JavaScript - Some Basic Help With Js Variables
I have this code, (a snippet of it below) which works, but how can I simplify it instead of repeating all the same code for the 12 different checks I have to run.
If whatColor == A1 I need the search variable to equal fashion If whatColor == A2 I need the search variable to equal photography etc. Thanks Code: if (whatColor == 'A1') { /* search: 'fashion', */ new TWTR.Widget({ version: 2, type: 'search', search: 'fashion', interval: 2000, title: '', subject: '', width: 310, height: 240, theme: { shell: { background: '#edecee', color: '#444444' }, tweets: { background: '#edecee', color: '#444444', links: '#e80f45' } }, features: { scrollbar: true, loop: false, live: true, hashtags: true, timestamp: true, avatars: true, behavior: 'all' } }).render().start(); } else if (whatColor == 'A2') { /* search: 'photography', */ new TWTR.Widget({ version: 2, type: 'search', search: 'photography', interval: 2000, title: '', subject: '', width: 310, height: 240, theme: { shell: { background: '#edecee', color: '#444444' }, tweets: { background: '#edecee', color: '#444444', links: '#e80f45' } }, features: { scrollbar: true, loop: false, live: true, hashtags: true, timestamp: true, avatars: true, behavior: 'all' } }).render().start(); The Code, is from a twitter widget that pulls a twitter feed based on the search variable. This is the code straight from twitter. Code: <script src="http://widgets.twimg.com/j/2/widget.js"></script> <script> new TWTR.Widget({ version: 2, type: 'search', search: 'photography', interval: 2000, title: '', subject: '', width: 310, height: 240, theme: { shell: { background: '#edecee', color: '#444444' }, tweets: { background: '#edecee', color: '#444444', links: '#e80f45' } }, features: { scrollbar: false, loop: false, live: true, hashtags: true, timestamp: true, avatars: true, behavior: 'all' } }).render().start(); </script> Similar TutorialsCan't seem to delete.
First post on the forum... I'm brand new to Javascript and I'm teaching myself using the Headfirst HTML5 book. One of the exercises early in the book is asking me to create a musical playlist where I can add songs that will show up on the screen and also be added to the DOM. However, I'm not able to get it to work or see where my error lies. Any feed back would be great. Here's my code: Code: <!doctype html> <html lang="en"> <head> <title>Webville Tunes</title> <meta charset = "utf-8"> <script> function init() { var button = document.getElementById("addButton"); button.onclick = handleButtonClick; window.onload = init; } function handleButtonClick() { var textInput = document.getElementById("songTextInput"); var songName = textInput.value; var li = document.createElement("li"); li.innerHTML= songName; var ul = document.getElementById("playlist"); ul.appendChild(li); alert ("Button was clicked!"); } </script> <link rel = "stylesheet" href="playlist.css"> </head> <body> <form> <input type="text" id="songTextInput" size="40" placeholder="Song name"> <input type="button" id="addButton" value="Add Song"> </form> <ul id="playlist"> </ul> </body> </html> Hi, I've just started learning JavaScript - actually started about half an hour ago. I have an extensive knowledge of Lua (if you've heard of it), so the concepts of programming aren't new to me. This code isn't doing anything. The HTML code makes the hyper-linked pictured show, but it doesn't do anything when the mouse rolls over it. The JavaScript code is saved in scripts/titleImage_rollover.js, and I'll show the HTML code as well. JavaScript: Code: <!-- // image rollover for header function image_rollover(){ //show a set of random images switch(math.floor(math.random()*5+1)) { case 1: document.getElementById("logo").src = "images/t2m_logo.png"; break; case 2: document.getElementById("logo").src = "images/pighead10_halloween.png"; break; case 3: document.getElementById("logo").src = "images/pighead10_easter.png"; break; case 4: document.getElementById("logo").src = "images/pighead10_classic.png"; break; case 5: document.getElementById("logo").src = "images/pighead10_combat.png"; break; } } //reset image to normal function image_reset(){ document.getElementById("logo").src = "images/pighead10.png"; } //--> HTML: < Code: !DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>pighead10.com | Home</title> <style type="text/css"> .link1 A:link{text-decoration:none;} .link1 A:visited{text-decoration:none;} .link1 A:active{text-decoration:none;} .link1 A:hover{text-decoration:underline;color:blue;} </style> <script type="text/javascript" src="scripts/titleImage_rollover.js"></script> </head> <body style="font-family:arial;color:red"> <a href="http://www.roblox.com/User.aspx?ID=2969907"> <img id="logo" src="images/pighead10.png" width="150" height="200" onmouseover="image_rollover()" onmouseleave="image_reset()"/> </a> </body> </html> Also, is there a way to view some kind of output in JavaScript? Hey guys! New user here and I just need a little help with some basic Javascript I must write a function that 'shows' the corresponding part of the form depending on what the user has selected. So... for example, if I select 'Pizza', the div #section2 with the question about Pizza type should be shown. All the sections that are not selected should be hidden. For example, if 'Mexican' is selected, the sections for 'Pizza' and 'Thai' should be hidden. (i just would want some tips on how to start) Hi, I'm trying to create a video box on a website that plays a youtube video and then automatically plays random recommended videos with no break in playback. An endless playlist created by youtube based on the initial video. Youtube uses Javascript API. I have never used Javascript before but i'm just trying to get the video to play as above. There are few tutorials online and I couldn't find anyone trying to do a similar thing. If you have any idea how i'd go about it or if not where i could find some information to help. Thanks. Hi all, this is my first attempt at JavaScript code. I'm trying to write code for an Adobe Acrobat form. Here is my situation: I have several boxes, all containing numbers such as 2014, 08, and 000000000. I want to concatenate them all into one long number like 080000000002014. I've looked at a ton of sample code, but nothing I try seems to work. Any help is greatly appreciated.

How do you stop a countdown function?

This must be very simple. I want to execute some javascript only if an element is not displayed What is the syntax? if("#element:hidden) { do something like show it } Help much appreciated. Hi, I have the following code which *should* change the image I have on my webpage to images based on the time. Code: function timeDate() { var t=new Date(); var h = d.getHours(); var r1="images/datetime/1.png"; var r2="images/datetime/2.png"; var r3="images/datetime/3.png"; var r4="images/datetime/4.png"; var r5="images/datetime/5.png"; var r6="images/datetime/6.png"; var r7="images/datetime/7.png"; var r8="images/datetime/8.png"; var r9="images/datetime/9.png"; var r10="images/datetime/10.png"; var r11="images/datetime/11.png"; var r12="images/datetime/12.png"; var r13="images/datetime/13.png"; var r14="images/datetime/14.png"; var r15="images/datetime/15.png"; var r16="images/datetime/16.png"; var r17="images/datetime/17.png"; var r18="images/datetime/18.png"; var r19="images/datetime/19.png"; var r20="images/datetime/20.png"; var r21="images/datetime/21.png"; var r22="images/datetime/22.png"; var r23="images/datetime/23.png"; var r24="images/datetime/00.png"; var el=document.getElementById('hours'); el.src = (h == 1) r1; el.src = (h == 2) r2; el.src = (h == 3) r3; el.src = (h == 4) r4; el.src = (h == 5) r5; el.src = (h == 6) r6; el.src = (h == 7) r7; el.src = (h == 8) r8; el.src = (h == 9) r9; el.src = (h == 10) r10; el.src = (h == 11) r11; el.src = (h == 12) r12; el.src = (h == 13) r13; el.src = (h == 14) r14; el.src = (h == 15) r15; el.src = (h == 16) r16; el.src = (h == 17) r17; el.src = (h == 18) r18; el.src = (h == 19) r19; el.src = (h == 20) r20; el.src = (h == 21) r21; el.src = (h == 22) r22; el.src = (h == 23) r23; el.src = (h == 24) r24; } function addLoadEvent(func) { var oldonload = window.onload; if (typeof window.onload != 'function') { window.onload = func; } else { window.onload = function() { if (oldonload) { oldonload(); } func(); } } } addLoadEvent(function() { timeDate(); }); I am a very new to JavaScript, and I don't know why this won't work. It should compare the hour variable (h) to the hour, and then change the image based on that. However it doesn't do this, and I'm not sure why. I've tried using both = and ==, but neither seem to work. Like I said I am a newbie to this sort of stuff. Can anyone point me in the right direction to fixing this? Also, would there be a way of making the el.src to: "images/timedate/"+[the hour]+".png" without the need of directly comparing the hours? It would be useful if it was possible, as I need to do a minutes one as well Thank you very much in advance PHP Code: <script type="text/javascript"><!--//--><![CDATA[//><!-- sfHover = function() { var sfEls = document.getElementById("nav").getElementByClass("subMenuWrapper"); for (var i=0; i<sfEls.length; i++) { sfEls[i].onmouseover=function() { this.className+=" sfhover"; } sfEls[i].onmouseout=function() { this.className=this.className.replace(new RegExp(" sfhover\\b"), ""); } } } if (window.attachEvent) window.attachEvent("onload", sfHover); //--><!]]></script> Im trying to get the sub navigation to work in ie 6 but can get it working.. can anybody tell me what the above funtion does and how i might be able to apply it to my code... the navigation i have so far is on http://www.corkdesigns.ie/ep3/testing.html Hope someone can help or is the a simple hack i can use for ie 6 for this navigation http://www.corkdesigns.ie/ep3/navigation1.html Thanks How could you say make a x move around a grid using the arrow keys?
Hey guys. I am pretty new to JS and programming. The company that I am working for put me on this project and I have a question. Here is a snippit for a form that we have. We use a dreamweaver extension "HDW form to database" to process the forms and put them in a mysql database. the wpform() is a validation function that has been written. what I want, is the fallowing, if you look at the code below in the option object, there are different categories... rock, funk, hip hop, synth etc. i want it so when one of them is selected, it goes to a different respected page. for example, if the value Rock is selected, and you press submit, it would take you to www.google.com . On the other hand if the value Funk is submitted, it will take you to www.yahoo.com . Code: <form action="/HDWFormToDatabase/FormToDatabase.php" method="post" name="theForm" onSubmit="return wpform()" accept-charset="iso-8859-1"> <select size="1" name="genre"> <option selected="selected" value="genre">Choose a Genre!</option> <option value="Rock">Rock</option> <option value="Funk">Funk</option> <option value="Hip Hop">Hip Hop</option> <option value="80s">Synthesizer</option> <option value="Techno">Techno</option> </select> <input type="hidden" name="hdwok" id="hdwok" value=" URL GOES HERE" /> </form> Normally, when this option object is not present, the user presses submit and after the form gets processed to the database, the browser forwards to the "URL GOES HERE" value. However, I am not sure exactly what to do now since the URL which it is forwarded to will change. can someone give me a hint on how to make this happen? just some general advice for a newb? I would write it but I am pretty lost. I was thinking of including a if statement in the wpform() function that goes something like: Code: if (document.theForm.genre.selectedIndex == 0) { alert("Please select your genre."); document.theForm.genre.focus(); return (false); } if (document.theForm.genre.selectedIndex==1) { window.location = "http://www.google.com/"; return(true); } if (document.theForm.genre.selectedIndex==2) { window.location = "http://www.yahoo.com/"; return(true); } etc etc Would this work? Is there a more efficient way of doing something like this that I should know of due to my lack of JS skills? Thanks in advance so much for help. |
