JavaScript - Get Border And Padding Width Of Cell
Hello all,
I need to get the border and internal padding width of a cell of a table. I plan to subtract these values from the offsetWidth to get the content width, and use that to set the style.width of another cell. Unfortunately, I can't find a tried-and-true way to get the border and padding width. Anyone got an idea? Similar TutorialsI am currently using this: Script Title: Modular Scroller (Scrollable content script III) - Demo The two links providing information can be found he http://www.dynamicdrive.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=11899 / http://home.comcast.net/~jscheuer1/s...side_table.htm I figured out how the script works. The only problems I'm having are I would like to get rid of the border that is around the container and the up and down images. Also, I would like it so that as the browser window gets bigger or smaller, the width and height of the content div expands with the browser. Here is what I have right now: http://gds.parkland.edu/student/fall...inal/menu.html <script language="JavaScript"> function changeColor(cell_id){var state1="#dde6ed"; var state2="#ffc20e"; var cellid = new Array ("id1", "id2", "id3", "id4", "id5", "id6"); for(var i = 0; i < cellid.length; i++){var nav = document.getElementById(cellid[i]); if(cellid == nav.id){nav.style.backgroundColor=state2;} else {nav.style.backgroundColor=state1;}}} </script> Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this script. I put an onClick= changeColor(this);" in my <td> tag to call the script but still not working. Hello, let me try to explain better what I'm trying to do. I'm a real newbie I don't know much javascript but I understand more or less the logic behind it... tell me if this solution should work and if you know how to do it please show me. I have this page. http://felixdeportu.com/5/ The images are inside a div#content div#photo. I need to make div#photo's width to match the total width measurement of all the images it contains. If you load the page and you don't touch the size, it will work fine... but that's not realistic. If I resize the page, which will happen often on this kind of page (I'm assuming), the whole thing goes haywire (try it, scroll to the last image and resize the page you'll see what I mean). What can I do? Is my idea the right solution? Am I not explaining this clearly enough? Let me know please, I'm desperate. I've been trying to get CSS to do this for me for 3 hours now. Nothing works... I want to set the width of a div to be the same width of the image inside the div. The following code works great. But... The images are different widths, so both wrappers are set to the width of the first image. Without having to add an ID to each wrapper or image, can the wrapper width be set to the image width using the name of the image as the unique identifier? Any help would be great! PHP Code: jQuery: $(document).ready(function(){ var newWidth = $('div.wrapper img').attr('width'); $('div.wrapper').width(newWidth); }); HTML: <div class="wrapper"> <p><img src="image1.jpg" width="200" /><br /> Caption</p> </div> <div class="wrapper"> <p><img src="image2.jpg" width="250" /><br /> Caption</p> </div> Need to set the width of a Table that is being spit out by this god awful CMS... please help me... change the html attribute width! Site: www.ameego.co.uk I am having problems with the padding on my drop-down java menu. I want the width to automatically vary on the different categories such as 'Batteries' and 'Replacement Parts' for example. At the moment, I have a set width, and thats fine for some categories, but others, such as 'Batteries' there is not enough information to fill it and it looks like a ugly blank space. I was wondering how I can change the HTML/CSS so that it will vary in size for each individual category. Here is my current CSS coding: Code: /* ######### Shared basic style for mega drop down menu DIV ######### */ .mega{ width: 450px; padding: 10px; position:absolute; visibility:hidden; border:2px solid black; border-top-width:1px; background:GREY; -webkit-box-shadow: 5px 5px 5px #c8c8c8; /*css 3 shadows*/ -moz-box-shadow: 5px 5px 5px #c8c8c8; box-shadow: 5px 5px 5px #c8c8c8; } .mega .column{ /*each link column within a mega menu*/ float:left; width:49%; } .mega a{ text-decoration:none; } .mega a[rel]:after{ /*add "down.png" to anchor links, or those with a rel attribute */ content:" " url(down.png); } .mega .column ul{ margin:0; margin-left:5px; padding:0; list-style:none; } .mega .column ul li{ margin-bottom:3px; } .mega .ulmenu{ /*style any UL within mega menu with class="ulmenu"*/ margin:0; padding:0; border:1px solid gray; border-bottom-width:0; list-style:none; } .mega .ulmenu a{ display:block; border-bottom:1px solid gray; padding:5px; } .mega .ulmenu a:hover{ background:lightyellow; } } li#scroll-tablets a.scroll1:hover, li#scroll-tablets a.scroll2:hover { -moz-border-radius:5px; -webkit-border-radius:5px; border-radius:5px; -moz-box-shadow:0 0 10px #ef5f27; -webkit-box-shadow:0 0 10px #ef5f27; box-shadow:0 0 10px #ef5f27; border: 1px dotted #ef5f27; } /* ######### Style for Solid Block Mega Menu ######### */ .solidblocktheme{ /*additional mega drop down menu style for this theme*/ border:2px solid #000000; padding:0; /*remove default padding inside mega menu*/ } .solidblocktheme p, .solidblocktheme .column{ padding:5px; /*add padding inside p and .column elements within mega menu*/ width:auto; } .solidblockmenu{ margin: 0; padding: 0; float: left; font: bold 13px Tahoma; width: 100%; overflow: hidden; margin-bottom: 1em; border: 1px solid #625e00; border-width: 1px 0; background: black url(blockdefault.gif) center center repeat-x; } .solidblockmenu li{ display: inline; } .solidblockmenu li a{ float: left; color: white; padding: 9px 11px; text-decoration: none; border-right: 1px solid white; } .solidblockmenu li a:visited{ color: white; } .solidblockmenu li a:hover, .solidblockmenu li a.selected{ /*Selected Tab style*/ color: white; background: transparent url(blockactive.gif) center center repeat-x; } Thanks in advance Hi guys can help me are very little versed in javascript ... As is T=setTimeout('lotto()',20); I would suggest you get hold of a more up-to-date code. Simply rename your images 1.jpg, 2.jpg and so on, and display the appropriate one in its correct position. I'll give you a far better lottery number generator:- Code: <!DOCTYPE html> <head> </head> <body> <script type = "text/javascript"> function mylotto() { var rlts = document.getElementById("results"); rlts.value = ''; // clear results var srtrlts = document.getElementById("sortedresults"); srtrlts.value = ''; // clear results var hmany = document.getElementById("howmany").value; var max = parseInt(document.getElementById("maxnum").value); if (isNaN(max) || max <= hmany) { alert ("You must choose a number greater than " + hmany + " for the maximum number value!"); document.getElementById("maxnum").value = 49; return false; } var numArray = new Array(max); var chosen = new Array(hmany); var uniqueList = new Array(hmany); for (var i = 1; i <= max; i++) { // set up array 1 to max numArray[i-1] = i; } Array.prototype.shuffle = function() { var s = []; while (this.length) s.push(this.splice(Math.random() * this.length, 1)); while (s.length) this.push(s.pop()); return this; } numArray.shuffle(); // shuffle the array for (var i = 0; i < hmany; i++) { // take the first howmany items uniqueList[i] = numArray[i]; } rlts.value = uniqueList.join(" "); srtrlts.value = uniqueList.sort(sortNumber).join(" "); function sortNumber(a,b) { return a - b; } //alert ("The unsorted random numbers a - \n" + uniqueList) //alert ("The sorted unique random numbers a - \n" + uniqueList.sort(sortNumber)); } </script> <p>UNIQUE NUMBERS LOTTERY PICKER</p><br> <form> Select How Many Unique Numbers <select id="howmany"> <option value=1>1</option> <option value=2>2</option> <option value=3>3</option> <option value=4>4</option> <option value=5>5</option> <option value=6 selected>6</option> <option value=7>7</option> <option value=8>8</option> <option value=9>9</option> <option value=10>10</option> </select> <br> Enter the Maximum Number Value  <input type="text" id = "maxnum" value="49" size="2"><br><br> <input type="button" value="Here we go!" onclick="mylotto()"> <br><br> Unsorted Results:- <input type = "text" id = "results" size = "60"><br> Sorted Results:-     <input type = "text" id = "sortedresults" size = "60"> </form> </body> </html> Quizmaster: In which river did John the Baptist baptise Jesus?
