JavaScript - Please Assist Kind Fellows. Copy To Clipboard From A Selection In A Drop Down Menu?
I have been to this forum many times as a lurker and I have picked up some good information. For this I give Thanks wholeheartedly.
My situation: I enter information in a system based on the # of a report that comes in. So if I see a report that says "333" i want to enter specific information for "333" same with "444" and "555" and so on and so forth. So I want to have a drop down menu for 111, 222, 333, 444 etc... Basically what I need is, if I select the report # from the drop down menu, I want it to copy information from a HIDDEN textbox to the clipboard. That's it! I've been trying to figure it out, but to no avail. Sorry I am fake coder Similar TutorialsHey guys, I have a small page that reads from a mysql db and pretty much makes a row on the page for every row in the db, but, i need a way to have it so that when i click on a link from each row, it should automatically copy one of a cell from the db. so i have 3 columns in the DB: SITECODE, SALESCODE, and DEALERNAME, on my html page I have 4 colums, SITECODE, SALESCODE, DEALERNAME, and one that has a link which has a URL in it and adds the SITECODE automatically into it for each row. I need it so that when i click on the link for each row, it automatically copies to the clipboard the SALESCODE for that row. This is what I have so far, but it does not work for some reason. Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function copy_to_clipboard(text) { if(window.clipboardData) { window.clipboardData.setData('$myrow[salescode]',text); } else { } return false; } </script>[/B] <?php // load the configuration file. include("page-config.php"); //load all news from the database and then OREDER them by newsid //you will notice that newlly added news will appeare first. //also you can OREDER by (dtime) instaed of (news id) $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM salescode ORDER BY sitecode ASC",$connect); //lets make a loop and get all news from the database while($myrow = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) {//begin of loop //now print the results: echo "<tr><td width=\"25%\" valign=\"top\" bgcolor=\"615B67\" class=\"news\" style=\"border-bottom:1px dashed #A49FA5;border-left:1px solid #A49FA5;padding-top:.5em;padding-left:.5em;padding-bottom:.5em;\" align=center><table align=center width=\"100%\"><tr><td align=left><font size=\"2px\" color=\"ffcc00\"><b>"; echo $myrow['sitecode']; echo "</b></font></td></tr></table></td><td align=\"center\" width=\"50%\" valign=\"top\" bgcolor=\"615B67\" class=\"events\" style=\"border-bottom:1px dashed #A49FA5;\"><table align=center width=\"100%\"><tr><td width=\"50%\" class=\"events\" align=center><u>"; echo $myrow['salescode']; echo "</u></td><td width=\"50%\" class=\"events\" align=left>"; echo $myrow['dealername']; echo "</td></tr></table>"; echo "</td><td align=\"right\" width=\"25%\" valign=\"middle\" bgcolor=\"615B67\" style=\"border-right:1px solid #A49FA5;border-bottom:1px dashed #A49FA5;\"><a onclick=\"copy_to_clipboard('text')\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https://testing/loadSiteInfo.do?branch=usa&siteCode=$myrow[sitecode]\"><font size=\"2px\"><b>"; echo $myrow['sitecode']; echo "</b></font></a> </td></tr>"; }//end of loop ?> Code: solved ! Hi! Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I'm using Javascript so it kinda made sense I have some Javascript that is selecting text from a form textarea and copying it to the clipboard: Code: document.myForm.myTextarea.focus(); document.myForm.myTextarea.select(); document.execCommand( 'Copy' ); This works great. However there is a problem when I try to paste the text somewhere else. Assuming that the text that is being copied is a URL ( ie. http://www.google.com ), I would like it to be pasted as a link. When I grab a URL from the address bar inside a web browser and paste it somewhere ( such as an e-mail ), it automatically shows up as a clickable link. When I put a URL into my form textarea and run the javascript, it gets pasted as a plain text ( ie. not underlined and not clickable ). Why are these two different? I've tried running a program to see what is actually copied into the clipboard and I don't see any differences. There must be something that denotes the URL copied from the address bar as a link and therefore makes it clickable when pasted. Is there a way to force this in order to make what is copied to the clipboard from my form textarea a clickable link? Thanks! Hi, i have several links which i am trying to add an on click command to which copies a certain code to the clip board so the user can paste the code with out having to manually copy it first. i have this Code: $latest = simplexml_load_file('codes_ending_soon.xml'); foreach ($latest->discount as $discount) { $code = $discount->id; $link = $discount->link; $store = $discount->storeName; $logo = $discount->logo; $details = $discount->details; if($code_count <=4) {?> <div class="code_cont"> <div class="code_logo"><img src="<?php echo $logo?>" alt="<?php echo $store." code"?>" title="<?php echo $store." code"?>" height="32" /></div> <a class="code" href="<?php echo $link?>" title="Click to see related product(s) / retailer and apply code" onclick="window.clipboardData.setData(<?php echo $code?>)"><?php echo $code?></a> <div class="description"><?php echo $details?></div> </div><?php $code_count++; } }?> but when i click on the link nothing seems to copy at least in firefox anyway? can anyone help me please thanks Luke Hi, I have a code which i'm trying to make work. I need it so when I select the button it copies the code to the clipboard, then go directly to the site (eg: google.com), then I need the code to be pasted in to the browser bar and hit enter. I've been working on this for hours. I know i'm doing something wrong if someone could give me a simple code with these features then I could add in the stuff. This is the javascript that copies the code: Code: <script language="JavaScript"> var clip = null; function init() { clip = new ZeroClipboard.Client(); clip.setHandCursor( true ); clip.setText("*********CODE TO COPY IS HERE**********"); clip.glue('d_clip_button'); clip.addEventListener('complete', my_complete); setInterval(checkDone, 1000); } This is what I have to send them to the site. Code: <input type="button" value="Click Here" onClick="javascript:window.open('http://google.com');" > I don't know how to have it all in one so it copies the code then opens the site and pastes into the browser and enters. Regards, Andrew Hello, I've been looking around the web for a simple JavaScript to solve this problem but can't seem to find something that would work both in IE and FF and the other major browsers? So basically I have a page listing about a dozen badges people can use to link back to me. I have presented the code for each badge (eg. a href, img src, alt...) in a separate textarea and I'd really love to add a link next to each textarea that would say something like "Click here to copy to Clipboard" then it would copy the text from within the corresponding textarea to the Clipboard so as to eliminate the need for Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C. Thank you in advance people! I have a small snippet of code which will copy the contents of a textbox to the clipboard when a small image, say a button, is clicked. I want to achieve a similar effect when I click a hotspot on an image, but in this case the text will have to come from...well, I don't know. Maybe the title in an area tag? This is what I have so far for a textbox: Code: //clipboard copy function ClipBoard(what){ Copied = document.getElementById(what).createTextRange(); Copied.execCommand("Copy"); alert ("Information copied to the clipboard. Use CTRL-V to paste."); } <textarea id="holdtext1"></textarea> <img border="0" src="copyclick.gif" onclick="ClipBoard('holdtext1');" alt=" Click to copy text to clipboard / CTRL-V to paste" style="cursor: hand" width="18" height="18"> Does anyone have any ideas? Hello. I have a textarea where user can select a text then copy to clipboard (using EditArea script for highlighting) I need append additional information to the selected text so it won't be visible in the textarea, but only appear after copied to clipboard. For example: Code: text line one text line two text line three user selected word "two", hit CTRL+C to copy into clipboard (or used browser's context menu), but in clipboard it should be saved as: "selected word 'two'" What would be the approach? Thank you. Hi, I have a page with a drop down and there are external js file that are included in the page which define handlers and other actions for onchange of this drop down. So if the selection in the drop down changes, we display a different color map (based on the selection). Now I have to pre-select an option on a specific page (which has been completed) and the drop down shows the correct selection, but the event is not fired (that changes the map color). Any idea what I need to do? Thanks Hello there, CodingForums.com! I'm a newbie to Javascript, HTML, XHTML, CSS-- and oh god, everything, so please bear with me! I have come to understand that to get any better, I'll need support. I hope you guys (and gals) can assist! Here is my issue: I'm currently trying to develop a first-draft calculator that will allow me to calculate some values for work and the way I want it requires me to do it with a pair of drop-downs. Take a look at it he http://www.projectvoid.co.uk/ I would like to select the first drop-down, on the left-hand side (Current Lighting Products -> Type of Lamp) and for the right-hand side to copy it's selected value (Energy Efficient Products -> Type of Lamp). Furthermore, it shouldn't interfere with the fact that I'm also using those values with my dependent drop-down, below (Wattage). The only piece of code I've found that might help is this: Code: function setSelect(name1, name2) { var select1 = document.forms.formname.elements[name1]; var select2 = document.forms.formname.elements[name2]; select1.selectedIndex = select2.selectedIndex; } I am also unsure how to utilize it. I look forward to your aid! Thank you in advance. Hey everyone, I have a simple html form that asks a user to select a state from a drop down list. Later, in the same form, there's a question that needs to display an image of the state they previously selected from the drop down menu. How can I accomplish this using javaScript?
Hey all, I was just wondering if you could help me out with the following, I've done a bit of google searching but haven't come up with anything. Basically, there will be 3 drop down boxes (Option a, Option b, Option c) In each drop down box there will be 3 options (One, Two, Three) Whats a script I can use that will write on page :Yellow If they select: Option a - One Option b - One Option c - Three Of the script will write blue if they selection Option a - Two Option b - One Option c - One I know how to edit the CSS, and minute parts of the JavaScript code (for example; speed of the drop). The problem is, I had a massive amount of help making the Javascript side of the menu, and do not know how to edit it... I want the rules to still apply, where only one can be expanded at a time (one of the first drops, and then only one of the sub-drops). I noticed in the code, I can edit it so there can be more than one drop, but that would mean, the whole menu could be expanded Also, I want my sub-drops. to have different span colour than the main drop. but trhe links and such, (everything else about it) can be the same.... My live demo is here! Thank you for any help and/or advice in advance, Best Regards, Tim hello, i am more a designer than a developer so i need your help. i want to create a form containing : 1. drop down list of countries (that i managed to create) 2. action on selection (redirect to a link on country selection) 3. post the selected option into a text box below and remeber (if possible) The remeber part is optional . I want a form where user will select country , based on the selection to be redirected to a link and message display , you selected : [textarea]Option[/textarea] can it be done? How can I open a selection from this drop down list in a new window? I have two drop-down prompt controls with month names. One has just one value (say "July") and the other has all the months of the year ("January".."December"). The first prompt control is hidden on the page. How do I set the default selection of the second prompt control to the value present in the first prompt control? So, when the page is run, the second prompt control should automatically show "July". I was reading up on the selectedIndex property (?), but I know that it won't work because I want Index 0 to be selected in the first control and Index 6 in the second, and I expect it to change every month (next month it will be index 7 that should be automatically selected). If it matters, I am using IE8. Thanks! Hi all. This is part of my code which I am using to edit the record from database.Initially the input boxes show the values from database and if any one of the value is changed, I want to reflect the change according to the changes made in the fields. The code works fine but if I change values in qty, rate or amount, the other values are not changing. Can experts over here tell me why? Here is my code: Code: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function tot() { var d=document.getElementById("total").value; var st=Number(d); var e=document.getElementById("vat_amt").value; var tx=Number(e); var f=document.getElementById("cash_discount").value; var ad=Number(f); var g=document.getElementById("vat").value; var vat=Number(g); var h=(st+tx)-ad; document.getElementById("amount").value = Math.ceil(h); var z=vat+100; var y=(st*100)/z; var i=st-y; var result=Math.round(i*100)/100; //returns 28.45 document.getElementById("vat_amt").value =result; } var total = 0; function getValues() { var qty = 0; var rate = 0; var obj = document.getElementsByTagName("input"); for(var i=0; i<obj.length; i++){ if(obj[i].name == "qty[]"){var qty = obj[i].value;} if(obj[i].name == "rate[]"){var rate = obj[i].value;} if(obj[i].name == "amt[]"){ if(qty > 0 && rate > 0){obj[i].value = qty*rate;total+=(obj[i].value*1);} else{obj[i].value = 0;total+=(obj[i].value*1);} } } document.getElementById("total").value = total*1; total=0; } </script> </head> <body> <table width="23%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="normal-text" border="0" style="margin-top:0px; padding-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; padding-bottom:0px;"> <tr> <td>Qty</td> <td>Rate</td> <td>Amount</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="forhead"><input type="text" name="qty[]" onkeyup="getValues()" style="width:120px;" value="<?PHP echo "$row3[qty]" ?>" class="text medium"></td> <td class="forhead"><input type="text" name="rate[]" onKeyUp="getValues()" style="width:120px;" value="<?PHP echo "$row3[rate]" ?>" class="text medium"></td> <td class="forhead"><input type="text" name="amt[]" style="width:120px;" onKeyUp="getValues()" class="text medium" value="<?PHP echo "$row3[amt]" ?>"></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="dt" colspan="2">Sub Total:</td> <td class="forhead"><input type="text" id="total" name="total" style="width:120px;" value="<?PHP echo "$row[total]" ?>" class="text medium"></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="dt" colspan="2">Vat:</td> <td class="forhead"><?PHP $query5=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM vat"); echo "<select name='vat' id='vat' style='width:120px; border: 1px solid #BFBFBF;' onChange='tot()'>"; echo "<option value='0'> Select</option>"; while($row5=mysql_fetch_array($query5)) {?> <option value= <?PHP echo $row5[vat]; ?> <?PHP echo($row5[vat]==$row[vat])?'selected':''?>> <?PHP echo $row5[vat]; ?> </option> <?PHP } echo "</select>"; ?></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="dt" colspan="2">Vat Amt :</td> <td class="forhead"><input type="text" id="vat_amt" name="vat_amt" style="width:120px;" value="<?PHP echo "$row[vat_amt]" ?>" class="text medium" onKeyUp="tot()"></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="dt" colspan="2">Cash Discount :</td> <td class="forhead"><input type="text" id="cash_discount" name="cash_discount" style="width:120px;" value="<?PHP echo "$row[cash_discount]" ?>" class="text medium" onKeyUp="tot()"></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="dt" colspan="2">Total :</td> <td class="forhead"><input type="text" name="amount" id="amount" style="width:120px;" class="text medium" onKeyUp="tot()" value="<?PHP echo "$row[amount]" ?>"></td> </tr> </table> </body> </html> Hi there, I need help in form validation! Hi all, I have been struggling on a bit of code for a while now. I need to populate a second drop down list (Region) based upon the selection of the first (County). I have found a piece of code that works on its own and have adapted to suit my needs - see below. However, when I drop it into my main page the javascript is not working. It's because of the formObject but I just don't know enough to resolve this! Furthermore, I need the textboxes the user has already completed in the form to retain their value once the javascript kicks in as the completed form will submit to a database. This piece of code is working well . . . . Code: <?php $link = mysql_connect('myhost', 'myusername', 'mypassword') or die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); mysql_select_db('mydatabase') or die('Could not select database'); if(isset($_GET["County"]) && is_numeric($_GET["County"])) { $County = $_GET["County"]; } if(isset($_GET["Region"]) && is_numeric($_GET["Region"])) { $Region = $_GET["Region"]; } ?> <script language="JavaScript"> function autoSubmit() { var formObject = document.forms['theForm']; formObject.submit(); } </script> <form name="theForm" method="get"> <!-- County SELECTION BASED ON city VALUE --> <?php ?> <select name="County" onChange="autoSubmit();"> <option value=''</option> <?php //POPULATE DROP DOWN MENU WITH COUNTRIES FROM A GIVEN city $sql = "SELECT * FROM county_regions"; $counties = mysql_query($sql,$link); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($counties)) { echo ("<option value=\"$row[CountyID]\" " .
