JavaScript - Requesting Help For Beginner Jscript
hi folks extreme newbie here when it comes to javascript.
I have an assignment that in which ive created the html+css for the webpage (a pizza form validation basically). and Now I must do the javascript aspect of it. Unfortunately I have no idea how to even begin i dont understand how to use any of these .toUpperCase() .toLowerCase(), how to use window.open for errors instead of alert and all these other things. the way i'm coding it, is with an external file called script.js that will have all my coding and then i have my index.html file...i dont know how to 'call' (if thats the right term) the function to the index.html...or even make jscript code either lol. as an example of a requirement: Code: field01 - Client Surname- Maximum allowable length is 15 positions Must be present. Minimum of four (4) alphabetic characters lower case (a-z) or upper case (A-Z) or a mix of lower & upper case. Optional special characters Optional one (1) apostrophe if present - must have at least 1 alphabetic character before it and one alphabetic character after it. Optional one (1) hyphen if present - must have at least 1 alphabetic character before it and one alphabetic character after it. this is my assignment requirements for those need a better understanding of what's going on https://cs.senecac.on.ca/~int222/***...assignment3-2/ my request is if there is anyone who can lead me in the direction to a website or downloadable book on how to do what it's asking (in no way am i asking someone to do my assignment for me). My professor has his website that has all these predefined things (im assuming are functions) that should be used but i dont understand it nor do i understand him. Any help would be immensely appreciated, thank you. Similar TutorialsHello all, I'm trying to use AJAX for password validation. I've used AJAX before successfully to read and write data back and forth from Javascript and php, but not at the same time. I seem to be coming to the conclusion that the XMLHTTPRequest object is not letting me send data to my php file with the open method and receive data from it with the responseText attribute at the same time. Am I correct? What can I do to get around this? Here's the Javascript function: Code: function pwTest() { var pwInput = document.getElementById("removalPassword").value; var ajaxRequest; try { // Opera 8.0+, Firefox, Safari ajaxRequest = new XMLHttpRequest(); } catch (e) { // Internet Explorer Browsers try { ajaxRequest = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch (e) { try { ajaxRequest = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch (e) { // Something went wrong alert("Your browser broke!"); return false; } } } // Create a function that will receive data sent from the server ajaxRequest.onreadystatechange = function() { if(ajaxRequest.readyState == 4) { pwGood = ajaxRequest.responseText; } ajaxRequest.open("GET", "pwtest.php?pw=" + pwInput, true); ajaxRequest.send(null); } } And here's the php code: Code: <?php $string = "blam!"; $input = $_GET["pw"]; if ($string == $input) { echo "1"; } else { echo "0"; } ?> Thank you. Also, I realize that this isn't very secure, but it's only going to be on a local server and I'll encrypt the password once I have it working. Anyway, the site has a page where people can choose from menuitems of a form ("select" elements). That form info is then used to call Foxycart. I've decided to link the choosing of those menu-items to showing appropriate product images, thus providing visual feedback for the buyer. I have hacked my way to a point that the page does what I want in Firefox, but it breaks in IE and I have no idea why since the same sort of simple code algorithm to poll the menus with "document.getElementByIdworks" works in IE until I leave the page, but then stops working when I return. The page is he http://angelatoyarn.squarespace.com/...our-own-gelato (the site is still a WIP obviously) In Firefox everything is fine - I can select the items I want and the pictures of those images appear at the bottom of the page. If I leave the page and come back, the function Updateyarn() is called which grabs the .selectedindex values and re-inserts the images. But in IE when I leave the page and come back the select-menus retain their previous values (as they should) but my update yarn () function errors out and doesn't return a valid integer. Please Help! I have no Earthly clue why the IE version is breaking. -thanks, - TJ For some reason, can't get my script to load with he page. not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm so confused. http://www.rutholsonphoto.com/build-002/index.html Hi peeps, I'm trying to replicate this navigation effect I found when looking through a website design gallery: http://www.nissanusa.com/leaf-electr...ing-experience To be honest, I'm not sure where to start - I've tried searching for this but can't seem to find any plugins like it. Would appreciate any help I can get on this! Thanks in advance! I have been trying for several days now to append a text caption to a displayed image using Javascript, but with no real success. Perhaps JS is not the best way. Has anyone a suggestion as to the best way to tackle this. I want to replace the image captions with text ones to help speed up the site. It is my home site here. A modification of the existing code seems obvious, but I have been unable to do this. Any help gratefully received. In these examples I create the TEXTAREA tag but it does not matter. This don't work for ALL block or inline tags. Nevertheless an assignment of the 'innerHTML' property in browsers works fine (see the second example). Code: var tag = document.createElement('textarea'); tag.innerHTML = 'any non-empty string'; I have a question. Is this known bug or feature of the 'htmlfile' object? Or maybe someone of you has encountered this? I get "Microsoft JScript runtime error: '$' is undefined" with the javascript below. So when you are a computer the music autoplays then stops and you have the option to listen to it again with the js button. This "theoretically" will work fine for the iPhone and iPad because even though the embedded music isn't auto playing the user can still click the listen button and hear the music. It works on the iPhone perfectly but not the iPad. I'm at a loss. Please help I am very new to JavaScript and I am currently following the Eloquent JavaScript book online. On one of the exercises, we are told to make a function that returns the range of the inputs in an array. I tried this code below but it doesn't seem to work. The problem seems to be in the "If" function because if I change the condition to (start < end) it seems to work. Can someone please explain to me why this is? function range (start, end) { var j = []; if (start > end) { for (i = start; i <= end; i++) { j.push(i); } } else { for (i = start; i >= end; i--) { j.push(i); } } return j; } console.log(range(10, 2)); console.log(range(2, 10)); Reply With Quote 01-26-2015, 08:49 PM #2 Labrar View Profile View Forum Posts New Coder Join Date Jun 2008 Posts 65 Thanks 0 Thanked 12 Times in 12 Posts Why you do not use something like this var range = function(start, end, step) { var range = []; var typeofStart = typeof start; var typeofEnd = typeof end; if (step === 0) { throw TypeError("Step cannot be zero."); } if (typeofStart == "undefined" || typeofEnd == "undefined") { throw TypeError("Must pass start and end arguments."); } else if (typeofStart != typeofEnd) { throw TypeError("Start and end arguments must be of same type."); } typeof step == "undefined" && (step = 1); if (end < start) { step = -step; } if (typeofStart == "number") { while (step > 0 ? end >= start : end <= start) { range.push(start); start += step; } } else if (typeofStart == "string") { if (start.length != 1 || end.length != 1) { throw TypeError("Only strings with one character are supported."); } start = start.charCodeAt(0); end = end.charCodeAt(0); while (step > 0 ? end >= start : end <= start) { range.push(String.fromCharCode(start)); start += step; } } else { throw TypeError("Only string and number types are supported"); } return range; } Thats pretty similar to php range Reply With Quote 01-26-2015, 09:25 PM #3 Old Pedant View Profile View Forum Posts Supreme Master coder! Instead look CAREFULLY at this code: Code: if (start > end) { for (i = start; i <= end; i++) { Let's use your first example, where you call range(10, 2) So start is 10. And end is 2. So you get to if ( start > end ) and JavaScript executes that as if ( 10 > 2 ) Indeed, 10 *IS* greater than 2, yes? SO you the go execute the NEXT line: for (i = start; i <= end; i++) Which, of course, JavaScript then executes as for (i = 10; i <= 2; i++) But then 10 is *IMMEDIATELY* <= 2. So the for loop NEVER RUNS. All you need to do to fix your code is change Code: if (start > end) { into Code: if (start < end) { PRESTO! ********** The tiniest bit of debugging using your JavaScript debugger would have found this. But also just learning to THINK like the computer would help. Actually run the code in your head, using your example numbers, and you'd see where you went wrong. |
