JavaScript - Display A Text File In Webpage
I have the ability to remotely upload a text file to a folder on my web server.
Periodically during the day I update that file and re-upload it which overwrites the previous file. I am looking for a script to insert in a webpage that will "get" and display the current version of that file on page load. Thanks in advance. Similar TutorialsI maintain a website for a small local restaurant. I do this with FrontPage so I know very little coding. I have an upload manager so the owner can remotely upload a txt or doc file of daily specials to a folder on the server. I would like to put a java script into one of the web pages that would open and display this file on page load. Is that possible and can someone help with the code, Thanks Bit of a noob when it comes to js. Hope someone can help me out. I am trying to place text output from a url on another webpage. The output is the status of an alarm system. The URL is: Code: https://www.eye-zon.com/EZMOBILE/index.php?mid=<hash>&action=ssi&did=<mac> hash and mac info remove for security reasons. The URL leads to a webpage that outputs: Code: <update>2011-08-18 21:21:10</update><status> Stay Armed </status><trouble>NO</trouble> I would like to place these three outputs on another page. Any ideas? Hi! First post here! Would really appreciate some help on a javascript that would display the time elapsed since a particular visitor last visited my webpage, using cookies. So basically it should show something like: "You last visited my page 2 days & 12 mins ago!" I've a little background in java but none in javascript... Thanks so much! Hi. Can someone tell me if it is possible to display the duration a webpage is accesssed. For example, if its a form webpage, then the time to be displayed will be = time the webpage was left (press submit button etc. or the time the viewer left the page) - time the webpage was first accessed or loaded. If it is possible with javascript, what are the methods, attributes etc that need to be used. I'm try to set up a webpge that will play a live flash video on the left-hand side(got that part working) and display one slide of a presentation(jpg) to the right of the video. I would like to be able to control when the slide image changes by having some js check a text file on my server. The text file could contain something as simple as "Slide1.jpg". I will manipulate the text file with some code I've already written. Is there some simple js code I can put in my page that will cause it to check the text file every 5 seconds, and if the content of the file has changed, to refresh the image on the page with the new image? I'm try to get away from the "clicking" sound that is caused by doing a simple refresh of an Iframe. I'm a complete novice at js, so any help would be appreciated. I'm also open to other solutions that would accomplish the same thing. Thanks, Mike Hi, I want to when I open a web page , my program detect all the "digit numbers" and display all of them for me. I don't know exactly what do I do? Thanks. Regards. I would like to ask is it posible to add text from a text file to a text area on a page.. Philp if you read this i am not asking for a javascript code i am asking wether or not it can be done. P.s if your a nice person like philp is not and you want to private message me if you have one I have an xml file: http://greenandtheblue.com/weather/parks.xml I'd like to display on an html page the time this xml document was last modified. I've done this successfully with php, but I'm wondering if I can do this with Javascript? The file will be in the same directory as the website/html page. I've googled for a while now with no success. Thanks for any help, S I'm having major pains trying to figure this out. I'm kind of new to Javascript, I need to open a text file from an external server, store each line in an array, then search that array for a certain word (HIGH), and if it exists then write something to the webpage, and if not, write something else. Here is what I have so far: Code: <html> <head> <title>Test</title> <script> <!-- function test(x) { if (wxd1txt.readyState === 4 && wxd1txt.status === 200) { // Makes sure the document is ready to parse and Makes sure it's found the file. var wxd1text = wxd1txt.responseText; var wxd1array = wxd1txt.responseText.split("\n"); // Will separate each line into an array var wxd1high = wxd1array.toString(); //Converting the String content to String //var highsearchreg = new RegExp("HIGH"); //var wxd1high = wxd1array[x].search(highsearchreg); document.write(wxd1high); if (wxd1high.search("HIGH") >= 0){ document.write("HIGH RISK");} else { document.write("NO RISK");} } } //--> </script> </head> <body> Hi! <script> <!-- var Today = new Date(); var ThisDay = Today.getDate(); var ThisMonth = Today.getMonth()+1; var ThisYear = Today.getYear(); var Hour = Today.getHours(); var Day2 = Today.getDate()+1; var Day3 = Today.getDate()+2; if (navigator.appName != "Microsoft Internet Explorer") { ThisYear = ThisYear + 1900;} if (ThisMonth < 10) { ThisMonth = "0" + ThisMonth;} if (ThisDay < 10) { ThisDay = "0" + ThisDay;} if (Hour == 2 || Hour == 22 || Hour == 23 || Hour == 0 || Hour == 1) { var wxHourd1 = 0600} else if (Hour >= 3 && Hour <= 10) { var wxHourd1 = 1300;} else if (Hour >= 11 && Hour <= 13) { var wxHourd1 = 1630;} else if (Hour >= 14 && Hour <= 16) { var wxHourd1 = 2000;} else if (Hour >= 17 && Hour <= 21) { var wxHourd1 = 0100;} //var wxurld1 = "http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/archive/"+ThisYear+"/KWNSPTSDY1_"+ThisYear+""+ThisMonth+""+ThisDay+""+wxHourd1+".txt"; var wxurld1 = "http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/archive/2010/KWNSPTSDY1_201005101300.txt" //(High risk day for testing) //document.write(wxurld1); //Use this to verify this section is working if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { wxd1txt=new XMLHttpRequest(); } else // IE 5/6 { wxd1txt=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } wxd1txt.open("GET", wxurld1, true); wxd1txt.onreadystatechange = test(); // --> </script> </body> </html> When added to a webpage, nothing shows up except the "Hi!" and there are no errors in the Javascript Console in Google Chrome. Is this possible with Javascript, and if so, what am I doing wrong or not doing? Also, I have 2 URLs, one is a text file that has the HIGH text I want for an example, the other is the current file, which shouldn't have HIGH in it (unless the weather in the US turns really bad) I have a javascript file and a html file. On the html file I have an action (button) and would like to use some type of attribute of the onclick to call my function to open this html file. below is the beginning of my function: requestPanel_Forwardme: function() { view.opendialog("show_me") What other attributes of action can I use? can this function in my JS file be called and if so how would I call it? <action?? Hey guys, Im trying to figure out how to display a string of text beneath the drop down when a specific option is selected. for example: if you select 'Colors' just plain text would appear the drop down and show the list of colors 'red, blue, green, yellow' or if you select 'Fruit' the plain text shows the list of fruit "orange, banana, apple, lemon' Any ideas or can you guys point me in the right direction? I have a similar code except its when you type in a number in a textarea it would output the coressponding data. ok well here's what i want to do i have a bbcode for download links on my forum when this bbcode is parsed, it will display a link under the download link BUT only for the first 3 links so basically i would need a javascript with a counter, that will display some text if the counter is > 3 and then add +1 to the counter normally i would EASILY do this with php, but i can't (bbcodes are parsed not parsed by server on phpbb, and you can't use php code in bbcodes) And since i'm a total newbie with javascript, i need to come here and ask this stupid question :/ thanks for your help! if you still don't understand what i want to do, here is how it would look in php if i could include this code in my phpbb custom bbcode: Code: <? if (empty($compteur)) { $compteur = "1"; } if ($compteur < 4) { echo "bla blah blah"; $compteur = $compteur+1; } ?> hi all, im looking for a script that does the following when the page loads "text1" is displayed. then on the next line 2 seconds later "text2" is displayed and test1 is still displayed. and i need this to go to 5 lines so the final project should look like --- text1 text2 text3 text4 text5 thanks Hello, have a website that contains many excel files (.xls and .zip). I need to display the last modified date of these files. They currently reside on a webserver. I found this script in this forum, BUT, it only seems to work for .htm or really anything else except .xls or .zip files. <html> <head> <title>Last Modified</title> <script type="text/javascript"> function getLastMod(){ var myFrm = document.getElementById('myIframe'); var lastModif = new Date(myFrm.contentWindow.document.lastModified); document.getElementById('LastModified').innerHTML = "Last Update: " + lastModif.toLocaleString(); } </script> </head> <body> <span id="LastModified"></span> <iframe id="myIframe" onload="getLastMod()" src="DFC_new_page.htm" style="display:none;" width="352" height="137"> </iframe> </body> </html> Also, when I place an .xls file inside the src= field it ends up opening the file. HELP!!!! I am new to writing scripts and unfortunately only have Frontpage to use for this. Thank you!!!!! Hi all, this is the code I'm using in order to display the contents of an xml file into a page. It's working fine with IE but with Firefox. I have searched over intrenet and have applied all suggestions I've found about this issue. Unfortunately it's still not working. Can you please help me??? Code: function importXML() { if (document.implementation && document.implementation.createDocument) { xmlDoc = document.implementation.createDocument("", "", null); xmlDoc.onload = createTable; } else if (window.ActiveXObject) { xmlDoc = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM"); xmlDoc.onreadystatechange = function () { if (xmlDoc.readyState == 4) createTable() }; } else { alert('Your browser can\'t handle this script'); return; } xmlDoc.load("news.xml"); } function createTable() { var x = xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName('event'); var newEl = document.createElement('table'); newEl.style.width = '100%'; newEl.setAttribute('cellPadding',0); newEl.setAttribute('cellspacing',0); var tmp = document.createElement('TBODY'); newEl.appendChild(tmp); for (i=0;i<x.length;i++) { var row = document.createElement('TR'); if (x[i].childNodes[0].nodeType != 1) continue; var container = document.createElement('<TD style="padding-left:3px; font-weight:bold;">'); var theData = document.createTextNode(x[i].childNodes[0].firstChild.nodeValue); container.appendChild(theData); row.appendChild(container); tmp.appendChild(row); row = document.createElement('TR'); if (x[i].childNodes[1].nodeType != 1) continue; var container = document.createElement('<TD class="box_2">'); var theData = document.createTextNode(x[i].childNodes[1].firstChild.nodeValue); container.appendChild(theData); row.appendChild(container); tmp.appendChild(row); } document.getElementById('writeroot').appendChild(newEl); } Hi, may I ask how do you display a line or a sentence when you click the checkbox? I wanted to toggle text by using a JavaScript. I used the following script: Code: function toggle_visibility(id) { var e = document.getElementById(id); e.style.display = ((e.style.display!='none') ? 'none' : 'block'); } and Code: <a href="#" onclick="toggle_visibility('foo');">Click here to toggle visibility of element #foo</a> <div id="foo">This is foo</div> for every element I wanted to hide by clicking the text. It works fine, but the content of the div is already displayed when loading the page itself. I want it to be hidden first, and only visible when you blick the text. Is this possible? Hi I am trying to use stoutlabs content slider on my website. I have a dummy set up here www.mattbbell.com Instead of the numbered navigation i want to have text like home, bio, contact etc The demo can be download here http://stoutlabs.com/demos/class_sli..._slider_v2.zip with all files necessary to make the dummy website you see there... From what i can tell I have to edit the sl_slider_new.js file and make it call a list of divs that i name home, bio, contact I think this is the section i need to edit but i don't know much about javascript.... Code: // -- Number nav setup if(self.options.numNavActive == true){ //create numbered navigation boxes, and insert into the 'num_nav' ul) var numItem = new Element('li', {id: 'num'+i}); var numLink = new Element('a', { 'class': 'numbtn', 'html': (i+1) }); numItem.adopt(numLink); self.options.numNavHolder.adopt(numItem); self.numNav.push(numLink); numLink.set('morph', {duration: 100, transition: Fx.Transitions.linear, link: 'ignore'}); numLink.addEvents({ 'click' : function(){ self.numPress(i); }, 'mouseenter' : function() { this.setStyle('cursor', 'pointer'); } }); //set initial number to active state if(i == self.options.itemNum){ var initNum = self.numNav[i]; initNum.addClass('active'); } } //end if num nav 'active' }); }, thanks! This is a follow up to my older thread, about tables and finding images within them. So after getting some help from "Krupski" I found myself stuck again. I'm trying to go at this rather from an other point of view, instead of getting the cell information I am now trying to get the alt text value. from within the image tag. but being a novice at this well ive hit a wall. My code so far. searches though the table finding the sad images then i want it to display the Alt-text or an other value table_id or similar. also is there a fast way of putting in Alt text like A1,2,3 B1,2,3 etc like an automated loop. (might work on this after the main problem is dealt with) Code: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> var findImg = function(name) { var e = document.getElementsByTagName('img'); var i = e.length; // how many img elements total var str = ''; while (i--) { if (e[i].src.indexOf(name) != -1) // if match... str += e[i].src + '\n'; //...copy to str with a newline } alert(str); // display all matches } function searchFor(){ findImg('smiley%20sad%20Icon.jpg'); // call the function with the name to be matched } </script> </head> <body> <table width="200" border="1"> <tr Id="A"> <td Id="1"><img src="http://www.hencam.co.uk/hencam_forum//extensions/Smile/tango/face-smile.png" Alt="A1"> </td> <td Id="2"><img src="http://www.hencam.co.uk/hencam_forum//extensions/Smile/tango/face-smile.png" Alt="A2"> </td> <td Id="3"><img src="http://www.iconeasy.com/icon/thumbnails/System/Icons%20for%20Developers/smiley%20sad%20Icon.jpg" Alt="A3"></td> </tr> <tr Id="B"> <td Id="1"><img src="http://www.hencam.co.uk/hencam_forum//extensions/Smile/tango/face-smile.png" Alt="B1"></td> <td Id="2"><img src="http://www.iconeasy.com/icon/thumbnails/System/Icons%20for%20Developers/smiley%20sad%20Icon.jpg" Alt="B2"></td> <td Id="3"><img src="http://www.hencam.co.uk/hencam_forum//extensions/Smile/tango/face-smile.png" Alt="B3"></td> </tr> <tr Id="C"> <td Id="1"><img src="http://www.hencam.co.uk/hencam_forum//extensions/Smile/tango/face-smile.png" Alt="C1"></td> <td Id="2"><img src="http://www.hencam.co.uk/hencam_forum//extensions/Smile/tango/face-smile.png" Alt="C2"></td> <td Id="3"><img src="http://www.hencam.co.uk/hencam_forum//extensions/Smile/tango/face-smile.png" Alt="C3"></td> </tr> </table> <br> <input type="button" value="Search" id="Search" onClick="searchFor();"/> </body> </html> Thanks in advance anyone who can help. ~Mark j |
