JavaScript - Js Declaring-wrong Validation Due To Function Problem With Variable Holding Same Valu
Hi, I am doing a Validation for Form "Text input". If the user leaves the input empty, a function is starting to run. If the field is bigger than 1 - so it doesn't get into the function.
The problem is: The first time, the user left the input empty, function ran, and I got the alert - that's OK. Second time, The user added 10 in the AGE input - And again he gets the Alert - But he should not. Note: Age input value, returns from a different function (calc) to a var called: result. this is the code: Code: $(document).ready(function(){ $('#btn_send').click(function(){ //var result gets the value from another function of input "Age" value. -> return thisform.Age.value var result = calc(document.getElementById("campaignform")); if (result<1) { $("#campaignform").submit(function(event) { event.preventDefault(); alert ("prevent default"); }); } else{ return true; }; }); }); so if you try the second time to click on Submit, then you get into $('#btn_send').click(function() and eventhough you added for example 67 in the AGE (return as result) input, you get into the IF statement which is: if (result<1) I'm pretty new to developing, so I hop you will understand me. Sorry if I have mistakes. Can you advice what could be a better TITLE for this question? thanks in advance, Shai Similar TutorialsHello again, I seem to be having trouble with my string variable in innerHTML.. here's my code: Code: function header() { // Navigation Bar 110 var o = document.getElementById("header"); 111 var s = '<h3 style="float:left;">' 112 + ' ' 113 + '<a href="http://mattondo.com" class="link">MattOndo.Com</a></h3>' 114 + '<div style="float:right;">' 115 + '<div class="navbar">' 116 + '<a href="index.htm" class="nav" id="home">home</a>' //to homepage 117 + '<a href="about.htm" class="nav" id="about">about</a>' // to about page 118 + '<a href="construction.htm" class="nav" id="blog">blog</a>' // to blog page 119 + '<a href="contact.htm" class="nav" id="contact">contact</a>' // to contact page 120 + '</div>' 121 + '</div>'; 122 o.innerHTML = s; every time I run this using firebug, it says I have one error. That on line 122 variable o is null. And when I go through the code using firebug line by line, it gets to thevar o = document.getElementById("header"); and stores nothing in o, making it null. What could be my issue here?? Afternoon Chaps, A little help if I may? I have a form set up and I need to set the validation so if one option is selected from a picklist, they need to complete a text field as well. This is the code i'm using: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- function validate_form ( ) { valid = true; if ( ( document.listmenu0.Reason.selectedIndex == 1 ) && ( document.listmenu0.Row_Number.value == "" ) ) { alert ( "Please add a row number" ); valid = false; } return valid; } //--> </script> Reason is a picklist, I want it to show the alert when option 1 from the picklist is selected and no text is in the Row_Number field. If any of the other options are selected, I want to make sure the Row_Number field is blank. As I said, I'm sure this is a very simple thing, but I been working on it for ages, and cannot get it to work, I get the alert every time the Row_Number field is blank. Any help would be much appreciated. Many Thanks Skinn I don't know how I should do ? I put the following line in the onchange tag of a listbox to use the values to manipulate an iframe: document.getElementById('viewer').src=('Location_Files/')+(this.value)+('.htm') There it works perfectly but I wanted to do more so I decided to build a function around it: function display() { document.getElementById('viewer').src=('Location_Files/')+(this.value)+('.htm') } When I put the function in the onchange tag instead, the iframe tries to work but I get a "can't load page" message like the src is broken. Now when I first made that line it took me hours to figure out that I can't use a "\" because if I do it fails. So I went with "/" and that works but I wonder if that rules change when I specify it in the java script instead of in the onchange tag itself. Either way it still breaks if I try to use "\". Does anyone see the problem? Thank you in advance if someone can help. I have been banging my head against the wall for hours now. Here is the code: Code: for (var i = 0; i < BS_crm['activityTypes'].length; i++) { var clickFunc = function(){ activityList.showForm( -1, {blockType:[""+BS_crm['activityTypes'][i]['id'], "0"]} ); }; var type = { value: BS_crm['activityTypes'][i]['id'], label: "Add New "+BS_crm['activityTypes'][i]['label'], css: BS_crm['activityTypes'][i]['css']+"_16", onClick: clickFunc }; previewLinks.items.push( type ); } Now, basically what I am doing here is running through one array to create an array of objects, that will be used to create links that will use whatever onClick function I pass it. The problem is that on the second line I need the BS_crm['activityTypes'][i]['id'] to be a value, not a reference. If that line was simply changed to: Code: var clickFunc = function(){ activityList.showForm( -1, {blockType:["3", "0"]} ); }; then everything would work as I need. How can I make this happen? I would really appreciate any help. Thank you again in advance. Hi, I have a list setup with links. The list scrolls with the css setting of overflow:auto. However, when a link in the list that is scrolled down to (that is hidden unless scrolled down to) is clicked, I'd like to hold the list at that list item so that the viewer can return to the same line in the list and click the next li. Right now, the list resets to the top after a li link is clicked... I have a feeling this is something simple, but I'm guessing it would be javascript...?? The site to view - click here and then see the left side scrolling list. Thanks!! Hey there, I started learning Javascript about five weeks ago when I started my University course, and I have been doing above averagely in the little mini-tests, but now I am on coursework I have been having trouble getting past the most simple thing, and I can't help think that I'm just approaching the issue from the wrong angle in my head. I'm not asking to be spoon-fed the answers from veteran coders or cheating because that just defeats the point of learning. In fact I actively discourage anyone from posting a direct answer to this question. However I would like some assistance in the kind of thinking that would help me in term of creating a function like this; Name of function and parameters: index(string, pattern, caseSensitive) "Where pattern starts in string (or -1 if it is not found), return the index. The search needs to be case sensitive if the third parameter is true else it is case insensitive." (Where underlined and italics are parameter names) I know how to create functions in general, however I cannot get my head around the fact that the parameters are supposed to represent something, and it is required for me to program something without knowing what the parameters represent. I know it's simple and I'm probably thinking about it the wrong way. If anyone could assist me I would be grateful. I'm currently trying to hide my navigation button when it hides the end of the list, right now I currently have: Previous / Next (they are about the same anyways) Code: function previousEvent(i) { var k = new Number(i); if (index == 0) { $('#previous').hide(); } else { $('#next').show(); index = index - 1; eventSelected(rawDates[index], rawTime[index]); } } And in my html...the div properties: Code: <div style="text-align:right;"> <div id="next" style="float:right;"><a onclick="javascript:nextEvent();"> <input type="image" name="next" src="images/SiteCollectionImages/MiniEvents/btn_Next.gif" alt="Next Event" title="Next Event"/></a> </div> <div id="previous" style="float:right; padding-right:2px;"><a onclick="javascript:previousEvent();"> <input type="image" name="previous" src="images/SiteCollectionImages/MiniEvents/btn_Previous.gif" alt="Previous Event" title="Previous Event"/></a> </div> edit: Sorry forgot to explain, I'm trying to make it so when they click on next, and keep clicking until the end of the dataset, it will hold the previous button where it usually is. Instead right now it moves it over to where the "Next" button is. I figured there has to be a way to hide the button, but yet hold the position still. Thanks in advance! What I am trying to accomplish is to take the calculated number of day and hours and minutes; multiply the total time in hours by the equipment cost per hour and calculate the total amount of rent. My problem I think is in the calculate total amount of rent section in the script. Please help, your expertise is greatly appreciated. Below is the math equation in the script section: Code: //calculate days from date field function checkit() { var today = new Date(); var nowyear = today.getFullYear(); var d1 = document.forms[0].pickupDate.value.split("/"); var yr = d1[2]; var mm = d1[0]-1; var dy = d1[1]; var OK1 = checkValidDate(yr,mm,dy); if ((yr < nowyear || yr > nowyear +1)) {OK1 = false} // only valid for current year and next year var d2 = document.forms[0].returnDate.value.split("/"); yr = d2[2]; mm = d2[0]-1; dy = d2[1]; var OK2 = checkValidDate(yr,mm,dy); if ((yr < nowyear || yr > nowyear+2)) {OK2 = false} if ((!OK1) || (!OK2)) { alert ("Invalid dates\(s\) or incorrect format! Please try again."); document.forms[0].pickupDate.value = ""; document.forms[0].returnDate.value = ""; return false; } // arbitrary or example start and end times obtained from elsewhere (select lists) var fhrs = parseFloat(document.forms[0].pickupHours.value); var fmins = parseFloat(document.forms[0].pickupMinutes.value); var shrs = parseFloat(document.forms[0].returnHours.value); var smins = parseFloat(document.forms[0].returnMinutes.value); var firstDate = new Date(d1[2],d1[0]-1,d1[1],fhrs,fmins); // note month must be 0-11!! I am trying to declare a variable inside a function and use it later on in my code... but it just already returns white space... i.e. not variable value. I am setting it within this function: Code: function show_video1(){ document.getElementById('video1').style.display="block"; var video1Name = "Education World News (Part 1)"; document.getElementById('video2').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video3').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video4').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video5').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video6').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video7').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video8').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video9').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video10').style.display="none"; document.getElementById('video11').style.display="none"; } and trying to call it later on with this: Code: <script type="text/javascript">document.write(video1Name)</script> It might be worth noting that each one of my 11 videos will hace a different name. Can anyone help out a newbie? Many thanks, greens85 Hi all, Rookie (extremely) programmer here, so be gentle Trying to build a little tool here.. Feel free to move it. Couldn't decide if this should go in DOM forum or not (probably bc I don't know what DOM is!) Hi I need a bit of javascript help with an array please. just don't seem to have the correct syntax. (the "code" below is pseudo code, just to get the idea across) Here's what I currently have: var bill = new array[20]; var sam = new array[20]; var nancy = new array[20]; var Oscar = new array[20]; I'm assigning objects to them (ie Oscar[5] = new objLabel() This seems like a kluge, however. Here's what I'd like (again, pseudo-code) var Objects = {bill:null; sam:null; nancy:null; Oscar:null}; var theObject = new Array of Objects[20]; // yes: i know that's wrong... and that's the part I'm having trouble with so that I can do something like: with theObject[5] do { bill = new objLabel(); nancy = new objImage(); }; Just seems to me that keeping a single array of multiple objects is likely to be less error-prone than multiple arrays of single objects... But I don't have the syntax right... or can it be done in JS? If it's doable, would someone be kind enough to show me how to declare and access that example? Today I have been embedding some Google Maps on my website. When I got around to putting in event handlers for markers on the map I ran into some trouble with how to declare them in the way I have the map setup. The issue is that I have an array, label, and want to indicate a single element from that array to the event handling function. But the declaration of this seems tricky. The code in question are the two lines like this one in the script below: GEvent.addListener(marker[i], 'mouseover', function() { map.addOverlay(label[i]); }); Specifically, the problem is with function() { map.addOverlay(label[i]); because I don't want label[i] to be used, but whatever value i has should be substituded in there. But since this is a function being declared and not actually executed the value for i does not get used. I've been able to get it to work by using eval() to force the actual value of i into the code, like so: eval('GEvent.addListener(marker[i], \'mouseout\', function() { map.removeOverlay(label['+i+']); });'); but am wondering if there is a better solution? Here's a section of my script showing the issue in context. You can see that i is incremented with a loop and used as the index of a few arrays. Code: for (i = 0; i < buildings.length; i++) { icon[i] = new GIcon(); icon[i].image = 'http://labs.google.com/ridefinder/images/mm_20_red.png'; icon[i].iconSize = new GSize(12, 20); icon[i].iconAnchor = new GPoint(6, 20); map.addOverlay(marker[i] = new GMarker(new GLatLng(buildings[i][1], buildings[i][2]), {icon:icon[i]})); label[i] = new ELabel(new GLatLng(buildings[i][1], buildings[i][2]), '<nobr>'+buildings[i][3]+'<\/nobr>', 'maplabel'); GEvent.addListener(marker[i], 'mouseover', function() { map.addOverlay(label[i]); }); GEvent.addListener(marker[i], 'mouseout', function() { map.removeOverlay(label[i]); }); } Hello fellow programmers, I am having some trouble with my javascript doing what I want it to, which is returning values (true/false || 1/0). I haven't used much javasript but I am experienced with C#, Java, Python etc so this is sort of new to me syntax wise. Here is what I have so far: http://jsfiddle.net/HpSyJ/1/ note: for some reason css doesn't like jsfiddle :S, the error messages are hidden in my Notepad++ & firefox combo though Really all I want is when I hit submit, it runs an alert or changes the error message to visible. Can someone please have a quick read over and see if anything jumps out at them? Thanks in advance, Andrew hi everyone, firstly to call myself a noob would be inflating my ego. I have done one project in javascript so far and have had no schooling on the topic, however I have learned quite a lot in the last few months from this thing called the 'internet'. So far I managed to make an html image map that has various tooltips which will appear onmouseover, and the tooltip disappears onmouseout. Each point of coords that i have defined has a hyperlink to a different page on the internet. It works just like i wanted it to and i couldn't be happier, that is, when i'm using a mouse... When i am using a touchscreen device it is a different story. specifically i'm trying to port my html page to android as i figured it would be easy with the android sdk and webview (it was, but read on). What i found when i used the 'app' on my phone was that onmouseover works when you touch the screen, however it also registers as a click, so pop goes the tooltip, and i'm whisked away to my webpage. not the desired result. Ideally I would like to hold down the screen for 3 seconds and then the hyperlink would activate, but i decided that just getting the thing functional would suffice for the time beaing so i tried to include some 'ondblclick' that would trigger a document.location. This worked fine on a web browser again, but had no result on the touchscreen. I decided to abandon this half step because I have read that ondblclick doesn't work in an image map and it isn't my intended result anyway. I have found a lot of javascript and jquery samples that emulate the onHold event that i'm trying to achieve, both on this forum and all over the internet, however these samples are overly complex and are focused on looping an action, such as incrementally increasing a value or zooming or whatever. I just want to redirect the user to another page if they trigger 'onmousedown' for 3 seconds. anybody want to trade some help for a thankyou? Hey guys, i'm taking on my first minor project in javascript and i've run into an error. For whatever reason, buttons i've defined are calling on functions that supposedly don't exist, yet they are clearly in the code and can be applied anywhere. I also checked the syntax errors in google chrome and they state: Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token else Uncaught reference error: go() is not defined Uncaught reference error: highscore() is not defined. So without further delay, here is the full code. Can anyone help me out? Code: <html> <head> <script type="text/JavaScript"> <!-- var sam = 9; var sally = 8; var donald = 4; function percentage (score) { return score / 10 * 100; }; function go() { document.write("Sam's score on the test is " + percentage(sam) + "%, <br \> Sally's score on the test is " + percentage(sally) + "%, <br \> Donald's score on the test is " + percentage(donald) + "%"); }; function highscore() { if (Math.max(90, 80, 40) === 90){ document.write("Sam's score was the highest.")}; else if (Math.max(90, 80, 40) === 80){ document.write("Sally's score was the highest.")}; else{ document.write("Donald's score was the highest.")} }; //--> </script> </head> <body> <input type="button" onclick="go()" value="Student Grades"> <br \> <input type="button" onclick="highscore()" value="Highest Score"> </body> </html> So if both validations work seperatley (if I just put radio buttons validation in the function without the spinner validation then radio buttons validation works and same vise versa), how come when I put both validations in the function, the top validation which is the radio validation works but the bottom validation which is the spinner validation does not display a message when it is suppose to? Code is below: Code: <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" /> <title>Create a Session</title> <script type="text/javascript"> function validation() { var errMsgO = document.getElementById("radioAlert"); var btnRadioO = document.getElementsByName("sessionNo"); var isbtnRadioChecked = false; var errQuesMsgO = document.getElementById("numberAlert"); var questionNumberO = document.getElementsByName("txtQuestion"); for(i=0; i < btnRadioO.length; i++){ if(btnRadioO[i].checked){ isbtnRadioChecked = true; } } if(!isbtnRadioChecked) { errMsgO.innerHTML = "Please Select the Number of Sessions you Require"; } else { errMsgO.innerHTML = ""; } return false; if(questionNumberO[0].value == 0){ errQuesMsgO.innerHTML = "Please Set the Number of Questions"; } else { errQuesMsgO.innerHTML = ""; } return false; } </script> </head> <body> <form action="create_session.php" method="post" name="sessionform"> <table> <tr> <th>2: Number of Sessions :</th> <td class="sessionNo"><input type="radio" name="sessionNo" value="1" />1</td> <td class="sessionNo"><input type="radio" name="sessionNo" value="2" />2</td> <td class="sessionNo"><input type="radio" name="sessionNo" value="3" />3</td> <td class="sessionNo"><input type="radio" name="sessionNo" value="4" />4</td> <td class="sessionNo"><input type="radio" name="sessionNo" value="5" />5</td> </tr> </table> <div id="radioAlert"></div> <table> <tr> <th>Number of Questions:</th> <td class="spinner"><textarea class="spinnerQuestion" name="txtQuestion" id="txtQuestion" cols="2" rows="1"></textarea></td> <td><button class="scrollBtn" id="btnQuestionUp"><img src="Images/black_uppointing_triangle.png" alt="Increase" /></button> <button class="scrollBtn" id="btnQuestionDown"><img src="Images/black_downpointing_triangle.png" alt="Decrease" /></button></td> </tr> </table> <div id="numberAlert"></div> <p><input class="questionBtn" type="button" value="Prepare Questions" name="prequestion" onClick="validation()" /></p> <!-- Prepare Questions here--> </form> </body> |
