JavaScript - Dropdown Display Text
Hey guys, Im trying to figure out how to display a string of text beneath the drop down when a specific option is selected.
for example: if you select 'Colors' just plain text would appear the drop down and show the list of colors 'red, blue, green, yellow' or if you select 'Fruit' the plain text shows the list of fruit "orange, banana, apple, lemon' Any ideas or can you guys point me in the right direction? I have a similar code except its when you type in a number in a textarea it would output the coressponding data. Similar Tutorialsi have a simple form basically....and i want to display a div containing a message when a certain dropdown menu item is selcted... as you will see...i have two divs in my message...one named website design and one named twitter design both set to display none when website design is selected i want the websitemessage div to display when twitter is selected i want the twitter message to display... any thoughts? here is some of the code Code: <form id="contactform" action="contact-submit.php" method="post"> <!-- form fields --> <div class="form"> <label for="name">Name<em>•</em></label> <input class="textbox required" type="text" name="name" id="name" /><br /> <label for="email">E-Mail<em>•</em></label> <input class="textbox required email" type="text" name="email" id="email" /><br /> <label for="subject">What are you interested in?<em>•</em></label> <select type="text" value="Choose a Service" name="subject" id="subject" onchange="Select(this,'budget',1);"/> <option selected> -- Select A Design Service --</option> <option id="website"> Website Design </option> <option> Twitter </option> <option> Ning or Tumblr </option> <option> Flyers </option> <option> Business Card or Brochure</option> <option> Album or Mixtape cover</option> <option>Other</option> </select><br /> <div id="websitemessage" style="display:none;"><label> Do you already have a Logo to use for this website? </label> <input style="width:auto;margin-left:10px;" type="radio" name="budget" value="Logo: Yes"> Yes <input style="width:auto;margin-left:10px;" type="radio" name="budget" value="Logo: Not yet"> Not yet </input> </div> <div id="twittermessage" style="color:#B5B5B5; display:none;"><SPAN>Twitter Designs start at </SPAN><span style="color:#000;"> $30</SPAN> </div> any ideas on what script i would put into the head tags to make that happen? I have two dropdown menus. 1st -> Drop Down Menu (name="optionDrop") has 5 values which are "ABC", "ABCD", "ABCDE", "True or False" and "Yes or No". 2nd -> Drop Down Menu (name="numberDrop") has 5 values which are "","1", "2", "3" and "4". Now this is what I want to achieve: If user select "ABC" from "optionDrop", then only display options "", "1" and "2" If user select "ABCD" from "optionDrop", then only display options "", "1", "2" and "3" If user select "ABCDE" from "optionDrop", then only display options "", "1", "2", "3" and "4" If user select "True or False" from "optionDrop", then do not display DropDown Menu and Display N/A (This I achieved but I want hidden numberDrop to equal 1, I have not achieved that part) If user select "Yes or No" from "optionDrop", then do not display DropDown Menu and Display N/A (This I achieved but I want hidden numberDrop to equal 1, I have not achieved that part) Does anyone know how this can be done and implemented in the javascript code I have? Below is Javascript Code: Code: function getDropDown() { var optionDrop = document.getElementsByName("optionDrop"); var na = document.getElementById("na"); var numberDrop = document.getElementsByName("numberDrop"); var answerA = document.getElementById("answerA"); var answerB = document.getElementById("answerB"); var answerC = document.getElementById("answerC"); var answerD = document.getElementById("answerD"); var answerE = document.getElementById("answerE"); var answerTrue = document.getElementById("answerTrue"); var answerFalse = document.getElementById("answerFalse"); var answerYes = document.getElementById("answerYes"); var answerNo = document.getElementById("answerNo"); if (optionDrop[0].value == "abc" || optionDrop[0].value == "abcd" || optionDrop[0].value == "abcde"){ numberDrop[0].style.display = "block"; na.style.display = "none"; }else if (optionDrop[0].value == "trueorfalse" || optionDrop[0].value == "yesorno"){ numberDrop[0].style.display = "none"; na.style.display = "block"; } } Htrml code: Code: <form id="enter" action="<?php echo htmlentities($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']); ?>" method="post" onsubmit="return validateForm(this);" > <table id="middleDetails" border="1"> <tr> <td>Question:</td> <td rowspan="3"> <textarea rows="5" cols="40" name="questionText"></textarea> </td> <td>Option Type:</td> <td> <select name="optionDrop" onClick="getDropDown()"> <option value="">Please Select</option> <option value="abc">ABC</option> <option value="abcd">ABCD</option> <option value="abcde">ABCDE</option> <option value="trueorfalse">True or False</option> <option value="yesorno">Yes or No</option> </select> </td> <tr> <td colspan="2"></td> <td>Number of Answers:</td> <td> <span id="na">N/A</span> <select name="numberDrop" id="numberDropId" onChange="getButtons()"> <option value=""></option> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> <option value="3">3</option> <option value="4">4</option> </select> </td> </tr> </table> </form> I have a long list consisting of a name and associated number, like this: SITE01 2111 SITE02 4567 SITE03 5555 and so on. I would like to put two dropdown boxes where the user can select either the name or the number. Then based upon the users selection have both the name and number appear. I'm thinking of putting all the data in an array and using the dropdowns to query the array. That sounds good but I'm new to javascript and a detailed example of how to do this would be needed, if its even the right approach to take to accomplish this. Hi, I would like to adapt this script to make it so that when the user selects something in the dropdown, it changes the text within a div (for example, but so i can have formatting) this is because i want to have html in the text that appears (instead of it being in a textarea) ive been trying to get this to work but not with much luck thanks for any help! Hello, I am needing the coding to do the follow: When a user makes a selection from a dropdown, the value is placed in a text input. SELECT >>> INPUT Thank you so much for your help! i m required to script the coding in which if we select an option from dropdown menu a text should be apprehend in disabled text field.. i dont have any idea about javascripting so sorry for being so dump... i need resultant in this form Hey everyone. Been racking my brain all day trying to figure out how to duplicate this code with the limited javascript knowledge I have been trying to learn. This code is a Dropdown menu of Yes or No, than a Select button that Opens up a Text Input directly below the dropdown. So far, It works great. My problem is I need at least two of these on the same page and I do not know how to go about it. I have tried changing values to accommodate adding another on the same form, but than both stop working. Can someone Please HELP! Thank you in advance. Code: <html> <head> <SCRIPT language="javascript"> function add(type) { //Create an input type dynamically. var element = document.createElement("input"); //Assign different attributes to the element. element.setAttribute("type", type); element.setAttribute("value", type); element.setAttribute("name", type); element.setAttribute("id", type); var foo = document.getElementById("fooBar"); //Append the element in page (in span). foo.appendChild(element); } </SCRIPT> </head> <body> <label> <SELECT name="element"> <OPTION value="text" name="refer_yes" id="refer_yes">Yes</OPTION> <OPTION value="text" name="refer_no" id="refer_no">No</OPTION> </SELECT> <INPUT type="button" value="Select" onclick="add(document.forms[0].element.value='')"/> </label> <span id="fooBar"> </span> </body> <html> hi all, im looking for a script that does the following when the page loads "text1" is displayed. then on the next line 2 seconds later "text2" is displayed and test1 is still displayed. and i need this to go to 5 lines so the final project should look like --- text1 text2 text3 text4 text5 thanks ok well here's what i want to do i have a bbcode for download links on my forum when this bbcode is parsed, it will display a link under the download link BUT only for the first 3 links so basically i would need a javascript with a counter, that will display some text if the counter is > 3 and then add +1 to the counter normally i would EASILY do this with php, but i can't (bbcodes are parsed not parsed by server on phpbb, and you can't use php code in bbcodes) And since i'm a total newbie with javascript, i need to come here and ask this stupid question :/ thanks for your help! if you still don't understand what i want to do, here is how it would look in php if i could include this code in my phpbb custom bbcode: Code: <? if (empty($compteur)) { $compteur = "1"; } if ($compteur < 4) { echo "bla blah blah"; $compteur = $compteur+1; } ?> Hi, may I ask how do you display a line or a sentence when you click the checkbox? Hi I am trying to use stoutlabs content slider on my website. I have a dummy set up here www.mattbbell.com Instead of the numbered navigation i want to have text like home, bio, contact etc The demo can be download here http://stoutlabs.com/demos/class_sli..._slider_v2.zip with all files necessary to make the dummy website you see there... From what i can tell I have to edit the sl_slider_new.js file and make it call a list of divs that i name home, bio, contact I think this is the section i need to edit but i don't know much about javascript.... Code: // -- Number nav setup if(self.options.numNavActive == true){ //create numbered navigation boxes, and insert into the 'num_nav' ul) var numItem = new Element('li', {id: 'num'+i}); var numLink = new Element('a', { 'class': 'numbtn', 'html': (i+1) }); numItem.adopt(numLink); self.options.numNavHolder.adopt(numItem); self.numNav.push(numLink); numLink.set('morph', {duration: 100, transition: Fx.Transitions.linear, link: 'ignore'}); numLink.addEvents({ 'click' : function(){ self.numPress(i); }, 'mouseenter' : function() { this.setStyle('cursor', 'pointer'); } }); //set initial number to active state if(i == self.options.itemNum){ var initNum = self.numNav[i]; initNum.addClass('active'); } } //end if num nav 'active' }); }, thanks! This is a follow up to my older thread, about tables and finding images within them. So after getting some help from "Krupski" I found myself stuck again. I'm trying to go at this rather from an other point of view, instead of getting the cell information I am now trying to get the alt text value. from within the image tag. but being a novice at this well ive hit a wall. My code so far. searches though the table finding the sad images then i want it to display the Alt-text or an other value table_id or similar. also is there a fast way of putting in Alt text like A1,2,3 B1,2,3 etc like an automated loop. (might work on this after the main problem is dealt with) Code: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> var findImg = function(name) { var e = document.getElementsByTagName('img'); var i = e.length; // how many img elements total var str = ''; while (i--) { if (e[i].src.indexOf(name) != -1) // if match... str += e[i].src + '\n'; //...copy to str with a newline } alert(str); // display all matches } function searchFor(){ findImg('smiley%20sad%20Icon.jpg'); // call the function with the name to be matched } </script> </head> <body> <table width="200" border="1"> <tr Id="A"> <td Id="1"><img src="http://www.hencam.co.uk/hencam_forum//extensions/Smile/tango/face-smile.png" Alt="A1"> </td> <td Id="2"><img src="http://www.hencam.co.uk/hencam_forum//extensions/Smile/tango/face-smile.png" Alt="A2"> </td> <td Id="3"><img src="http://www.iconeasy.com/icon/thumbnails/System/Icons%20for%20Developers/smiley%20sad%20Icon.jpg" Alt="A3"></td> </tr> <tr Id="B"> <td Id="1"><img src="http://www.hencam.co.uk/hencam_forum//extensions/Smile/tango/face-smile.png" Alt="B1"></td> <td Id="2"><img src="http://www.iconeasy.com/icon/thumbnails/System/Icons%20for%20Developers/smiley%20sad%20Icon.jpg" Alt="B2"></td> <td Id="3"><img src="http://www.hencam.co.uk/hencam_forum//extensions/Smile/tango/face-smile.png" Alt="B3"></td> </tr> <tr Id="C"> <td Id="1"><img src="http://www.hencam.co.uk/hencam_forum//extensions/Smile/tango/face-smile.png" Alt="C1"></td> <td Id="2"><img src="http://www.hencam.co.uk/hencam_forum//extensions/Smile/tango/face-smile.png" Alt="C2"></td> <td Id="3"><img src="http://www.hencam.co.uk/hencam_forum//extensions/Smile/tango/face-smile.png" Alt="C3"></td> </tr> </table> <br> <input type="button" value="Search" id="Search" onClick="searchFor();"/> </body> </html> Thanks in advance anyone who can help. ~Mark j I wanted to toggle text by using a JavaScript. I used the following script: Code: function toggle_visibility(id) { var e = document.getElementById(id); e.style.display = ((e.style.display!='none') ? 'none' : 'block'); } and Code: <a href="#" onclick="toggle_visibility('foo');">Click here to toggle visibility of element #foo</a> <div id="foo">This is foo</div> for every element I wanted to hide by clicking the text. It works fine, but the content of the div is already displayed when loading the page itself. I want it to be hidden first, and only visible when you blick the text. Is this possible? I have the ability to remotely upload a text file to a folder on my web server. Periodically during the day I update that file and re-upload it which overwrites the previous file. I am looking for a script to insert in a webpage that will "get" and display the current version of that file on page load. Thanks in advance. I am new to JavaScript and I am having a difficult time finding what I thought would be easy to find (so please forgive me if this has been posted somewhere else...) I have 4 text strings that when a user runs his/her mouseOver, I'd like to display a corresponding picture in a display area. I thought that would be easy enough. However, it gets a bit complicated for me since I am also using CSS to position the display area. For some reason all I can find out there are examples using HTML tables for display image positioning. I don't want to use tables. I'm not sure if this will make a difference but my style sheet is external. Also, the text does not link/go to another page. I REALLY hope that made sense. Someone please help me! hello im attempting to display the output of the radio selection into the textbox. For example, if the user selects 0-15 then display "Your age group is 0-15 years" in the text area. i get the basic logic. i just dont understand how to display the value in the textbox. heres what i have so far if it will clarify my issue. Code: <html> <head> <title>lab 8</title> <script language="javascript"> function textbox() { var i; for(i = 0; i < form1.agegroup.length; i++) { if (form1.agegroup[i].checked) alert("you picked " + form1.agegroup[i].value); } } </script> </head> <body> What is your age group?<br> <form name="form1"> <input type="radio" name="agegroup" value="0-15" checked>0-15<br> <input type="radio" name="agegroup" value="16 to 20">16 to 20<br> <input type="radio" name="agegroup" value="21 to 25">21 to 25<br> <input type="radio" name="agegroup" value="26 to 35">26 to 3<br> <input type="radio" name="agegroup" value="36 and up">36 and up<br> <input type="button" value="submit" onclick="textbox();"> <form name="form2"><textarea rows ="2"> </textarea> </body> </html> btw i know the alert part is wrong. its there because im taking the code i previously had and changing it to display in a textbox instead of an alert. thanks I'd like to create a website similar to http://www.picfog.com which displays images posted to Twitpic and Yfrog via Twitter. Could anyone help me with the following: Given a feed/list of messages containing links to images, display the images that are linked to. For example, take these two Twitter messages: omgsage: http://twitpic.com/cw3i3 - This is the cutest kitty ever ellievolia: Our evening! http://twitpic.com/cw3hx Using Javascript how do I extract the link part of each message, convert this to point to the actual thumbnail and then display the thumbnails on the web page? Thanks in advance! Hello guys, I'm new to Javascript and my question involves text appearing upon a button click or after a set time. I have the following code: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function timedMsg() { document.write("Timed Messege."); } And the button: Code: <form> <input type="button" value="Display timed alertbox!" onClick="timedMsg()" /> </form>[ I guess document.write is not the correct command to use in such situations, since it just replaces the whole page. Which command should I use so that the wanted text appears within the page, without reloading or replacing it? Thanks in advance. I could not find a proper command in my search. Hi guys, this is my first post so be gentle. The problem I am having is this.. I want to have a link so that when you put your mouse over it, an image will be displayed in another frame. I thought this would not be as hard as it has been other wise i would not be turning to you for help. this is the link right now: <a href="http://www.dickblick.com/zz529/47/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Alvin 4-Piece Creative Center</a> its just a standard link. the image is located at /images/alvin_wood.jpg here is what I have tried so far.. I have tried using the window.open command and that seemed to work but i could not get it to open in a size of my determiation.. ie 200 by 300 (random demensions i just threw out). ive tried this: <a href="javascript: onMouseOver="window.open('images/picture.jpg')"> Ive tried using the showtrail and hide trail functions ( i think they are functions), and a slew of others but i got mad and deleted it... i prolly shouldnt have done that.. but ill find it and post it so you can see. http://www.stockxpert.com/browse.phtml?f=s&c=100 that is what i want to do except starting off it would be the link and then the image would pop up... I dont even care if its in another frame.. I can take that frame out its not a bid deal.. ive been screwing with this for two weeks and this is my last bit of effort to find an answer.. SO!! if anyone can help I would be greatful!! THANK YOU! I am building an online store where the customer can select custom parts. I'm quite new to javascript, but I've managed to create a radio button list, where the price is added from each section. I would like a box to show all of the options selected, not just the sum total. I've included the text with value and used parseInt. I have been told I can use value.split(" "), but I don't really know how to go about doing that. I've been fiddling for hours now and don't seem to be able to get anywhere. I would also like to include a 3rd value, another number, and add that one in a separate calculation. E.g. For "50 5850ati1gb 56" I would like one calculation which adds 50 to the total, another calculation adding 56 to a different total and 5850ati1gb added to a list of all of the components. I am not very experienced with this, so don't be afraid to talk to me like I'm stupid! Thank you in advance. My code so far: Code: <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function DisplayPrice(price){ var val1 = 0; for( i = 0; i < document.form1.part.length; i++ ){ if( document.form1.part[i].checked == true ){ val1 = document.form1.part[i].value; } } var val2 = 0; for( i = 0; i < document.form2.part2.length; i++ ){ if( document.form2.part2[i].checked == true ){ val2 = document.form2.part2[i].value; } } var val3 = 0; for( i = 0; i < document.form3.part3.length; i++ ){ if( document.form3.part3[i].checked == true ){ val3 = document.form3.part3[i].value; } } var sum=parseInt(val1) + parseInt(val2) + parseInt(val3); document.getElementById('totalSum').value=sum; } </script> </head> <body> <form name="form1" id="form1" runat="server"> <br> <input id="rdo_1" type="radio" value="0 1.8ghz2xAMD" name="part" checked="checked" onclick="DisplayPrice(this.value);">1.8Ghz Dual Core AMD <br> <input id="rdo_2" type="radio" value="50 2ghz2xAMD" name="part" onclick="DisplayPrice(this.value);">2Ghz Dual Core AMD <br> </form>Choose your memory:<br /> <form name="form2" id="form2" runat="server"> <br> <input id="rdo_1" type="radio" value="0 1333corsair1gb" name="part2" checked="checked" onclick="DisplayPrice(this.value);">1333 Corsair 1GB <br> <input id="rdo_2" type="radio" value="50 1333corsair2x1gb" name="part2" onclick="DisplayPrice(this.value);">1333 Corsair 2x1GB <br> </form>Choose your graphics card:<br /> <form name="form3" id="form3" runat="server"> <br /> <input id="rdo_1" type="radio" value="0 5830ATI1gb" name="part3" checked="checked" onclick="DisplayPrice(this.value);">1GB ATI 5830 <br /> <input id="rdo_2" type="radio" value="50 5850ATI1gb" name="part3" onclick="DisplayPrice(this.value);">1GB ATI 5850 <br /> <input id="rdo_3" type="radio" value="75 5870ATI1gb" name="part3" onclick="DisplayPrice(this.value);">1GB ATI 5870 <br /> </form> </body> |
