JavaScript - Chrome Not Loading Javascript Called From A Frame Page
Here is the structure I am working with as this html/script was created by the chmProcessor to produce WebHelp files...
index.htm contains: Code: <iframe id="mainFrame" name="mainFrame" class="full" src= "frameset.html"> frameset.html contains: Code: <frameset cols="20%,80%"> <frame id="treeFrame" src="tree.html" name="treeFrame" /> <frame id="frameCont" src="2_Welcome.htm" name="Welcome" /> </frameset> tree.html is the navigational panel and contains: Code: <script type="text/javascript" src="tree.js"> </script> I have placed alert() calls in tree.js. When I load index.htm in Chrome, apparently tree.js is not being loaded because I do not see any alert box and the functionality within tree.js does not work. Note: The functionality does work in IE and Firefox If I open tree.html directly in Chrome, the tree.js functionality does get called. I do not know how to solve this problem or why Chrome is not loading the pages and script correctly. Thanks for your help! Similar TutorialsI have a website which includes stories with multiple chapters. These chapters have a set of clickable arrows at top and bottom to take you forwards and back through the chapters, including a "last chapter" arrow. When a story is in progress, the URL of the last chapter changes with each chapter added. Rather than having to go back into every previous chapter and change the URL of the last chapter by hand, I set them up so that the "last chapter" arrow is actually in an inline frame. That way, I only have to change the URL once, in the file go_end.htm which is the source for the frame. So both the picture of the arrow and its hyperlink are being accessed from outside. My web pages are also set up to run on all major browsers and to detect the window width and resize all the artwork to fit, regardless of the browser and whether or not it accepts percentage sizes. Go_end.htm is no exception - it contains Javascript code which resizes the arrow so it is the same size as the ones which are actually in the parent page, outside the frame. This setup works perfectly in IE and Netscape, but Google Chrome either fails to display the arrow or makes it huge so it doesn't fit the frame. This seems to be because their superfast new Javascript editor is *too* fast. If I bung an alert command into go_end.htm, asking it to say the value of picWidth (the variable which sets the width of the arrow) as it loadfs, what happens is this. Google Chrome displays an alert saying that picWidth is zero, then loads the first instance of the inline frame with no got-to-end arrow. Then it displays an alert giving a proper value for picWidth and loads the second inline frame with the arrow correctly displayed and sized. If I take out the alerts, it doesn't load the arrow in *either* frame. It's obvious that inserting the alert command somehow forces it to recognise the value of the variable which it then retains for long enough to load the arrow on the second pass. Any ideas for some command other than alert which would trick it into not loading the image until it's recognised the variable? If I put a time delay on loading the frame I can't see that that would help - the problem is that from the point at which it starts actually loading the frame it needs to wait for the variable to be set. I know this was here previously but no solution was found and I wonder if someone could help. JavaScript loads before even DOM is fully loaded but only in Chrome browser. I know I could use setTimeout function but it's now ideal in my case. I am working on a program based on Chromium and have a html page inside it. Page has 4 images that resize (useing javascript) depending on window size Here is load finction Code: window.onload = function(){ window.document.body.onload = initDocument; }; function initDocument() { stretchFit("divMy", "bg"); stretchFit("divG", "bgG"); stretchFit("divTech", "bgTech"); stretchFit("divKB", "bgKB"); } Any ideas how to load function after DOM is loaded? I have an older website consisting of frames (html). Now I want to password protect one page. So far I added the following Javascript which I found on youtube: <SCRIPT> function passWord() { var testV = 1; var pass1 = prompt('Please Enter Your Password',' '); while (testV < 3) { if (!pass1) history.go(-1); if (pass1.toLowerCase() == "letmein") { alert('You Got it Right!'); window.open('protectpage.html'); break; } testV+=1; var pass1 = prompt('Access Denied - Password Incorrect, Please Try Again.','Password'); } if (pass1.toLowerCase()!="password" & testV ==3) history.go(-1); return " "; } </SCRIPT> <CENTER> <FORM> <input type="button" value="Enter Protected Area" onClick="passWord()"> </FORM> </CENTER> This works but the protected page opens in a new window not in the main frame. What do I have to add and where? Will search engines pick up this page and display it on the public? Thank you. CT Hi. I have a question about java script code. I'm creating a website with frames. Within the main page frame, there are tables in the main content page. When I created the website, it fit perfectly in the browser window of my smaller laptop. I just checked it out on my old G5 and the images/pages are too big and either cut off or scroll bars appear (which is not what I want) So I wanted to know what code I put in my files and where to put it? Also, what pages does it need to be in? the main frame index page? the specific pages that fit within the frames? some are images that load in the frames? would i need to create an .html for those and then have the .jpg load so that it can be resized? I need the main page to be resized to fit the browser as well as the pages in the frames to fit. Can you help? Thanks Hello all, I have the following code to load a new html page into the 'new content' div once the user scrolls to the bottom of the page. It all works fine. No problems, except I would like it to pause for a moment whilst it is loading, and show a loading box div at the bottom of the screen as it loads the new content, just to give some positive feedback for the user. So the new div would sit in a fixed position at 'bottom:0px;' and have a loading image inside it. Is this easy to do? I am new to javascript so bear with me Code: alreadyloading = false; nextpage = 2; $(window).scroll(function() { if($(window).scrollTop() + $(window).height() == $(document).height()) { if (alreadyloading == false) { var url = "page"+nextpage+".html"; alreadyloading = true; $.post(url, function(data) { $('#newcontent').children().last().after(data); alreadyloading = false; nextpage++; }); } } }); The 'new content' is a div which is at the bottom of the page and is where the new content loads to! Thank you very much Hi guys, calling a php page through AJAX. and it works Aok. Thanks for your time Firebug is giving me no error messages, but alert() message is never triggered. I want the alert() message defined below to alert what the value of the variable result is (e.g. {filter: Germany}). And it doesn't. I think the javascript breaks down right when a new Form instance is instantiated because I tried putting an alert in the Form variable and it was never triggered. Note that everything that pertains to this issue occurs when form.calculation() is called: markup: Code: <fieldset> <select name="filter" alter-data="dropFilter"> <option>Germany</option> <option>Ukraine</option> <option>Estonia</option> </select> <input type="text" alter-data="searchFilter" /> </fieldset> javascript (below the body tag) Code: <script> (function($){ var listview = $('#listview'); var lists = (function(){ var criteria = { dropFilter: { insert: function(value){ if(value) return handleFilter("filter", value); }, msg: "Filtering..." }, searchFilter: { insert: function(value){ if(value) return handleFilter("search", value); }, msg: "Searching..." } } var handleFilter = function(key, value){ return {key: value}; } return { create: function(component){ var component = component.href.substring(component.href.lastIndexOf('#') + 1); return component; }, setDefaults: function(component){ var parameter = {}; switch(component){ case "sites": parameter = { 'order': 'site_num', 'per_page': '20', 'url': 'sites' } } return parameter; }, getCriteria: function(criterion){ return criteria[criterion]; }, addCriteria: function(criterion, method){ criteria[criterion] = method; } } })(); var Form = function(form){ var fields = []; $(form[0].elements).each(function(){ var field = $(this); if(typeof field.attr('alter-data') !== 'undefined') fields.push(new Field(field)); }) } Form.prototype = { initiate: function(){ for(field in this.fields){ this.fields[field].calculate(); } }, isCalculable: function(){ for(field in this.fields){ if(!this.fields[field].alterData){ return false; } } return true; } } var Field = function(field){ this.field = field; this.alterData = false; this.attach("change"); this.attach("keyup"); } Field.prototype = { attach: function(event){ var obj = this; if(event == "change"){ obj.field.bind("change", function(){ return obj.calculate(); }) } if(event == "keyup"){ obj.field.bind("keyup", function(e){ return obj.calculate(); }) } }, calculate: function(){ var obj = this, field = obj.field, msgClass = "msgClass", msgList = $(document.createElement("ul")).addClass("msgClass"), types = field.attr("alter-data").split(" "), container = field.parent(), messages = []; field.next(".msgClass").remove(); for(var type in types){ var criterion = lists.getCriteria(types[type]); if(field.val()){ var result = criterion.insert(field.val()); container.addClass("waitingMsg"); messages.push(criterion.msg); obj.alterData = true; alert(result); initializeTable(result); } else { return false; obj.alterData = false; } } if(messages.length){ for(msg in messages){ msgList.append("<li>" + messages[msg] + "</li"); } } else{ msgList.remove(); } } } $('#dashboard a').click(function(){ var currentComponent = lists.create(this); var custom = lists.setDefaults(currentComponent); initializeTable(custom); }); var initializeTable = function(custom){ var defaults = {}; var custom = custom || {}; var query_string = $.extend(defaults, custom); var params = []; $.each(query_string, function(key, value){ params += key + ': ' + value; }) var url = custom['url']; $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: '/' + url, data: params, dataType: 'html', error: function(){}, beforeSend: function(){}, complete: function() {}, success: function(response) { listview.html(response); } }) } $.extend($.fn, { calculation: function(){ var formReady = new Form($(this)); if(formReady.isCalculable) { formReady.initiate(); } } }) var form = $('fieldset'); form.calculation(); })(jQuery) Thanks for response. Hi, Sorry very beginner in JS I am using formmail and JS to collect booking info calculates a total and sends to email. Formmail redirects to a thankyou page. Here I can send the total to paypal. I have looked and looked, but cant work out how to pass the total from the booking form to the thankyou page. How can I do this simply. Code not supplied because its nothing wonderous. Thanks I have something that's called with AJAX when the user enters some text (http://askvoke.com). What I want is to execute some javascript within this "frame". If the frame calls something, with say
Code: <script type=\"text/javascript\"> document.write('h'); </script> in it, then "h" doesn't appear, and neither does anything besides what would normally be shown if I didn't add that. Anyone have a solution? Hello. My goal is to load the JS for a specific element before displaying that element. I integrated a third part script, and it works well. I set the timer he The JS is in my heading as <script type="text/javascript" src="countdownpro.js"></script> About mid-body I have: <span id="countdown1">2010-07-20 00:00:00 GMT+00:00</span> which allows for the setting of a target date to countdown to. When the page first loads it shows the above long format target time, until the js/meta tags kick in to modify it to just show the actual countdown as 00:00:00. I have attached countdownpro.js to this post. I tried shifting the function CD_Init() to the top of the script, and also appended it inline with the .html. I tried setting the big external script to "defer", but neither arrangement worked. I also tried placing the src file right at the top. I appreciate your help. I have an entirely javascript page that once it is done it still looks like it is loading. This is more of an annoyance than anything harmful. The page can be viewed at http://mikedombrowski.com/mRNA.html Thank you for your help in advance. Hello, I am creating extension for Google Chrome and I want to add options page. http://hotfile.com/dl/79987277/f5faf...ion_2.rar.html Here is extension and I want to connect options page to content.js and when someone makes changes in options it should change code too (Sorry for bad English) Hi I am not sure if this is a javascript issue but, Google Chrome version : 10.0.680 with one particular website, when I click around the pages, chrome tries to download the page, so for example, say the page is called contact.html, it ends up trying to download a file calling it cr.download contact.html What is happening here - any ideas? Does that sound like a javascript issue to you? Thanks! hi- trying to set frame source from javascript- i cant get it to work.. Code: <script> stud = mm_adl_API.LMSGetValue("cmi.core.student_id"); newlink = ('https://blah.blah.blah&stud_id='+stud); // --> </script> <frameset rows="*,80" frameborder="no" border="0" framespacing="0"> <frame src="javascript:window.location(this.newlink)" name="thisname" /> <frame src="bottom.html" name="bottomFrame" scrolling="No" noresize="noresize" id="bottomFrame" title="Scorm Handling" onload="mm_adlOnload()" /> </frameset> Hey All, So to start out, this is my first post on CodingForums! I've only recently started learning web development so I figured it would be a good idea to get involved with some active forums. I am trying to open a random page in a frame, but I am trying to call the Javascript to do so in another frame. I currently have an html page with a frameset which has two frames. One of the frames is a toolbar that sits at the top of the page and it has an image that acts as button. When the user clicks on this image, the bottom frame generates a random page from an array of links I have hardcoded into the Javascript. The bottom frame is just set to google.com as a default because I couldn't really think of anything to put in an html file there. The problem I'm having is when I click on the image to open a random page in the bottom frame, nothing happens. The code for all the files are below. Home.html Code: <head> </head> <frameset rows='44,*' cols="*" frameborder='no'> <frame name="toolbar" noresize="noresize" src="toolbar.htm" marginwidth="5px" marginheight="10px" scrolling="no"> <frame name="main" noresize="noresize" src="http://www.google.com" marginwidth="5px" marginheight="5px" scrolling="auto" > </frameset><noframes></noframes> <body> </body> </html> The code for the frame, toolbar.htm: Code: <head> <title></title> <script type="text/JavaScript" src="random.js"></script> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper"> <div id="toolbar"> <a href="javascript:getaPage()"><img src="Images/nextpage.png" align="right" /></a> </div> </div> </body> </html> And finally the Javascript, random.js: Code: function get_random() { var ranNum= Math.floor(Math.random()*3); return ranNum; } function getaPage() { var randomPage=get_random(); var page=new Array(3) Page[0]="http://www.google.com"; Page[1]="http://www.yahoo.com"; Page[2]="http://www.myspace.com"; top.main.location.href=page[randomPage]; } And as a follow-up question, how difficult would it be to set up this entire random page generating script via php? I'm learning php so I can eventually set up a database of urls in mysql and have tags associated with each url. Thanks in advance! This is a JavaScript sample that works with Internet Explorer and Safari, but not with FireFox and Chrome. If you take the code and save it as test.html open the file with explorer or Safari you will see it works. This is the first time of posted on this forum, sorry if I missed any information. Please check this out in Internet explorer: http://www.lindesigns.us/rma/rmaonline.html I googled for the answer, but could not come up with a good response in terms of my own script on how to make the return code fields EXPAND to full length when pressed like they do in firefox and chrome. Does anyone have a quick fix for this? It's all dynamically loaded except for the first 10 fields (Which i might as well take out anyway), so I'm thinking I have to put something in the javascript somewhere, just no idea what. Thanks a lot! -pcitech hi everyone, I hope you can help me understand why my Javascript menu is different on Chrome browser. It is fine on Internet Explorer. Please see images.
