JavaScript - Horizontal Text Scrolling With Refresh
Hello,
I'm Chris, welcome everyone. I'm in a need of help. I'm writing application that displays messages from users. This messages are kept in external XML file and every time user post a new message this XML document is appended. What I want to do is to display all messages at the bottom of screen. Messages have to slide horizontally in one line. To do that I used this code: Code: horizontalScroll.js: var scrllTmr; window.onload = function(){ document.getElementById('scroll').style.overflow = 'hidden'; document.getElementById('scrollme').style.float = 'left'; document.getElementById('scrollme').style.position = 'relative'; cw = parseInt(document.getElementById('scroll').offsetWidth/2); w = parseInt(document.getElementById('scrollme').offsetWidth/2); lft = cw + w; document.getElementById('scrollme').style.left = lft + "px"; scrollStep(cw,w,lft); } function scrollStep(cw,w,lft){ if(lft == w * -1) lft = cw + w; document.getElementById('scrollme').style.left = lft + "px"; if(scrllTmr) clearTimeout(scrllTmr); scrllTmr = setTimeout('scrollStep(cw,w,' + (lft - 1) + ')',10); } index.html: <div id="scroll"><div id="scrollme"> <h1 style="white-space: nowrap;">Lets scroll this right here 1 | Lets scroll this right here 2 | Lets scroll this right here 3 | Lets scroll this right here 4 | Lets scroll this right here 5 | Lets scroll this right here 6 | Lets scroll this right here 7 | Lets scroll this right here 8 | Lets scroll this right here 9 | Lets scroll this right here 10 | Lets scroll this right here 11 | Lets scroll this right here 12 | Lets scroll this right here 13 | Lets scroll this right here 14 | Lets scroll this right here 15 | Lets scroll this right here 16 | Lets scroll this right here 17 | Lets scroll this right here 18 | Lets scroll this right here 19 | Lets scroll this right here 20 </h1></div></div> The problem with that code is that at 1/3 length of text it starts from beginning and this is wrong. The text have to scroll to the very end and then start to scroll from beginning again. Another thing, that I'm unable to deal with is refreshing/reloading the content from XML file. What I need to do is to check if XML was changed/appended and if it was then I have to add this added message to text that scrolls horizontally and view it at the end of horizontal text. I'm pretty sure I have to use Ajax here. Also, if text from XML file will be added to horizontal text page cannot refresh and start scrolling from beginning, but instead of that if have to append horizontal text and continue to scroll showing appended message at the end. Any advices, please? Thanks, Chris Similar TutorialsHi, I need some help with getting the browser to automatically scroll to the top when the user slides horizontally. It's probably easier for you to see what I mean! http://www.zabirvalliji.co.uk This is my website (still a working progress!!). If you click the links you will see the website scrollings horizontally. If you scroll to the bottom of 'portfolio', and then click another section, you will see that the browser stays at the bottom. Basically, I want the browser to automatically slide to the top whenever the user goes to another section. Is anyone able to help me? Hello, Currently I'm looking at smooth scrolling Js scripts for thumb images which can be altered to accomodate needs. I found one here that has some desirable effects but has no navi buttons. Would it be sensible to alter and point the hovering mouse scroll function to buttons, or would it be a better idea to keep looking for exactly the right script? The 2 identical scrollers on this page are the look I want but these are flash; http://area.autodesk.com/ ps: I've no experience of Js but can pick things up pretty quickly. I'm attaching my php test file but this is a JS problem. When I scroll down in the web page and the meta refresh hits, in Windows Safari and IE6/7/8 browsers, the web page re-positions back to the top. In Opera and FF the page refreshes but it stays where it is. Can someone look at my test script and see why it is not working in IE and Win Safari? My goal is to have the web page not re-position to the top on the auto refresh. Thanks... Hi I'm looking for a simple ticker that scrolls horizontally across the top of the homepage of a site I'm working on. Ideally I would like one for both Twitter and RSS feeds, but either is good. If anyone knows where I can find one that's simple to implement that would be great. Kind Regards Can anyone tell me Got any javascript that can support the effect of following link http://www.markinns.com/articles/ful...uee_on_twitter but i want vertical text ...this link is for holizontal I dont wnat to use marquee, because got limitation HI I want to make a news section on right side of my webiste's main page, it can in dreamweaver, someone can help me in this regard thanks zami Hello All, I'm working on a project which requires a small portion from a large table of information to be displayed on a webpage (sort of like a magnifying glass). The display will be a table of fixed size (m by n cells). Some of the cells will be merged. When the table updates, different sets of cells may be merged. It needs to be coded in HTML5, which I assume includes the use of JavaScript and CSS (The specs of this is rather unclear at the moment, so I'm going to cover all bases). Anyhow, looking through the HTML5 and JavaScript tutorials, I found two ways to solve this problem. One way would be to have a script to parse out the relevant information, and have it output into a table (dynamically generating the HTML required). The second way would be to have the script draw the table on its own in a canvas. User events (such as arrow keys on the keyboard) will change the position of the focus (move the magnifying glass in a cardinal direction). I hit a small snag with the first solution - Is it possible to update the table on the page (including changing the structure of it) without having to refresh? If you could point me to a relevant tutorial or example on the web, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm trying to find a script that will scroll text past fixed position sandbag divs. I want the text to flow around an image as it scrolls. It's easy to do the wrap around the image part. I can't seem to find anything that will continue wrapping the content of your site around the fixed background as you scroll though. Did that make sense? Hi, I have the below code: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function loadQuickMessageCheck(File,ID){ var xmlhttp; if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); } else { xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function(){ if (xmlhttp.readyState==4 && xmlhttp.status==200){ document.getElementById(ID).innerHTML=xmlhttp.responseText; eucalyptus = setInterval(function(){loadQuickMessageCheck(File,ID)},20000); } } xmlhttp.open("POST",File, true); xmlhttp.send(); } </script> But I am overloading the server and crashing it. I've googled the issue and have found people with similar problems who talk about the need to cancel the last refresh request before they send the next refresh. I even found this nice piece of code which worked for someone else. Quote: try{window.clearTimeout(tRefresh)} catch(err) {} tRefresh = setInterval(setContext, varInterval*60*1000); } I am not sure if this is the solution that I am looking for but if it is all my attempts at applying this code has been a bit of a disaster. Hi, I'm looking to create a div which contains a list of news items which can be vertically scrolled through by hovering near the top or the bottom of the div. It will then automatically start scrolling through the content. The nearer to the bottom of the div they position their mouse, the faster the scrolling is. Is this something which is possible, and if so how can I do this? Thanks Curt +++ is it possible to scroll / jump to say, 10px above a div? i tried adding padding, but it doesn't work. also, when I use <a href="#xxxx">, is it possible to prevent the browser from adding #xxxx to the url in the browser? thanks!!! +++ Hi there, I was wondering of there is any way to have a browser window scroll down when your mouse reaches the bottom of the page? Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks Hello. I am in the process of making a basic game board using javascript. Just a table with a bunch of cells that are blank, soon to be colored. However, what I want to do is create my board and be able to scroll depending on where the mouse cursor is. For example, if it is 100px away from the right side of the screen, then move the board to the right. I am trying to use the information from: here I can't seem to get it to work. I have checked firebug, set and checked breakpoints, but it never moves and I am not sure why. Could anyone please help? Thank you. Heres my code: Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <style> #land { table-layout: fixed; width: 2500px; height: 2500px; } #land td { width: 25px; height: 25px; border: 1px solid black; empty-cells:show; } #land tr { height: 25px; } </style> <script type="text/javascript" src="World/world.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="mapscrolling.js"></script> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> <title></title> </head> <body id="mainBody"> <div id="mainDiv"> </div> <script type="text/javascript" > new CursorDivScroll( 'mainDiv', 20, 20 ); // HERES THE REFERENCE! var i, j; body = document.getElementById("mainDiv"); land = document.createElement("table"); land.setAttribute("id", "land"); land.setAttribute("cellspacing", "0"); land.style.border = "1"; for(i = 0; i < 100; ++i) { var row = document.createElement("tr"); for(j = 0; j < 100; ++j) { var cell = document.createElement("td"); cell.appendChild(document.createElement("div")) // tried &nsbd; but didn't work row.appendChild(cell); } land.appendChild(row); } body.appendChild(land); </script> </body> </html> As of right now I have a code that will work in IE but wont work in FireFox...go figure. Basically what I want to have happen is when you type in an area code it will provide an output in a predetermined area of the page. For Example: Input- 512 Output - Austin, TX The code that I have doesn't work with firefox and I was just wondering if there was a code that would allow that to happen. Thanks! Hi I need some help. I have a link that opens in a new window which allows the user to perform an update to a record. On submit I want it to obviously update (which it does), then close the page and update the main page (where we opened the link from initially). I seem to have this working using an function which is called off the submit button using onclick........the function is: <script type="text/javascript"> function windowclose() { window.opener.location.href = window.opener.location.href; window.close() } </script> Now, the update happens as I say, and the page closes, and the main page looks like it refreshes but the update is not reflected....if I hit f5 the update appears. Is it to do with the speed of writing to the database and updating the screen? I have also been playing around with trying to add a settimeout to add a delay between update and close/refresh but couldnt get it to work. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers! This is what i need to do: I have a single <DIV> </DIV> for rendering dynamic HTML content. it already has a scrollbar in it when it overflows with text. I want to be able to prevent the user from selecting text on the DIV, and at the same time, when they click on the DIV and drag the mouse up or down , the HTML document will be scrolled proportionally to the dragging. i would also like to Hide the Scrollbar (not disable it). any suggestions? I am creating a testimonials page on a customers site, and I am wanting it to be like a scrolling content. I have the border created, and I want to have text inside the border that will scroll sideways displaying a new one every 10 seconds or so, but having the ability to move between the content. Can anyone tell me what sort of script I should use? I've seen something like it before, but I've had a mind blank. I know it's some kind of Java scripting. Any ideas? Thanks in advance hey guys i have graphic on the right side of the screen that is not in view and i am scrolling it to the left. Is there away to remove the bottom scrollbar permanently through using a mask or something. if i have an item scrolling from the left the scroll bar does not show, but on the right it does. an help be appreciated. Hi, I know that iframes can be set to have scroll bars automatically apear when needed or put them there permanantly. However, I would like to have a Javascript slider on the topmost page scroll the iframe. It was possible to make a link on the topmost page change the content of the iframe by putting the iframe name in the link's target. Is this possible with a slider? I ask this because some of the content inside the iframe is on external pages so obviously we can't add the scroll bar there. I am looking to have a panoramic image used as the background webpage scroll automatically while the page is open. I do not want the user to have to scroll the image or hover over a div. Is there a way to accomplish this in JS?
