JavaScript - I Can't Figure Out Why My Form Dropdown Keeps Coming Up Null

I have created a form with javascript embedded to dynamically assign value to Code:

document.myForm.myTextBox.value

based on user inputs, and when submitting the form, the targeted php file will process the data and records them in MySQL. The problem is that the value of myTextBox remains 'null' even when the javascript assigns a value to it (and it is visible in the form). Here is the code of the javascript:

To prevent user-mistyping, the textbox will be disabled after the value is set.

I have check the javascript for the navigation bar and for the rotating images and cannot see what is missing. Not sure what is not being called.

Hi i have done some reading on the net today because i am getting an error on ie. I did find the javascript twice in my code, once in the header and once here, so i removed it from the header. I also changed to src to the full url.

But i am still getting this and i dont know why. the file is located in the root directory.

i was on 1.5 swfobject i did download 2.2 and im guessing all you do is replace the swfobject.js file to upgrade it, but what happened is it gives me this now.

Another Update. I am back to the original question. null is null or not an object.. in my search i have found this

found a solution. basically Internet Explorer is crappy and doesnt like the setAttribute property so had to change the onchange handler by directly changing the attrbute for the object like so.
object.onchange = function() {}

i have no idea what they means, does that mean i need to change swfobject.js or does that mean i have to change my xml request. and if it is the swfobject i have no clue what they mean or what lines

Were I am stuck is with the jquery

I have a form that is done in a form class and when an option is selected from the dynamically populated drop down menu I would like it to fill in the text boxes so they can be edited.

At the moment it does not load any data(I somehow need to get the $iID sent from the index.php but the drop down menu is a count array would I take it from this?) and is in a separate div below the form.

Hi Everyone,

I'm encountering errors with a form I have created. I feel confident that the issue is with my JS validation form because when I allow the form to submit without validating any of the fields, my php processor correctly uploads all the content into my database (but, I will need the form validation to prevent the user from skipping fields).

The issue (I believe) is with IE. In IE, both drop-downs seem to populate correctly but when I submit the form, I get a prompt to make a selection for the first drop-down menu.

The form does submit properly in FireFox and Safari but with some testing I noticed that I was getting a prompt to make a selection in the first drop-down in instances where a selection was already made but I just had not yet populated the second country/state drop-down.

Still, in Firefox and Safari, the form does pass validation upon submit.. So, I am hoping it's just IE specific issue.

I'm thinking the issue is with IE not recognizing my selection. The form had a drop-down menu where the user selects a letter, then that selection triggers (in JS using a function to process the selection) another drop-down to populate with all the countries or states that begin with the letter from the first selection.

I'm totally stumped as to what could be going on in IE that is not allowing the form to pass JS validation.. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

I've implemented Busybox on a website to display FLV files in a popup player. This works fine, except for the following error in IE (FF is fine) when I close the popup: 'null' is null or not an object

I'm in the middle of teaching myself PHP and SQL so I'm only at the paste-and-tweak level with Javascript. Bear with my newbie-ness.

I've seen a few solutions for creating a form dropdown menu that changes a nearby image based on what is selected. I want exactly that, but is it possible to have the images also appear on mouseover? I found a menu solution using CSS, but when I applied it to a form, it didn't work. Can anyone put me in the right direction on how to do that?

The Script works in Firefox, BUT not in Internet Explorer. What am I missing? I need Drop Down menu Boxes to appear when User clicks on a certian Menu option. The way it appears now on the website is all the boxes appear. They should stay "hidden" until a User clicks on the drop down menu selection. Thanks!

Hey everyone. Been racking my brain all day trying to figure out how to duplicate this code with the limited javascript knowledge I have been trying to learn.

This code is a Dropdown menu of Yes or No, than a Select button that Opens up a Text Input directly below the dropdown. So far, It works great. My problem is I need at least two of these on the same page and I do not know how to go about it. I have tried changing values to accommodate adding another on the same form, but than both stop working. Can someone Please HELP!

(yes i saw the one asking about the same question pretty much a few posts down haha)

basically I have some programming doing delphi and pascal and im mixing them up with my very very limited javascript... hence why I think i messed something up.... everything seems to be ok ... but the prompts wont come up or anything.... all the var's match up so what am I doing wrong :(

also couple of rules....

im assuming the people inputting are using valid numbers (dont need a check)
no need to check for sensible values either
dont worry about decimal places


(basically the stuff like it checking is for a different part of the assignment that I am doing which i can do by myself if i get this actually working...)
