JavaScript - Need Help With Checkbox Validation And Data Output
First of all Thank you for looking at my issues. Just so you know, I am not a coder
I have a new set of problems I'm hoping someone can help me with. Please read all three problems listed below as they are all intertwined. Thank you for any assistance you have with these issues. First, here is the url to my test form http://www.rocpinions.com/test-main-form.html Next, Here is the code I am using. The code is set up on dog cat other and none. The test check 1 etc are all individual check box groups Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function checkI() { var other=0; var checkL = document.getElementsByName('form[PetsInHouse][]'); for (var i=0;i<checkL.length-1;i++){ if(document.getElementById('PetsInHouse3').checked){ document.getElementById('PetsInHouse'+i).disabled = true; document.getElementById('PetsInHouse'+i).checked = false; } else { document.getElementById('PetsInHouse'+i).disabled = false; } if(document.getElementById('PetsInHouse'+i).checked){ other++ } } document.getElementById('PetsInHouse3').disabled=other>0?true:false; } </script> And here is the call I am using onclick="checkI();" Problem 1 This code works fine as is is set up and does what it should. The problem is i am also using this on longer sets of check boxes and I would like to instead of disabling I would like to have it set up so if someone clicks dog cat and other then if they choose the check box "None" it would empty all other check boxes and check the check box "None" and visa versa if none was checked and they checked dog, it would empty the None check. Problem 2 I am using Joomla cms and a form constructor called RS Form Pro. It stores the data submitted in the form to a data base. As it is now, all the info in the check box group is submitted to ONE column. I need to submit it to individual columns for each choice. I can accomplish this by using individual check box groups for EACH item. This will put it in separate columns in the data base but I still need to have it set up so if someone clicks dog cat and other then if they choose the check box "None" it would empty all other check boxes and check the check box "None" and visa versa if none was checked and they checked dog, it would empty the None check. Problem 3 How it submits data to the data base Right now, it submits the data from the check boxes by the name of the check box. What I would like to have is a 1 if it IS checked and a 0 if IS NOT checked. Again, Thank you for any assistance DeZiner Similar TutorialsHey all. I have a simple validation I need to do. I need to just make sure that a Checkbox is checked, and that a Text field has content. Sounds simple but I cannot find any thing that has a check and a text field. Here what I have. Can I modify this script to do this? A Checkbox MUST be checked and Text field MUST be filled out. This currently does the text field fine, but no Checkbox obviously. How can I add a checkbox validation to this? Thats it. Any help is appreciated. Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var textFields = ["digsig"]; function validateForm( ) { var oops = ""; // must initialize this! var form = document.sig; for ( var t = 0; t < textFields.length; ++t ) { var field = form[textFields[t]]; var value = field.value.replace(/^\s+/,"").replace(/\s+$/,""); // trim the input if ( value.length < 1 ) { oops += "You MUST enter your Digital Signature"; } } if ( oops != "" ) { alert("ERROR:" + oops); return false; } } } </script> Hey guys, I am having a bit of an issue here. I have a form which has 3 checkboxes in it: (sorry, ignore the asp) Code: <input name="certs" id="certs" type="checkbox" <% If certs="on" Then Response.Write("checked=""checked""") %> /> <input name="nocerts" id="nocerts" type="checkbox" <% If nocerts="on" Then Response.Write("checked=""checked""") %> /> <input name="certsna" id="certsna" type="checkbox" <% If certsna="on" Then Response.Write("checked=""checked""") %> /> Anyways, I want to enforce the following: - Only one checkbox can be checked from these 3, no more - At least one checkbox must be checked before submission I have found a couple small scripts to validate that at least one is pressed, but I do not know how to make sure no more than one is pressed, and how to combine scripts is beyond me. Can anyone offer any assistance? Is this difficult to do? confused. my validation of the clicking on a checkbox doesn't seem to send the value with the form. Should I be adding value='whatever' in the xhtml? Code: <form method="post" id='myForm' name='myForm' onsubmit="return checkform(this)" action="/cgi-bin/script/520/9/98"> <script type='text/javascript'> //<![CDATA[ function checkform(form) { //validate the terms checkbox if (!document.myForm.acceptance.checked) { // ! means "not" document.getElementById("trmserr").innerHTML = "You must accept the terms and conditions"; document.getElementById("myForm").acceptance.value = ""; // clear the field setTimeout("document.getElementById('myForm').acceptance.focus()", 25); // refocus on it return false; } else { document.getElementById("trmserr").innerHTML = ""; } return true; } <span id="trmserr" class='formErrorWarning'></span> <p> <a class='tooltip' href='#'> <span class='compulsory'>*</span> <span class='the_tip'>This is required because, by proceeding, you are accepting these terms and conditions for this purchase. Hi All I am not a genius when it comes to javascript so if anyone could help, I would really be grateful. scenario: I am creating a custom product (75g) which will be made up of 3 others products (25g + 25g + 25g). The 3 options will be made up of a combination of smaller products each with their own options (25g, 50g, 75g) which will allow the customer to have one of each or fill up all 3 with just one type. I have a simple html form with 2 text fields and submit button 1 user name 2 pwd/token and 1 checkbox 'First time user' if 'first time user' is selected then the 'Submit' button to be enabled only if the customer puts exactly 6 digits on pwd/token. if it's unchecked then the submit button to be enabled only if the customer enters 10 digits(pin_token code) please send me code will be very thankful for your help I have a form, on which I have multiple checkboxes and text fields. I am trying to use some JavaScript code that I found by searching the web, my goal is to have a form with a "required" checkbox to force my users to acknowledge they have read my "Terms and Conditions" section. The code that I found ALMOST works properly - it does pop-up the "Alert" window when the checkbox is blank and the submit button is clicked... however, if the user closes the Alert window in order to click the checkbox in compliance, the "submit.form" command is executed before they have a chance. In other words, there is no "pause" in the execution of the script to allow the user to make the correction by clicking the checkbox. Here is the code: Code: <script LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> <!-- function ValidateForm(form){ ErrorText= ""; if ( form.terms.checked == false ) { alert ( "Please check the Terms & Conditions box." ); return false; } if (ErrorText= "") { form.submit() }} --> </script> Here is the HTML for the checkbox: Code: <input name="terms" type="checkbox" value="Yes" /> Here is the HTML for the submit button that calls the function: Code: <input type="submit" value="Continue" onclick="ValidateForm(this.form)" /> I've searched for other examples of code to accomplish this objective, but I'm hoping for a quicker solution by coming to the experts who can see the flaw in this JavaScript. Thanks for any help, Rob Hey everyone. I hope you can help me getting through this problem, because I have no idea of what else to try. I'm a web designer and sometimes modify Javascript, but my main focus is HTML and CSS, meaning I have no idea how to code in Javascript or how to write something from scratch in PHP. So I designed a form that works pretty well, and integrated a PHP and Javascript script to make it work. This is the form: Code: <form name="form" id="form" method="post" action="contact.php"> <p>Hello,</p> <p>My name is <input type="text" name="name">, from <input type="text" name="location">, and I'd like to get in touch with you for the following purpose:</p> <p><textarea name="message" rows="10" ></textarea></p> <p>By the way, my email address is <input type="text" name="email" id="email" placeholder="john@doe.com">, and I can prove I'm not a robot because I know the sky is <input type="text" name="code" placeholder="Red, green or blue?">.</p> <p title="Send this message."><input type="submit" id="submit" value="Take care."></p> </form> And this is the script, in an external file called contact.php: Code: <?php $name = check_input($_REQUEST['name'], "Please enter your name.") ; $location = check_input($_REQUEST['location']) ; $message = check_input($_REQUEST['message'], "Please write a message.") ; $email = check_input($_REQUEST['email'], "Please enter a valid email address.") ; if (!preg_match("/([\w\-]+\@[\w\-]+\.[\w\-]+)/",$email)) {die("E-mail address not valid");} if (strtolower($_POST['code']) != 'blue') {die('You are definitely a robot.');} $mail_status = mail( "my@email.com", "Hey!", "Hello,\n\n$message\n\nRegards,\n\n$name\n$location", "From: $email $name" ); function check_input($data, $problem='') { $data = trim($data); $data = stripslashes($data); $data = htmlspecialchars($data); if ($problem && strlen($data) == 0) { show_error($problem); } return $data; } function show_error($myError) { ?> <html> <body> <b>Please correct the following error:</b><br /> <?php echo $myError; ?> </body> </html> <?php exit(); } if ($mail_status) { ?> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> alert('Thank you for the message. I will try to respond as soon as I can.'); window.location = '/about'; </script> <?php } else { ?> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> alert('There was an error. Please try again in a few minutes, or send the message directly to aalejandro@bitsland.com.'); window.location = '/about'; </script> <?php } ?> So what it does is this: if everything's OK, it sends an email with "Hey!" as the subject, "[name]" as the sender, "Hello, [message]. Regards, [name], [location]" as the body, and a popup saying the message was delivered appears. If something fails, it outputs the error in a new address, so the user will have to go back to the form and correct the error. What I actually want to happen is this: if everything's OK, a <p> which was hidden beneath the form appears saying the message was delivered, or, alternatively, make the submit button gray out and confirm the message was delivered. I found a script to make this happen, but with "Please wait...", so the user can't resubmit the form. If there's an error, I'd like another <p> which was hidden to appear with the specific error, so there'd be many <p>'s hidden with different IDs. If possible, I'd also like to change the CSS style of the input field, specifically changing the border color to red, so it'd be a change in class for the particular field. -- So in essence, I want the errors and the success messages to output in the same page as the form (without refresh), and a change of class in the input fields that have an error. It'd be great if the submit button could be disabled until all fields are filled correctly, but I don't know if this is possible. Thanks in advance, and please let me know if it'll be possible. :) I am finishing up my Form page, and totally forgot to have a numeric only field. So I added it and I can't get it to work. I also am having issues throwing an error when you don't select at least one topping. And are these lines correct? Code: document.cookie = "toppings=" + encodeURIComponent(document.getElementsByName("toppings[]").value); Code: document.cookie = "extra=" + encodeURIComponent(extra); Here is a link to the page hosted on my dropbox http://dl.dropbox.com/u/49211616/dw/...orderPage.html Javascript: Code: function validateOrder () { var crustSelection = document.orderForm.crust.value; var crustPrice; //Adds $1 for Deep DishParmesagn, and Sourdough var count = 0; //Amount of Toppings Selected var choice = ""; //Toppings Selected list var x = ""; //Don't need for the Cookie var extra = 0; //extra charge for toppings over 3 try{ var error = ""; // Initialize Var to store the error messages. if(document.getElementById("delivery").checked != true && document.getElementById("takeout").checked != true) { error=error+"Order Type is required.\n" } if(document.getElementById("fname").value == "") { error = error + "First Name is required.\n"; } if(document.getElementById("lname").value == "") { error = error + "Last Name is required.\n"; } if(document.getElementById("address").value == "") { error = error + "Street address is required.\n"; } if (isNaN(document.getElementById("quantity"))) { error = error + "Enter Pizza Quantity in Numbers Only.\n"; } if(document.getElementById("crust").value == "") { error = error + "Crust Type is required.\n"; } if(document.getElementsByName("toppings").value == 0) { error = error + "Select at Least One Topping.\n"; } if(error == "") { // save all the information in the cookie document.cookie = "firstName=" + encodeURIComponent(document.getElementById("fname").value); document.cookie = "lastName=" + encodeURIComponent(document.getElementById("lname").value); document.cookie = "address=" + encodeURIComponent(document.getElementById("address").value); document.cookie = "order=" + encodeURIComponent((document.getElementById("delivery").checked) ? Okay, so I have a HTML doc with a JavaScript attached to it, and in the HTML I have a checkbox. All I want to do is to pass the checkbox data to Javascript as a true/false. Okay, so below is my HTML: Code: <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="java.js"></script> </head> <body> <input id="toggle" type="checkbox" value=""> </body> And this is my JS: Code: var toggleData = false; Now where do I go from here? I tried using getElementByld('toggle'); But no result. I sure would appetite some help here. Thanks hellow, i try to make a script that gets data from my mysql-database and displays it in a form with check boxes. if i select one or more check boxes the data with its checkbox should move to another column in the table in this form. all the other data and there checkboxes not selected should stay at its own place. in the future i want to work with 150 checkboxes. the part for getting it out off the database and display it in the form with the checkboxes is completed in PHP. but i'm stuck changing its place with the onclick handler from javascript. here you can see it working (but it's written when you click auto1 an click submit all the checkboxes change place and are selected) http://silent.comxa.com/m.php the code i have so far is: PHP Code: <? $ch11 = ''; $ch11 = $_POST['auto1']; $checked = isset($_POST['submit1']) && $_POST['auto1'] == 'on' ? 'checked="checked"' : ''; ?> </head> <body> <? @$cat=$_GET['cat']; if(strlen($cat) > 0 and !is_numeric($cat)){ echo "Data Error"; exit; } ///////// Getting the data from Mysql table ////////// $quer2=mysql_query("SELECT DISTINCT category,cat_id FROM category order by category"); ?> <form method="post" name="f2" action="m.php"><table width="828" border="1"> <?php while($noticia2 = mysql_fetch_array($quer2)) { if ($ch11 =='on'){ echo '<tr><td width="200" > </td><td width="300" > </td> <td width="200" > <input name="'.$noticia2[category].'" type="checkbox"'.$checked.'/> '.$noticia2[category].' </td><td width="100">'.$noticia2[cat_id].'</td></tr>'; } else { echo '<tr><td width="200" > <input name="'.$noticia2[category].'" type="checkbox"'.$checked.'/> '.$noticia2[category].' </td><td width="300" >'.$noticia2[cat_id].'</td><td width="200" > </td><td width="100" > </td></tr>';} } ?> </table> <?php echo '<input type="submit" name = "submit1" value="Submit"/>'; echo '</form>'; ?> I know that Javascript is client side, but I'd like to know the best way to populate HTML drop downs in real time based on information typed in the other HTML form fields with information found on the server as opposed to the client. For instance if a user wants to select certain files located in a directory on the server, as they type in the pathname supposedly containing the files the drop downs continually refresh themselves with the server files listed in that directory (if it exists, and apache has permissions to see what's inside) as if it was showing client files instead. What would be nice is if my browser could continually query the server for some of its private information and not have to refresh itself to obtain it, whether that means the server-side would have to continually refresh itself makes no difference to me as long as the client-side doesn't have to. But I guess this is not possible because no matter what you would have to at least refresh the client-side page once? Submitting the form to a CGI or PHP script would not work because I need this functionality to help populate the form BEFORE I send it. I would like to not have to press a button to update the form every time I change the pathname and need to update the drop downs since this would be annoying. I'm open to anything that could do this or something similar not just Javascript. I'm not sure if you could accomplish this by converting the HTML page to CGI/PHP and having it continually reload itself without refreshing the page? I'm not worried about any security risks this may pose because: 1) The server is located on company intranet which is firewalled 2) I could always password protect and encrypt all transmissions, making sure only authorized users use the app Hi guys, Been stuck for a few days with this scenario. Any help? The alert box appears on an error. But the submitting won't stop. The details are submitted and the form is processed. Any help is greatly appreciated... When A is unchecked, then uncheck B how can i do that? thanks a lot ! Hi, If I have two check-boxes and one is already checked and then the is checked, how would I get it to uncheck the first one using JavaScript. Thanks, Cs1h Hello all, new here Seems like a very nice place to be apart of. I have my website www.gebcn.com. If you view source you will see all that I have done, but more importantly my problem. I have the JS code at the top there and I am unable to W3C validate my HTML because of the JS. I am using XHTML strict and would like to stay using it. The JS I have at the top is my form validation code. I am able to do any validating that I need with this "snippet" of code, I have shrank it from my library version just to use for this newsletter. Until now W3C validating was not important now for some reason it is and I am faced with this problem. I am not a Javascript guy more of a HTML/CSS guy and I can manipulate JS to suit my needs. <problem> I have tried to make this "snippet" of JS code an external file but receive multiple errors with the JS calling for the FORM NAME as it is not on the same page. The form NAME=NEWSLETTER is another problem, as W3C says I am unable to use attribute "NAME" in this location. <problem> I would like to keep the JS close to how it is now as I have a library to use this JS over and over again. Any pointers in the right direction or solutions to my problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Hopefully it is not to hard huh If there is anything anyone needs, the code pasted here, or anything else please let me know. Thanks again! I am making a google CSE for a client site and I need to concatenate checkbox values together on the end of another form value. So I have a text box and the checkboxes: Code: <input name="q" cid="q" size="25" maxlength="50" value"off road tires"> <input type="checkbox" name="q" id="q" value="cooper|hankook" /> <input type="checkbox" name="q" id="q" value="Mickey Thompson|Bfgoodrich|GBC" /> <input type="checkbox" name="q" id="q" value="Hoosier|Nitto" /> For Google the URL string needs to be like this: Code: results.html?q=off road tires AND inurl:cooper|hankook|Mickey Thompson|Bfgoodrich|GBC this string says the person did not check the last box. I am having a hard time trying to do this. If you guys know a better way to accomplish the same thing I am all ears but I thought I would bring it to the experts and see what they had to say. Thanks for the help! I was trying to get total amount from these all checkbox, when I submit, but I don't know somewhere wrong. Please help me out. Here is my code: <html xmlns = "http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title> Form </title> <script language = "JavaScript"> // The event handler functions for the check boxes function appleHandler() { var number = document.orderForm.apples.value; total = total + number * 0.59; } function orangeHandler() { var number = document.orderForm.oranges.value; total = total + number * 0.49; } function bananaHandler() { var number = document.orderForm.bananas.value; total = total + number * 0.39; } // The event handler function to produce the total cost message // when "submit" is clicked function finish() { total = total * 1.05; alert("Thank you for your order \n" + "Your total cost is: $" + total + "\n"); } </script> </head> <body> <h3> Order Form </h3> <form name = "orderForm" onSubmit = "finish()"> <p> <input type = "checkbox" name = "apples" size = "3" onClick = "appleHandler()" /> Apples </p><p> <input type = "checkbox" name = "oranges" size = "3" onClick = "orangeHandler()" /> Oranges </p><p> <input type = "checkbox" name = "bananas" size = "3" onClick = "bananaHandler()" /> Bananas </p><p> <input type = "reset" name = "reset" /> <input type = "submit" name = "submit" /> </p> </form> </body> </html> |
