JavaScript - .open Post Data How To Keep Text Formatting?
Hi all,
im sure this will be pretty simple, at the moment i have some code which sends text from a textarea to a php file, the php file then stores the data into a database. the javascript post is as follows: Code: var text = document.getElementById(area).value; http.open('post', 'autosave.php?text='+text); there is a little bit more to this(just a handle response). My issue is that when the data is passed through javascript newlines and breaks disappear, so when i call the saved data it is presented as one long string with no formatting. i tried the nl2br() function and htmlspecialchars() function in the php file that the javascript passes the data to, this made no difference. I then tried to replace /n with <br /> in the javascript before passing the text variable again this made no differnce. Does anyone have any ideas how to keep formatting during this process? Similar TutorialsSituation: adding code to an HTML page that I can add to, but not change any existing code, as it is from a vendor and gets generated on the fly. I need to add a button within the existing <form></form> construct that already has a submit button and the form has an "action=" in it. What I have done is added <input type=button onClick=myscript().... Myscript() opens a .php file as a popup, positions it correctly, and all that. What it doesn't do is move the values to the .php like a method=POST would. Is there anyway to to do this, or do I have to do a set of document.write statements? Existing code: Code: <!-- vendor's untouchable code --> <form method=post name="MainForm" action="xxx.asp?yyy" onsubmit="the_vendors_code();> <input type="text" name="fielda" value="" > <!-- several more fields --> <!-- my code --> <SCRIPT type="text/javascript" SRC="xxx.js"></SCRIPT> <SCRIPT type="text/javascript"> function popupForm(myForm, windowName) { var scrny=0 ; var scrnx=200 <-! code to set scrny and scrnx based on browser --> fielda_h.value = fielda.value ; <!-- etc ..> <!-- here's the place I need help --> newWin= window.open("myPopup.php", windowName, 'height=600,width=550,and a whole bunch of other parameters') ; newWin.moveTo(scrnx, scrny) ; myForm.rel="nofollow" target=windowName; return true ; } </script> <input type="hidden" name="fielda_h" > <input type="button" name="preview" value="See Preview" onClick="popupForm(this, 'join')"/> Note that some of the code was taken from examples found on the net, so there's not a ton of originality here. So, again, just to restate, I know how to do a submit button/form to do action=post, but I am trying to simulate it with a regular button as I cannot change the existing <form></form> construct. Thanks for any and all pointers. THANKS I am not too familiar with java but found a script to use on my web page. I would like to formate the text and cahnge the color. In the jvav script I can't find those attributes. How can I make these cahnges? Thanks! Alexis I have text being called from an array, however my HTML formatting in the array is not working. How do I add formatting to text in an array? Also how do I make a portion of the array a link? For example: Code: var Text = new Array( "<br /><font style="color:red">URL:</font> <a href="www.google.com">www.google.com</a>", "<br /><font style="color:red">URL:</font> <a href="www.yahoo.com">www.yahoo.com</a>" ); I'm trying to reduce the height of input buttons, but am unable to center the text vertically. Tried every css trick I know, but the text is still too low (I can make it lower :P). Any way to do this?
I am trying to update the text in a span with a date (which is working fine), but I also want to format that date before it is updated in the span. For example, in the text area I input a date (format: YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS), and I'd like to output between the span tags M-D-YYYY. Does that make sense? I'm totally lost here and hoping someone can help me out. Here is the javascript. Code: function show_post_date() { var ele = document.getElementById("post_date"); var text = document.getElementById("new_post_date"); // Get the date value, then format it var formatted_date = ele.value; // THIS IS WHAT I'VE TRIED, BUT NOTHING IS UPDATED INTO THE SPAN IF I INCLUDE THIS var curr_date = formatted_date.getDate(); var curr_month = formatted_date.getMonth(); var curr_year = formatted_date.getFullYear(); formatted_date = curr_date + "-" + curr_month + "-" + curr_year; // END SECTION OF WHAT I'VE TRIED if(ele.value != "") { text.innerHTML = formatted_date; } } Here is the element Code: When: <span id='new_post_date' style='font-weight:bold;'></span> <input type="text" name="post_date" id="post_date" value="" onChange='show_post_date()' /> I am not very knowledgeable with javascript. I have an application with a button that opens up another website. That website requires credentials. I'm currently using window.open to get the url open and passing a variable to the end of the URL, but when I have searched for a good way to get the credentials passed by using post and can't seem to find a solution. I tried xmlhttprequest, but the limitation of cross-domains is huge because I will have external clients connecting to the database and don't think that asking them to lower the security settings in IE would be a good way to do it. All I need is the ability to click on the button, pass the username and password and have the url open to desired page. I posted the code of the application in another thread, but all I'm getting are just views. Please help. thanks.
I'm having major pains trying to figure this out. I'm kind of new to Javascript, I need to open a text file from an external server, store each line in an array, then search that array for a certain word (HIGH), and if it exists then write something to the webpage, and if not, write something else. Here is what I have so far: Code: <html> <head> <title>Test</title> <script> <!-- function test(x) { if (wxd1txt.readyState === 4 && wxd1txt.status === 200) { // Makes sure the document is ready to parse and Makes sure it's found the file. var wxd1text = wxd1txt.responseText; var wxd1array = wxd1txt.responseText.split("\n"); // Will separate each line into an array var wxd1high = wxd1array.toString(); //Converting the String content to String //var highsearchreg = new RegExp("HIGH"); //var wxd1high = wxd1array[x].search(highsearchreg); document.write(wxd1high); if (wxd1high.search("HIGH") >= 0){ document.write("HIGH RISK");} else { document.write("NO RISK");} } } //--> </script> </head> <body> Hi! <script> <!-- var Today = new Date(); var ThisDay = Today.getDate(); var ThisMonth = Today.getMonth()+1; var ThisYear = Today.getYear(); var Hour = Today.getHours(); var Day2 = Today.getDate()+1; var Day3 = Today.getDate()+2; if (navigator.appName != "Microsoft Internet Explorer") { ThisYear = ThisYear + 1900;} if (ThisMonth < 10) { ThisMonth = "0" + ThisMonth;} if (ThisDay < 10) { ThisDay = "0" + ThisDay;} if (Hour == 2 || Hour == 22 || Hour == 23 || Hour == 0 || Hour == 1) { var wxHourd1 = 0600} else if (Hour >= 3 && Hour <= 10) { var wxHourd1 = 1300;} else if (Hour >= 11 && Hour <= 13) { var wxHourd1 = 1630;} else if (Hour >= 14 && Hour <= 16) { var wxHourd1 = 2000;} else if (Hour >= 17 && Hour <= 21) { var wxHourd1 = 0100;} //var wxurld1 = "http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/archive/"+ThisYear+"/KWNSPTSDY1_"+ThisYear+""+ThisMonth+""+ThisDay+""+wxHourd1+".txt"; var wxurld1 = "http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/archive/2010/KWNSPTSDY1_201005101300.txt" //(High risk day for testing) //document.write(wxurld1); //Use this to verify this section is working if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { wxd1txt=new XMLHttpRequest(); } else // IE 5/6 { wxd1txt=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } wxd1txt.open("GET", wxurld1, true); wxd1txt.onreadystatechange = test(); // --> </script> </body> </html> When added to a webpage, nothing shows up except the "Hi!" and there are no errors in the Javascript Console in Google Chrome. Is this possible with Javascript, and if so, what am I doing wrong or not doing? Also, I have 2 URLs, one is a text file that has the HIGH text I want for an example, the other is the current file, which shouldn't have HIGH in it (unless the weather in the US turns really bad) This one is tricky. I can do this in php, however, I would like to keep everything on the same page. In a nutshell I'd like my users to export some data but after they click the export button I need them to input a key which will then be placed into a variable and the posted. Here's a simplified version of how script works without the key: Code: <?PHP if(isset($_POST['Export'])){ $file = $_POST['Export']; $hostname = $_SERVER['SERVER_NAME']; $hostname = str_replace('www.', '', $hostname); $file_location = "http://".$hostname."/filelocation/".$file; $list = file_get_contents("$file_location"); # filename for download $filename = "$file.txt"; header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=\"$file\""); header("Content-Type: text/plain"); echo $list; } ?> <form action="" method="post"> <input type=hidden value="$file" name="Export"> <input type=submit value="Export"></form> I know this is a javascript category and I have php. However, what I want is javascript. My users cannot access the page (traditionally) because a key needs to first be submitted. This is what I need help with > Find a way to use javascript when the 'Export' button is pressed to open a pop-up window for the user to submit their key. > Place there key into a variable. From there I can use PHP to post the variable, extract the data and allow the user to export. Something like this: Code: if(isset($_POST['Export'])){ //The user pressed the export button - use javascript to envoke pop-up //<!--javascript pop-up code--> //The user submitted their key - place it in a variable //<!--javascript code to post key into variable--> $key = $_GET['key']; $file = $_POST['Export']; $hostname = $_SERVER['SERVER_NAME']; $hostname = str_replace('www.', '', $hostname); $file_location = "http://".$hostname."/filelocation/".$file."php?key=".$key; $list = file_get_contents("$file_location"); # filename for download $filename = "$file.txt"; header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=\"$file\""); header("Content-Type: text/plain"); echo $list; } ?> <form action="" method="post"> <input type=hidden value="$file" name="Export"> <input type=submit value="Export"></form> If I can get the user to place a key in a simple input box (through a javascript pop-up after they've clicked the button) then I can post the variable and retrieve the data. Any ideas? Hi guys, hoping you can help me out again, with this new problem. I've got a form which is acting as a calculator. Once the calculation is complete I want it so when the user presses a 'print' button it takes certain parts of the form data and displays them in a new window which would be designed for printing. how can i go about this using only javascript? thanks Hi, I have a problem with sending data from a form to a php script with AJAX. To test if it works, I try to send data from the form, print it in the php with "echo", and then put it back in the initial html file. My Javascript code is: Code: function registerPrivateUser() { xmlhttp=GetXmlHttpObject(); if (xmlhttp==null) { alert ("Your browser does not support AJAX!"); return; } var postData="firstName="+ document.getElementById("txtFirstName").value; var url="classes/users/checkRegistration.php"; xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=stateChanged; xmlhttp.open("POST",url, true); //xmlHttp.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=UTF-8"); xmlhttp.send(postData); } The function stateChanged, basically says: Code: if (xmlhttp.readyState==4) { var strResponse; strResponse=xmlhttp.responseText; alert('Response:' + xmlhttp.responseText); } checkRegistration.php looks like this: PHP Code: <? session_start(); $firstName=$_POST['firstName']; echo($firstName); ?> The problem is that the response is empty, but I don't know why. I have checked the input data and the postData variable says "firstName="+input (e.g. "firstName=Robert"), so that's not the error. I have read several forum posts here, but still haven't figured out what I'm doing wrong. If anyone could please tell me, I would appreciate it alot. With these 2 conditions, I lost my saved value from variable and hence new popup is keep coming when the action is same.
