xml'); $count_items=$doc->getElementsByTagName("item"); //echo count($count_items); $title=$doc->getElementsByTagName("item")->item(0)->getElementsByTagName("title")->item(0)->nodeValue; foreach($count_items as $value){ echo "<table border='1'><tr><td>".$value->getElementsByTagName('title')->item(0)->nodeValue."</td><td>".$value->getElementsByTagName('description')->item(0)->nodeType."</td></tr>";} using this js code : Code: <style> div#RSS{width: 700px;height: 600px;border:1px solid gray;} </style> <script> PHPscript="<?php $doc = new DOMDocument();$doc->load('http://www.lepoint.fr/content/system/rss/a_la_une/a_la_une_doc.xml');$count_items=$doc->getElementsByTagName('item');$title=$doc->getElementsByTagName('item')->item(0)->getElementsByTagName('title')->item(0)->nodeValue;foreach($count_items as $value){echo '<table border=\'1\'><tr><td>\'.$value->getElementsByTagName(\'title\')->item(0)->nodeValue.\'<\/td><td>\'.$value->getElementsByTagName(\'description\')->item(0)->nodeType.\'<\/td><\/tr>';} ?>" function ClickRSS(){ document.getElementById("link").onclick=ShowRSS } function ShowRSS(){ div=document.createElement("div"); div.id="RSS"; div.innerHTML=PHPscript; document.body.appendChild(div); } window.onload=ClickRSS; </script> <body> <a href="#no" id="link">LINK</a> </body> Hi I would like to write a parser like the one below except I would like it to take characters with the the digits like 345j, 982p0, what would I change to be able to have characters with numbers? Code: ts.addParser({ id: "digit", is: function (s, table) { var c = table.config; return $.tablesorter.isDigit(s, c); }, format: function (s) { return $.tablesorter.formatFloat(s); }, type: "numeric" }); Ok, This one has plagued me for some time now. I am parsing an XML file for a search feature. On my local machine, the code below works fine in FF, but when I upload it, I get an error stating y[0] (the root element) is undefined. I think the problem may be with my onload method but I can't be sure. Code: function importXML() { if (document.implementation && document.implementation.createDocument) { xmlDoc = document.implementation.createDocument("", "", null); xmlDoc.onload = createTable; } else if (window.ActiveXObject) { xmlDoc = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM"); xmlDoc.async=false; xmlDoc.onreadystatechange = function () { if (xmlDoc.readyState==4) createTable(); } } else { alert('Your browser can\'t handle this script'); return; } xmlDoc.load("catalog.xml"); } // and now for the part that fails var y = xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName('data'); var dcount = 0; for (t=0;t<y[0].childNodes.length;t++) { //this is the line where FF reports the error if (y[0].childNodes[t].tagName == "record") { dcount++; } } The xml syntax is as follows Code: <data> <record> <item 1>text</item 1> <item 2>text</item 2> <item 3>text</item 3> </record> <record> <item 1>text</item 1> <item 2>text</item 2> <item 3>text</item 3> </record> </data> I just can't figure out why this works locally and not on the server. IE works fine, but then again it uses the activeXObject method so it should function differently. Hi, I was wondering how to load an external .php script file in javascript, and make use of a php variable in the javascript. Thanks in advance. EDIT: If this is not possible, is there some way to send the php data to the javascript by using php, and then accessing the data that was sent in the javascript, and making use of it? What I'm trying to do is get a OpenTok session id from a .php script to javascript. I embedded the following into my blog; Code: <br><script language="javascript" src="http://www.quotedb.com/quote/quote.php?action=random_quote&=&=&"></script> <br> It works fine, but I'm trying to find a way to refresh only the script on my blog, instead of having to reload the entire page. Coding a refresh button, for instance. How would I go about doing this? Thank you in advance. Hello all, I'm new to PHP (and web development in general) and have come across something that to me seems really, really bizarre! Background I am currently designing and developing an online enrolment form for my employer, a training company. The form consists of 3 pages - pages 1 and 2 are for data input whilst page 3 is a summary page with only one input, a box to check that the customer agrees to our T&Cs. Page 3 also includes a box where calculations are made as to the price of the selected training course based on choices made earlier in the form. The form displayed on page 2, and some of the text on page 3, changes depending on a choice made on page one - that is, whether they are paying for the course themselves or their employer is funding it. If they choose employer, they get one form, if they choose self funding they get a different one. However, both of these forms are contained within a single .php file, using session variables to decide which one should be displayed. I am using sessions to transfer the data between the pages. Each page has been made sticky using session variables. Real-time validation is carried out using javascript on each individual page, then a final PHP validation check is run on the whole thing when the customer tries to submit the final page. Javascript is also used on page one to calculate the price of the course in real time so the customer can see how much he/she will be paying before proceeding further. The Problem I find this really strange: In Firefox, everything works perfectly In Internet Explorer, when JavaScript is turned off, everything is fine. But when JS is switched on, the PHP validation on the final page seems to go haywire, thus making it impossible to submit the form. In Chrome, again when JS is switched off, everything works, but when switched on, I can't even get past the first page. Instead of loading the correct form for page 2, I just get a blank screen. Can anyone help? This is my first major project and I've been working on it for weeks, coming up against all sorts of problems and tearing my hair out but managing to solve them. Now I'm completely stumped, when I'm almost within touching distance of completion!! I can't post the code here as it's 3 separate documents and very complicated, but if you want to have a look at the form itself go to: http://testing.xenongroupadmin.com/t.../enrolment.php I hope someone can help! Thanks very much! All the best Chris Hi, I have a a-z brand menu on my site. I want the user to be able to select a letter and a list of brands appear. The problem I have is that I want the layer to appear at the position of the mouse (from the top left). I have this working fine but then when you rollover a link (brand) within the layer div it reactivates the call command and re positions the layer to the mouse again. Please Please help. It works fine for numbers such as 1 22 1980. Code: if ((input.search(/\b([1-9]|[12][0-9]|3[01])\b/)!= -1) && (input.search(/\b([1-9]|1[0-2])\b/)!=-1) && (input.search(/\b(19[0-9]{2}|200[0-9]|201[01])\b/)!= -1)) { function getBirth() { var now = new Date(); var myMatchy = input.match(/\b(19[0-9]{2}|200[0-9]|201[01])\b/); var myMatchm = input.match(/\b([1-9]|1[0-2])\b/) var myMatchd = input.match(/\b([1-9]|[12][0-9]|3[01])\b/); var year = myMatchy[0]; var month = myMatchm[0]; var day = myMatchd[0]; var today = { "year" : now.getFullYear(), "month": now.getMonth()+1, "day" : now.getDate() } var age = today["year"] - year; if (month > today["month"]) age--; else if (month == today["month"]) if (day > today["day"]) age-- return age; } document.result.result.value = "Your age is "+getBirth()+"."; return true;} However, if someone writes out the month it doesn't. Such as January 22 1980. I did a work-around by inserting the month value. Highlighted below. But that means I would have to duplicate this lengthy code 12 times for each month of the year. Anybody know a better way to handle this? You can test it in the small attachment below. Any help would be appreciated. I have had to look in the documentation on to do this but there is no clear guide on how to do it. I found this function though which I belieave is the solution: http://www.uploadify.com/documentati.../oncomplete-2/ Here are the functions I am using: Code: 'onComplete' : function(event, ID, fileObj, response, data) { document.write('http://www.cqwebdesign.co.uk' + fileObj.filePath +''); } This works kinda but when it shows the link the page continues loading as if it is stuck in some loop? You can try it out he http://www.cqwebdesign.co.uk/SC2/index.html Thanks |
