I have used the code of my affiliate software to show my company logo. This code works in Firefox, but for some reason doesn't work in IE. The company who own the affiliate software have never seen this problem before and have been unable to assist. Not sure if it's a server problem? To see the problem have a look at logo at the top of my test website in firefox then IE. http://www.nctshop.co.uk/staging/ Here is a snippet of the code below. I am quite new to the web design world, and have only taken 2 classes on the subject. I used a Javascript function that was provided to us in one of my HTML coding classes in order to automatically resize the (nesting?) div's according to how long the content in them is. This all seems to work perfectly fine in Google Chrome, as well as most versions of Internet Explorer - however, in some versions of internet explorer, and ALL versions of Firefox, this resize function does not seem to work. Since this coding was provided to me by a teacher (who is unfortunately in another country), I'm not sure what kinda of edit would make it so it would function in Firefox, or if there is a way to make in function in Firefox at all. I would appreciate if some of you could take a look at it, and let me know if you have any ideas/suggestions/advice, as to what is happening with the code/why it does not work in Firefox/some versions of Internet Explorer. The specific javascript code (which i assume is the issue here - please let me know if I'm wrong about it being the javascript that isn't working) is he PHP Code: function fnReset(){ document.getElementById('dTorso').style.height="380px"; document.getElementById('dMiddle').style.height="auto"; var middleHt=document.getElementById('dMiddle').scrollHeight; var maxHt=Math.max(380,middleHt); document.getElementById('dTorso').style.height=maxHt + "px"; document.getElementById('dMiddle').style.height=maxHt + "px"; } Which is then called to action he Code: <body onLoad="fnReset();> Also, in some versions of Firefox, the background image for the whole page isn't showing up either - any tips on why that is happening would also be amazing. Thank you so much for any help you may provide. This is a gift to my sister and her fiance, and I really want it to work well for them, and all their guests. Thanks! Hi, I am having a strange problem. I have a javascript that I am running on my system and on server(both in IE and FF). The problems I am encountering are as follows: My system IE - everything working fine FF - Not able to set focus correctly. When focus() is called, it jumps to next field. On Server IE - Focus doesnt set as expected. No blinking cursor.Doesnt do anything. FF- Same thing as above. When focus functionality is called, nothing happens. It is a long javascript, but here is a snapshot of the code with problem. Please let me know if you want to know about any variables. The (fname,lname..)are all the Name attributes of textbox. userArray is a array containg the number of users whose information is not filled up correctly(ie. some reqd fields are left empty). Code: df=document.form; for(var j=0;j< val;j++) { if(df['fname'+userArray[j]].value =="") { df['fname'+userArray[j]].focus(); break; } else if(df['lname'+userArray[j]].value =="") { df['lname'+userArray[j]].focus();break; } else if(df['ph'+userArray[j]].value =="") { df['ph'+userArray[j]].focus();break; } else if(df['email'+userArray[j]].value =="") { df['email'+userArray[j]].focus();break; } else if(df['comp'+userArray[j]].value =="") { df['comp'+userArray[j]].focus();break; } else if(df['addra'+userArray[j]].value =="") { df['addra'+userArray[j]].focus();break; } else if(df['city'+userArray[j]].value =="") { df['city'+userArray[j]].focus();break; } else if(df['state'+userArray[j]].value =="") { df['state'+userArray[j]].focus();break; } else if(df['zip'+userArray[j]].value =="") { df['zip'+userArray[j]].focus();break; } else if(df['country'+userArray[j]].value =="") { df['country'+userArray[j]].focus();break; } } The code is definitely not clean, pls forgive me for that. Any suggestion on that will be appreciated. Thanks Hey everyone. I have built a simple page for where I work, nothing complex going on here at all. But for some reason it won't run the Javascript functions in Firefox. Sarfari and Chrome work fine. It's not calling any external files or anything, like I said super simple. So if anyone can go to the page, view the source, take a look and let me know what I am missing here I would be greatly appreciative. http://www.aaronhager.com/BM/ To see what it does, just open that link in Chrome or Safari. I am more of a Flash guy then Javascript, and hopefully the reason is simple for one of you geniuses out there. Thanks A. Hey guys, My code works perfectly fine in internet explorer and google chrome, however, in firefox it does not. I have created an online form, but nothing happens when pressing the "submit" button firefox, whereas in other browsers, it works correctly. Also, the centering of the form is different. Hi All, This is my first post in this forum. I am relatively new to javascript. Hope I get some guidance here. Also I would like to contribute here when I get little expertise on javascript. I have developed following snippet of code, which is working very well with firefox 6.0. But when it comes to IE 8.0, it just does not work. Quote: <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> function refreshFrame() { frames['top'].window.location.href = "report.php?parent_id=<? echo $parent_id; ?>"; } </script> </head> <? include('style.php'); include('PHP_functions.php'); print(" <FRAMESET rows='96,100' onLoad=refreshFrame() BORDERCOLOR=blue BORDER=0> <FRAME SRC=blank.html SCROLLING=NO NORESIZE NAME=top> <FRAME SRC=manage.php?view=show_all&parent_id=$parent_id NAME=bottom> </FRAMESET> "); ?> </HTML> In the above script, I am trying to load the frame top after loading frame bottom, as the latter takes more time to load due to some processing involved. Till frame bottom is under processing stage, I display a message "Processing Please wait" which is coming from blank.html. Working under Firefox: It loads blank.html first and displays the message as "processing please wait". Once frame bottom has completed the processing it displays its contents at second half of the webpage. Then finally frame top gets loaded on first half of the web page. This is the expected result. Here URL does not change as the URL remains same as before "http://xyz.com/index.html" Not Working under IE It loads blank.html first and displays the message as "processing please wait". Once frame bottom has completed the processing it displays its contents at second half of the webpage. Then finally frame top gets loaded on whole page instead of first half of the page. Here URL changes to complete new URL as "http://xyz.com/report.php?parent_id" Can anyone please suggest what could be reason for this. Thanks, Vinay It works in Google Chrome but not Firefox and Internet Explorer. My computer has blocked Opera and I don't know how to change that. Too much energy to investigate now, I'll do so later. Are there any pros that can tell me why this is happening? I'm assuming GoogleChrome is fixing a syntax error that FF and IE don't. Code: var request; request=false; try { request = new XMLHttpRequest(); } catch (trymicrosoft) { try { request = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch (othermicrosoft) { try { request = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch (failed) { request = false; } } } function isAlNum(str){ return /^[a-z0-9]+$/i.test(str); } var preUsername; var same; function updatePage() { if (username.value.length>0){ if ( request.responseText.indexOf("0") == -1 ) {userNameErrorBox.innerHTML=username.value + " has already been taken"; usernameSuccessBox.innerHTML="";} else {userNameErrorBox.innerHTML=""; usernameSuccessBox.innerHTML=username.value + " is available";}} } function nameTest() { if (username.value==preUsername) {same=1;} else {same=0;} if (!isAlNum(username.value)) {if (username.value.length>0) {username.value=preUsername;}} else {preUsername=username.value;} if (username.value.length>0 && username.focus && same===0) { userNameErrorBox.innerHTML="";usernameSuccessBox.innerHTML=""; request.abort(); var url = "/unseen/checkIfUserNameExist.php?name=" + username.value; request.open("GET", url, true); request.onreadystatechange = updatePage; request.send(null); } if (username.value.length===0) { userNameErrorBox.innerHTML="";usernameSuccessBox.innerHTML="";preUsername=""; } } I back tracked what i did and it appears that this code Code: var url = "/unseen/checkIfUserNameExist.php?name=" + username.value; request.open("GET", url, true); request.onreadystatechange = updatePage; request.send(null); has the problem. When I set up alerts to see what works and what doesn't, this code seems to be causing the FF and IE to not work, but I can't tell what it is that's causing them to fail. This is javascript that is suppose to check if a name has been taken by another user. I'm working on a fairly large project that I wish to be the new formspring, (size wise) I procrastinated for 2 weeks of my 12 week break and now that I'm just getting started on it I'm running into an ishness load of problems... Very de-motivating My web pages are built with JSP + javascript + AJAX, so a little dynamic when loading a page (it is NOT a static HTML text page). As a common practice, when users visits my website, they can click on a hyperlink to open another webpage. When they want to go back, they can click the browser's BACK button that will bring them back to where they were. What happened to the firefox is that when its default CACHE runs out, it will display: Document Expired This document is no longer available. The requested document is not available in Firefox'x cache. ... [Try Again] The general solution is that I can go to the Options page to either increase the CACHE limit ot clean up the CACHE. But for a public user, they either do not know what to do or assume that my website has problem! Please offer some suggestion to solve this problem such that regardless the caching, the browser's BACK button (or script window.history.back() will always bring it back to the previous page. Thanks Scott P.S. I have tried: <meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate" /> --> <!-- <meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache" /> --> <!-- <meta http-equiv="Expires" content="0" /> --> This is an example piece of code which I wish to add to an onkeydown event: Code: function keyListen(param1,param2,e) { // keycode for ie if(window.event) { e = window.event; var keycode = e.keyCode; } // keycode for firefox, safari and opera else { var keycode = e.which; } // if right arrow key was pressed execute a function if(keycode == '39') { someFunction(param1,param2); } } Then somewhere else in my code I dynamically add the function to an onkeydown event like so: Code: document.onkeydown = function() { keyListen(param1,param2,event) }; This works great in Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari and Google Chrome but not Firefox. Firefox keeps reporting that event is not defined, is there a way around this problem? I have also tried this: Code: document.onkeydown = function() { keyListen(param1,param2) }; I excluded the event, but still the same outcome, works well in all browsers apart from Firefox. Please help me, thankyou. I'm new to JavaScript, just started an adult education class in it. I wrote a simple script to view a list of document properties and their values. This part works in Internet Explorer: for (var prop in document){ p_prop = prop; p_list[i] = p_prop + " : " + document[prop] + "<br />"; but doesn't in FireFox. I was wondering how to get the value of a property in FireFox. Thanks. Hi coders, I have an .asp page on which you can change the background picture of a cell by simply selecting the desired color from a dropdown field. When running the page in Firefox its Error console tells me the following: Error: document.getElementById.bgtd is undefined Source File: [localhost...] Line: 29 Here is the code: <select name=ADDITIONALINFO1 ID="Select1" onchange="changebg(document.forms[0].ADDITIONALINFO1[document.forms[0].ADDITIONALINFO1.selectedIndex].value)"> <option value="White"> White <option value="Black"> Black <option value="Blue"> Blue </select> And here is the changebg script: function changebg(color){ if (color=="Black") document.getElementById("bgtd").background = "img/bg-tshirt5.jpg"; else if (color=="Blue") document.getElementById("bgtd").background = "img/bg-tshirt_bl.jpg"; else document.getElementById("bgtd").background = "img/bg-tshirt2.jpg"; document.forms[0].bgimg.value = document.getElementById("bgtd").background; } Here is the table where the image is displayed as bachground: <td width="353" background="img/bg-tshirt2.jpg" height="269" id="bgtd"> <p align="center"><font size="1"> <br> <img src="<%=imgSrc%>"></font></td> Internet Explorer does not complain and does the job without any errors. I Could not find out how to make it work also with Firefox. Any comments are appreciated. Hi Coders, I have a javascript function which lets a user to choose one of the 7 option buttons on a "mainsub.asp" page and the page will then be forwarded to one of the 7 process pages depending on what has been chosen. The problem is that firefox is angry with the first line ("if" statement) and tells the following in its error console: Error: document.forms[0].C1 is not a function Source File: [localhost...] Line: 117 Here is the code: function fSubmit(){ if (document.forms[0].C1(0).checked) document.forms[0].action="process.asp"; else if (document.forms[0].C1(1).checked) document.forms[0].action="process1.asp"; else if (document.forms[0].C1(2).checked) document.forms[0].action="process2.asp"; else if (document.forms[0].C1(3).checked) document.forms[0].action="process3.asp"; else if (document.forms[0].C1(4).checked) document.forms[0].action="process4.asp"; else if (document.forms[0].C1(5).checked) document.forms[0].action="process5.asp"; else if (document.forms[0].C1(6).checked) document.forms[0].action="process6.asp"; else document.forms[0].action="process.asp"; return; } Internet explorer does not complain about anything and does its job great. But I could not figure out how to change the code to be also compliant with Firefox? Thanks for all the comments. Hi ALL, I am validating a three form field which takes temperature value between 0-50, humidity 1-100 & rainfall 0-200. I am able to see expected result for temperature value but not getting correct value for humidity & rainfall(still one can insert text in it..) Here is my code-: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function validate_form(thisform) { with (thisform) { if (validate_required(obdate,"Date must be filled out!")==false) { obdate.focus();return false;} } is_leaf_fresh = -1; for (i=0;i < thisform.is_leaf_fresh.length; i++) { if (thisform.is_leaf_fresh[i].checked == true) { //alert("coming into "+thisform.is_leaf_fresh[i].checked); is_leaf_fresh = 1; } } if ((is_leaf_fresh == -1)) { alert("You must select an option for Fresh Leaf!"); return false; } var temp_max; temp_max = document.getElementById("temperature_max").value; if (temp_max != '' ) { var numericExpression = /^[0-9]+$/; if(temp_max.match(numericExpression) && (temp_max>=0 && temp_max<=50)){ return true; } else{ alert("Max Temperature value should be Numeric & between 0 to 50"); document.getElementById("temperature_max").focus(); return false; } } var temp_min; temp_min = document.getElementById("temperature_min").value; if (temp_min != '' ) { var numericExpression = /^[0-9]+$/; if(temp_min.match(numericExpression) && (temp_min>=0 && temp_min<=50)){ return true; } else{ alert("Min Temperature value should be Numeric & between 0 to 50!"); document.getElementById("temperature_min").focus(); return false; } } var rainfall_mm; rainfall_mm = document.getElementById("rainfall_mm").value; if (rainfall_mm != '' ) { var numericExpression = /^[0-9]+$/; if(rainfall_mm.match(numericExpression) && (rainfall_mm>=20 && rainfall_mm<=50)){ return true; } else{ alert("Min Temperature value should be Numeric & between 20 to 50!"); document.getElementById("rainfall_mm").focus(); return false; } } var humidity_mm; humidity_mm = document.getElementById("humidity_mm").value; if (humidity_mm != '' ) { var numericExpression = /^[0-9]+$/; if(humidity_mm.match(numericExpression) && (humidity_mm>=20 && humidity_mm<=50)){ return true; } else{ alert("Min Temperature value should be Numeric & between 20 to 50!"); document.getElementById("humidity_mm").focus(); return false; } } } </script> Thanks in Advance!! Hello all, I am trying to use document.getElementById in FF but its not working. There is a main page. in that mainpage there is a iframe and in that iframe (id = DocFrame) there is a textbox (id="fileuploadedcnt") which i am trying to access. there is no error. ofcourse i have given name and id to the textbox. Below is the code function ConfirmCertificate(id , Project_ID , Subprogram_ID , ITCType_TI) { frm=document.mainform; //fileuploadedcnt = (document.frames("DocFrame").document.forms("upload_form").elements("fileuploadedcnt").value); filecntobj = (document.getElementsByName("fileuploadedcnt")); filecntobj = (document.getElementById("fileuploadedcnt")); alert(fileuploadedcnt); alert((filecntobj.value)); return; if (fileuploadedcnt>0) { result=confirm("Are you sure you want to confirm this certificate? "); } In the abpve case i tried both the name and id properties. with Name property i get the HTMLObj alert but again it fails if i attach value method. And for id, it doesnt work at all No errors ofcourse in both the cases What am i missing Thanks Hello, I have WordPress installed in a directory of my website, and I'm using an iframe on the homepage to embed the blog. I'm using a javascript code that I found online to automatically resize the iframe based on the content inside of it. This is the code: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function resizeIframe() { document.getElementById('blog').style.height = document.getElementById ('blog').contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight + 'px'; } </script> This works perfectly in Google Chrome. However, in Firefox I get this error in the console: Code: Error: Permission denied to access property 'document' Source File: http://mysite.com/index1.html Line: 24 I don't have any experience with javascript, but this makes no sense to me, because it should work since the iframe document is on the same domain and server as the parent page. The parent is "mysite.com/index1.html" and the iframe document is "mysite.com/blog/". Why is Firefox complaining about this? It shouldn't violate the "same origin policy" that I have read about. Any help with getting this to work would be appreciated. |
