JavaScript - Javascript Out Of Hand
Hi, I've been working at a website for quite some time now, one for my portfolio that displays my graphics design talents. However when coding this website I've run into quite a few problems. The most concerning being the photo gallery I am trying to set up inside of my website. I believe the problem I have is that I have two conflicting scripts, (in which case, how do I 'unconflict' them?) I have a sliding image header and I am using lightbox to create my gallery. While the slider works, my images only work as normal links rather than popping up on the screen.
If you have any idea on how to fix this, please let me know. I am also open to other possibilities for a photo gallery. Similar TutorialsUsing onclick=window.open function in js to open a pdf file link in a new popup window. Works fine to display the file onscreen, but not if the user wants to save the file client-side to their computer. The right-hand-button context menu for the mouse will allow the user to download, but the file saved will be a html dump file for the webpage and the name of the file will be that for the webpage. Of course I can use the easy <a href> method for download links and the mouse context menu options will be as expected, but I can only use target="-blank" or target="_self" . I need a popup window to open. Could use : oncontextmenu="alert('Left click the link to open, and then SAVE from with the pdf viewer') to advise users how to save the file, and could use "javascript: void(0)" to eliminate most mouse context menu options, so the user won't bother try. So how can I get a link to a file which can be viewed in a popup window and downloaded using mouse right-hand context menu? Any advice massively appreciated! Hello, I am trying to create an input box with a submit button as following: - when any random text is entered in the box, upon submit, a new page should open, based on the text entered: for example: if 'test' is entered ... the new page that opens should be 'test.html' if 'monday' is entered ... the new page that opens should be 'monday.html' Thanks in advance THIS IS NOT HOMEWORK Hi all, I'm trying to extract a URL from a string that may or may not have extra characters before and/or after the URL. I'm having a heck of a time making the regex work... when it works for one case it fails for another and I'm just not seeing why. OK, here is the code: Code: var str = 'leading junk http://h71036.www7.hp.com/hho/images/Outdoor_scene.jpg trailing junk'; var txt = str.replace(/^\s?((https?|ssh|ftp|mailto|file|www):\/\/.*?)\s?$/gi,'href:\n1 is $1\n2 is $2\n3 is $3'); alert(txt); (eventually the replacement string will be <a href="$1">$1</a> of course) What I want is of course to extract "http://h71036.www7.hp.com/hho/images/Outdoor_scene.jpg" out of the string whether of not there is leading and/or trailing "junk" around the string. Any ideas? I'm stumped... Thanks! -- Roger I've got the following html code for a button - how can I get the cursor to turn into the hand shape when the mouse is over the button? Thanks PHP Code: <INPUT NAME="btn_cancel" TYPE="button" VALUE="Cancel" onClick="cancel_button_click()";> Hello, I'm not sure what to call it. The only way to describe it is a 'window frame'. I need to increase the size. I've been waiting for days to get any kind of response from the theme developers, ElegantThemes.com. If you look at http://www.woodstock2012.com and you click something from the menu a window opens that is very small that has big borders and heavy padding around it. I need to increase the size of this and adjust some margins and padding. Can anyone give me a hand? I sure would appreciate it. This is the code in my custom.js file...the file the admin told me to adjust. Which I did and it didn't work. This is the original code: He said simply, adjust this code... Code: $et_main_content.css( { top : '77px', width : '800px', height : ( et_window_height - 200 ), marginTop : 0, marginLeft : '-400px' } ).removeClass(); I found this code twice in the file: Code: $et_main_content.css( { top : '77px', width : '900px', height : ( et_window_height - 200 ), marginTop : 0, marginLeft : '-400px' }, and I also found this once: Code: $et_main_content.animate( { top : '77px', width : '800px', height : ( et_window_height - 200 ), marginTop : 0, marginLeft : '-400px' }, I change them to: Code: $et_main_content.css( { top : '27px', width : '900px', height : ( et_window_height - 200 ), marginTop : 0, marginLeft : '-450px' }, and Code: $et_main_content.animate( { top : '27px', width : '900px', height : ( et_window_height - 200 ), marginTop : 0, marginLeft : '-450px' }, The results for this change are as such...if I click to a page from the main 'drop in' menu the page loads wide but the minute I use an arrow to change pages or click a page from the menu at the bottom of the page the size reverts back to the 800px. It doesn't lose the margin change from -400px to -450px but it does lose the width. I also need to know how to make it taller and reach closer to the bottom menu and the content slider needs to be adjusted also. I've attached the full js file. If anyone can help me out here I sure would appreciate it. Thank you in advance. Doug The suspect line is the following $('.leaveClan').attr('id') = <?php echo $id; ?>; the span with the class (there is only one) leaveClan is on the main page, and that line of javascript is on a page being called by AJAX within that page. Can anyone see why that is causing an error? Let me know if you need to see any more of the code Hi, I have written a function to compare each character in startString with another nominated character (nomChar). If they are the same this character is written to outputString, in the same position. If they are not the same a character is lifted from the same position in altString and placed in the same position in outputString instead. I hope that's clear! Code as follows: Code: function compareChar(startString, altString, nomChar) { var outputString = ''; outputString.length = startString.length; var nextLetter = ''; for (var count = 0; count < startString.length; count = count + 1) { nextLetter = startString.charAt(count); if (nextLetter == nomChar) { outputString.charAt(count) = nextLetter; } else { outputString.charAt(count) = altString.charAt(count); } } } document.write(compareChar('boston', 'denver' , 'o' ) ); However, the line of code within the if statement Code: outputString.charAt(count) = nextLetter; keeps generating an 'Invalid assigment left hand side' error message. Can anyone see why this is the case? Thanks. Hello! I am trying to find a script that allows you to open multiple browser tabs and then close each of those tabs, either one by one or all at once. Does anyone know how to do this please? Thanks so much for your help. I want to have another go at Javascript. I have several books on the subject but I find that my eyesight is a major problem. Therefore I want to try an on-line solution, preferably free. I have Googled, but there are so many that I am almost dizzy with the choices. Perhaps someone could recommend one. Not too fussy visually. My knowledge is VERY basic. Frank Does anyone know how to make URL links that use Javascript still work when users have Javascript disabled on their browser? The only reason I'm using JS on a URL is because my link opens a PDF file, and I'm forcing it not to cache so users have the latest version. I tried the <script><noscript> tags, but I'm not sure if I'm using it correctly, as my URL completely disappears. Below is my HTML/Javascript code: <p class="download"> <script type="text/javascript">document.write("<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0);\" onclick=\"window.open( 'http://www.webchild.com.au/mediakit/Direct_Media_Kit_Web.pdf?nocache='+ Math.floor( Math.random()*11 ) );\" >The Child Magazines Media Kit</a></span> (PDF 1 MB) ");</script> <noscript><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a href="http://www.webchild.com.au/mediakit/Direct_Media_Kit_Web.pdf" >The Child Magazines Media Kit</a></span> (PDF 1 MB)</noscript> </p> Thanks for any help, Michael Hi Guys, I am new at JavaScript and start to do some tutorials. What I am trying to do here is prompting user to input a name and if the name was valid the page(document) will display with all objects like the button. But if user enter a wrong name then the button will be disabled! I can access it & change embed something in its html via using something like: Code: $(parent.chtifrm.document.body).append('<div id=\"smly\" style=\"cursor:pointer;float:left;top:200px;display:none;position:absolute;\"><\/div>'); .... Code: parent.chtifrm.document.getElementById('chatbox_option_disco').style.display == 'none' but how do I insert js in the head of loaded iframe? I got an index.php Code: <html> <form action="bacakomik.php" method='post'> <select name="kodekomik"> <option value='../komik1/|23'>Judul Komik1</option> <option value="../komik2/|20">Judul Komik2</option> <option value="../komik3/|10">Juduk Komik3</option> <option value="../komik4/|20">Judul Komik4</option> </select> <input type="submit" /> </form> <?php echo ('<select>'); echo ('<option value= "'.$i.'">'.'Page '.$i.'</option>'); echo ('</select>'); ?> </html> As you can see, each of the option brings specific value "../komik1/|23" komik1 is a directory | is a delimiter 23 is the pages in one chapter and can be considered also as how many images are there on a specific directory This is my bacakomik.php Code: <?php $dirkomik = $_POST['kodekomik']; $exploded = explode("|", $dirkomik); echo ($exploded[0]); //picture directory echo ("<br>"); echo ($exploded[1]); //total page in the comic $pagecount = (int)$exploded[1]; //Take last posted value, process it right away echo ('<FORM name="guideform"> '); echo ('<select name="guidelinks">'); $i=1; do { echo ('<option value= "'.$i.'">'.'Page '.$i.'</option>'); $i= $i+1; }while($i <= $pagecount); //Printing option and select echo ("</select>"); ?> <input type="button" name="go" value="Go!" onClick="document.getElementById('im').src=document.guideform.guidelinks.options[document.guideform.guidelinks.selectedIndex].value+'.png';"> </FORM> <img src="img0.jpg" id="im"> With the current code on bacakomik.php, I only can change the img src of id "im" in the same directory only. What I want is that the Javascript could "add" the "$exploded[0]" variable so that the picture can be loaded from different directory. Anyone can do this? I believe that the fix should be somewhere on input tag inside OnClick, or do you know where? Anyway, I found this on the net http://p2p.wrox.com/php-faqs/11606-q...avascript.html Please help me to those who can... All -- I have a JavaScript config file called gameSetting.js which contains a bunch of variables which configures a particular game. I also have a shared JavaScript library which uses the variables in gameSetting.js, which I include like so: <script type="text/javascript" src="gameSetting.js" ></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="gameLibrary.js" ></script> In gameSetting.js I have: $(document).ready(function() { // call some functions / classes in gameLibrary.js } in Firefox, Safari, and Chrome, this works fine. However, in IE, when it's parsing gameSetting.js, it complains that the functions that live in gameLibrary.js aren't defined. When it gets to parsing gameLibrary.js, the variables in gameSetting.js are reported as not being defined. I've tried dynamically bootstrapping the gameLibrary file using this function in document.ready for dynamic load... $.getScript("gameLibrary.js"); However, the same problem still happens in IE, where when it parses the files individually it's not taking into context the file/variables that came before, so it's not an out of load order problem. My options a 1) collapsing all the functions in gameLibrary.js and variables in gameSetting.js into one file. However, this is not practical because this is dealing with literally hundreds of games, and having a gameLibrary.js in ONE location for ONE update is what makes most logical sense. 2) figure out a way to get this to work where variables in file1 are accessible to file2 in IE (as it seems they are in other browsers). jQuery seems to be able to have multiple plugins that all refer to the based jQuery-1.3.2.js, so I know there is a way to get this to work. Help appreciated. Nero I wrote a log function that took note of various function calls. Thinking that functions are first class objects, and objects have properties, I made the name of each logged function a property of that function, e.g., brightenInnerPara.name = "brightenInnerPara"; Every browser I tried (Firefox, MSIE, Opera, Chrome, Safari) accepted the assignment, no problem. In Firefox and MSIE, the result was what I wanted: brightenInnerPara.name == "brightenInnerPara" But in the others, the result was: brightenInnerPara.name == null Question 1. Which Javascript is correct here? I favor Firefox and MSIE, not merely because they were willing to give me what I wanted, but also because it makes no sense to accept an assignment statement without throwing an error and then give it a null semantics, like Chrome, Opera, and Safari did. I found a workaround, using assignments like this: brightenInnerPara.prototype.name = "brightenInnerPara"; To my surprise, that worked in every browser. But I don't know why. It seems that such assignments are enough to cause each function to have its own distinct prototype. Question 2. Just how inefficient is my workaround, and why does it work? Hi All, I recently went to interview for Web Developer and got the following questions from my interviewer. I have no idea about how to solve this. Consider a scenario like below: <div id = test></div> <table></table> Given a 5 * 5 table consisting integer data. I need to write a function in JavaScript that reads table in the spiral way (see arrow in the table below to know the spiral ) [0][0]-----------------> [0][5] [1][0]<----------------- [1][5] [2][0]-----------------> [2][5] [3][0]<----------------- [3][5] [4][0]------------------>[4][5] Compute the following in the function 1. Read table in spiral way 2. Sum up the values of row 1 and then calculate the average and put that value in row[2] column 1. 3. For the last row average value put in the div tag defined above in the question Note: Not Allowed to use document.getElementById. Need to use core JavaScript functions. PHP Code: var values = { value1: 6, other: { value2: values.value1 + 1 } } Why can that not work? Is there something like this.parent.value1? |
