JavaScript - Script To Detect Browser And Then Change Page Contents
Hi there, I basically need script that will detect if the user is using Internet Explorer, and then display a different page to the one that would be loaded for any other browser.
Similar TutorialsHi I am trying to trigger an event once the user clicks the browsers back/forward buttons, I have built a system just like facebook where if the user has javascript turned on they get the full feature of the site which includes fast switching for example if someone goes to this page "example.com/index.php" and click a link to contact.php it would change the url to "example.com/index.php#!/contact.php" but what I need to know is if there is any way to change the pages content when the user goes back and forth through the fast switch pages? something like "history.back !== -1" or something like that. If anyone can help please reply, thank you. Greetings! I'm not a huge javascript person, I barely know enough php to get by. I struggle and I learn. I have this page that take a while to load and I really don't want it to show the results in the browser before the php script finishes. So I was hoping that somebody could point me to a way to either give some sort of wait indicator (i.e. a bar, the trendy twrilling circle thingy) or just hide the everything till the page is completely loaded. Below this sentence is the original post I left in the PHP forum. Since the birth of CSS3 you can easily use fonts that are NOT on the local users PC. This is the best! Although some fonts do not render through the browser. I wrote this script (for personal use) which is pretty elementary which reads fonts in a directory (without installing them in windows) and then lets you display them in various web aspects. In the script I pick a random background color and calculate a contrast color and then determine if the text color should be black or white depending on the color of the background. What's happening is that if I pile a bunch of fonts in the fonts directory when the script executes it displays the contents until it 100% complete. Basically I'd like it NOT to do that. I was looking around a progress bars but .. they don't seem to do much. I couldn't find one that would either give you that twrilling circle while it loads or something to that nature. **Is you test this script you MUST create a folder named 'fonts' in the root of where you put the script! ***If you find ways that I can make this more effecient or any tips or tricks that'd be great and constructive criticism is always appreciated! Thanks so much for any help or advice given! You'll need the javascript file animatedcollapse.js from my site http://handlersspot.net/css3font/animatedcollapse.js There's are three images: http://handlersspot.net/css3font/slantdivider.gif http://handlersspot.net/css3font/minus.png http://handlersspot.net/css3font/plus.png I tried to post the source here but it seems that I used up my allotment of 20K characters I tried to use the attachments feature but it doesn't work for me for some reason so I posted all the source here on my website: http://handlersspot.net/css3font/source.html Whew! That's allot of stuff! Again .. thanks for the effort/advice/help way in advance! Oh! Sorry! Meant to put the actual working version of this here --> http://handlersspot.net/css3font hey all is there a code where I can detect if the browser is IE6 or IE7 and send them to another webpage? my current design is not compatible with IE6 or 7 and i want to make a new page that's compatible. thanks! I am attempting to make an page on my website where visitors can set my website as their homepage. I am trying to make my website read which browser my visitors are using and then redirects them to the page for the right browser where I can tell them how they can set my website as their homepage. Basically I need exactly the same thing as THIS. Could you explain to me in plain English how I can realize this. This is what I know have: Code: <table width="759" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" > <tr align="center"> <td width="378" height="28" align="right">Selecteer jouw browser </td> <td width="16"></td> <td width="365" align="left"><form id="browserSelection" name="browserSelection" action="customizeBrowser" method="GET"><select name="browser" size="1" id="browser" onchange="document.browserSelection.submit();"><option value="ff" selected>Firefox</option><option value="ie">Internet Explorer</option><option value="chrome">Chrome</option><option value="opera">Opera</option><option value="safari">Safari</option></select></form></td> </tr> </table> ________________________________________ Please tell me if I make any English mistakes in my posts. I am trying to write as perfectly possible. Hi.. Anyone can help me to reslove tis.. How to detect iTune plugin in IE Browser...Am using navigator.plugins[] array..its working in firefox, chrome but i need for IE browser..pls help on tis very urgent.. In my application I want user to take an "Exit Survey"(Independent website) when he is leaving the application. As name explains, It should happen only when user closes current browser tab or browser window. Its possible using JavaScript OnUnload event. But the problem is that this event occurs on 1. close of browser tab 2. close of browser window 3. click of any internal page link(i.e anchors and form buttons) 4. click of browser's Refresh button 5. click of browser's Back/Forward button I have handled first 3 cases but not able to detect Refresh and Back/Forward button click. Has anybody of you implemented such functionality?? Thanks in advance!!! I want to have a browser language detection for 2 languages for Explorer and Firefox and struggle a little to make it work. I don't know really much about JavaScript so I guess I did some grave errors. It works for one language though, but for that I don't really detection. I am not sure if that's wrong, but I try to look for the 'en-' in the language not to deal separately with en-US, en-AU, en-UK etc. PHP Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var str=navigator.language; x = (str.search(/en-/i)); if ( !(x=='-1') ) { document.write("English Mozilla"); } var expl=navigator.browserLanguage; ex = (expl.search(/en-/i)); if ( !(ex=='-1') ) { document.write("Englisch1 Explorer"); } var dm=navigator.language; d1 = (dm.search(/de-/i)); if ( !(d1=='-1') ) { document.write("German Mozilla"); } var dex=navigator.browserLanguage; dexpl = (dex.search(/de-/i)); if ( !(dexpl=='-1') ) { document.write("German Explorer"); } </script> I doubt this is possible, but I have no idea what actually happens when a page loads, so I thought I would give it a shot... if a js file that is loaded externally has parameters, is it possible to turn those parameters into variables, giving the user the option to select the variable's value after the page has loaded? maybe a concrete example would be better... in google maps, the api is loaded like this: Code: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false"></script> but if you wanted to specify that you want the api to function in Spanish, you load it like this: Code: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false&language=es"></script> and that language=es is the one that I want to change. But I can't seem to make it into a variable on page load, like this: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var lang="es"; </script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false&language=lang"></script> much less make it changeable once the page has loaded. I have a feeling that this is a really dumb question, but can it be done without reloading the entire page? Hi.. Im currently working on my project and I have a big problem with changing the layout of tabs. Basically, when I launch my GUI, it will display "No Data Available" in my view tab. In my Add tab, I have the admin panel whereby the user enters the data to be stored and display. the problem now lies when displaying. It is a juke ringtone gallery whereby when there are data being stored in the database, it will display the following in a Gridlayout; I applied the ChangeListener to the JTabbedPane which is tp. I added tabs using tp.add. I declared this in my ChangeListener: if(tp.getSelectedIndex() == 0) createViewPanel(); else if(tp.getSelectedIndex()==1) createAddPanel(); where createViewPanel() is for the View tab and createAddPanel() is for the Add tab. i also called the respective tabs using frameView = (JPanel)tp.getComponent(0); to get the layout for View tab and frameAdd = (JPanel)tp.getComponent(1); to get the layout for the Add tab. What methods need I use so that I can display the different data in the specific GridLayout to be displayed in the View tab or what other ways can I do it? Hi Guys, I need to amend the below so that if any version of IE is detected it calls window.resizeTo(300,400); otherwise no event or a window.moveTo(0,0); event (either one). Firefox is having problems with resizeto THANKS! <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> if "any version of internet explorer" window.resizeTo(300,400); else window.moveTo(0,0); </SCRIPT> OR <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> if "any version of internet explorer" window.resizeTo(300,400); else "do nothing" </SCRIPT> I am working on a project where I have 5 XML files that I bring into HTML and display the tables on one browser page. I would like for the row of the tables to change depending on what is in the "status" field. You can also probably tell how the XML files are structured by looking at the way they are displayed in the tables. I think what I want to do can be accomplished with JavaScript, but I have no idea how to do it and it's the only thing I have left before I'm done. Any help would really be appreciated and thanks in advance. Hi friends, What I have been trying to achieve is, On my index.htm, I have a horizontal cell named "memberarea" which originally shows username & password input fields. After the user logs in, this area changes itself to a "Welcome Name, Lastname" field. I want that this cell displays again the username and password input fields in case of the session of the user has expired. I have tried it with the following code (within the Iframe in index.htm): ----------------------------------------- <script> if ("<%=session("LoginFirstName")%>" == "") { var m = " <p align="center"> <font style="font-size: 8pt; font-weight: 700" face="arial"> Username:</font> <span style="font-size: 1pt"> <input type="text" name="uid" id="uid" size="14" style="width: 65; height: 17; font-size: 8pt"></span><font face="arial" style="font-size: 8pt"> </font><font style="font-size: 8pt; font-weight: 700" face="arial">Password:</font><font face="arial" style="font-size: 8pt"> </font><span style="font-size: 1pt"> <input type="password" name="pwd" id="pwd" maxlength="10" size="14" style="width: 65; height: 17; font-size: 8pt"></span><span style="font-size: 1px"> </span> <input type="submit" value="Enter" name="B1" style="width: 35; height: 17; font-size:9px" onclick="return login()">"; window.parent.document.getElementById('memberarea').innerHTML=m; } </script> -------------------------------------------------- This code gives me the error that on the 12xx'the line (which does not exist-the whole code is 5xx lines). there is a ";" missing which I could not found. Any ideas how to achieve this? Thank you for your comments I find the following detect Internet connection script unreliable. Can someone tell me what I should change to make it work consistently? To sum up, the code detects an image on a server and checks its size. If it's size is less than zero, then "Off" appears in a form input field. Otherwise, "On" appears in the field. This code is being used in a smartphone to test for Internet connection. Code: <form id="formConnection"> <input id="connectionStatus" class="display2" size="1" type="text" name="status" value=""> </form> <!-- testConnectionInApp.png is a 126-byte 10x10px PNG image. --> <script type="text/javascript"> function showOn(form) { form.elements.status.value = "On"; } function showOff(form) { form.elements.status.value = "Off"; } function testConnection() { var checkExistenceOfImg = new Image(); var form = document.getElementById('formConnection'); checkExistenceOfImg.src = "http://aedownloads.com/misc/testConnectionInApp.png"; if(checkExistenceOfImg.height > 0) { showOn(form); } else { showOff(form); } } </script> </body> </html> Another thing that has been driving me crazy is that css positioning is handled differently by different browsers. JS is not my area, but I can do a lot with CSS, and I do, but cross browser compatibility is killing me. I can use an IF IE statement and only IE runs that segment of code, but I haven't been able to figure out out how to make ONLY firefox or ONLY opera or safari enact an encapsulated segment of code. The same type of IF statement doesn't work for them. Is there a single method using JS that works for all browsers? Thre is probably a very simple answer and I am just missing it somehow. Hello, I am currently working on my school's website. The site is laid out with a DIV on the left set up as a menu (called "leftmenu") and a DIV to the right to display the content (called "maincontent"). Clicking a link in leftmenu calls a script which changes the content of "maincontent". The script currently works as it should except for one small error. The appropriate heading, text and image load for each link, but the formatting between the image and the paragraph is lost. When the page originally loads, the image is set to "float:left" and the paragraph wraps around it to the right. However, when the script runs and changes the contents, the paragraph no longer wraps around the image, but is written below it. Javascript function: Code: var nov12="News for November 12"; var nov11="News for November 11"; var nov10="News for November 10"; function writeNews(title, image, txt) { document.getElementById("newsTitle").innerHTML=title; document.getElementById("newsImage").src=image; document.getElementById("newsText").innerHTML=txt; } HTML for the links calling the function and maincontent: Code: <div class="leftmenu"> <h3>News</h3> <ul class="leftmenu"> <li class="leftmenu"><a class="leftmenu" href="javascript:writeNews('November 12','img1.jpg',nov12)">Nov 12</a></li> <li class="leftmenu"><a class="leftmenu" href="javascript:writeNews('November 11','img2.jpg',nov11)">Nov 11</a></li> <li class="leftmenu"><a class="leftmenu" href="javascript:writeNews('November 10','img3.jpg',nov10)">Nov 10</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="maincontent"> <h3 id="newsTitle">School News</h3> <img id="newsImage" class="newsimagestyle" src="img1.jpg" /> <p id="newsText"><img id="newsImage" class="newsimagestyle" src="" />Select the date from the menu on the left for news posted on that day.</p> </div> I have also attached the "before.jpg" and "after.jpg" screen captures from the relevant section of the website so you can see what changes are happening to the formatting. BEFO AFTER: Any help to keep the formatting in the same would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Phil I have a goal in mind, and that is to get the width & height of a <DIV> tag in one document and insert them into another document...all on the same domain. It sounds like a simple task, but in case more detail is needed, let me explain: I have a page called 'demo.html' which launches a page called 'gallery/archive_iframe.html' via Shadowbox as an iFrame. The problem is that 'gallery/archive_iframe.html' slightly differs in dimension on every browser and screen resolution. I want to have the iFrame's size detected every time it launches so Shadowbox can get solid dimensions to display it without scrollbars. You can see the current (fixed size) example at: http://www.mikegermond.com/demo.html Click on the 'Video Archive' image. Here is the code I would like to insert the dimensions in to: Code: <A HREF="/gallery/archive_iframe.html" rel="shadowbox;width= ??? ;height= ??? " class="imgLink" title="Video Archive"><img src="gallery/videoarchive_thm.jpg" alt="Launch Video Archive (popup window)" width="260" height="162" border="0" /></A> Hi, Does anyone know if there is a event or something that fires when Javascript finishes executing. When I load a page, the body's onLoad event fires when it has finished loading but there might be some Javascript that is still running (or javascript that is triggered from the onLoad event itself). And this javascript could add to the page's DOM. So is there any way to detect when the page has REALLY finished loading (ignoring the possibility of setTimeout() etc). I need to know this as I am constructing a webpage-scraper and therefore I need to know when the pages have completely loaded. Thanks, I want to - after the page has loaded - detect a text string in the code.. something similar to Code: function afterPageLoadsDetect() { Quote: Simply put -- I want javascript to detect a text string in the source code and return it to me -- AFTER the page is fully loaded. THANKS. Hello, I have an issue. I can't seem to extract XML from an somepage.xml document and display it on a regular webpage. I have no way of reading its contents. I read up on some microsoft way of doing it, but not sure that is gonna fly (need it for most browsers), so can this be done easily with json/ajax? I have an xml file in normal format: www.somedomain.com/somepath/somexml.xml <products> <items> <item>blah</item> <item>blah2</item> <item>blah3</item> <item>blah4</item> <item>blah5</item> </items> </products> So, how do I get that data to manipulate and display in my html? I don't even know where to begin with json/ajx etc.. and how to call the xml file etc.. |
