JavaScript - Radio Field Onchange Background Colour
Hello All
I was hoping you guys can help. I have 3 radio fields which when clicked on I want it to change the background colour of the table its within. The radio fields have the same name so only one can be selected at once. At the moment its changing the background yellow but if I click another radio field its not resetting back to normal (white). Im not sure how to achieve this is javascript... Here is the code im using now: Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> function swapColor(oCheckbox) { var pop = oCheckbox, checkedcolor = 'yellow'; while (pop.nodeType != 1 || pop.nodeName.toLowerCase() != 'table') pop = pop.parentNode; if (typeof pop.oldcolor == 'undefined') pop.oldcolor = pop.style.backgroundColor; pop.style.backgroundColor = (oCheckbox.checked) ? checkedcolor : pop.oldcolor; } </script> </head> <body> <table> <tr> <td> <input type="radio" name="change" value="0" onchange="swapColor(this) checked" />11111111 </td> </tr> </table> <table> <tr> <td> <input type="radio" name="change" value="1" onchange="swapColor(this)" />22222222 </td> </tr> </table> <table> <tr> <td> <input type="radio" name="change" value="2" onchange="swapColor(this)" />33333333 </td> </tr> </table> </body> </html> I would appreciate any help! Thanks! Similar TutorialsHi, Sorry to bother you all with this but I'm really new to JavaScript and can't figure this out but I'm sure it's probably quite simple for you guys. I've been using this bit of code to limit the number of characters in a text field (taken from http://www.shiningstar.net/articles/...reacounter.asp: Code: <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> function textCounter(field, cntfield, maxlimit) { if (field.value.length > maxlimit) // if too long...trim it! field.value = field.value.substring(0, maxlimit); // otherwise, update 'characters left' counter else cntfield.value = maxlimit - field.value.length; } // End --> </script> <form name="myForm" action="/articles/articles/javascript/dynamictextareacounter.asp?ID=<%=siteID%>" method="post"> <b>One Function to Count and Limit Multiple Form Text Areas</b><br> <textarea name="message1" wrap="physical" cols="28" rows="5" onKeyDown="textCounter(document.myForm.message1,document.myForm.remLen1,125)" onKeyUp="textCounter(document.myForm.message1,document.myForm.remLen1,125)"></textarea> <br> <input readonly type="text" name="remLen1" size="3" maxlength="3" value="125"> characters left <br> <textarea name="message2" wrap="physical" cols="28" rows="5" onKeyDown="textCounter(document.myForm.message2,document.myForm.remLen2,125)" onKeyUp="textCounter(document.myForm.message2,document.myForm.remLen2,125)"></textarea> <br> <input readonly type="text" name="remLen2" size="3" maxlength="3" value="125"> characters left <br> <input type="Submit" name="Submit" value="Submit"> <br> </form> What I'd like to do is make the background colour and maybe the font colour change on the 'characters left' field depending on the value of that field. So most of the time the colour is green but when the field = 0, the background colour changes to red. Can I just add to the function above or will I need a new one? If anyone could help, that would be great Cheers Hi, I have a form consisting of nine text fields (labelled 1-9) and nine radio buttons for each of the text fields. I want to enable the radio buttons when text is entered into the field corresponding to that particular radio button. Is there a way of achieving this using a JavaScript onChange event? Thank you in advance. Hello guys I have a website which uses several forms to input data, each form contains fields for the user to complete and at the end of the each form the user has the option to proceed or go back. The problem is, on form1 there is a drop down box which determines the content of subsequent forms but when a user partially completes form2 but then goes back to form1 and changes the drop down box selection, the onchange function reloads the subsequent forms but it does not clear the previous form2 values so an error is generated because those inputs are not required with the change made to the drop down box. I have tried setting the ids to zero using getelementbyid on form1 but it does not seem to work presumably because the ids are on form2 not form1? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Howdy. Have an asp.net form where the textboxes have had the onblur attribute added. Though VS2008 still barks it's an invalid attribute... However, my problem is primarily w/the txtFICODate field. When testing using 10/10/2009 in this field, the code displays the appropriate msg based on format param. However, on exiting the isValidDate function in debug mode, I see that the code does not stop at the txtFICODate html but moves to the txtDOBB isValidDate function. Here the param is MM/DD/YYYY and it loops back into the function but now displays a different format message. Previous code (ValidateFICODate(obj)) below also caused the same looping error. Debugging the same code with the txtDOBB field (10/10/56), I see it enter the function, display the appropriate message and exit. However, in debug, the code comes back to the function and then selects the field contents. Appreciate any suggestions/comments on how to fix problem so code stops at the txtFICODate field . Using xp Pro SP3, visual studio 2008 (c#). in the process of writing this, I searched other post here related to onblur + loop. So changed the event to onchange...and while the looping does not now occur, the focus just moves to the next field. Huh? Thanks, Rey Code: On page load code(if (!isPostBack)): txtFICODate.Attributes.Add("onblur", "isValidDate(this, 'MM/DD/YY');"); txtDOBB.Attributes.Add("onblur", "isValidDate(this, 'MM/DD/YYYY');"); txtDOBC.Attributes.Add("onblur", "isValidDate(this, 'MM/DD/YYYY');"); Code: <asp:TextBox ID="txtDOBB" runat="server" Font-Bold="true" Text="" Columns="10" TextMode="SingleLine" AutoPostBack="false" onblur="return isValidDate(this, 'MM/DD/YYYY');" Width="120px"></asp:TextBox> <asp:TextBox ID="txtDOBC" runat="server" Font-Bold="true" Text="" Columns="10" TextMode="SingleLine" AutoPostBack="false" onblur="return isValidDate(this, 'MM/DD/YYYY');" Width="120px"></asp:TextBox> <asp:TextBox ID="txtFICODate" runat="server" Font-Bold="true" AutoPostBack="false" onblur="return isValidDate(this, 'MM/DD/YY');" Text="" Columns="6" TextMode="SingleLine" Width="120px" ></asp:TextBox> Code: function isValidDate(ctrl, fmt) { // retrieved 9/11/09 // from http://www.dotnetspider.com/resources/20790-Validatin-date-MM-DD-YY-Format-using-javascript.aspx // modified to pass in format (mm/dd/yy, mm/dd/yyyy so msg is appropriate if incorrect // also removed - option for dates, i.e. 09-11 var dateStr = ctrl.value; var datePat; //var datePat = /^(\d{1,2})(\/)(\d{1,2})\2(\d{2}|\d{4})$/; if (fmt.toString().toUpperCase() == 'MM/DD/YY') { datePat = /^(\d{2})(\/)(\d{2})\2(\d{2})$/; } if (fmt.toString().toUpperCase() == 'MM/DD/YYYY') { datePat = /^(\d{2})(\/)(\d{2})\2(\d{4})$/; } var matchArray = dateStr.match(datePat); // is the format ok? if (matchArray == null) { if (fmt.toString().toUpperCase() == 'MM/DD/YY') { alert("Invalid date format.\n" + "Please enter the date in the MM/DD/YY format (example: 1/15/08).") ctrl.focus(); ctrl.select(); return false; } if (fmt.toString().toUpperCase() == 'MM/DD/YYYY') { alert("Invalid date format.\n" + "Please enter the date in the MM/DD/YYYY format (example: 1/15/2008).") ctrl.focus(); ctrl.select(); return false; } } // match breaks date down month = matchArray[1]; // parse date into variables day = matchArray[3]; year = matchArray[4]; if (month < 1 || month > 12) { // check month range alert("Month must be between 1 and 12."); return false; } if (day < 1 || day > 31) { alert("Day must be between 1 and 31."); return false; } if ((month == 4 || month == 6 || month == 9 || month == 11) && day == 31) { alert("Month " + month + " doesn't have 31 days!") return false } if (month == 2) { // check for february 29th var isleap = (year % 4 == 0 && (year % 100 != 0 || year % 400 == 0)); if (day > 29 || (day == 29 && !isleap)) { alert("February " + year + " doesn't have " + day + " days!"); return false; } } return true; // date is valid } // **************************************************** function ValidateFICODate(obj) { var dateFormat = 'MM/DD/YY'; var isSuccess = false; var objID = obj.id; var hidFICODate = document.getElementById('hidFICODate').value; if (obj.value == '') { alert('Please enter FICO date.' + '\n' + 'Required field.'); //document.frmCustInfo + '.' + obj.id + '.' + focus(); obj.focus(); obj.select(); return false; } // now check if valid date isSuccess = isValidDate(obj, dateFormat); if (!isSuccess) { obj.focus(); obj.select(); return false; } if (isSuccess) { if (obj.value != hidFICODate) { document.getElementById('hidFICODate_Updated').value = 'UPDATED'; document.getElementById('hidFICODate').value = obj.value; } } return isSuccess; } I have a multiple fields on my page and wish to have a reusable javascript to update the previous box with the selction made. how would this be done Code: <form name="form1" method="post" action=""> <p> <input type="textone" name="textfieldone" id="textfieldone"> </p> <p> <select name="selectone" onChange="UpdatePreviousField()"> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> <option value="3">3</option> </select> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> <input type="texttwo" name="textfieldtwo" id="textfieldtwo"> </p> <p> <select name="selecttwo" onChange="UpdatePreviousField()"> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> <option value="3">3</option> </select> </p> <p> </p> </form> Hello, On a simple form, there is a radio button group with two radio buttons, a text box, and a submit button. The first radio button is checked(selected) by default. The text box input has the onChange event handler so that if the text is changed, the second radio button will be checked(selected). The problem is the input radio name contains a hyphen that breaks the JavaScript and the name can not be changed. What is the correct syntax for referencing a hyphenated form input radio name in the onChange event? Here is the form that works correctly with no hyphen in the input radio name: Code: <form name="myFormGood" action="" onsubmit="return false;"> Good Form with no hyphen in radio button name<br> <input name="radio1" type="radio" value="4" checked> First Option<br> <input name="radio1" type="radio" value="5"> Second Option<br><br> Change the text to select the Second Option<br> <input type="text" name="text1" onChange="document.myFormGood.radio1[1].checked = 'true';" size="10" value=" "><br><br> <input type="button" name="submit" value="It Works!"> </form> Here is the form that breaks the JavaScript because it has a hyphen in the input radio name: Code: <form name="myFormBad" action="" onsubmit="return false;"> Bad Form with hyphen in radio button name breaks JavaScript<br> <input name="radio-1" type="radio" value="4" checked> First Option<br> <input name="radio-1" type="radio" value="5"> Second Option<br><br> Change the text to select the Second Option. So simple...that it doesn't want to work, that is! The line the body is onmouseover: Code: <p id="metallic" onMouseOver="switchElementColour('metallic');">metallic c-prints</p> The function is as follows Code: function switchElementColour(elementName){ var tryId = document.getElementById(elementName); var yrf = tryId.style.backgroundColor; alert(yrf); } I've tried a number of different variations, including: messing with the quotes 'hard coding' the id ("metallic") in the function (although I don't want to leave it there) changing the code around based on stuff found online ...but I keep coming back to the above. The result is a blank alert box (no errors, just blank). The element name is getting passed, because when I create an alert box in the function that looks like this: Code: alert(elementName); The result is an alert box that says metallic (no quotation marks). Au secours por favore? Hi. I am looking for a way to have a button that toggles the background colour of my website. So for instance, I will have one button called 'switch to light', when its clicked it switches the colour of the background to a light colour, and another button replaces this that says 'switch to dark', and so on. The main problem is I have no idea how to store this information when the user is on the site so when the page is refreshed the colour is remembered. I am a complete newbie to Javascript, so any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks Hi All, I quite new to JavaScript and find myself stuck while trying to change the background colour of an input box. I have an external js file and everything seems to work perfectly but for some reason I cant get the colour to change. Any help is REALLY appreciated! In order to separate the concerns (content/style/behavior) you should add/remove a class to the element and apply styles with CSS using that class as selector. Every contemporary browser has a developer console built in, look into the JS console and see if there are any errors coming up. Other than that, it helps if you posted a link to your page so we can see ourselves without having to guess. I have a list of 8 radio button options for people to choose one option with the last option being other - and then I want if the user clicks other that the text field box next to it becomes a required field and the form will not submit until this text field is filled in. If the user selects one of the other radio button options then the text field is not compulsory. I am using a linked javascript validation file which checks that all fields on the form which I have stated as required - become required, but I am having problems getting this "Other" button and text field to work with it all and not have the submit continue without this text field being completed! any help would really be appreciated! I'm new to programming, although I've learned HTML and CSS pretty thoroughly. I think I have most of the Javascript basics down as far as definitions, but I'm getting hung up on the actual coding. I'm working on an information request form for my fiancee's business site. In it, I want to have options that users select via radio buttons. Rather than having additional input fields static on the page, I would like to program some of the radios, when clicked, to open a previously unseen option where users will then be able to type in the necessary information. More specifically, since she only works in two states, I want a third option of "other," which, when opened, will allow the user to input any other state. Then, should the radio be deselected or reset, the field would disappear again. If my understanding is correct, I think I will need to use a javascript function in the header, an HTML "div" section with ID, "onclick" and "offclick" events in the button mark-up, and the specific javascript code to call the function (getElementById?). Or maybe I'm way off. Please help. Thanks Hi coders, I need to achieve two things upon making a selection from a drop down field: 1) Changing the background picture of a cell. 2) Changing the size of a uploaded foreground picture within the same cell. Code: <select name=ADDITIONALINFO> <option value="25 x 25">25 x 25</option> <option value="35 x 35">35 x 35</option> <option value="45 x 45">45 x 45</option> <option value="55 x 55">55 x 55</option> </select> Any guidance how to achieve this is appreciated. |
