JavaScript - Javascript Will Work On Other Websites, But Not My Website. Help Please?
Alright, so I'm trying to get Javascript to work for me on my own website, and I can't even seem to get it to work when I test the files offline.
I can take an example script from the internet, copy it, and put it on my computer. From then on, the script no longer works. I try uploading the file to my webhost, and it still won't work. It's not Browser Support because I'm using the same browser I used to view the example, which worked on the website it came from. There's no differences in the code I used, as opposed to the code they used. Javascript still won't work. Can anyone explain any reason why this is? Is there some kind of extra Java Support one would need on their webhost to make JS work? One of the websites I'm trying to get my script from is this: http://sixrevisions.com/tutorials/ja...cript_tooltip/ Similar TutorialsHello, i have a website at www.djchapperz.co.uk and i want to allow access to only internet explorer and firefox users. I've heard Javascript is good for this. If anyone could help me i would be grateful. The reason i want to do this is because in Google Chrome my site messes up on several pages. All help is welcome. Thanks in advance ChapperZHTID Does anyone know how to make URL links that use Javascript still work when users have Javascript disabled on their browser? The only reason I'm using JS on a URL is because my link opens a PDF file, and I'm forcing it not to cache so users have the latest version. I tried the <script><noscript> tags, but I'm not sure if I'm using it correctly, as my URL completely disappears. Below is my HTML/Javascript code: <p class="download"> <script type="text/javascript">document.write("<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0);\" onclick=\"window.open( 'http://www.webchild.com.au/mediakit/Direct_Media_Kit_Web.pdf?nocache='+ Math.floor( Math.random()*11 ) );\" >The Child Magazines Media Kit</a></span> (PDF 1 MB) ");</script> <noscript><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a href="http://www.webchild.com.au/mediakit/Direct_Media_Kit_Web.pdf" >The Child Magazines Media Kit</a></span> (PDF 1 MB)</noscript> </p> Thanks for any help, Michael Hi guys, I want to add a big pic to my website for background, and the pic can change size with the displayer size. In fact I quite often agree with you - although not necessarly without qualification. Your expertise as a coder is plain to see. But you often see fit to express yourself in a disagreeable, quarrelsome, snide, supercilious, self-satisfied and generally unpleasant manner, so your comments do not generate the respect they might otherwise deserve. You seem to delight in going out of your way to create friction and antagonism. As I have said before, you are not liked, so you are not respected, and as you are not respected your postings and opinions are not seen as valuable. The reason why it might well be better to do something server-side is not, in my opinion, anything to do with Javascript-disabled browsers. It is simply which method is most efficient and secure. In this situation you are right to say that server-side is to be preferred. But Javascript is much more than "bells and whistles" and these days is completely essential, not optional, for web functionality. As VIP Stephan has pointed out, the OP said "I didn't write this script and I'm not a JavaScript expert, so I don't know how to edit it properly. I want to change it's function from sorting to filtering, i.e. something along the lines of a slice function. " So there is no point in whickering on about your preference for server-side scripting. You might as well suggest that the OP writes it in Klingon. Hi all - I'm designing a website, and I need to have a search button allow users to search the inventory that is on the website. I'm not quite sure what code I'm going to use for the search button, but I imagine that I can work on that sometime.. Along with the code, am I required to have something such as a MySQL database set-up or something of the sort? This question may be mis-categorized, so please let me know if it is. Thanks everyone! Hello all, My website has a search field at the index page. I want to test this search field for vulnerabilities by entering Javascript. When i enter <script>alert("test");</script> in the search field there comes a pop-up which says: "best" instead of "test". When I enter <script>alert("test123");</script> the pop-up says: "test" instead of "test123" The page source displays the following after I enter <script>alert("test");</script> in the search field. As you can see it changes my "test" input to "best" for some kind of reason. <a href="/searchresults.jsp?searchpage=1&freetext=%3Cscript%3Ealert%28%22best%22%29%3B%3C%2Fscript%3E& pagepart=objectname;description;shorturl&expressionset=&nodelocation=0000000000010000&ds mshowinsearch=true&dateformat=dd-MM-yyyy&creationdatestart=&creationdateend=&modificationdatestart=&modificationdateend= &publicationdatestart=&publicationdateend=&searchbase=0&searchrange=10&expans ion =" class="blauw bold italic"><script>alert(" best ");</script></a> <a href="/searchresults.jsp?searchpage=2&freetext=%3Cscript%3Evoert%28%22test%22%29%3B%3C%2Fscript%3E& pagepart=objectname;description;shorturl&expressionset=&nodelocation=0000000000010000&ds mshowinsearch=true&dateformat=dd-MM-yyyy&creationdatestart=&creationdateend=&modificationdatestart=&modificationdateend= &publicationdatestart=&publicationdateend=&searchbase=0&searchrange=10&expans ion =" class="blauw bold italic"><script>voert(" test ");</script></a> <a href="/searchresults.jsp?searchpage=3&freetext=%3Cscriptie%3Ealert%28%22test%22%29%3B%3C%2Fscriptie%3E& amp;pagepart=objectname;description;shorturl&expressionset=&nodelocation=0000000000010000&am p;dsmshowinsearch=true&dateformat=dd-MM-yyyy&creationdatestart=&creationdateend=&modificationdatestart=&modificationdateend= &publicationdatestart=&publicationdateend=&searchbase=0&searchrange=10&expans ion =" class="blauw bold italic"><scriptie>alert(" test ");</scriptie></a> </p> <p class="sorteer-aantal">Deze zoekvraag levert geen resultaten op</p> So in some way my website changes my input, but what is happening? and is it possible that somebody can abuse this searchfield? Thanks in advance for your reply, Hanna (a newbie with Javascript) Hey there, so this is my first time using this website. I was wondering if anyone can help me resolve this problem. It is for my Website Development Class and I am going use this forum to help me understand the languages haha. But Anyways. My homework assignment I have to do is: Create a Web page named gpa.html that can be used to compute your grade point average given grades and hours for courses completed. The page should repeatedly prompt the user for course information, reading the course name, grade received, and credit hours for a particular course in a single dialog box. While the user is done inputting the information, it should display on the website like this: COURSE GRADE HOURS THL100 B+ 3 PHL107 A 3 ENG120 C+ 3 MTH245 A 4 CSC221 A 3 Total grade points = 58 Number of hours = 16 GPA = 3.625 So my problem is that when I tried to display it outside the while loop it only displays "NaN". Please Help and Thanks! Here is my code: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <!-- gpa.html--> <head> </head> <body> <script type= "text/javascript"> document.write("Course - Grade - Credit Hours"); document.write("<br>"); var third; var total = 0; var total2 = 0; var total4 = 0; var t_hrs = 0; var user; while (user != "") { user = prompt("Hello User. Enter course name, grade, & credit hours (i.e CS3240 B+ 3), or click OK with no data to terminate."); var uInput = user.split(" "); document.write(uInput); document.write("<br>"); third = uInput[2]; t_hrs = parseInt(t_hrs) + parseInt(uInput[2]); if (uInput[1] == "A"){ letter2point = 4.0; } else if (uInput[1] == "B+"){ letter2point = 3.5; } else if (uInput[1] == "B"){ letter2point = 3.0;} else if (uInput[1] == "C+"){ letter2point = 2.5; } else if (uInput[1] == "C"){ letter2point = 2.0; } else if (uInput[1] == "D"){ letter2point = 1.0; } else if (uInput[1] == "F"){ letter2point = 0.0; } total = letter2point * third; total2 = total2 + total; total4 = total2 / t_hrs; } document.write(total4) </script> </body> </html> Reply With Quote 01-29-2015, 02:47 AM #2 felgall View Profile View Forum Posts Visit Homepage Master Coder Join Date Sep 2005 Location Sydney, Australia Posts 6,745 Thanks 0 Thanked 666 Times in 655 Posts If that antiquated JavaScript is what your course is teaching then I feel sorry for you. Just about every statement that you have there is listed on one of the "Bad Bits" pages of my Introducing JavaScript web site where it gives the reasons for not using those 20 year old code constructs in modern web browsers (which means IE5 and any browser more recent than that). A couple of suggestions to get you started. 1. The second document.write is not complete so everything from there onward is broken. 2. To convert to a number use Number((t_hrs) or (+t_hrs). If you must use parseint then always include the second parameter to specify the number base you are converting from parseInt(t_hrs, 10) - with regard to t_hrs it is a number to start with so doesn't even need this conversion. 3. Use === and !== instead of == and != as the two character versions don't always give the expected result where the three character versions always do. Hello, I am developing a website using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Actually, I used Javascript a lot in that website and I am developing it in Internet Explorer Environment but I want to display it on the Firefox or Google Chrome but the problem is some of javascript codes do not work in these browsers. So what Should I do? I think I need to define the javascript for the different browsers, so how can I do that? Hey all, I need help creating a Javascript loop which posts a single static comment to all videos on a website(unless another language would prove to be a better alternative?) I'm not sure where to start and although I have an idea, my lack of programming skills have left me to turn to forums...any help would be greatly appreciated. *not asking for coding necessarily. Links to relative information pertaining to such a program/"loop", and any comments helping me understand what I'm trying to do would be great...I'm just not sure what to search for lol. Im still learning, just need helping starting a project. Thanks. I heard that when we put javascript in website, then site takes time to open, is it correct ? If yes then which script is good for website.
I'm sorry I don't have a website to go with my question...it's on a dev server. But it's fairly simple I think. I have a php script running server side that I'm looping through (using different numbers at the end of the php page to get new content each iteration), and I want to grab the content of the php page to display, inside a google maps infowindow ideally. The problem is, right now the infowindow displays just the link. I want the content of what the link is (which is just a few words in any case). Here's the general code where I place the page inside a variable and then try to display the contents of the page in html variable (the link I show here won't work but it gives you the idea): Code: var hazard_links = "https://ch.noaa.gov/m/googleapi/rec/extracthazards.php?lat="+lat+"&lon="+lon; var html = '<span style="font-size: 10pt; color: red;"><hr><a href="'+hazard_links+'" target = "_blank">' + hazard_links + '</a>' + '<span style="font-size: 10pt; color: red;">'; Thanks for any help, Do you log JavaScript errors on your live website? The actual errors that users experience? If you do, what tool do you use? And how is it woring out? If you don''t why not? Okay, so I'm a noob when it comes to JavaScript. I can write the most basic codes but even then it really doesn't make sense. Can anyone please help me figure this out? Any help is appreciated. If you need any more info just ask. Hey, everyone. I wrote a JavaScript for a forum based RPG. This is the first JavaScript that I ever wrote and I was surprised that it actually worked the way it was supposed to. The problem is that when I post it in a thread on the phpBB forum, the link that says "Jump!" doesn't do anything. When I save the code to Notepad and open on my browser, the link works fine. <html> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> function calculate() { var RACE, RAND=Math.floor(Math.random()*3); RACE = document.calcform.RACE.value; if (RACE == 1 && RAND != 0) {document.write("<a href=http://desertcolossus.com/adventures/viewforum.php?f=2>Land</a>"); } if (RACE == 1 && RAND == 0) {document.write("<a href=http://desertcolossus.com/adventures/viewforum.php?f=2>Secret Area 1</a>"); } if ((RACE == 2 || RACE == 3 || RACE == 4) && RAND != 0) {document.write("<a href=http://desertcolossus.com/adventures/viewforum.php?f=3>Land</a>"); } if ((RACE == 2 || RACE == 3|| RACE == 4) && RAND == 0) {document.write("<a href=http://desertcolossus.com/adventures/viewforum.php?f=3>Secret Area 2</a>"); } if ((RACE == 5 || RACE == 6) && RAND != 0) {document.write("<a href=http://desertcolossus.com/adventures/viewforum.php?f=4>Land</a>"); }; if ((RACE == 5 || RACE == 6) && RAND == 0) {document.write("<a href=http://desertcolossus.com/adventures/viewforum.php?f=4>Secret Area 3</a>"); }; if (RACE == 7 && RAND != 0) {document.write("<a href=http://desertcolossus.com/adventures/viewforum.php?f=5>Land</a>"); }; if (RACE == 7 && RAND == 0) {document.write("<a href=http://desertcolossus.com/adventures/viewforum.php?f=5>Secret Area 4</a>"); }; if (RACE == 8 && RAND != 0) {document.write("<a href=http://desertcolossus.com/adventures/viewforum.php?f=6>Land</a>"); }; if (RACE == 8 && RAND == 0) {document.write("<a href=http://desertcolossus.com/adventures/viewforum.php?f=6>Secret Area 5</a>"); }; } </script> <form id="calcform" name="calcform"> <label for="RACE">RACE</label> <input type="text" size="3" id="RACE" name="RACE" /> <a href="javascript:calculate()">Jump!</a> </form> Enter the number associated with your character's race. 1 - Goron 2 - Sheikah 3 - Hylian 4 - Human 5 - Gerudo 6 - Zora 7 - Deku 8 - Fairy </body> </html> Hello, I made a little code for my website but it doesn't work and I can't find out what the problem is. The problem is that the line return 2; does return undefined and not 2 as expected. I also tried to replace var xmlhttp2 = ''; for var xmlhttp2 = null; but it still not work. Does anyone know what is incorrect? Thanks in advance, PHP Code: function get_image(url) { var xmlhttp2 = ''; xmlhttp2=GetXmlHttpObject() xmlhttp2.onreadystatechange=function() { if (xmlhttp2.readyState == 4) { return 2; } }; xmlhttp2.open("GET", 'image_print.php?url=' + url, true); xmlhttp2.send(null); //return output; } ok this is all hyperthetical and ground work (phishing) for me so any and advice will be warmly welcomed. I would like to start and e-commerce site BUT: I'm sure i should use javascript on client side to validate an order form BUT 1) server side, how is the order revalidated --- ie is javascript used again on server or use of another language? 2) could someone explain how information from order form is connected to an (SQL) database ---- and how is that database then updated? What language is used? (I am talking about the general process here) At the momment i'm researching SQL http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/...ving-data.html and e-commerce database design http://www.princeton.edu/~rcurtis/ul...mdatabase.html but I have no idea how all this is connected and where Javascript finishes and where I need to research further in oreder to put things together. Any help would be fantastic sorry for the novice questions. low tech Hi! I'm new to JavaScript and I've done some small adjustments to my clients site, but it won't show properly in IE (the shadowbox js at least.). I thought js was accepted in all newer browsers. Do you have a quick fix or idea on why it doesn't work? You can view source on my site, I use mootools, and shadowbox/corners and rightclick blocker. Is it generally a 'bad thing' to use js in webpages I want everyone to view in the same way? I tried the same effects with CSS but it's not supported in the same way corss-browser, unfortunately. The 'no selection' CSS class I have on the site is also not accepted in IE. It's very annoying! http://santinacrolla.ihaarr.com/p thank you in advance! Hi, I have a javascript I created to compare the textbox value to the array and write something on the textbox but somehow it is giving me a syntax error. I am not good in javascript so I am really not sure which one is giving me problem. Can someone please help? Thanks. My logic is to check if my 18 textbox is not empty and if not then get the label of each textbox and compare to my array listed below. If the value of each label in the textbox exist, then write and equal word in the hidden textbox and if it doesn't exist, increment to the value of 1 to the textbox. Here is my javascript code: Code: function CalculateTotal(){ var homelessness = new Array (); homelessness[0] = "70250", homelessness[1] = "70260", homelessness[2] = "70750", ); var financial = new Array (); financial[0] = "96580", financial[1] = "96500", financial[2] = "96580", ); var emergency = new Array (); emergency[0] = "79660", emergency[1] = "80105", emergency[2] = "96020", ); for (i=3; i<18; i++) for (var k=3; k<18; k++) { if((amounts[i] != "") && (amounts[i] == desig[k])) { var issueId = impact.charAt(k); var impact_txt = document.getElementById(issueId).value; for ( var x = 0; x < homelessness.length; x++ ) { var myArray[ homelessness[ x ] ] = homelessness[ x ]; if ( myArray[impact_txt] == homelessness[] ) && (document.getElementById('impact1').value == "")) { document.getElementById('impact1').value = "Homelessness"; } } for ( var x = 0; x < financial.length; x++ ) { var myArray[ financial[ x ] ] = financial[ x ]; if ( myArray[impact_txt] == financial[] ) && (document.getElementById('impact2').value == "")) { document.getElementById('impact2').value = "Financial Stability and Independence"; } } for ( var x = 0; x < emergency.length; x++ ) { var myArray[ emergency[ x ] ] = emergency[ x ]; if ( myArray[impact_txt] == emergency[] ) && (document.getElementById('impact2').value == "")) { document.getElementById('impact3').value = "Emergency Crisis and Services"; } } } } } } //body code <table> <tr> <td style="width:380px;text-align:left"><label for="d" id="D" name="D" title="80104">Crime and Drug Use <a href="javascript:alert('');">what is this?</a></label></td> <td style="float:right"> $<input id="d" name="d" class="text" type="text" value="<?php safeEcho($form['d'])?>" style="width:90px;" onChange="CalculateTotal();" /> <?php helper_error('d');?> </td><td> <input name="impact1" id="impact1" type="text" value="" onclick="CalculateTotal();" /> </td> </tr> <tr> <td style="width:380px;text-align:left"><label for="e" id="E" name="E" title="80101">Early Childhood Development <a href="javascript:alert('');">what is this?</a></label></td> <td style="float:right"> $<input id="e" name="e" class="text" type="text" value="<?php safeEcho($form['e'])?>" style="width:90px;" onChange="CalculateTotal()" /> <?php helper_error('e');?> </td><td> <input name="impact2" id="impact2" type="text" value="" onclick="CalculateTotal();" /> </td> </tr> <tr> <td style="width:380px;text-align:left"><label for="f" id="F" name="F" title="80105">Emergency and Crisis Services <a href="javascript:alert('');">what is this?</a></label></td> <td style="float:right"> $<input id="f" name="f" class="text" type="text" value="<?php safeEcho($form['f'])?>" style="width:90px;" onChange="CalculateTotal()" /> <?php helper_error('f');?> </td><td> <input name="impact3" id="impact3" type="text" value="" onclick="CalculateTotal();" /> </td> </tr> Hope you can help me to make my javascript work. Thanks. I write for ezinearticles, hubpages, bukisa etc. and obtained author widgets for my site. When placed in Sidebar, the w3c validator throws hundreds of errors, whereas if I place the same code in pages, it works flawlessly. Do I need some special code to put it in the sidebar? The code goes on something like this: Code: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ezinearticles.com/widget/inc/eawidget.js"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="http://ezinearticles.com/widget/widgetfetch.php?theme=100&cheader=bb2020&cborder=d0d0d0&cbackground=f1f1f1&ctopic=f1f1f1&ctopictext=000000&ch3=bb2020&cfooter=f1f1f1&cfootertext=000000&height=400&width=315&articles=3&authorid=My Name&bio=1"></script> Can someone help me out on this? Thanks Hi Everyone, I have a strange problem that I can't resolve. Have a look at www.snaptease.co.uk/random.html and you will see a random image every time you refresh. Now look at www.snaptease.co.uk/random1.html and you won't see the image. The only difference is in the js/random.js and js/random1.js each file references. js/random.js uses the same html link to index.html js/random1.js links to individual html files that exist and valid. The working code looks like this: [CODE] images[0] = "<a href = 'index.html'><img src='images/games/aa01q.jpg' alt='album art' title='Do you recognise this album?'></a>";[CODE] The non working code looks like this: [CODE] images[0] = "<a href = 'answers/aa01.html'><img src='images/games/aa01q.jpg' alt='album art' title='Do you recognise this Album?'></a>";[CODE] Even if I enter the full url it makes no difference. Please tell me what I am doing wrong and how to fix it. I've been banging my head over this for a while now so I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance Martin |
