JavaScript - Need Help With Form Checkbox Validation Code
I am trying to use some JavaScript code that I found by searching the web, my goal is to have a form with a "required" checkbox to force my users to acknowledge they have read my "Terms and Conditions" section. The code that I found ALMOST works properly - it does pop-up the "Alert" window when the checkbox is blank and the submit button is clicked... however, if the user closes the Alert window in order to click the checkbox in compliance, the "submit.form" command is executed before they have a chance. In other words, there is no "pause" in the execution of the script to allow the user to make the correction by clicking the checkbox.
Here is the code: Code: <script LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> <!-- function ValidateForm(form){ ErrorText= ""; if ( form.terms.checked == false ) { alert ( "Please check the Terms & Conditions box." ); return false; } if (ErrorText= "") { form.submit() }} --> </script> Here is the HTML for the checkbox: Code: <input name="terms" type="checkbox" value="Yes" /> Here is the HTML for the submit button that calls the function: Code: <input type="submit" value="Continue" onclick="ValidateForm(this.form)" /> I've searched for other examples of code to accomplish this objective, but I'm hoping for a quicker solution by coming to the experts who can see the flaw in this JavaScript. Thanks for any help, Rob Similar Tutorialsconfused. my validation of the clicking on a checkbox doesn't seem to send the value with the form. Should I be adding value='whatever' in the xhtml? I have a simple validation I need to do. I need to just make sure that a Checkbox is checked, and that a Text field has content. Sounds simple but I cannot find any thing that has a check and a text field. Here what I have. Can I modify this script to do this? A Checkbox MUST be checked and Text field MUST be filled out. This currently does the text field fine, but no Checkbox obviously. How can I add a checkbox validation to this? Thats it. Any help is appreciated. Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var textFields = ["digsig"]; function validateForm( ) { var oops = ""; // must initialize this! var form = document.sig; for ( var t = 0; t < textFields.length; ++t ) { var field = form[textFields[t]]; var value = field.value.replace(/^\s+/,"").replace(/\s+$/,""); // trim the input if ( value.length < 1 ) { oops += "You MUST enter your Digital Signature"; } } if ( oops != "" ) { alert("ERROR:" + oops); return false; } } } </script> Hi All, I have created my second Form to File Web Form thanks to some help from other members. Looks great. I am still new to HTML and Javascript, but basically I took my First Web Form coding (with the Java Script) and manipulated it so that it suited my needs for my 2nd Form (both are very close to being the same). For some reason, I can't get my Java Script validation to take effect. I was wondering if some one could try to pin point why it isn't functioning properly? Again it could be the most obvious thing, but please bear with me as I learn. Just for a little more clarity, I am going to list the things that I have changed to possibly make it easier to pin point: Added Fields: Department, SteetAddress, CityState Deleted: State/Research Accounts, Vendor Checkbox Modified: "Type" which is a radio button that I have changed the choices of. I beleive that's it...I will post my Java Script here and attach my Index File. Thank you in advance!! I am using the form validation code that is found on this page: http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamici...uiredcheck.htm The code works fine for me, but what I'm trying to do is add an additional condition to it. Currently, I just have the code set up to check if the user has enter their name, email, and phone number. But I also need it to validate something else only if a specific condition is true. On my form I have 2 different sets of Radio lists. One is called Function and the other radio list is called Design. If the user selects an option on one of the 2 lists, then it will be required for the user to also select an option from the 2nd list. The user CAN decide not to select anything from either radio list, but can not select from one list and NOT from the other. This is the If statement that I created (don't know if its correct or how to insert it to my current validation code). I have a form which has 3 checkboxes in it: (sorry, ignore the asp) Code: <input name="certs" id="certs" type="checkbox" <% If certs="on" Then Response.Write("checked=""checked""") %> /> <input name="nocerts" id="nocerts" type="checkbox" <% If nocerts="on" Then Response.Write("checked=""checked""") %> /> <input name="certsna" id="certsna" type="checkbox" <% If certsna="on" Then Response.Write("checked=""checked""") %> /> Anyways, I want to enforce the following: - Only one checkbox can be checked from these 3, no more - At least one checkbox must be checked before submission I have found a couple small scripts to validate that at least one is pressed, but I do not know how to make sure no more than one is pressed, and how to combine scripts is beyond me. Can anyone offer any assistance? Is this difficult to do? Hi All I am not a genius when it comes to javascript so if anyone could help, I would really be grateful. scenario: I am creating a custom product (75g) which will be made up of 3 others products (25g + 25g + 25g). The 3 options will be made up of a combination of smaller products each with their own options (25g, 50g, 75g) which will allow the customer to have one of each or fill up all 3 with just one type. Just so you know, I am not a coder I have a new set of problems I'm hoping someone can help me with. Please read all three problems listed below as they are all intertwined. Thank you for any assistance you have with these issues. First, here is the url to my test form http://www.rocpinions.com/test-main-form.html Next, Here is the code I am using. The code is set up on dog cat other and none. The test check 1 etc are all individual check box groups Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function checkI() { var other=0; var checkL = document.getElementsByName('form[PetsInHouse][]'); for (var i=0;i<checkL.length-1;i++){ if(document.getElementById('PetsInHouse3').checked){ document.getElementById('PetsInHouse'+i).disabled = true; document.getElementById('PetsInHouse'+i).checked = false; } else { document.getElementById('PetsInHouse'+i).disabled = false; } if(document.getElementById('PetsInHouse'+i).checked){ other++ } } document.getElementById('PetsInHouse3').disabled=other>0?true:false; } </script> And here is the call I am using onclick="checkI();" Problem 1 This code works fine as is is set up and does what it should. The problem is i am also using this on longer sets of check boxes and I would like to instead of disabling I would like to have it set up so if someone clicks dog cat and other then if they choose the check box "None" it would empty all other check boxes and check the check box "None" and visa versa if none was checked and they checked dog, it would empty the None check. Problem 2 I am using Joomla cms and a form constructor called RS Form Pro. It stores the data submitted in the form to a data base. As it is now, all the info in the check box group is submitted to ONE column. I need to submit it to individual columns for each choice. I can accomplish this by using individual check box groups for EACH item. This will put it in separate columns in the data base but I still need to have it set up so if someone clicks dog cat and other then if they choose the check box "None" it would empty all other check boxes and check the check box "None" and visa versa if none was checked and they checked dog, it would empty the None check. Problem 3 How it submits data to the data base Right now, it submits the data from the check boxes by the name of the check box. What I would like to have is a 1 if it IS checked and a 0 if IS NOT checked. Again, Thank you for any assistance DeZiner I have a simple html form with 2 text fields and submit button 1 user name 2 pwd/token and 1 checkbox 'First time user' if 'first time user' is selected then the 'Submit' button to be enabled only if the customer puts exactly 6 digits on pwd/token. if it's unchecked then the submit button to be enabled only if the customer enters 10 digits(pin_token code) please send me code will be very thankful for your help Hello, After pulling out all my hairs, I am seeking some help with a JS validation script which would be for a case where we have multiple radio buttons which required a response from user and as a additional case if certain radio option is selected user should select one or more options listed as check boxes under that specific radio button. I have attached an image showing sample scenario with this post. If someone has an Idea how to to do please sail me thru. Hello all, new here Seems like a very nice place to be apart of. I have my website www.gebcn.com. If you view source you will see all that I have done, but more importantly my problem. I have the JS code at the top there and I am unable to W3C validate my HTML because of the JS. I am using XHTML strict and would like to stay using it. The JS I have at the top is my form validation code. I am able to do any validating that I need with this "snippet" of code, I have shrank it from my library version just to use for this newsletter. Until now W3C validating was not important now for some reason it is and I am faced with this problem. I am not a Javascript guy more of a HTML/CSS guy and I can manipulate JS to suit my needs. <problem> I have tried to make this "snippet" of JS code an external file but receive multiple errors with the JS calling for the FORM NAME as it is not on the same page. The form NAME=NEWSLETTER is another problem, as W3C says I am unable to use attribute "NAME" in this location. <problem> I would like to keep the JS close to how it is now as I have a library to use this JS over and over again. Any pointers in the right direction or solutions to my problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Hopefully it is not to hard huh If there is anything anyone needs, the code pasted here, or anything else please let me know. Thanks again! This code is designed to send people either to List 1 or List 2 in the Aweber form. At this time, I cannot make the uncheck go to List 2 to receive that thankyou email. Can you tell me what is wrong??? Check--Yes I would like to subscribe--List 1 email--thank you uncheck--No, I do not want to subscribe--List 2--you need more information I am omitting the top of the Aweber code before <body>-- <script language="javascript"> function magCheck(){ var magcheckbox = document.MainForm.magcheckbox.checked; if(magcheckbox == true){ document.getElementById("keylivingwell").value = '1355523361' document.getElementById("redirect").value = 'http://www.aweber.com/thankyou-coi.htm?m=text'; }else if(magcheckbox == false){ document.getElementById("keylivingwund").value = '1357528764' document.getElementById("redirect").value = 'http://www.aweber.com/thankyou-coi.htm?m=text'; } } </script> { } </style> <form method="post" class="af-form-wrapper" action="http://www.aweber.com/scripts/addlead.pl" > <div style="display: none;"> <input type="hidden" id="meta_web_form_id" name="meta_web_form_id" value="1355523361" /> <input type="hidden" name="meta_split_id" value="" /> <input type="hidden" name="listname" value="keylivingwell" /> <input type="hidden" name="redirect" value="http://www.aweber.com/thankyou-coi.htm?m=text" id="redirect_77879d6b0d1bc03d212e86d72e1eae3c" /> <input type="hidden" name="meta_adtracking" value="Key_to_Living_Well_in_Retirement" /> <input type="hidden" name="meta_message" value="1" /> <input type="hidden" name="meta_required" value="name, email" /> <input type="hidden" name="meta_tooltip" value="" /> </div> <div id="af-form-1355523361" class="af-form"><div id="af-header-1355523361" class="af-header"><div class="bodyText"><p> Yes, thank you, I would like</p> <p> a copy of the Report!</p></div></div> <div id="af-body-1355523361" class="af-body af-standards"> <div class="af-element"> <label class="previewLabel" for="awf_field-25981213">Name: </label> <div class="af-textWrap"> <input id="awf_field-25981213" type="text" name="name" class="text" value="" tabindex="500" /> </div> <div class="af-clear"></div></div> <div class="af-element"> <label class="previewLabel" for="awf_field-25981214">Email: </label> <div class="af-textWrap"><input class="text" id="awf_field-25981214" type="text" name="email" value="" tabindex="501" /> </div><div class="af-clear"></div> </div> <div class="af-element buttonContainer"> <input name="submit" id="af-submit-image-1355523361" type="image" class="image" style="background: none;" alt="Submit Form" src="http://www.aweber.com/images/forms/modern/blue/button.png" tabindex="502" /> <div class="af-clear"></div> </div> <div class="af-element privacyPolicy" style="text-align: center"><p><a title="Privacy Policy" href="http://www.aweber.com/permission.htm" target="_blank">We respect your email privacy</a></p> <div class="af-clear"></div> </div> <div class="af-element poweredBy" style="text-align: center; font-size: 9px;"><p>Powered by <a href="http://www.aweber.com" title="Email Marketing Services">AWeber</a> <a href="http://www.aweber.com" title="Email Marketing Services">Email Marketing Services</a></p> <div class="af-clear"></div> </div> </div> <div id="af-footer-1355523361" class="af-footer"><input id="magcheckbox" name="magcheckbox" onclick="magCheck();" type="checkbox" value="1" checked> <div class="bodyText"><p><span style="font-size: 14px;"> Yes, I would like to subscribe</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 14px;"> to Baby Boomers Magazine.</span> </p></div></div> </div> <div style="display: none;"><img src="http://forms.aweber.com/form/displays.htm?id=jMysrKxMzMxsjA==" alt="" /></div> </form> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- (function() { var IE = /*@cc_on!@*/false; if (!IE) { return; } if (document.compatMode && document.compatMode == 'BackCompat') { if (document.getElementById("af-form-1355523361")) { document.getElementById("af-form-1355523361").className = 'af-form af-quirksMode'; } if (document.getElementById("af-body-1355523361")) { document.getElementById("af-body-1355523361").className = "af-body inline af-quirksMode"; } if (document.getElementById("af-header-1355523361")) { document.getElementById("af-header-1355523361").className = "af-header af-quirksMode"; } if (document.getElementById("af-footer-1355523361")) { document.getElementById("af-footer-1355523361").className = "af-footer af-quirksMode"; } } })(); --> </script> I have looked at it so long time, I can't find it. Thanks for your help, Pat Hello everyone. I have been trying 2 days straight to figure out how to make this script work. Basically I am trying to have a hidden checkbox with a drop down menu. I want the user to be able to choose 0-9 where 0 the check box will not be checked and 1-9 if picked from the dropdown menu it will automatically check the hidden box. Here is the closest string of code I could find out there to help me figure it out but I am having no luck. The closest I got was....well I never really figured out how to make it work. Can someone please help me? Thanks. <script type="text/javascript"> function checkUncheck (selected) { var checkBox = document.getElementById("box"); if ((selected == 2) || (selected == 3)) { checkBox.checked = "checked"; } if ((selected == 0) || (selected == 1)) { checkBox.checked = "false"; } } </script> <form id="frm"> <table> <tr> <td><input type="checkbox" id="box" checked="false"/></td> <td> <select id="sel0" onchange="checkUncheck(this.selectedIndex)"> <option value="zero">zero</option> <option value="one">one</option> <option value="two">two</option> <option value="three">three</option> </select> </td> </tr> </table> </form> Hello everyone, my 1st post here and my 1st day with javascript! I am having some problems with the below script: Code: <html> <head> <title></title> <script type="text/javascript"> var electronics = ["mobiles", "hi-fi"]; var entertainment = ["books", "dvds",]; function check(checkboxid) { document.getElementById(checkboxid).checked = "checked"; } function visiblox(arrDiv, hs) { var disp = (hs) ? "none" : "block"; for(var x = 0; x < arrDiv.length; x++) { document.getElementById(arrDiv[x]).style.display = disp; } } function chk(what, item) { if(item) { visiblox(what, false); } else { visiblox(what, true); } } </script> <style type="text/css"> <!-- .hide { display: block; } .hide { display: none; } --> </style> </head> <body> <img src="images/electronics.png" onclick="check('electronics');"> <input type="checkbox" id="electronics" onchange="chk(electronics, this.checked);" > <br> <input type="checkbox" onclick="chk(entertainment, this.checked);"> Entertainment<br> <br> <br> <div id="mobiles" class="hide">Mobiles</div><br> <div id="hi-fi" class="hide">Hi-Fi</div><br> <div id="books" class="hide">Books</div><br> <div id="dvds" class="hide">DVD's</div><br> </body> </html> Basically what happens is, when you select a checkbox it displays the relevant divs, this works fine with the entertainment checkbox in the code. What I am trying to achieve is use an image to trigger the checkbox (which will be hidden) and the run the chk code to display the divs What actually happens when you click the image the checkbox does become checked, however the divs do not display, if I uncheck the checkbox itself and then check the actual checkbox then it works. Basically getting very frustrated as I can't seem to see whats wrong! I am guessing that for some reason the check code stops the chk running, but I dont know why! Many thanks for any help I've literally tried everything. Read 26 tutorials, interchanged code, etc. My validation functions all work. My AJAX functions work (tested manually using servlet URL's). The second servlet validates the reCaptcha form that's generated on my webpage. After the form is validated, even if everything's correct, nothing happens upon clicking submit. I even have an alert pop up if with the captcha result, just for middle-layer debugging purposes. I want to do all of my validation clientside; none serverside. However, going to be tough if I can't get my god damn form to submit. I've been puzzled by this for close to 36 hours straight. I can't see, and I'm going to get some rest and hope that there is some useful insight on my problem when I return. html form: Code: <form id="f1" name="form1" onsubmit="validate_form(this); return false;" action="register" method="post"> <table cellspacing="5" style="border: 2px solid black;"> <tr> <td valign="top"> <table cellspacing="5"> <tr> <td>*First name</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_one"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="fn" name="fn" onBlur="validate_one();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*Last name</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_two"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="ln" name="ln" onBlur="validate_two();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*Email address</td> <td align="right"><span id="result"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="mailfield" name="email" onBlur="startRequest();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*Phone number</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_three"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="pn" name="pn" onBlur="validate_three();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*City/Town</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_four"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="c" name="c" onBlur="validate_four();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td></td> <td> <select name="s"> <option value="AL">Alabama <option value="AK">Alaska <option value="AZ">Arizona <option value="AR">Arkansas <option value="CA">California <option value="CO">Colorado <option value="CT">Connecticut <option value="DE">Delaware <option value="FL">Florida <option value="GA">Georgia <option value="HI">Hawaii <option value="ID">Idaho <option value="IL">Illinois <option value="IN">Indiana <option value="IA">Iowa <option value="KS">Kansas <option value="KY">Kentucky <option value="LA">Louisiana <option value="ME">Maine <option value="MD">Maryland <option value="MA">Massachusetts <option value="MI">Michigan <option value="MN">Minnesota <option value="MS">Mississippi <option value="MO">Missouri <option value="MT">Montana <option value="NE">Nebraska <option value="NV">Nevada <option value="NH">New Hampshire <option value="NJ">New Jersey <option value="NM">New Mexico <option value="NY">New York <option value="MC">North Carolina <option value="ND">North Dakota <option value="OH">Ohio <option value="OK">Oklahoma <option value="OR">Oregon <option value="PA">Pennsylvania <option value="RI">Rhode Island <option value="SC">South Carolina <option value="SD">South Dakota <option value="TN">Tennessee <option value="TX">Texas <option value="UT">Utah <option value="VT">Vermont <option value="VA">Virginia <option value="WA">Washington <option value="WV">West Virginia <option value="WI">Wisconsin <option value="WY">Wyoming </select> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <br> </td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td></td> <td><span id="error"></span></td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top">*Anti-Spam Verification</td> <td></td> <td id="reCaptcha"></td> </tr> </table> </td> <td valign="top"> <table cellspacing="5"> <tr> <td align="left">*Affiliation</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_five"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="affl" name="affl" onBlur="validate_five();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*Research Area:</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_six"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="ra" name="ra" onBlur="validate_six();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top" align="left">*Research Overview</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_seven"></span></td> <td><textarea cols="38" rows="6" id="ro" name="ro" onKeyDown="limitText(this.form.ro,this.form.countdown,500)" onKeyUp="limitText(this.form.ro,this.form.countdown,500)" onBlur="validate_seven();"></textarea></td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td></td> <td><font size="1">You have <input readonly type="text" name="countdown" size="1" value="500"> characters remaining.</font></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*Talk Availability</td> <td></td> <td> <input type="radio" name="ta" value="In person">In person <input type="radio" name="ta" value="Online">Online <input type="radio" name="ta" value="Both" checked>Both </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" valign="top">Links</td> <td></td> <td> <table id="linkTable" border="0"> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" name="link"></td> <td><div id="result"></div></td> </table> </td> <td align="left" valign="top"><input type="button" value="Add Link" onclick="addLink('linkTable')"></td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td><span style="color: red;"></span></td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> <br /> <input type="submit" id="submit" name="submit" value="Submit Form"> </form> Javascript file: Code: /* * script.js - ajax and table functions */ var xmlHttp; I have added extra fields to the form (StatusClass, Project, CameFrom). These 3 fields return fine but I need to validated them. (newbie) I want to try to attempt to style the border of a form field green when the user enters the correct info into the form text field and red on all other fields if the user doesnt enter any info into them. When i test it, enter the right info into the username field, leave the others blank, and hit the submit button it styles the username field green ok but it doesnt make the next fields (password and so on) red. Could someone please explain what I am doing wrong? here is my code so far... Note: just for testing purposes I've put return false on everything so it displays a message when everythings ok.
